how do i know if my 8525 is super cid - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

hi guys ive had my Hermes for a month or two and i was really interested in wm6 my phone is a herm100,os 5.1.195,build 14955.2.3.0,rom1.34.502.1 and a 1.16.00.00 radio my boot loader is the new olipro and i used the free sim/cid unlock every thing went fine but is there a way to actually tell if me Hermes is super cid i appreciate any help or feedback thanks in advance

Bootloader command "info 4" will tell you the real CID of the device.
BUT make sure to flash a radio first, as you seem to be running the unlocker's patched radio and it will report always SuperCID even if the device isn't really SuperCID.

thanks a lot is 1.41.00.10 a good one to flash to show that its unlocked

shows that the ROM/device (whichever) is UNLOCKED.
now is this sim unlocked or CID unlocked or does both mean the same, I have tried a Vodafone sim in my device and it worked ok, I want to upgrade to WM6 but i dont want to screw with my device as i use it daily.
can anyone tell me if i have a CID unlocked phone.
cheers guys.
All O2 Xda Orbits are SIMUNLOCKED, but there are CIDLOCKED!
CID Lock V SIM Lock
AFAIK....
CID Lock - means the device is locked to the ROM either by your carrier, if you have a GSM company provided/branded handset (e.g O2, T-Mobile et.c)
SIM Lock - means the service provider will not let you use the handset with another SIM card i.e if SIM Locked, you may not be able to use another service provider SIM on your handset.
I believe O2 now ship their phones SIM UNLOCKED (which is a great thing), therefore you can insert a T-Mobile, Vodafone, Orange et.c SIM into the handset they provided and it would work, however the handsets are CID Locked, so you cannot flash the ROM to another...unless of course you want to try pof's method.
......my 2 cents
joey jojo, I had the same dilema as you. Only difference is I "bricked" my phone by not planning ahead successfully. The best route I would suggest, from my own painful experience, is to pay the £20 to imei-check and get your Orbit CID unlocked first. That way you can flash away to your hearts content if/when a better ROM comes out.
The mistake I made is I flashed a WM5 HTC ROM using pof's method ( worked like a charm i must add ) to test if it would work. Everything worked OK. Then I went on to flash a WM6 ROM. What I failed to realise is that after the ROM is flashed the CID Lock is back in place and you need to then flash AGAIN with the USPL update before flashing to WM6. I failed to spot this and flashed my Orbit to Brick mode. Thankfully O2 have now repaired it under warranty, I have unlocked it with imei-check and now run BEPE's WM6 ROM with no problems at all. WM6 is SO much fater than WM5.
The choice is yours at the end of the day. Your phone.............hope this helps.

i fail to see how the CID relocked its self... this is unheard of... did you double check the CID unlocking procedure??

All this is sooooo new!!!

A quick (probably simple) question. I have a CID unlocked Orbit, thanks to imei-check. Does this mean I don't need to use the USPL software now to flash handset or must I still do this first?
Thank you for your time.

If you want update Rom NBH format still need Run USPL again..!
Although it may seem redundant, I would run the USPL before loading any of the roms found on this board as a fail safe. I also have an unlock file from IMEI check and I only use that to load non-modified OEM roms like HTC/O2/Dopod etc. Also remember that you have to run the IMEI check or the USPL EVERY time you change roms. Unlocking once will only serve to load a single rom. So save the unlock utility and the IMEI code file they gave you in a file for quick access if you plan on playing the experimentation game. Also, look through the posts there was a thread on how to unbrick your IMEI-unlocked phone no matter what by doing a trick and a HEX edit involving the software you use to CID unlock your phone.
imei-check vs. USPL
there is following difference with imei-check and uspl:
imei-check recalculates and modifies cid area on your device, uspl doesn't.
with uspl, cid area and model id are ignored and not checked.
this enables to perform upgrade of any rom.
rom has to be properly signed though, if you do nbh upgrade with regular upgrade utility.
if you use pdocwrite method, then it is wise to have uspl installed before you write to doc (same for nbh upgrade. always have uspl installed first). otherwise in case of faulty upgrade it will be quite difficult to recover the device.
keep in mind, with next full rom upgrade (say factory rom upgrade, spl will be overwritten). this means you need to run uspl again, before performing upgrade.
regards.

@fdp24,
nice to see you alive and kickin`!
Say, does this mean I could flash the wm6 rom from the hermes (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305940 )
into my uspl unlocked hero ?
tried it with the implemented installer without success!
greetz
Please answer me this then. Just to see if I have it right.
I have my Orbit unlocked by imei-check. I now have Bepe's WM6 installed and running great with absolutely no problems what-so-ever. Since I have unlocked my phone and flashed a new ROM onto it, do I now need to re-unlock my phone if I intend to change the ROM in the future? (Does flashing Bepe's ROM reset the CID-lock?)
imei-check does permanent cid unlock. you don't need to re-unlock device again.
- some roms will not install on device, because they have different model id.
- uspl is a solution for this. with uspl installed, model id is not checked.
- if you use pdocwrite method, then you are writing directly to doc, and don't have to bother with cid and model id. however, if something will go wrong with this method, it could be not very easy to recover cid locked device. optimal in this case to have device with uspl installed, because you will not be dependent on cid and model id.
- wm6. most of cooked roms represents just an os. during upgrade, ipl and spl parts remains intact during upgrade. wich means with uspl installed, after os upgrade you don't need to install uspl again. spl version is 1.11.0000 when uspl is installed on device.
- regular factory upgrade. all parts are upgraded (ipl, spl, gsm, splash, os). uspl will be overwritten. for future upgrades you need to install uspl again.

advice needed, NOT a support issue.

I just bought a TyTN (Herm 200) and I am so excited about putting WM6 on it. I have the HK WWE official release just sitting here on my desktop.
But:
HTC is going to make a Europe edition available soon. It might even have Mobile Office 2007 on it from scratch.
I am unsure if I can later update my TyTN to the European version if i put the HK version on now. What kind of problems might I run into?
My device comes with Swedish WM5, I imagine I can update it to WWE, but what about back to swedish later on, if I should want to do that?
If it was you, would you go ahead with the update to HK and if possible switch to European version later?
Yes I would. You can always switch later - you may need to CID unlock later or use a modified RUU, but you WILL be able to change later.
.
well, I am a bit hesitant to CID unlock my device since it is brand new and still under warranty. thanks for the heads up.
Will I even be able to put the HK WWE on my device without CID unlocking it?
Actually, you will probably not have to CID unlock the device at all. Oli built a custom RUU that bypasses the CID check without CID unlocking. I was juct throwing that in as a disclaimer since I have not tried it. I am SURE that it works though
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298737&highlight=custom+ruu
I can't stress this enough - put olipro 2.10 on it - this is reversible to the best of my knowledge (see vanx's guide in my sig) and this means that it doesn't need CID unlocking (thr RUU_Wrapper is not the bit that does the CID checking)
In any case, I don't very much whether or not, in the case of a warranty claim, anyone would spot the CID unlock or the SPL update (but still don't take my word for it
I've upgraded someone else's phone for them and I put olipro on which was a good job as it got interupted by his daughter pulling the cable out and it saved it from being a brick...
HTH,
Smiffy.
BTW, the cooked ROMs are so much better than the official dopod ROM - my preference is black satin or sleuth's but they're all better than the official one
OK thanks! Great info!

UNBRANDED HTC Universal with v1.01b bootloader

Hi, I need help erasing or downgrading (upgrading) this unbranded HTC Uni from bootloader v1.01b (yes it shows a "b" in bootloader mode) to anything that will let me try and get this thing unlock. I'm suspicious because of the bootloader it stopping me from updating to any radio rom, in particular the special radio rom (0.00.00) for unlocking purposes. Currently on there is radio rom 1.03.00 and try everything to my ability could not get this thing to upgrade or downgrade, I think it's the bootloader is to blame. I have search all over the web and no one ever carry this version of bootloader (v1.01b). So please help me out if you can so I can first get this thing to unlock. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, read it a million times, try every possible method still to no available. Couldn't tell what the oem rom for this device since it's a no branded one. Right now I have jasjar rom in there but again this bootloader version 1.01b (it's the "b" I'm taking about) would'nt let me update to any other radio rom (stuck at 1.03.00). Update the OS rom and Ext rom with no problem.
Hope this help, I have attached a screen shot of my mtty.exe. Thanks in advance.

24/11 - Finally, an unlocked SPL for Hero!

I've had this unlocked Hero SPL for a while now, and it's super useful for flashing unsigned updates and cool stuff like custom splashes. Unfortunately i've not been able to distribute it... until now!
WARNING
A PROBLEM FLASHING THE SPL CAN BRICK YOUR DEVICE - as such, proceed with caution. Don't flash this unless you need it, flash at your own risk, flash only to a GSM Hero and do not interrupt the flashing process (which happens on the first reboot after applying the zip). YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
The SPL, version 1.76.2007, is in the usual update zip format.
Download: MoDaCo
Enjoy!

What exactly is the SPL and what benefits will we get from flashing it?

Searching is hard so why not get someone else to do it
Thanks modaco I will try it after christmas, just to be sure that my phone won't be bricked till I learn some things better
Nice!
Thanks Paul (and any other eventual leakers not mentioned).
Now I can get rid of my hacked SPL
do we copy this zip file to sd card and update through recovery image? like other radio, rom and theme applying?
Would I be right in thinking I need to CID unlock my Orange Hero (rooted) before I can flash an unlocked SPL? Or is that the whole point of an unlocked SPL?
Not planning on using phone on another network at the moment, just want rid of all locks.
I remember way back when, on my Kaiser, I needed to run Kaiserunlocker.exe when hardSPL'd it, but can't remember the exact procedure.
Many thanks
Phone:
UK Orange Hero (rooted)
ROM: MCR 2.8
Radio: 63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22

There should be no need for that, and long as you have rooted phone and a custom recovery you should be able to flash it.
You're confusing CID lock with SIM lock. The SIM lock is what limits your phone to a specific network.
CID lock is software enforced "label" that is used to limit what software can be installed on your phone.
For example: Your Orange branded phone is identical hardware-wise to my sim-unlocked Nordic Hero. However the phones have different CID values. Assuming you havn't rooted it you would be stuck to just running Orange approved ROMs on it. No other ROM would be allowed to be installed even if your hardware is identical and can run it.
CID is a non-issue once the phone is rooted and you got a custom recovery on it that allow us to install whatever we want since it ignores CID.
I'm not that versed in the SIM lock function, but from what I've seen it seems you can get some code to disable it from within Android (look around on the forum for instructions), or there is the serial cable method (explained in a sticky on this forum).
Hope that explains it.
just flashed and flashed modaco startup image too. its so cool. thnx a lot Paul. btw. how to make startup images? cheers
