Is there a way to stop activesync from starting up except when I actually need it to run?
What I always do is open the 'connection settings' and untick the box 'Allow USB connections'
When I want to sync, I tick the box again.

Hello Everyone,
I have my XDA 2S configured to Sync Mail/Contacts/Calendar with our Exchange server over the Internet connection. Whether I am wireless at home, or use GPRS when Im out and about, its really rather effective.
However, generally speaking, I want to only have the Sync happen when I press send / receive from within the Inbox app, or when I select Sync from within Activesync. I would then expect that I can disconnect the GPRS and forget about it.
What actually seems to happen is that Activesync stays active, and the sync happens every 5 mins or so after that. Even if I close activesync down (yes its really closed, using PocketNav) it seems to re appear and resync again. I have to do a soft reset to stop it happening.
Any Ideas?
Hit Start and go to Active Sync. Make sure you are NOT connected to ActiveSync.
Hit Tools and go to Options.
Uncheck the two check boxes indicating syncing with the device. After this hit Options.
Please make sure that When Cradle, Enable PC Sync through USB and not through modem or any other connection.
After this put the dot on Disconnect when done. Usually it tries to maintain connection.
Hit OK.
In activesync go to Tools -->Options, then hit the "Mobile Schedule" tab on the bottom of the screen. Choose "manually" from all three of the drop down boxes. That should take care of it. You can only access the "options" menu in Activesync if you are not currently connected to your PC or connected to the exchange server via GPRS.
Hi,
Activesynch 3.8 allowed you to select whether the computer or XDA would be prioritsed in case of information conflict.
I am now using Activesynch 4.2 which does not seem to offer the user to select if a conflict arises.
I have lost a couple of appointments because the PC overode the XDA.
Anyone got any hints to improve ActiveSynch??
Thanks
I have exactly the same gripe moving from my SPV C500 which ran Active Sync 3.8. That version of Active Sync was great. It synced almost twice as fast as this newer more improved version... And as you say it also gave the option of which device to use as the master in the event that two records were identified on both PC and SPV and they differed in the details.
Why oh why did Microsoft change this???!!!!
Beta 4.5 (2) allows you to choose when a conflict is found, it is available on the microsoft downloads site.
Doesn't the "Souce Settings" on the Activesynce running on your PDA work for this??
If there is a conflict, you select either
"replace the item on my device" or
"Keep the item on my device"
I thought this is what this settings if for??
Hey... trying to sync my contacts from outlook onto my new orbit.
when i connect the device it takes me through the wizard and i select contacts to sync. it comes up 'connected' and the 'explore' button is ighlighted ... but it doesn't sync and the 'sync' button is greyed out. the tools/options command is also greyed out. when i disconnect and reconnect the device i get the wizard again thinking it is a completely new device and i set it up again... this happens over and over!! all i want to do is sync my contacts!!!!...

I was trying to access the PC side of Activesynch when not connected to Orbit.
Itr;s much easier to understand on the Orbit end.
Thanks again!
btw, Activesync 4.5 (after beta) is available.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync45.mspx
In activesync click 'tools' then 'options'. Right click on the PC name (Right at the top - not the individual applications). Click 'source settings'. You can then select the source in case of conflict.
Mouldy
I have the Att Tilt 2(Rhodium), tried million different roms and connection settings, but no resolution. I can't receive emails over wifi or activesync only over 3G/GPRS, I think i know what i'm doing and went through every connection possibility.
I attached picture to let you guys see, this only happens when i'm connected to wifi or active sync.
P.S i went through every thread on this forum related to this, i think.
Just to let you know everything else works fine on wifi(ie, opera, weather, etc.)
in the email advanced settings you can tell it what network profile to use.
i did that, it's set for internet not medianet
I'm facing a similar problem, does anyone have a solution to it....
Hi
I had this problem a while back, from what I remember, I had to disable the proxy (T-Mobile) under Start > Settings > (Settings tab > Menu > All Settings) > Connections (folder) > Connections (icon) > Manage Existing Connections > Proxy Settings Tab > Uncheck 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet'.
Ensure that the e-mail client is set to connect to 'The Internet' by accessing Menu > Tools > Options... > Select your account > Edit Account Setup > Next > Next > Next > Next > Advanced Server Settings > Network connection (drop-down box) - select 'The Internet' >Done > Next > Next > Finish.
Seems to work for me on WiFi... I think Activesync could be controlled through the 'Allow data connections on device when connected to PC' checkbox in Activesync (or Mobile Center) Device Settings?

Does anyone know how to turn off notifications in Yahoo! Mail? Before this new version, you could go into "Settings" and turn it off completely. Now it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

In yahoo: Open the side menu, scroll all the way down to the bottom, tap settings, account settings, notification settings. There you can uncheck "show in status bar"
-or-
in android settings, application manager, tap y mail, uncheck "show notifications"
