App Unlock for S621 on Rogers - HTC Excalibur

I recently got an S621 and I am in love with it so far. I am wanting to add a few programs and homescreens but need to get the phone unlocked. I have look around and seen people have had success doing it while others have had troubles. I am hoping someone who has successfully got the app unlock to work could they please give step by step directions and any programs used.
Thanks

It will cost you about $40,- US

he said app unlock, not sim unlock. app unlock is free just follow any guide. For example use steps 1-2 here:
http://www.navizon.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=198
Then once I've done that I turn off security completely using this:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...8c-d587-47e0-908b-09fee6ea517a&displaylang=en
Then you never see any annoying pop ups again.

If it is just app unlock you're after, try HTC Unlock (attached).

when i try to change my values as per that guide. i get
"error: unable to perform this operation"

As an HTC S621 owner, I tried all the free unlocking methods, with no luck.
You can't even edit the suggested registry entires.
You have to pay to get the phone unocked first.
THEN you can use the software unlocking tools.

I just app unlocked a S621 from Rogers using SDA_ApplicationUnlock and had no problems.
G

I've also tried to unlock the phone via different methods
1. regedits - tried the regeditSTG, HTCUnlock as well totalcommander and not allowed to change entry's
2. Microsoft Security configuration manager - Gives a message say that its a two-tier prompt and this configuration does not allow you to chage
3. imei uk - the app actually crashes my pc. gonna try it at work.
4. SDA app gives the message that this phone can't be unlocked
Damn I hate rogers, any other "bulletproof" ways to force flash the phone? and even if the dashv2unlock from imei uk works will it actually unlock the phone or will I get the same "not correct permissions to run app" on the phone?

the imei unlock worked for me. then you run the sda unlock app, and all is good.

i paid the $38 and got my S621 unlocked from imei-check, then tried that SDA thing and it says "phone is not unlockable"
I'm just going to flash WM6 and move on.

Yeah i did the unlock thing but it didnt removed the CID lock, you just need to flash it and you can do whatever.

what's the difference between App and Sim unlocking?

app means you can add any application, wether or not it's microsoft signed or not. Simlock means you can use any sim card in there.

How to upgrade to wm6 with htc-620 free.

My excalibur is not original locked, i want to upgrade to wm6, but when i try to upgrade, i got a message error `[244].
Is not possible to upgrade if the phone is not a t-mobile dash?
Thanks
Run the installer again once you get that error message. Should be fine.
i think doesnt works, the same message error; invalid model....
thanks
Ahhh, invalid model ID! Sorry, I must have misunderstood... You need to download the bootloader upgrade first.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/smartphones/Excalibur/RUU_Excalibur_SPL-1.11_UpgradeOnly.exe
Run that and then try upgrading.
I don't know where that bootloader downgrade came from but whoever did it deserves a medal.
Allowed me to go from T-Mobile WM6 back to HTC s620. Without it, I'd have been screwed.

with spl-1.11 upgrade only same result, id error.... any solution?
Thanks a lot.
Hi,

if this Update SPL 1.11 also doesn't work you'll have to unlock with IMEI-check and do this steps
but my pne is free
my phone is free, i have shop without any operator, original unlocked.
Thanks
it coud works with the modifid update with imeicheck?
I have modified these two parameters, but i have not unlock code because my htc-620 is original unlocked.
thanks in advance
The unlock which is necessary is to set the phone in "engineering mode" so that it accepts every ROM. This has nothing to do with SIM or net lock.
IMEI check sets your phone into that mode to remove SIM/net lock.
So it's a 2in1 unlock.
So even your phone accepts every SIM you have to unlock it to this engineering mode with IMEI-check. ATM there is no other known method to do this.
then, i need to send my imei to imeicheck to unlock in order to access to the engine mode?
Thanks!!

Applying T-Mobile WM6 ROM to UNLOCKED Original HTC620

Hi Guys and Gals,
so spend all day surfing through this postings here and could not find a reliable way to put the T-Mobile WM6 update on to my Original unbranded and UNLOCKED HTC 620.
Found one post about using some patching including IMEACHECK as the passwod... but can use that as it talks about unlocking , which I dont need ... or do I...
Thnaks for all the help in advance as this will hopefully not only me, but also others seeking to do the same...
Cheers
Hi,
you can do the update in the exact way described here (you need the imeicheck unlocker and a unlock key for your mobile).

Thats the one I am refereing to it dont work... still said that i need another updater...
does any one else know how to get this done
Can you tell what's the steps you are taking and what's giving the error in details? I upgraded two units with the process and have no issues.
Keep in mind, unlocking the phone via imei-check or other sources is necessary, as you need to CID unlock the unit, which the unl file and dashv2unlock.exe does. My units were both SIM unlocked, but for the upgrade process you have to CID unlock it too, as you are using a ROM from a different provider. Also don't forget to patch the updater and nbh files, exactly as listed.

I did all mentioned including the patching of the files except the unlock part as my device came straight from HTC. Are u meaning that although this is direct from HTC that I still have to go through some unlocking steps ?
what is this unl file and the dashv2unlock.exe ????
Thanks
Yes, as I stated in my previous post, your device needs to be CID unlocked, and HTC devices are CID locked (SIM lock or in other words network provider lock is different, I know HTC devices are SIM unlocked).
CID locking will prevent you to apply different provider released ROMs. Simply go to http://www.imei-check.co.uk/dashunlock.php (or another Dash CID unlock provider), supply your IMEI, make the payment, and you'll receive access to two files:
dashv2unlock.exe - The application to run on PC to fully unlock the unit
yourimeinumber.unl - Unlock file generated by imei-check, specific to your unit's IMEI number
And follow the info to the point. It will work then. I used it on two Rogers HTC S621 units, both were SIM unlocked, CID locked.

[QUEST] To save a ex-blacklisted Hero

Super condensed prologue:
UK T-Mobile HTC Hero bought from ebay
Unlocked via an IMEI generated code (i.e not serial cable method)
Worked fine for 3 months
Sudden onset of 'No Service' and 'sim cannot connect to this network
The battle:
Use CheckMEND to find status of IMEI
It's bloody blacklisted! (Seller is conducting insurance fraud...)
Contact T-mobile - they confirm there are many problems with the IMEI
Contact the seller - no help
Explain to seller I have figured out his full name, address, phone number and that I now know his wife was recently prosecuted for benefit fraud (she is actually the registered seller)
He tells me he will call later
No call - I call him, he says I won't get my money back
The uplifting moment:
I call Tmobile - they have now removed the blacklist
The seller must have informed Tmobile that it wasn't really lost
The crash:
The blacklist seems to have modified the handset so it's locked to Tmobile again.
T-mobile SIMs work.
All other report No Service.
Also, going into the test mode (VOL DOWN + PWR ON) I find that the SIMLOCK status now reports FILE OPEN FAILED!
Quest?:
I will fix this problem....
I've already:
Made a gold card
Flashed Generic latest ROM
Does anyone know how to re-flash the SIMLOCK area - even to default would help?
Would running the CID commands through a serial cable help?
To note: Now rooted with instant root. Will try and flash a recovery image and see what happens.
[METHOD] (source forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4750940&postcount=4 - edited a live download location for Instant Root)
I first followed the instructions on making a goldcard and then flashed the 2.73.405.5 WWE rom fine.
Now make sure you have the cm-hero-recovery.img (content.modaco.net/dropzone/m...covery-1.0.zip) on the root of your sdcard.
Aswell as Instant Root (tecnophone.it/wp-content/uploads/Instant-Root-by-tecnophone.zip) now install Instant Root on the phone.
It should pop up with a notification "instant root was successfully" or along those lines. (If you have a problem installing Instant Root make sure Settings>Applications>Unknown Sources is checked)
Instant root then allows for root access with adb shell using the following 2 commands:
1) adb shell
then
2) su
the icon should change from a $ to #.
Now flash the recovery image with the following command:
1) flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-hero-recovery.img
[/METHOD]
If flashing fails I'll try doing this with serial commands. I've seen a few people about the net with similar issues so hopefully if I am successful!
Just some extra info...
The handset may not be locked back to t-mobile as you cant lock a handset OTA, T-mobile are the only UK network that can actually amend the blacklist for other networks as its owned by T-mobile. When a csa/csr what ever they call them, removes the blacklist it removes it from T-mobile only as the assumption is you should not remove another networks blacklist request. If you are not the original owner of the handset and some CSR has removed they they have made a mistake (you bonus) but if it was not originally blacklisted by t-mobile the other networks will stay dead to it..
Thanks for the reply.
I called o2 who say it is not blacklisted on their system.
Hmmm, I'm not sure where I am left...
It works on T-mobile. but not other network.
It doesn't ask for an unlock code - Is there another lock somewhere?
I have just remembered the name of the system "Dali" if you speak to a team manager and say you have been told you need the blacklist removing from it if its still on..
If its not showing on that then it must be a handset issue..

It is definately no longer blacklisted - meaning it's handset.
So this could be coincidental timing? I have a copy of the CheckMEND report saying it had been blacklisted.
Are we sure that T-mob cannot do something OTA?
Is there any way to restore the simlock data to default - I.e. relock it so I can re-enter my unlock code?
Im not sure about re locking it tbh, good luck!!

I've got the patched recovery image on now - using gold card.
Could you do me a favour and do the following and post results for comparison:
Turn phone on holding VOL DOWN + POWER
Then goto Fastboot
Then press CALL to do the SIMLOCK test
I get:
--
FAT32 Init Ok
Open File Fail

Your result may really help guide my research&testing here!
I also just thought - would one of those Rebel Sim Cards get round this?!
I have just ordered an unlock code on ebay to help you test as mine is t-mobile uk also,
Fat32 Init OK
Open File Fail
Reboot device?
is what i got!!

I have a Hero (G2) which was on T-Mobile but was unlocked with a code from eBay.
Just tried the simlock test and get the same result as everyone else...
Code:
Fast32 Init OK

Reboot device?
I'm using a custom ROM but is based on a stock one.
I have an unlocked phone and I also get the same output regarding simlock.
(not rooted, stock rom)

[GUIDE] Unlock you i927 for free

This method has been sent to me by android235, I can not personally attest that it is working so please if you do that, make sure you have a backup or odin to reinstall your phone
After root, use a file explorer.
I use the ES File Explorer downloaded from the market:
- Launch it
- Goto "Settings> File Settings". Be sure that Show hidden files is checked
- Also be sure is checked "Settings > Root Explorer"
- In "Settings > Home directory" write "/" (without the quotes)
explore the "efs" folder in the root
- move the following files in a backup folder somewhere to your internal SD card (you will need them if you want to restore later to original phone setup) : .nv_core.bak, .nv_core.bak.md5, .nv_data.bak, .nv_data.bak.md5, nv_data.bin, nv_data.bin.md5. Moving them they will be deleted from the efs folder (that's ok).
Reboot.
Now you will have it unlocked but with the generic IMEI.
Peace out.

I suppose the files you saved are to restore if needed, for the rest I don't know as like I said did NOT try myself
Nah. I meant whether it is possible to restore IMEI while still having unlock. If I restore the files, the lock should be back. (My glide is unlocked, but thats not the point)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using XDA
I'd rather spend 25$ for an unlock key on Americanunlocker.com
(worked great for me)
In fact, I have tried to hack the nv_data.bin but seems that it is not the same as galaxy SII and galaxy S.
Although you will get unlocked (generic IMEI) when removed those files,
I highly recommand that you have to backup them in a very safe place. Otherwise if you encounter any problems, you have to sent back to AT&T / Rogers.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using XDA
The method will work.. i had tested it earlier.. a generic imei will be assigned..
however some operators do not accept generic IMEI..

This method is perfect ! My phone accept the Free Mobile's SIM card and is recognized by Orange and Free Mobile's networks.
(It connects too on the two another french carriers when theses networks are too low, I don't know why and if the reason is the AT&T ROM or the unlock method. By the way, although I am connected I can't do anything.)
i don't like having a genric IMEI. will wait for anther method or just pay for an unlock key (when i get my device ofcurse )
What do you mean by generic IMEI? Is it all 0s? Does this mean that it will no longer be detected as a smartphone?
I just tried this method and it did work for me thank u
one Q is there any way to fix genric IMEI and keep unlock .
Edit: I restore my files from a back up and relock the phone ..went to ebay bought unlock code for about 8 dollars ..Done

I've done the same thing with another website -more expensive x-( (Fastgsm.com), although it worked.
The only problem though is that every now and then the phone asks me again for the network unlock code. This has forced me to carry a text message with the info on the phone. So far it has asked me 3 times the unlock code. Every time I input the same code received, every time it accepts it and gets unlocked. But I think this is strange, this is the first phone I had that this happens.

Captivate Glide (Rogers version I927R).
I'm very interested in this thread since i'm french, and about to buy a phone in the US to use it here, in France.
If i understand well, the trick for unlocking it by file deletion is a bad idea since generic IMEI are not too well accepted on french networks, and when you buy an unlock code, it keeps prompting you sometimes.
My other option is the myTouch 4G Slide, so i'd probably better go for it

[Q] HTC Phone 8s Unlocking Procedure from box

So, i've received right now my new HTC 8S from Telecom Italia Mobile in substitution of my old jailbreaked iPhone 4.
So i want to obtain its best from this hardaware, is my first time i've a Windows Phone 8 Terminal and i want every root right and attribute to installa whatever i want.
What is the correct procedure to do this ?
It's sim operator locked, so i've followed the link cellunlocker.net and i use my IMEI to unlock the phone. I'ts works.
After that I've downloaded this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2094384 <-- I dont know if that is a modifie rom, that allow to run alternative store or homebrew software, there is no tescription, but, i've tried to flash my phone whit this, but it return an error, somhting like an error with CID. What's wrong ?
I know, i'm a noob, and my procedure it's uncorrect, but, were i can find a guide with the correct flux diagram to obtain best by my phone hardawre ?
Tankyou for fast reply.
Hi, I'm not sure if you've already managed to unlock your phone but here's what I did to unlock my two HTC 8S' locked to Telstra (Australia).
It took me a little bit to find out if the online unlocker sites were legitimate. The first one I tried which was legit but didn't have a code for my 8S was HTCSimUnlock.com. They offer a full refund (which I'm still waiting for) if the code doesn't work or if one is not available in their system.
I then tried cellunlocker.net, again they offered a full refund if it didn't work so I gave it a go. Success! Within 10 minutes of my order I received an email with the 8 digit unlock code which I entered and could then use my Vodafone SIM.
The part that sucks is that the first 8S died after trying to install an update. I got it replaced and was had to pay for another unlock code. Anyway. I'm happy to say it can be done.
I'm in the process of uploading a video of me unlocking the 8S but if you have a look on Youtube for unlocking HTC phones, the process is the same.
Simply the process is:
1. Order an unlock code using the IEMI on the phone or box.
2. Put in SIM from a carrier you want to use.
3. Power it on, it will prompt you enter the unlock code.
4. Enter the unlock code.
5. That's it enjoy!
Good luck!
he want's to flash his phone not unlock it ( he already did that). I would like to know that also how to root my htc 8s
Not possible...yet :/
