Battery always at 100% - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hello,
since last night my Hermes has the battery always at 100%...
I have tried to browse the net for some time thru wireless, listening to music, use the gps functions, but the battery show up always at full charge.
Tried a soft reset many times but did not help... and I don't wanna hard reset it because I've installed black 2.5 since it came out and I have installed all my applications and data.. I don't wanna spend anymore hours to import everything.
By the way.. the only thing new i have installed last night is the jasjamming "buzzing" cab patch.
Anyone had the same problem before?
Thanks

i want your battery, it must be "buzzing"....
seriously though, not sure what has happened here or why it is happening.

haha.. yea right, my battery felt that buzzing effect for sure!
Maybe it will last forever... who knows
The obvious problem is that I just can't know how much battery I have left now... Since none of the solutions I've tried seemed to work (including "buzzing" uninstallation) I think i'm gonna wait till my device goes off by itself, then recharge completely the battery from the AC adapter (I never use it) and see what happens...
I think a HR would solve it for sure cause till yesterday it worked fine... I recharged it as always thru USB

something must have changed in the registry as its not polling the battery level anymore.
what 3rd party apps do u have installed, and
have u made any reg changes yourself?

Hi mates..
First- Jas... thanks for black.. testing since yesterday and I feel almost ecstatic. my rom of choice...
Second- gotta same problem.. batt always 100%. first I though it is caused by this option in htweakc to increase batt life, but I've switched it off... no luck.
I dunno, but when I was testing htweakc on wm5 it didn't let me chose wma ringtones, so maybe this app is a damn bugger??
oh yeah.. one more thing- reporting, that softick card export II is not working properly aswell.. cannot connect as a drive.
sorry for off top and thanks 4 help Jas. keep it up mate.

Hi bronx,
may I know which Hermes you have? Mine is a O2 XDA Trion HTC100.
Last night I did the Hard Reset I was NOT planning to do and guess what, after reboot battery was recognized at 80 percent (so all fine again, I tought) but now its not going down anymore stays stuck at 80 percent.
All this is so strange, 2 days ago it was running all fine... and now even after a HR ... without installing apps, well, I really don't know.
Do you remember what you've done before having this problem?
If you can, try a HR too, and let me know.
Thanks.

well... guess what?? today while I was working my batt went down 10%. heh
I guess it's coming back to normal.. I dunno what causes this weird thing with battery, but I was playing with HTweakC options abit and I switched increase batt life (on) and show batt indicator (on).
seems to be ok since then.
maybe with black 2.5 we get wonderbatt... one week on one charging.. well... that would be great
THANK'S ANYWAY JAS! will donate soon...
btw - I use mda vario II

HELP!! My battery is draining very very fast

Hello guys,
Please help me,i don't know what to do anymore,i've search the threads in this forum and try any solution given for the same problem as mine but none of them work.i don't know what makes my battery draining very very fast, only about 5 hours from 100% to 10%..... in standby mode,no running program, no new today plugins
i just charged it again 1 hour ago and now it is down to 90% already without any usage....
there's no problem with my 838pro yesterday, then suddenly after i charged it this morning it suddenly draining very quickly 100% at 9.30 am and down to 10% at 3.00pm (without any usage) after that i charged it again and it already down to 90% in 1 hour without any usage, bt off wifi off. i didn't install any new program or any plugin.it makes me so confuse and desperate my phone just 1,5 months old and already got defective battery??
pls some one help me
thanks a lot.
is bluetooth and or wifi on ?
nope. bluetooth is off wifi is off. usually with bluetooth on i get around 2-3 days of battery life until this morning.
soft reset to make sure there arent any dying apps running at the background.
i already did the soft reset at 90% and now it already down to 80%.i just see it a few hours again, will it remain 80% or will be down again....
so desperate
70% already.. without any usage,no running programs,bt off,wifi off.don't know what happend
is there any recommendation where i can get extended battery?i already give up.don't know what happend.last thing i'll try is to recover with spb back up.
already tried to hard reset.but doesn't effect anything, the battery keep draining very fast.so i guess this is a hardware problem.any help guys??
thanks a lot.
Is your Infrared on? Have you installed or activated a email program to check often for your email or a push email program? Or have you installed a app to update or check weather/news? Or any other proggy that needs communications to update? Soft resetting with a program set to communicate will not turn it off. Also, do you have a low signal strength as opposed to before? Have you changed the band setting under the phone options? Or are you using a different service(3G and not GSM) now that you weren't using before? Has syncing options been changed to wireless? Don't know if any of these helped. Just some of the things I've seen others do and become surprised at the battery usage.

nope i don't run any application above.i'm using 3G service since the first day i bought it and it doesn't effect the battery life.i just sent it the 838pro back to the distributor this afternoon waiting for their explanation and hopefully will solve my problem cause i think it's a hardware problem cause i already done hard reset and still the battery keep draining
YEAH my battery has been drainging faster too
noticed wifi on = fast drain.
Turned it off, it's not draining as fast, but still faster then yesturday
the only difference was, yesturday was tmobile default rom. today is auk3.3 one
Does Edge Drain Faster Then Gsps?
Try this
I had the same problem. (actually do again and won't fix this time - my original and extended but they're both pretty old). But I was able to fix it before by running battery totally dead. keep soft resetting til doesn't come on and try soft reset a few more times. Make sure battery completely dead and its 'charge memory' erased. then let it fully charge. Was recommended to me and it worked at one time. If your battery is new like you sa it might work.
thanks a lot for the suggestions... i got a replacement battery from the distributors... thanks GOD...

P3300 Battery drain problem...

I'm just doing tired of unistall apps and monitor processes to see what causes this all of a suddent. First i thougt it was phone alarm, then voice commnad..now i start to think that this is since i intaleld htc official rom. I had the touch rom before and everything worked fine...now my battery with regular use dont last till the end of the day. Anyone having this problem...any sugestion?
same problem
i even bought a new battery and it only lasts 1 and half days
With the HTC official rom too?
yeah official o2 wm5 rom, think mine has somet to do with the reset button as ive never pressed it yet as i just got the device and i have relised its stuck so think it keeps restarting randomly..
Anyone knows any app wich i can mesure the battery consuption independetly...i just dont know what to do more. Or i need a opinion on stable WM6 Rom for Artemis with some good store space....
Hi all on this Thread, about Battery drain power.
First of all, it could be better to help you if we can see what kind of OS (original or cooked) you own on your PDA.
I saw an option on Tweaks2k2 .NET that could "Boot @ full power mode" with some warnings. Warnings that talk about draining power of you PDA with some alarm reminders that are still activated.
That could be a way to look for.
My rom is the official HTC upgrade to WM6. I didnt use any tweek so far. Just want to see if anyone had this problem with the official rom since this problem appered after i intealed the offcicial rom. I had the touch rom before and everything was fine. I'll try to put the app to see if is set to full power dont know how...thanks.
get a application like BATTERYSTATUS which permits to over/underclock your system and check if your CPU speed is set to the correct one. sometimes making a hard reset right after upgrading a rom is also a good idea
Already have and always used it...its not the processor speed..i think its some app but i cant find wich or the radio version since when i make a 1 or 2 minutes call always 1 or 2% go down

Battery status gives you the comsumption. In that case set the refresh delay to something like 2/3 minutes. Of course, in that case, battery status will have itself a high comsumption of battery. But it can give you clues.
I noticed that battery drain is a lot higher after flashing a ROM, some people have a theory that the battery training starts all over after a flashing process. I think I can confirm that. My battery never lasted more than 1.5 days after flashing a ROM and my first GPS fix took about 3 minutes. A few days later my battery was fine again.
If the power consumption info from batterystatus is not enough try this taskmgr: http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm or get some battery benchmark software from on of the big freeware sites.

lose 70% charge in 1 day!

hi
i have no prolem with my p3300 until 4 days ago!!! suddenly my device use 70% of battry in 1 day! i try soft reset, but not solved! also cpu goes to 36santi grad! but no process in task manager.also i try airscanner antivirus! and no virus ...
i use artemis tuch 3
please help me
Hi,
I am having similar problems since I installed Black and Blue 4.3.
Phone appears to discharge twice as fast. However, sometimes a soft reset seems to increase the battery again!!
I am going to try a hard reset to see if that fixes it. I have also ordered a new battery.
Anybody else had this and more importantly did you find a solution.
Regards
same here on orbit.all started 1 week ago.the phone is 8 months old.I can't believe the battery is gone so fast.
same here
same here battery life is crap
even with obly a few calls
whats up? is it the rom?
Okay,
A number of us with the same problem.
Can you all confirm what model you have and what ROM you are running. Also any new apps you have installed at the start of the battery drain. I will kick off
T-Mobile MDA Compact UK model.
Tom Condon's Black and Blue 4.3 ROM.
Only new software is AC S2U2 latest version.
Regards
htc p3300
artemis touch 3.0
no new software
bluetooth and wi-fi is off
no program running in task manager
but when i put my device near headset,i can hear some sound like TEGH TEGH!!!! every 1~3 sec.
i know it will solve by install new rom,but i want to find main problem. today i turn on then turn off my all units(bluetooth,wi-fi,camera ...) i must stay and see what will happend
Yeah thats the reason why i sell my Artemis, battery life is just crap. I call allot for work and use my phone allot, my battery is good for just one day . So byebye artemis and welcome HTC Touch .
I had these problems to..
Who I fixed it: I flashed original t-mobile ROM. Finished the install EXT-rom..
Did a hard reset, 2 soft buttons + reset, then green ring button..
Installed the USPL then HTC WM6 ROM, before ext-rom installation a reset. Then did a radio rom update, to latest version.
I can go up to 3 days without needing to recharge with GPRS @ 30 minutes sync..
Hello, same horrible problem. After 4-5 days the upgrade to B&B 4.1 with flo3the power of battery go down very very fast and a working day is impossible. When i bought the Artemis the first thing thats wondering me was the working life, but now...
I kill all task in background, set to maximum power saving, without effect.
Don't want to think that the best solution is to come back at wm6 standard.
P3300
WM6 5.2.1620
B&B 4.1
Flo3
SDHC support with 4GB card
DualSim 15th generation
I recently read a thread - either here or at ppc-welt.de - where some people found out that the gsm unit consumes a lot more power when you have a cooked ROM. When they put their Artemis next to some speakers the got that strange buzzing noise that you usually get when someone calls or you receive a message.
That sound in the speakers was there a lot more often than usually, when they switched back to the official ROMs the problem disappered. If I can find it again I will post a link. I haven't had any problems with my battery yet using Touch 2.1 WWE, only after a fresh upgrade pdas seem to consume a lot more power for a few days and get back to normal then.

what a pity because installing betterystatus (or configuring it properly if you had it already) would probably solve all that problems.
most (if not ALL) roms come with batterystatus... and sometimes it seems to misconfigure itself and overclock your CPU very much, which ofc leads to fast battery discharge. configure batterystatus to 201mhz and problem solved (or even lower if you dont need uber speed mobile, but loads of battery)
my p3300 battery lasts 2-3 days, doing some calls, using bluetooth for sync, listening to some mp3 while in the underground and using tomtom to find a street 15 minutes. nearly 4 days if totally on standby
Hi,
I have reinstalled my phone using the T-Mobile ROM.
I will let you know if that sorts the battery problems.
Regards
I had this problem after installing the htc official rom. I installed back the touch rom from the forum and everything is ok now. Tha battery last me again 4 days with mixed regular use.
Hi,
Tried the T-Mobile ROM and whilst under general use the battery drain is slightly reduced as soon as I ran Tom Tom it dropped by about 30% in 20 minutes. When I first got the device I could run Tom Tom for about 4hours before the battery died.
I have ordered a new battery so will see how that goes.
It is a bit frustrating not being able to pinpoint the problem.
Regards
my mobile service provider found problem with their GPRS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i just install this software and disable GPRS
just 23% battery used in 20hour!
but i dont have any program that automaticly connect to internet! and also always i keep my quickGPS up to date by active sync ....
please test this and DISABLE your GPRS and see what happend!! is it our problem or another ... ?
Hi,
Disabling your GPRS may fix the problem but it should not affect the battery this way.
I have just put in a new battery and it is charging just now.
Will update how the battery drain is with the new battery.
Regards
Hi,
Did a quick test running Tom Tom and battery usage is back to normal with the new battery fitted. Obviously the old battery was on the way out.

mine is over a year old now... it lasts about a day, mainly caus i spend all day on t'internet using GPRS
cant say i've noticed the battery get worse since i bought it.
who know how much temperature affect on battry life ?
it seems when i put my device in a hot place,3.5 day working decrease to just 2 day!

opinion on my battery, also noticed charge light flicker

facts.
US tmobile rom.
100 % battery at 8am from overnight charge.
used config 3.3 for all advized power savings.
no push internet, or anythign like that..weather etc..all basicaly stock.
no running programs..
connected on the EDGE network.
downloaded 5 emails, responded to 1
browsed opera for 5 minutes
used built in youtube to watch a 5 minute vid clip.
youtube vid clip took 30 minutes to download (due to edge speed)
back of phone very warm as if it were ON a charger
now i am at 75% bat life.
info says
0 standby time
0 talk
1 hour 20 min device usage (of which was only what i had above.)
can i get an opinion? or better yet, can someone do the EXACT same thing and if your at 75% after doing what i did?
i just dont feel right about it...it seems yesterday before i got advice about using my wireless... i tried edge today... and it seems to be identical as yesterday... maybe i feel this way because last week i noticed when i was charging in the car and at work via laptop... the charge light kept going out after 10 seconds and flickering even though it was around 70% full...kind of like i feel that i have 25% dead cells or something...
Hi there,
You might want to try this as i remeber reading this in a thread about the battery life of the tp 2. With adv config do not put the power saving settings on for the memory card as for some reason it uses more power.
However if you are not using a mem card then I am not sure.
Hope that helps
yes i did see that, treid both ways.. no change.
I spoke to tmobile yesterday and they are sending me a new battery.
today i turned the phone on at 100% and seen it drop 3 percent in 15 minutes reading 1 text message....
ill know if this is all solved possbily friday, if i get my new battery.
Hi again,
If it helps, still on stock Rom, not used advanced config to configure any power settings, prefer the manual approach of use the reg for anything I feel the need to change.
Been a slow day today with the Rhodium, but here's my stats for you.
Battery currently at 80%, not using the 1% tweak either.
9hrs 38 mins standby since last full charge (left in docking bay overnight)
6 minutes talk time
37 minutes device usage
16GB Sandisk card, HSPL, Stock Rom, Stock Radio, Tmob UK
Bluetooth allways on, though not always connected (Mainly HFP and A2DP usage for in car)
my advice, as posted before, do a hard reset, don't apply any tweaks at all and see how it goes.
I have installed a great deal of apps and quite a few reg enhancements (See my tweaks thread 90% of them are on my device)
manually set to GSM (constant bouncing from HSPDA in my location if not forced, which hammers my charge)
Installed apps,
SPB Mobile Shell & TF3D for UI
Exchange push mail active
TT7, Coreplayer, Skype, TCPMP, FMRadio, DOTFred Taskmanager,MAXTTM TF3D Config, WKTask, PIMBackup, PowerRadio, SPB Radio, SPB TV, MP3 Trimmer, MP3 Alarm, Beastmaster, VoiceCommand, and a *** load of games.
Are you using a wall charger to charge in the evenings or only USB?
How low do you let the device get before charging again.
Normally I would charge whenever possible, charges in the car cradle, charges when docked in the office.
However today I've let stay uncharged all day to monitor just for you mate
Cheers,
Beasty
THANKS.. that does give me some info..
im definatly going to get a new battery..
i will hard reset tonight...
you mention you dont use config 3 for your tweaks, you just go into the reg...
i was thinking that too.. this all seemed to start around the time i installed that program....( i did check the memory card powersave option)
tonight i will hard reset...and try what you do...
appreciate your help...
quick question, since im doing a hard reset and reloading my tmo rom back in to stock.... i read a post where someone said that if you cancle the "extra" instalations during this time, it wont load in the extra tmobile bloatware...
are you familiar with this?
I have also noticed if the notification lights goes blinking or maybe flickers, the battery is consumed more than its usual when it stays off. I do not know why....

Yes,
You used to be able to soft reset during auto config, however I had heard reports that this no longers works on the Rhodium.
Cheers,

I noticed that processor intensive stuff like watching videos drains the battery quite fast. I was watching a 2 hour movie and the battery was down by about 50%. So battery killers I noticed so far are:
- Surfing on mobile data connection (just keeping it online but without data transfer seems to have little impact on battery life, so things like push mail or push internet shouldn't drain the battery that much).
- GPS
- Anything CPU / Graphic intensive like Videos, Navigation system.
No surprises here, actually. Apart from that, i have very decent battery life of about 3 days normal usage (little surfing, push mail, push internet, 10 minutes of calls per day and using a few apps (task tracker and a few games .
heres an update...
last night i did what beasty recomended... i hard reset.. installed only icons etc...stopped push internet...opera..etc...
the only thing i DIDNT reinstall was System congif 3.3..
i immediatly noticed a difference in LESS battery drain....
so far, i am leanign towards System config program does something that increases battery drain...
althogh there are a few settings in that program i would like to use, i am very hesitant on reinstalling it as it might cause a problem again...
heres a couple questions for all..
is there any way i can copy MY rom with all the settings programs icons, etc etc.to be able to flash my stuff back? Not just back up my stuff.. but everything i done..so if i ever had to hard reset, i would be hard reseting to MY settings and rom and not factory tmo rom?
also, if i were to install system config, and it changes settings...if i were to UNINSTALL sys config, do all the settings now go back to what they were before i installed it?
i would like to try and confirm it was sys config causing problems, but dont want to have to hard reset all over again...
Uninstalling Advanced Config will NOT revert settings.
Look into UC, most cooked Roms are UC compliant now thanks to Sleuth's code, see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366337
and
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=AutoRun
Once you understand UC, you can create your own customisations, apps list to install etc etc, this way each time you flash a Rom, or hardreset all your apps and configs are applied automatically by UC.
Hope that helps,
ps, advanced config is not currently listed as supporting the Rhodium
Cheers,
Beasty
yes that helps ALOT!
thank you..
i will see if i can understand UC... maybe if so then it would help me greatly...
i will stay away from advance config...
thanks for all your help... im currently learning about my TP2 while learning how to rebuild my clutch on my Ninja...lol...

Enjoy,
Rebuilding the clutch on a Ninja........ easy job too
Rebuilt many a bike, I think every rider should, gives you a much better understanding and appreciation for your machine, especially when your getting close too the 200MPH mark round the track, who better to trust than yourslef, knowing that you put every single nut and bolt in there.
Great fun, I once burnt a whole through two pistons at 180 (fortunately down the straight)
Seems we share a few similar hobbies mate, good luck with both.
The Wiki is always a good place to start on here when learning things.

both are a great help from people like you... i just finished replacing my fork seal... but its still leaking.. ill have to look very close on second repair.. must be some sort of scratch... the best was when i using my TP2 to view the repair manual as i was working on it!!

[Q] Another Battery Drain Thread (But this is ridiculous)

Firstly, I know what I'm doing when it comes to flashing. But I'm completely dumbfounded here..
Okay in standby mode, with wifi on i usually get -3 to -7mA.
But suddenly a few days ago, my phone doesn't sound my alarm in the morning because it had turned its self off.
Imagine my surprise when I had to plug it to start it. Turns out it had drained 60% in little over 3 hours.
So I began testing - turns out my phone had started to fluctuate between -90 and -150 mA EVEN IN AIRPLANE MODE.
After trying countless solutions (inc many different ROMs), I had had enough. I full wiped from CWM and installed fresh ARHD 5.1.6, skipped all setup, installed just titanium, and restored just battery calibration and currentwidget. I calibrated and then left it overnight in airplane mode - and STILL it fluctuated just as wildly.
I wouldn't post this if I hadn't tried everything, but I have spent hours reading xda trying to amend this. Changing radios didn't help (am using latest atm), changing ROM didn't help (not GB or froyo or CM7), even restoring my nandroid from when my battery drain was normal didn't help.
Does anyone have ANY ideas as to why this is happening?
The only thing I can conceivably think of is that my battery is giving up.
Is this good enough cause to get a replacement battery/phone from HTC?
Edit: Meant to post this is Q&A tread, sorry
if you changed the ROM and radio, then i'd be near to positive to say that the problem is from the battery!!
Buy another one and give it a long 20-22 hrs charge (although HTC recommends 8hrs - but they talk alot of crap ) before opening your phone.
Or, alternatively, see if anyone (friends/family) can lend you a battery and see if the problem still persists

Official batterys are expensive... does HTC do replacements?
not sure, never tried or asked, gotta phone them up!
have you tried turning USB debugging on? that solved it for some people.
i also had this problem, and the USB debug didnt work, but i found that it was something to do with HTC hub repeatedly trying to connect to the internet and using a shed load of CPU in doing so. aeroplane mode didnt help me either, but after turning off everything with HTC in its name it worked again. (specifically HTC sense in accounts and sync)
hope that helps, worth a try.
oh and my battery is fine now, lasts 2 days or so. can last a week though.
still charge it every night though.
Thanks for replying, but USB Debugging was always on for me, and when I tested with fresh install I didn't put ANY accounts in so the HTC thing shouldn't be an issue. i guess I'll just try the replacement battery thing
sometimes the radio signal kept switching also may cause a drain in your battery.
Setting > Mobile networks > Network Mode > Preferred Network Mode
for me i preferred it to be set as 'WCDMA' rather than 'GSM/WCDMA Auto'. The draw back is that i may lost signal if the signal is weak but this setting prevent the radio from being switching.
OKAY GUYS I FIXED IT
How you may ask?
I HAVE NO IDEA
I was just flashing things over trying to fix it and suddenly it went back to normal. I'm currently using a UV kernel, so maybe that's helping too.

Dont want to go too far OT, but how do you measure the battery current?
I assume you dont physically wire up an ammeter, or do you?
Ian P
Hahahahahaha, that's brilliant. I'm signaturing that
But no, I don't. The phone creates estimates of the present current/voltage loss, much the same way as it makes estimates of the battery % left.
So all you need is an app to log that! Currentwidget is the lightest, but I recommend battery monitor widget
OK its a battery monitoring app, but can you see the current drain whilst actually using other programmes?
Some apps use full screen so even the top status bar is not visible.
