data speeds on tilt 2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

i found a different thread but it talked about the icon.
i recently picked up a tilt 2.
now over wifi, with the att proxy disabled i compared my tilt 2 to my iphone 3g.
i used speedtest net. web app on the tilt 2 and on the iphone i can only use the app.
what i found interesting is on the iphone i get 5 megs down 600k up which is about right to what my dsl line is provisioned at currently.
when i run the test on my tilt2 the max i can hit is 1.5 megs down.
is this normal? software? hardware? when i goto connection settings on the tilt it shows down speed 54mbps upload at 1.... when i click my wifi connection on the tilt.
any info would be appreciated.
over 3g i get about the same speed 3g iphone vs tilt those add up. i'm not really intrested in the slow speed over 3g what is bothering me is why is this phone so slow over wifi.

one more thing i want to add, when i connect wifi, with data off
network advance, Tx rate is 54MBps Rx rate is always 1 Mbps.
no matter what rom i have on the device.

Mine does the same thing. I contacted HTC and they where no help. I'm thinking of calling HTC again and see if I get some one else that might have a clue. You would think that when you connect to Wi-Fi that you would get better than 1.5Mb/s.

same here. Tilt 2 max 1.5

same here.
Tilt 2 with default at&t rom, sim unlocked on Roger(canada) network with the good connection settings.
Max 1.5 moslty around 1 on both 3G and wifi.

bad hardware or just how it is?
i have tried a different radio flash no change. to me it seems like bad hardware or a hard cap in the phones hardware.

does anyone DO NOT observ this problem with is tilt 2?

Yea i am at about 1 mbps as well on wifi. With full reception on 3g though for some reason i can only get speeds of about .5-.7mbps what the hell. I called ATT and they said it was the device but who knows. I bought this phone because of the fact that it had HSDPA 7.2. (I spend a lot of time on the internet) and of course some of the other great features it offers but my iphone 3g out performs it :-( really aggrivating

I have the T-Mo touch pro 2 and I use my phone as a modem for my laptop and it always feels like the internet is screaming fast, how would I check to see how fast it's actually going so I can report?

well that is because when you teather your laptop it is going through a different set of towers and uses different data (or something like that) then if you are just browsing from your phone. To test the speed just teather your phone and go to speedtest.net

Slow here on ATT Tilt 2
I also seem to have the 1.5 max wifi, G3 is even slower.
Missing the kaiser (original Tilt) already

i called htc on this matter, and the guy i spoke to is getting the same results, 1.5Mbps max.
this phone is same speed wifi and 3g in terms of load, etc i find this hard to accept, my ipaq is 802.11b and it wifi connection is not throttled to 1.5Mbps like this phone.
rom's and radio make no difference to the speed and if its hard capped at 1.5Mbps how in the world can it even hit the crappy 7.2Mbps att is rolling out backwards.

those this problem only observ on the tilt 2 or tp2 from sprint or verizon also get the problem?

Yep, I have Verizon FIOS at the house, and we have the max speed, 25 down 15 up. Testing with speedtest.net on my laptop i average 19.5 down, 13.5 up.
Turn on the wifi on my tilt2, and I get 1.5 down, 1.2 up. Ouch.

I get 0.05 down and 0.32 up. I've been complaining about it for awhile now. I have spent a long time calling AT&T and visiting the store and in the end it has led to them telling me they need to send me a new phone. If I take that option, I will let everyone know if the new phone was the same.

Oh bother, same here.... Bounces at 1.5 down, .35 up. Like it's hard-coded to limit it to that speed.
Probably another way for ATT to give network priority to the sheephone.

it's really inacceptabled. I've bought the found from a second hand here in canada. I cannot change it like this. HTC must offer a solution to us. It's not only an at&t phone. It's a world phone.

Same here too.
WiFi on my laptop gets me 6-7, but Wifi on the Tilt2 maxes out around 1.5

I would have suspected that too, but when you switch to wifi, you are no longer on the AT&T 3G network. I think it has to be a hard limit on the phone. The question is, can that limit be "unlocked" somehow?

this is the question i asked htc. they are getting back to me.
i hope this is just a software issue that can be addressed with some sort of patch.
it feels like hardware since its on stock or cooked roms.

T-Mobile 3G Users Welcome to HSPA 7.2 Mbps

So anybody who gets T-Mobile 3G now is able to take advantage of The new upgraded HSPA 7.2Mbps 3.5G network. Phone that are able to take advantage of this are the HTC G1, HTC MyTouch, HTC Dash 3G, HTC Touch Pro 2, Samsung Behold 2,and I believe the Blackberry 9700.
Check your speed using you phone browser at www.mobilespeedtest.com
Here is my speed in Miami, Fl.
Must not be in every market. 3g In phoenix seems to top out around 250kbps...at least right now.
Should in all 3G markets. It might be rolling out to different cities throughout the day.
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/01/t-mobile-officially-upgrades-to-hspa-7-2mbps/
Also try doing the 1Mb or larger test.
Yeah you're probably right. I'll just keep checking through the day. These speeds will nearly make the fee for 3g worth it.
Mine is 541kps, is that good? lol Have no idea about phone speeds.
The way ISPs advertise speeds is in bits. When we download is its bytes. So 7.2MBPS should be equilvalent to 7200 / 8 = 900 Kbytes a sec. So 900kbps should be max on our phones which is in between dsl and cable modem speeds. This is of course on the Tmobile Network. The fastest I got on my Tmobile TP2 was 800kbps full 3G bars.
I'm in the Tampa Bay area with full 3g bars. I did the 1MB test and got 717kb's per second. Not sure how to tell if I improved from before tmobile "upgraded" to hspa

Me too, just about the same, which is an upgrade at least 50% from before. I can't wait to try it out at work tomorrow with a full signal!!!
1774kbps in phoenix right now...pretty decent...
I have always used :
http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1&more=1
However the site posted here gives me much better results, so I think I prefer it. Bit odd though.
Ok guys. When you test it out it gives yous the small download test. You need to retest at 2Mb or higher to see the real speed. I used the 7Mb test to test my connection and was consistently getting 6500Kbps - 7000Kbps
I noticed quite a difference between Opera and Opera 10 Beta. What's the most accurate browser to use?
To get a "true" test I use Internet Explorer
Too bad all this speed won't mean **** because our CPU is slow. You will only take advantage of these speeds when you tether to your computer.
Not sure the test is reliable, got so many reading on my end. 700+kps, sometimes 25kps (huh????) sometime 650++, etc.
I've tried 3 times using dslreports simple mobile test. 1MB and got
~700kb
~800kb
~900kb

t mobile data plan web n walk 360kbs hsdpa

Hi All
I was never a t-mobile fan but they offerd me a deal was not bad, 35 pm 18 mnth desire free and unlimited internet , but the internet under web n walk is is very slow , after 4 phone call to t mob , looking at my account checked all the settings i cant get over 360kbs on HSDPA , which is stupidly slow and i it seems that i have to pay for a booster to get my speed up.
As per tru call centre experiance I get different reasons every time i cal,l 1 person said that ur data setting are not right our end, the other said that i have fixed it , another said " nah sorry that ur speed ".
Has any 1 else experianced this or can i change anything on my phone to enable HSDPA " I get the H sign" as it feels like 3g speed.

Since T-Mobile adopted their "Unlimited internet" plans for Android etc contracts, they have reduced their speeds. I spoke with one of their technical support teams who confirmed it.
If you pay extra and get Web n Walk Max (usually only available on business tarrifs now) you will get full speed.
Its poo! Me and my brother had the same issue
i got around 900 at one point on 3g, recently only been getting around 500 though. On t-mobile 35 month plan too.
I get about 500kbps on H. This is quick enough for me for a mobile device! Pages load up very quickly. I can understand the need to ration the bandwidth on a cellular service, especially when the tariffs are so cheap (I pay £10 a month for unlimited internet, 100 mins, unlimited landlines).
Ok, I had the same problem..data capped at 356K.
I phoned T-Mobile and found they had the wrong phone registered to my account. they had a Nokia something not the desire.
As soon as the lady the other end change it to the correct phone (apparently thier system works this way) I got full HSDPA speeds - well 2.8M but better than before.
Seems that the shop i got the phone from (Movbilephonesdirect) just register any old phone to your SIM.
just done a test. getting 1.78mbps down and 0.38 up on H. still on original g1 android plan as only upgraded phone.

Had same problem - t-mobile could not get full speed even after changing phone on system, Canceled t-mobile contract due to could not get more than 360kbps.
i will begetting on vodafone now.
I had this problem, they told me to take it to the T-Mobile store to check it.
So I go 5 minutes down the road, albeit "Truley" in the city centre.
Do a speedcheck at the store and I'm getting 1.8mb
It seems their internet coverage is very hit and miss (either that or because I'm usually doing my speedchecks indoors )
I'm getting two different reading! In my area I can pick up full bar with HSDPA. Using speedtest app, I only get 360Kbps on HSDPA max. but when I go the browser and check speedtest in www.mobilespeedtest.com I get on average 2686Kbps using 1MB test. who is right?
I called up t-mobile before I done the test on www.mobilespreedtest.com. to complain about getting 360kbps, they done all the routing checked:which are checking my htc desire is register to my sim card, my present area postcard can pick up 3G&HSPDA, switching it to GMS only, than WCDMA only, take out the battery, and sim card, rebooting it etc but no luck after I test the speed again in speedtest app. at the end all they can say was the phone is new and they don't have the configuration setting on their system to assist me at this present time!
can someone else test their speed at www.mobilespeedtest.com pls, and compare it to speedtest app if you have that installed.

1.85Mbps with speedtest.net app
For all people on T-Mobile receiving speeds of around 360kbps on HSDPA connections:
You need to dial 150, select technical support. Tell the operator that you are only receiving 3g speeds of around 360Kbps in HSDPA location. You must advise the operator that you have done speed tests that reflect this.
They should then upgrade your account to receive HSDPA speeds.
The reason you only get 360Kbps is because you are on Web 'N' Walk which is a handset only broadband service.
T-Mobile are generally more than happy to upgrade the account to receive the higher speeds. Just make sure you speak to technical support and not customer services as they will not have a clue about this.
mine on Mobile speed test says 889kbps
Did the 1mb test and it says 2740kbps which was top of the charts!

Agree with this 100%. I had this problem a few years ago. Customer Servicves DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HSDPA is. Ask for technical support, do not let them fob you off. The whole point of 'H' is that you are getting speeds of 360kps+, not 360kbps max.
Just done test I'm getting 3200kbps, full signal on H.

Fon22 (tmobile)
i got my phone from an HTC retailer in Tottenham Court Road (London) and put my old HTC Touch Diamond 2 t-mobile sim card in it that i got from Mobilephonesdirect.
I've not done anything special on my phone or even told t-mobile and I live in a crappy town called Aldershot in the middle of the sticks but my results were
Your speed: 2657.807 Kbps
Your latency: 0.3 seconds
Transferred 1000 KB in 3.01 seconds
which isn't too bad i guess
Mobilespeedtest.com seems inaccurate. It's giving me very fast scores and I'm in a basement. I can hardley make phone calls yet I'm getting readings of 2000+ Kbps. Speedtest.net is giving a more realistic 1,300 Kbps
Web'n'walk settings
Hi guys,
totally new here and to Mobile Internet. Could someone please let me know of the settings for web'n'walk on the HTC Desire?
I tried the t-mobile.co.uk but is currently down. Also sent a text to have settings automatically sent to my phone, but response said 'Device not supported'.
I have a sim-free phone with a t-mobile solo (pay monthly) plan. Do I need to somehow activate web'n'walk? I tried some stuff* on my phone, but no luck.
Is there an icon that should appear on top of my sceen when I've got 3G coverage?
Any help appreciated!
Cheers,
Stefanos

How to improve 3G?

Hey guys I have had my Evo for awhile now and Sprints network has great coverage BUT the 3g seems abysmally slow. For instance, I can rarely stream videos without it buffering - youtube videos on regular quality mind you. If I stand still in a place with good signal I will be fine but if I'm moving etc it is slow. I get around 100KB/s during daytime where I live and 130KB/s night time which is great but luckily I also get full signal where I am. On the go, it sucks.
Are there any ways to increase 3g speeds or is it purely network related?
Welcome to sprints idea of 3g
God's honst truth man... if thats all you get... thats all you are going to get because sprints 3g network is the worst i have ever seen. Bar none. Even little us cellular has better coverage and twice the data speeds as sprint does here in iowa.
There is no possible way for the phine or any hack to it to speed up sprints crap network.
My advise to you is to cqll sprint and plead your case, that you paid for 3g and are getting 1x rtt speeds 24/7 and politely demand a credit to your account like i do every month.
And then call back about 5 minutes later and ask to speak to the retention center because you want to cancel your service because you arpe not getting service you are paying for.
Then tell the retention persion you were thinking of getting the Airave but cant afford it and see if they will give it to you free on the basis of poor service and they typically will.
I did, and got one for when i am at work and the boss wont let me use it because it uses works internet for voice and data.

Figures... Should have went with ATT or Verizon.
I know in the old days of 3g internet hacks Sanyo phones had a data cap screen that was accessible via ##040793##. From there you could change the data rate, 144K/230K. Not sure if we have the same here but phone codes may be a place to start.
Mmmmhmmm. Just be glad you don't have the epic and are capped at 150kbps up.
I think sprint has finally gotten 2 good phones and 4g, so now they think they're the top dog and can do whatever they damn well please...it's like a cycle with them. Bad service>>>loose all of their customers>>>cheap, semi-good service>>>get customers back>>>become assholes again>>>loose their customers...

Well Verizon has amazing android phones for one. There is a data cap for ATT which is true but no cap for Verizon. You know now that I think about it I might do the force roam hack on my Evo and see if if I get better 3g speeds.
I have no idea what any if you are talking about, I get better 3g speeds on Sprint then I ever did with any other carrier I've had.

I wish I could get speeds that fast consistently. Actually what you are getting is right about on par for 3g. That's prob the avg speed one would expect to get. There are higher areas and lower areas depending on a lot of things. A 100KB connection is nothing to complain about. I've personally never had a connection over 150 KB.
Sent from your mom's phone.
Not sure if its sprint or my phone but I can't break 40kbs down on anything and 3g cuts out all the time. Crappy....
The first thing I would do to verify your 3g speeds is to unroot your phone, and make sure you are running the latest .93 hboot release and sprint ota release. If your phone is already in this state (un rooted and latest hboot) then ignore me.
You should also look into unrevoked forever if you haven't already...it runs off the current hboot, and I've noticed that something about that hboot does help 3g speeds on some rooted phones if you go that route.
I've done a ton of research and practical testing on this subject and I can say without a doubt that the evo's current rooting methods DO have a negative impact on some 3g phones in some areas. And I'm not talking about 100 or 200 kbps here or there. In the same house, same phone, 1 rooted and 1 not. That was the ONLY difference. The rooted phone got 7 kbps. The stock got 1800kbps. I swapped phone setups so that the rooted one was now unrooted and vice versa. That time the rooted one got 47kbps and unrooted was 1681 kbps...in other words the problem followed the rooting process, and not the phone. I've done dozens of tests like this and others in various areas within the surrounding wilmington delaware area.
I have access to 3 rooted evos, 1 evo that is always stock, as well as a samsung moment. The 4 evos are all rev 3 nova. I also did similar tests on the hero with the same sorts of results. Feel free to pm me or post here with any questions.
EDIT: the kbps numbers I listed were for download speeds. Upload speeds on both rooted and unrooted, regardless of build or boot version, were consistent at around 600 -700 kbps during almost all of my testing.
EDIT2: I forgot to say - this problem also happened to me when I changed recoveries from clockwork to AmonRA. So it's not JUST the rooting process that can cause this, but several low-level engineering commands, such as flashing a kernel, upgrading a ROM, etc.

That's pretty crappy, I get full 3g pretty much everywhere around St. Louis until I get out to the country. And pretty good 4g around town. My 3g is about 1.5mb down. 4g is 5 to 7mb down.

Flash the PRL to connect to Verizon's towers. I get 1.2 mb/s even see 2mb/s occasionally. Of course ping times are raised.
It's pretty hit or miss here, one day I will get 50-150k down and the next it will be +1meg. Next time it get drops below 500 you can bet I will be talking to somebody about it though, their advertised 3G speed is 600kb - 1.5mb.
100kb is ridiculous
I get anywhere between 500-1mb down 100-200kb up. My 4G easily does between 2-6mb down and 1mb up. People just love to complain. You didn't realize this within your 30 day trial? If so, why didn't you switch carriers?
What should the prl be right now ? And how are you guys testing the speeds? Nvr done it

I think it is my radio. I was getting fine speeds up until 3 days ago when I noticed severe loading lag in my tethered apps. I get decent pings ~ 200-300ms which is not too out of the ordinary. I did a speed test other day and it was 50KB/s down and 70KB/s up. I figured it was just a faulty day but it has gone on far too long now. This is with 5/5 bars too... Just gotta wait for my new Evo to come in. Seems like every hardware ****up is happening at once.

[Q] HSUPA Disabled (Rogers)?

Hey, I just got my Galaxy Nexus in the mail today and noticed I was getting pretty good download speeds 4-5 Mbps however I seem to be capped at just under 400 Kbps for upload.
I am on Rogers in Canada.
Is HSUPA disabled by default, any way around this? What speeds are you getting on your upload when connected to 3G/HSPA+?
Its probably rogers capping your speed.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 using powers of the unicorn.
Unfortunately you may be right. Just popped my sim card back into my Nexus One. Lower download speeds but exactly the same slow upload.
They didn't use to do this. Thanks Rogers!
Wait for a different radio to pop up. Flash.
That's a quick way to remove the upload limitation. I did this only Nexus S (KB3 radio) and the upstream was consistently over 1mbps.
Run a getprop (in ADB shell or terminal on your phone) and see what ro.ril.hsxpa is set to. Back in the Nexus One days you had to set that to 2 to enable HSUPA if you ordered it from the US like most of us did over here. It would be kind of strange if that was needed still though.

It seems this ro.ril.hsxpa parameter isn't set to anything on the Galaxy Nexus.
I have tried setting it to 2 and 3, neither appears to make a chagne in upload speeds.

Ok. Good to know. Didn't think it would be needed as HSUPA should really be default now basically everywhere and non-HSUPA networks still worked fine with that setting set to 2.
I've talked with Rogers and they claim to not throttle their upload speeds. It's possible it may just be the towers near me.
Can someone else on Rogers post the speeds they get on their Galaxy Nexus (or any other HSPA+ phones)?
On the download side of things I have seen up to 13Mbit, not bad at all but I can't stream anything from my phone because of the upload speeds.
What baseband do you have? Every UCxxx radio I've tried was capped to 400kbs upstream. I run XXKD1 and get full upstream speeds as well as faster downstream. 6M/3M isn't uncommon on the newer towers. (I'm using a Nexus S so your mileage may vary)
i'm on Rogers with the Galaxy Nexus and my speeds are alright
using modem XKK1
i get download speeds averaging around 3-5mbps and uploads from 1.5-2mbps
sooo im pretty sure its just your coverage area
i havent modded anything in the build.prop file either
I contact Rogers and after about 4 or 5 days I noticed that my uploads speeds were back to the normal ~1Mbps.
Speeds were back full speed on both the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus One at that point.
So if your having speed issues, contact Rogers, hopefully they can do something.
If his 400kbs speed is right then I'll still guess it is a capped radio. Even on old towers you can get faster speeds. The tip is that is is a consistent 400kbs or slightly lower. That's a UCxxx radio, have seen it many times. I have no idea why that group of radios are capped but for sure they are, if that's what he has.
I'm on Rogers and everything seems fine.
8140 down / 2614 up
In a decent coverage area, I get 7.5mbps down, ~1mbps up. Rogers doesn't seem to be capping or doing anything strange.

Yes i was also on rogers and noticed that i never ever got above 1Mbps, which was usless i find if i was doing VOIP on googlevoice.
I switched to bell and notice i always have a constant 3-4Mbps up peaking at 5-6.
Not sure why rogers lacks their network since they've been around for a long time running their network and upgrading.

Laptop gets 50mbps down, GN2 only 25?

So, not having run a speedtest on my laptop in a while, I actually thought my roommate was lying to me when he said we should be getting faster internet. Apparently he's not. Question being, with the speeds people are pulling on LTE, why can't I pull the same speeds from my wifi on my laptop as my GN2? My laptop is getting 50mbps down, while my Note tops out around 25mbps although yesterday I pulled a couple over 30mbps which has never happened before. Can anyone explain why I'm topping out like that when so much more is capable?
It can be a number of factors, buildings , wind , weather, static interference, anything could be a factor. It won't always be consistent.

Those factors have nothing to do with wifi or why my phone wont go over 25mbps when it can go way higher than that.
It could be the type of wifi antenna that we have on the phone. Max speed is achieved using MIMO streams which required multiple wifi antennas. I suspect that GN2 wifi have only one antenna, one stream up or down.

Just seems odd that it maxes out at that speed on wifi yet with LTe its capable of double that. Does anyone else get more than 25mbps on their wifi?
Mobile app might not use as much data. Not as much time to optimize the connection and really fly.
The pc site may be allowed more bandwidth to get a speedy connection with.
My two cents.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
LTE and wifi are not using the same antenna. MINO is the basic for wifi (N) to achieve higher speed. If you go out and by wireless adaptor. Usually there 2 type of Wifi (N) offer 150N and 300N. The 150N has only one attenna, and the 300N usually has at least 2 or more.
So... still curious, what are others getting on their home wifi?
What is your link speed. My usually at home SD shows 39 or 52 mbit but I have seen 72 too. I dont have internet service fast enough to see if phone is the bottleneck.

When I look at the network in the task manager on windows I believe its actually like 130? Im at work now, have to check when I get home? Is that the correct way to find out?
computer - 32
phone - 27
At home I have 40/20MB and on my phone I get 38/19 at work I have 100/100MB and on my phone I get 85/80MB.

So my link speed right now is actually 144 mbps, though during busy times it might go down to 130. It definitely seems like we are supposed to have better internet because I remember a couple months ago it was only 72. Anyways, what exactly am I doing wrong? Shouldn't I be getting even better than 50mbps on my laptop, at least? Also, my router came from Comcast, do I need to upgrade it to get the full effect or are my laptop and phone somehow limited? At home I'm getting better than 50 on my laptop so shouldn't I be getting 35 or 40 then, no problem, on my Note? It would be aggravating if Comcast was charging me for faster internet but not telling me I needed a new modem to take advantage of it. Actually, more like stupid than aggravating.

Yes you will always loose some throughput over wireless unless you have a beast of a router but plugged in with the hardwire should give you full speed. I would test by hard wiring to the router with your laptop and running a speed test then hard wire to the modem and do a speed test. If both router and modem are the same. Then its a wireless issue.

Well, I'm obviously not going to hardwire my laptop or Note. Would simply spending 50 bucks on a router from best buy, also avoiding a rental fee from comcast, improve my optimal speeds for my laptop and N2?

That's just to trouble shoot if it is your router or modem that is bad so you don't buy a new one when that was not the problem.

Well it's just the normal router that comcast gave us but I believe this was actually the second time we've updated so couldn't it be possible our comcast issued router is outdated? I've never been able to get better on any public wifi. I've just always had this creeping feeling that my account is just old enough to be on a weird plan where I am throttled overall no matter where I'm at opposed to other people. I've just never been able to duplicate the speeds on any phone that other people in my same exact area have. Like I'm handicapped for some reason., I mean, I basically get the same speeds on my N2 that I got on my Sensation, if not lower sometimes, and that just makes no damn sense whatsover. Don't we have a kikass radio over the Sensation?

I'm seeing similar to what you're seeing. I just had Verizon replace my router with a new Actiontec MI424WR which has gigabit & 802.11n. I have FiOS 50/25.
On a laptop running Windows 7 with an Intel 6300n wireless adapter one room away from the router I get 48-55 down. Sitting next to the laptop with the GN2 running ParanoidAndroid 3.15 with the LTE updated modem I get no more than 20 down. If I hold the phone 12 inches from the router in the other room, my Speedtest result hits as high as 33 down. If I take the laptop into the room and run the test next to the router, I consistently see 58 down.
Edit: Prior to getting my router replaced, I had the old Actiontec with 802.11g and if I recall, the laptop & GN2 both got around 12-15 down. Never better. Replacing the router made a huge difference but the laptop saw a high max down.
