OK, I love my IIs, i've had no problems, bar this one... and it's quite a big problem.
I dont know whats causing it, but every now and then, after the IIs has been running (ie, i haven't given a soft-reset), i cannot call anyone, and no one can call me (or send smses, receive smses).
Its annoying because I dont know when its happen until i try and send an sms.
All I know is that when i try and call someone i just hear 'beep beep beep' and when someone calls me it gets diverted to my voicemail.
A soft reset always fixes it right up - anyone else had this problem??
Here is the reason:

thankyou!! how exactly do i do that?
Is that the solution? I right now have:

Rom Date: 10/22/04
Radio version: 1.06.02
Protocol version: 1337.38
ExtRom version: 1.22.169 WWE
Where do I find the other Rom update???
With Rom above I have the same problem as stated before!

Damn I use Pocketnav, which also says it does!! Would that be the problem? But it also happens when I don't close programs for a long time, so even the phone app!!
Thank you thank you thank you!
I was running magic button, and was finding that the phone app was working, and I could connect, but there'd be no audio.
Magicbutton would try to kill the phone app, but would fail. I'm guessing that it left the phone app in a confused state!
Stopping running magicbutton appears to have solved the problem - but I now have the problem that lots of apps are hanging around in memory.
Anyone found a "magicbutton" like solution that coexists with Phone?
Ta,
Nick.
try "my tools" by micro cheng. it's a nice freeware and has been runnimg smoothly on my device for one week now.
Or use SPB Pocket Plus, it has a task closer build in! It is not freeware, but is very great value!
yeah i use that I'm currently just testing it about twice a day.. i expect (unless there's a fault with the ROM) that its some random software i'm running...

Benzo, if it makes you feel any better, I have exactly the same set-up as you. Even the same telco.
What's your list of installed software?
Here's mine:

Birdsoft All-In Hold'Em
SBSH.net PocketWeather

MpegTV PocketTV
MohairSofa Calendar+ Today Plug-In

Hope we can track it down!
Could it be task manager of SPB Pocket Plus causing problems too??
i dont *think* its pocket plus, the phone has been running for about 2 days now without a reset and no problems.. i have a weird feeling that it *possibly* is when i activesync via bluetooth? anyone else think that could be a possibility? guess i could trial it tonight after work

Mine is EXACTLY the same as yours .... that's why I wanted to know what software you have installed!
I didn't know there WAS a ROM upgrade available?
yeah - check out the second post in this thread.. you can up the radio rom and the regular rom.. apparently it doesn't make a difference to this problem tho... but hey, i haven't had a soft reset in a couple of days and everything is going great!
of course i have no idea how to upgrade my rom... i've searched through the forums but there's no step-by-step guide.. and plus, i dont want to have to re-install everything onto my pda if the rom isn't the problem!
I also have the same problem.

Hi, SPB plus looks like a great app, however have anyone experience thesame problem as mine?. I'm running WM5 and no cooked rom and when I tried this apps. it really makes my system run so so so slow, so that forces me to uninstall this app. (I have tried both versions 2.5 & 3 with no luck)
Have anyone got some idea on any conflict with WM5 and how to fix the conflict if there is any....
Thanks.....
hi, im also using XDA IIS and when i installed spb plus 3.0 on it, everytime i send a SMS, the message is sent twice... what must the problem with it... its a gud application but i was also forced to uninstall it..
ROM version: 1.40.00 WWE
ROM date: 3/10/05
Radio Version: 1.12.00
Protocol Version 1337.42

that's what I feel too.. SPB makes my unit sluggish...
Josh,
To avoid sending double SMS. Don't close your messaging after sending the SMS.. just let it go to minimized mode.
You can set it by putting tmail.exe in the exception box in SPB plus.. That way when you close all, it will still remain open in the background.
Also if you have the SD card monitor on the today screen, turn it off. It'll make the unit hesitate for 5-6 seconds before going to the today screen.
true
Adding apps to WM5 makes it really slow, i run minimun apps to keep mine ok
I've been using PocketPlus for the past 6 months and really like it, but I uninstalled it recently and switched to iLauncher because I just couldn't handle how slow my device becomes when I use PocketPlus.
I get the double SMS too ;(
Thanks guys its been driving me crazy I use SBP 2.5 and my girlfriend noticed i was sendign her the same message again and again-lol i was even on the point of calling Orange customer service to try to work it out!
I will add the message program to the exceptions on spb i think
Thanks guys
any way to speed up the pda after installation of spb plus 3?
i also found that is the sbp plus working very slow on mine too. so have any patch or solution for it? :?
Will try disabling my (Today plugin) on SX66 with WM5, if see if it's any faster for the next few days then.
After updating to Windows Mobile 6 I have noticed that some SPB software, which I use daily, has made my system run rather unstable. After playing around for a few days I found that after installing the latest version of SPB Pocket Plus my phone would freeze randomly every few minutes and I would have to softreset. I tried an older version and it also froze, but not as often.
The other SPB software acts funny from time to time, different from WM5.

i am using SPB wather, Mobile Shell and Ppcket Plus and all fine..
spb weather caused issues for me on Black1.2. Big issues.
Older version was an improvement but not perfect.
No problems
Have been running SPB Mobile Shell, SPB Diary and SPB GPRS Monitor successfully on WXL 0.21 (XDA Live) and LVSW 26-03-2007 (currently),.
Everyone sets up their WM6 device differently so it's hard to pin point the bugs and issues. I feel lost without SPB pocket plus and the others. I hope SPB will update their software to fully support WM6 soon. On another note, Japanese support was just recently announced for SPB products which is good news.
After looking over the SPB forums I can't find anything that mentions WM6 issues. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
In the mean time if people could post their setup and works for them and what conflicts they have maybe we can see which software, and possibly what options in the settings, are actually upsetting WM6 and causing these freezes and 'un-wake-able' phones.
Good luck to all of you,
dial
I did have similar issues (freezing, not waking up) with XDA-Live v0.20, after I uninstalled spb diary they seemed to stop.
I changed to LVSW 26-03-2007 and so far no problems with spb diary.
Take the spb diary off! I too had problems until I did a hard reset after removing spb diary from it. BTW, I am currently using LVSW 20070325 and have had NO lock up, freezing,or instability of any kind.
Hope this helps......Later

Anyone see this issue on Black 2.0?
Backup runs fine if i start it, both fulland partial. But scheduled backups doent run..the notification comes up, it looks liek soemthign is getting ready to happen...and then nothing. Its like backup can't terminate apps to start itself.
I found pocket plus worked ok on xda 2.0 but tended to slow down Black 2.0
Just removed Pocket Plus and put Ilauncher on and it seems a lot better!

I had this issue with LVSW-20070326 as well. Opened a trouble ticket with Spb Software and got a response back that since WM6 was not officially released, they do not support it. When I responded back that I did not understand that comment, since new phones were coming out from ODMs and carriers with WM6 on it and therefore had to be officially released (note I did not say that it was still in "beta"), I got another reply apologizing and for me to ignore the first message!
They suggested that I go into the Advanced Options for Spb Backup and uncheck the option "Stop processes before backup". This seems to fix the issue and still appears to do a full backup.
John
I am running SPB Pocket Plus and SPB Diary. I found a long time ago, that if I kept the Storage card icon on the today page that I had problems. So I have always removed the storage card icon and the switch today screen icons.
I have no problems with Pocket plus or diary, use both all day long. I have used them on all current WM6 versions (XDA Live .10, .20, .30, LVSW all versions and Black 2.0) I only had problems on Black 1.2, so I reverted to another Rom until Black 2.0.
i currently am running Black 2.0, absolutely no issues with SPB or Black Rom.
It would seem lots of us like these type programs. Neither one seems to be working great with WM 6.0.
Here's my issues using latest beta of Phonealarm: loosing graphics on reset, sometimes the today plug in doesn't appear. Alarms seem to work and profiles seem to switch correctly.
Also just feels unstable.
Trying PhoneSuite from SBP. Starts fine and runs well. Like the photo dialer. Major issue: only one time based profile; can't see the current profile icon or change it if I click on the space where it is (though dropdown list appears); Caller ID doesnt work with incoming calls, but offers to send SMS to missed calls.
Anybody else having these type issues?
I have been messing with profile switchers and whatnot for sometime now. Typically haven't had too much trouble with Phonealarm...however I know what you mean when you say...just feels a bit unstable. Probably comes from using it long enough to have had some bad betas...so it just gives you that feeling...
I am trying the new Phone Suite from SPB...not bad, but it seems a bit limited as you have mentioned with the profiles. Plus, I am using Mobile Shell right now and you get messages, missed calls etc on the today "Now" screen, the only drawback with Mobile Shell or their new Phone Suite for that matter is they don't show you number of Voicemails, Phone alarm is the only one I have seen that does this. I do like Phone Suite's photo contacts integration...that is pretty cool...so I am still messing with it a bit. For a profile switcher...I am currently using PocketZenPhone v6.103 (doesn't have the missed call, SMS etc but that is what the Shell Now screen offers). This appears to be really nice so far. Lots of custimization, profiles switch quickly and you don't have to have a today plugin..you can have it just as in icon in the bottom toolbar.
Hey on another note. How is Black 2.5 running on your device? I have 2.0 on mine and love it, just recently lost my camera function for some reason and was thinking about flashing my device to 2.5 and hope it comes back.

It's a stupid bug in lots of WM phones, this happens occasionally on Black 2.0 and used to happen when i had a Prophet.
but there's a little workaround.. when the phone booted up and started to load the today screen, just quickly press the Windows hard key twice !
Im running phonealarm 1.6 beta 13 (build 134) and have experienced no instability or today screen troubles?!
I have had no problems with PA ever!? The latest beta (14 build 138) however is very unstable...but its a beta so doesnt reflect the final product!
did some more checking. they are up to 140 but its got issues too. 139 was reported to be more stable.
they are aware of the wm6 issues too. maybe 141 will fix it.
Black 2.5 with buzzing add on is running fine. I went up from vanilla (custel's) Black 2.0 and did not have any problems aside from PhoneAlarm.
i just use o2plus 2.3
profiles are there, meters, launcher with tabs, can customize profiles/wifi/bt at certain times etc.....
only 300kb footprint.

O2Plus won't load without O2 connect, is there a work around.
Only downside to O2plus vs Phone alarm for my purposes, is I like to be able to assign different or no sounds to emails/text alerts depending on the active profile. If I set the ringer to nil, (ie a silent profile) will that kill the email notification too? (I will check later but am going to be tied up for a while now
PS - Scrog, search for the 'amended' version i n fact, I seem to remember JJ posting it somewhere in the last week or two?

Try Pocket Zen Pro. I had issues getting this to work on my Softbank X01HT when it was Japanese WM5, but seems to work great on Black 2.0 / 2.5.
The today screen is pretty much only profiles + some time / operator information, but it is just as customizable as Phonealarm with regards to setting different sounds for different profiles, etc.
The "Today" element is very minimalistic which I actually like after I got used to it.
Actually, you can configure the "Today" element to be just a single line on your screen; i assigned a hardware button to change profiles and it is much easier to use than phonealarm in that respect.
http://www.pocketzenphone.net/PZPForum/index.php
what about Photo Contacts Pro 5?
did you try it?
it has some features PA dont have...
what say you?
Phone profiles pro
Had never heard of it.
Have currently dropped back to O2plus. Am going to try out Pocket Zen Phone, and then maybe PP Pro. Have you used it on WM6 (Black 2.5 in particular)
I like PhoneAlarm and never had problems with it except for some skins that allows direct WIFI on/off and are not compatible with the new connection manager (the Trinity one). Have tried the SPB app but it is useless for me cause it has only one time based profile and I use at least 3 time based profiles. PA has more options and is much more useful...comparing to SPB it use 2mb of storage PA use only 900kb of storage!

Primoz

Yep, currently using it with Black 2.5 however, this is version 5, and not 5.02, which should be a little better (Photo Contacts Pro).
features wise, it has things that i prefer than the others.
I will give PA another chance although it doesn't deal "right" with "Reject calls and send SMS" or with the Profile based on User or Category.

Guys,
PZP does it for me.. VERY lightweight and all the different notifications per profile. See the website - zendrui dot free dot fr

What device/os ROM are you using?
Mainly I would love to hear if there are Roms out there optimized for SIP. I am open to third party solutions such as Fring or Nimbuzz or anything else to get reliable VoIP SIP over 3G and Wifi.
[Edit:]
executive summary
Device: Vodafone VPA Compact III (warrenty swap model)
Radio ROM: 1.56.70.11
ROMs: different stable 6.1 Roms
(MRH 9.0 Valerian, CRCs v13.4 , joshkoss Manila2D 21501 and kareem9nbas RevROMv7)
Software: CRCs VoIP support via Device Update
Problem: When calling from landline to SIP on Hermes (powersave status) the Hermes locks up. Hermes receives call and shows, but doesn't ring, LCD backlight stays off. Landline signals that phone is ringing. Need Softreset to get Hermes back to working.
[/Edit]
Hello,
first of all I want to thank all the awsome cooks here. I am new and this is my first post. I went into flashing a couple month ago. I have to say it is really astonishing to have a community so alive and well around such an old device as the Hermes. And how much work hours go into it by all the individual cooks. Pretty impressive IMHO.
I wanted to make VoIP work for me and decided to try my own little Hermes, since I already got one and have already flashed a custom Rom onto it. This is where my troubles began. I don't want to bother you with the whole story. The results:
I tested some 6.1 Roms with the build-in Voip using DeviceUpdate by CRC to install the Voip section and either one of those two to configure Voip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303493)
http://www.touchxperience.com/en/setup-voip/downloads.html
I went through MRH 9.0 Valerian, CRCs stable Rom, joshkoss Manila2D and kareem9nbas RevROM. Each the latest Version. Only in the MRH I had to install DeviceUpdate myself, since it is included in all the other ROMs. Then I only installed VoIP-Support (under System in DeviceUpdate) and started testing. The biggest problem I currently have is that all of the tested Roms actually crashed when a VoIP-call came in while the device was in power save mode. Since I only tested one way to get the drivers (CRCs DeviceUpdate) the problem might just be the VoIP drivers, but a phone shouldn't crash because it gets a call IMHO.
CRCs stable sometimes works when called out of powersave mode. But I have also seen it crashing.
By crashing I mean that the device turns on, but not the backlight. The call is visible, but the Hermes stops responding to all entries and only a reset brings it back to live.
Right now I am back to using Fring, because there are a couple problems with VoIP in general:
It needs to stay connected over 3G (or Wifi) while in powersave/soft off, It needs to connect reliably to SIP and it needs to be able to use the in-built earpiece (while Fring can't use this I am currently using my BT-headset and will try the audio routing soon).
But Fring has a huge delay.
Is any of the cooks using the built-in VoIP of the Hermes themselves? Because it would solve a lot of my problems if I could just use that.
Next I this I will try going back to the original Schap's 4.31 and see if I can make that work better with VoIP.
I know this is only a Rom forum, but has anyone tested other apps, like Octro, Gizmo5, Talkonaut, AGEphone, MiniSIP or similar progs for SIP recently? I tried Nimbuzz: It can't connect over 3G by itself, it needs some other app to open and keep the data connection.
I know about audioRoute and audio switch, but haven't tried them yet:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502361
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=495166
Anyone know which works better?
[Edit:]
I did some testing with Fring. It is not reliable on CRCs Rom, because incoming calls from a landline phone (Sipgate.de) often times lead to a busy signal on landline. Fring doesn't react, even though the applet on the home screen says that Fring is online (Hermes on, not standby).
