Cannot connect Windows Live :( - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I tried GPRS , HSDPA whatever,
it just show the attached screen.
any idea?

I get the same on 3-UK. Reception is fine as well. Think my network may block it as they want you to use their own version of MSN (not compatible with the TyTN). Works fine on wifi though.
S.K.

I am using 3-HK, I tried once success to be connected.
but after that, never connect success anymore.
EDITed: Wifi is the same result :-(

The same happens in Yoigo (Spain)
I have the same problem, my 3G provider (Yoigo) has a proxy and use an MTU value = 472 (that is not the 1500 by default). I'm trying to change this value because people says Live works fine changing it.
Try to change MTU (diferents values for your ISP) if you know an utility that do this easily please share it.
Thanks

I have no idea about which registry is MTU appear.
Is there any tools or name that I can search?
Thanks

is this location ?
HKLM\Comm\Cellular Line\Parms\tcpip
if yes, still cannot connect......

Can anyone post the
HKLM\Services\Windows Live\Platform\Passport
Policy key value?
it seems this have problem
Thanks

Softbank: Access Internet *99# not working with WM6?

I am using a O2 Trion in Japan with a Softbank SIMCard. Just flashed a WM6 ROM and found that the Access Internet connection via *99# does not work anymore. Anybody has experienced this?
Thanx.

yeah, it's much better now; go to internet sharing and select USB then activate; it automatically connects, and what's more, your computer recognised the Hermes like it's a LAN card so you just go straight ahead and browse.

Sorry, I think I was not clear enough with my problem. The GPRS connection does not work anymore. It does not connect, respectively the connection is terminated after a second with the message "the remote party has ended this connection". That never happened with WM5.

I am trying since half a day. Re-flashed twice. Even called Softbank. No way. It's strange: All other functions work like charm. I am using XDA Live v0.20
Could you please describe exactly how you are trying to access the internet. In WM6 yo do NOT use *99#. I am not sure, but from what you are saying I get the feeling that you are still uing this method.

Yes, indeed, maybe this is my mistake. I have a Softbank simcard, but I am neither using their X0HT nor their Japanese ROM. Until now I used "Site Direct".
As this seems not availbale anymore from 1 April for non-Softbank ROM user, I thought I can use the "Access Internet" service via *99# instead. Is there any other way?
You dont need to dial up. You simply get the operators APN (access point) and any required username and password and create a new Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) connection.

"*99#" is NOT the dial up service. It's the GPRS connection to access their "Access Internet" service:
Access point: *99#
Username: [email protected]
Password: softbank
That is the way I have been using WM5 since more than half a year. And this does not work with WM6. It works, but the connection is interrupted after a second.
They of course also offer a dial up service, but that's a different set up.
Aparently SOFTBANK are very choosy about their accesspoint. Their gateway checks the user agent. Do a search on here for softbank GPRS access.

Getting confused.
If you want to browse or send e-mail FROM the phone itself you do not need to enter *99# etc, only the APN address. You enter the *99# ON YOUR LAPTOP, if you are using the phone as a modem.
What exactly is the problem? Can you not browse the net on the phone itself (if you use PIE, can you surf the net)? Or can you not access the net from your laptop using the phone as a modem? I understood the latter to be the case.
If you CAN surf on the phone itself, but NOT on your latop using the phone as a modem, then the solution SHOULD be simple. In WM6 the function where the phone acts as a modem (DUN) no longer exists. So exit *99# crap. Forget it. If you try to use that, it wont work.
Instead, do the following. In programs, start INTERNET SHARING. Set the connection to USB. Then click connect. The phone should now connect to the internet. Next plug in your USB cable into the laptop. The laptop should now recognize a new network card (a Windows Mobile Internet Sharing Device) and use it to access the net. No more *99#.
It should work. I am posting this using my phone as a Windows Mobile Internet Sharing Device (yep) right now.

According to my carrier *99# is the APN, that's the problme I am trying to describe.
http://mb.softbank.jp/mb/en/service/data/communication/sb3g_v8/index.html
And it always worked this way with WM5.
Sorry man, can't help.
Weird APN name. Usually that *99# string (and all kinds of variants like *99*1#) is a "phone number" you enter when using the phone as a modem, not the name of an APN. Hence my confusion.
I did stumble across some threads on accessing Softbank --- one of them was called how to access SOftbank without cooking a ROM. Have you seen those?
Anyway, good luck.

I'm having this same problem with my TomTom 910. It can't establish and internet connection, but can connect to my handset.
Are you on Softbank too?
Have you tried deleting all connection info, doing a soft reset, recreating your connection, doing a soft reset?
I remember that my phone refused to connect to the net once, and when I checked my connection settings (APN etc) all was OK. Yet it refused to connect, no mail, no browsing, nothing. Whenever the phone tried to go online I refused some kind of error message that the connection was closed or dropped or whatever. In the end, I just went in to Start - Settings - Connections, deleted the connection, did a soft reset and then recreated the connection. I entered the exact same APN as before but his time, mysteriously, the phone could establish connection again.

this worked for me on my treo 750v
Access point: softbank
Username: [email protected]

i can surf the web via PIE, download emails via pocket outlook, sync avantgo content using these settings connecting to SB's GPRS APN.
What i have not figured out is how to send outgoing mails via pocket look using the above connection. I seem to get a returned mail all the time. Driving me nuts.

The link above is for softbank mobile communications which is using your phone as a modem for a PC or other device. Not for browsing from the phone. There is a whole thread on this form for how to setup your device post 1 April when they changed the access point password.

This is a Hermes WM6 thread. Do you have a Hermes device? If so, there are CAB files you can use to automatically populate the Softbank APN information to your Hermes.

All those still having problems with WLM

After extensive serching through the forum and the Wiki i was stumped as to why WLM was failing to sync.
all i could find were people asking if anyone new what the problem was and a whole load of replies that suggested they serched for the answer. The problem being there isn't (as far as i can tell) an actual answer to this issue.
This was my issue.
I upgraded to the newest version of LVSW and i couldn't get WLM to sync, it kept on saying that there was a problem with the service or i have not got good enough reception. this was incorrect as could use IE without a problem.
Many people said that this was because the Beta had expired..which it of course had, so i tried all the new versions, stand alone that LVSW posted with his new ROM, Tried BE 2.0 with the built in version. all with the same result. NOTHING!!!
Now i have found the problem i had and i hope that it will help with others problems
I used to put in my GPRS settings manually, but i decided to download a .cab file with the T-Mobile UK settings. and this was the problem. it was adding a proxy to the connection.
To rectify the situation i deleted the connection and put it back manually with the Following Settings.
Connection Name : T-Mobile GPRS
Access Point: general.t-mobile.uk
User: user
Password: one2one
and nothing else. (these are the only setting T-mobile CS gave me)
I now have a working copy of the new Messenger (No contact duplication) on my Vario II.
I hope this rather long winded post will be of help to some of you on the forum.
B
Yes I found this also. I kept getting the Out of range error message.
However, it's fine to have a proxy on Orange UK and is actually required for the 3G connection. The problem I had was with Active Sync - it kept adding my corporate proxy server name to the GPRS settings. Removing them allowed WLM to connect first time!

Eh? Are you sure? Seems plenty of people on here using Orange without a proxy set....
Just wondering, as I had been having problems, but not now, and I do have a proxy set, but ONLY in the WAP connection, not Orange Internet connection. Hmmm....

There were problems with the first t-mob uk cab posted, but someone put up a fixed version later on that I use without issues. Look about half way through in the UK operator cabs thread.
T-mob apparently use a transparent proxy, so no settings required.

Can't log on net with T-mobile. Handset is new. Could it be broken? Or is it me?

Hi there (I'm in the UK)
it's an unbranded S620 brand new running WM5 (not interested in WM6). My SIM card is with T-mobile which works with my Pocket PC P3600. But I can't get GPRS to work with the S620. Could really use some help guys.
I've set up a GPRS data connection called "T-Mobile GPRS" and have entered the following details:
Access point = general.t-mobile.uk
username = user
password = one2one
I've deleted the Primary DNS, Secondary DNS (more on those later) and also the IP address.
I've activated the data connection (T-Mobile GPRS).
I've gone in to explorer and made the settings there, i.e.
highlighted "Automatically detect settings" and I've selected "WAP Network".
When I try to access the net via explorer I get the error "Your Internet connection is not configured properly. Please verify your settings in Data Connections".
I've checked and doubled checked and re-entered everything 5 times. No dice.
Note: when I go back to re-enter, the Primary and Secondary DNS fields have suddenly become populated with 0.0.0.0
Not sure if this is relevant!
Note: I can connect to the web if I use WiFi and also change the setting "Select Network" in I.E. from "WAP Network" to "The Internet". Which also begs the question, why doesn't this switch automatically? This is the first SP I've had. Ive always had Pocket PC which if you switched WiFi on and opened explorer it used WiFi. Seems a bit of a pain to have to change IE settings as well, unless I've got that wrong as well....
Anyway, I've called T-Mobile and apart from the above all they said is go to your local T-Mobile store and they will check your s/ware. The problem with this is that the store will want to stick their TMobile s/w on and I prefer the handset unbranded. As I explained above I've used the SIM in other unbranded devices before.
Any ideas?
I'm missing my news.bbc.c.o.uk!
Thanks
Change WAP Network to Internet.
BTW, WM6 is ways faster on the Excalibur.
Ka.
That's great it works!
I wonder why the T-Mobile website asks you to enter WAP Network?
By the way, in what regard is WM6 faster?
Download speeds or some other aspect(s)?
Thanks
General responsiveness of the UI is (in my humble opinion) faster with WM6 than with the shipped WM5.
I had an Excalibur for roughly two months. Got it with the shipped WM5, then installed the TMo Wm6 as soon as it was out and was impressed by it (after some tweaking to remove the TMo stuff I didn't need).
Decided to buy the Vox as the keyboard was sliding, shipped with WM6, more compact and nobody would say anymore:"Oh... Cool!!! You have a Blackberry! You must either be important or want to show off!"
Sold the Excalibur, bought the Vox. Vox's WM6 is not even comparable to Excalibur's... Don't ask me why but it find it quite slower. But now I'm getting OT.

Cannot connect EDGE problem.

Hi Friends!
Now seems that I have a serious problem, my Diamond still with the "Cannot connect" problem, displaying the following message in any data transfer attempt:
"Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacture's documentation and try again."
It started just after updating from TLR2 to TLR3 ROM and Unsigned Hard SPL from OliNex, where radio version also changed.
Before that everything was working nice but now I have nice voice and WIFI quality, GPS and SMS are working as it should, but no GPRS/EDGE data connection.
Ive checked the connection settings lots of times, tried all RADIO versions and reflashed the following ROMs with the following Claro (Brazil) connection settings:
Settings > Connections > Connections > My ISP
APN: claro.com.br
User: claro
Pass: claro
Proxy settings: Only first box checked.
Tried setting network band manually for GSM, PAP and CHAP authentication, enabled and disabled HSDPA without success.
ROMs flashed for tests:
- RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_1.35.401.3_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.26.25.09_0.93.25.26_Ship
- RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE_1.37.871.3_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.26a.25.09_1.00.25.03_Ship
- RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_1.93.456.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship
- tlr-diamond-2.08.07.01
- tlr-diamond-3.08.07.16
The same SIM card works perfectly in another cell phone, so I think it isnt the problem as shouldnt be with operator CLARO, here in Brazil.
Ive noticed, doing some internet search, that this problem used to happen in other HTC models, but I couldnt figure a way to solve the problem or what were its true origin.
I really need some help with this issue, since data transfer is very important to me.
Tnx in advance for your attention and help!

Some news:
Finally Ive discovered that my Daiamond is from Honk Kong after searching its part number.
I downloaded the RUU_Diamond_hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_1.93.831.1 ROM and got a surprise that it now have the Claro, and other operators from Brazil, connection settings in HTC Connection Setup, so the connection settings itself shouldnt be the issue.
The "cannot connect" problem persists...
I should donate to someone that can help me solve this problem, since I dont have any more hints to solve it...
Tnx!

Hi Laubscherc;
Double checked that too, even in automatic settings from "HTC Connection Settings Tool"
Anyone knows if there is any way to make any kind of log or debug to see while it tries to connect?
I think Im getting some hint about my problem with EDGE/GPRS connection. Ive entered field test mode by dialing *#*#364#*#* and in the Group GPRS / E-GPRS I can see some fields displaying 255: <Unknown> parameter.
Some of the fields are RLC: Uplink Coding Scheme, RLC: Downlink Code Scheme, MAC mode and others.
I think it should display the settings to work with my operator, but the question is why they arent filled and how to correct this? There some kind of editor for those settings?
alfatag i have exactly the same problem as you.. and as you too don't know how to figure it out. Allready posted a thread here as you did, but nobody helped. I hope some one who know a lot about the subject can help us. At least is better now, i was thinking i was the only one who have such a big problem. ^^

02 - Connected but no data.

Looks like my Desire is connecting to O2 I get a 'H' in the status bar, but I get NO data throughput at all.
Internet, Email and Maps all fail to work.
Any Ideas ?
On my old Nokia the DNS was assigned as 193.113.200.200 & 193.113.200.201
Is there anyway to check /change this on the Desire ?
Thanks
Just changed the phone from auto to GPRS and connect at 'G' and data works.. Why won't 'H' ?

Strange as long as theres a "H" there it should be connected, when it's not connected it disappears.
Try restart the phone or replace the sim card with a new o2 sim card
Forcing connection at G works.
H connects put has no data.
Wifi is fine !
Tried an Orange card, this works first time.
Tried an O2 this had the same issue as mine !
getting to a point where I'm going to give up !
I'll see what happens tomorrow am, visit my local O2.. If that doesn't sort it, it can go back
