I just upgraded my HTC hermes TyTN from WM5 to WM 6. It all works fine except that the language isnt working. Our local dansih letters isnt on the new WM6. I was told that I needed to reinstall the old bootlader (or overwrite the new with the old) and that it was called something with SPL or IPL.
I badly want to return to my old ROM with WM5.
Can someone PLEASE tell me in details how I do so...
Kind regards
Claus
Unable to downgrade from WM6 and install original rom
Hi,I'm in the same boat. I upgraded to WM6 Black to see if this rom would fix the issues with my jasjam locking up, but it is syill doing the same thing. I need to put the original Rom back on, but activesynch shuts down during the process of installing the original rom. I've tried the search function to find information on what to do, but being an old noob, I am unable to find out what to do. If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate the help. Once I have the original rom back on I can send the phone back to get it fixed or replaced.
you will prob have your posts read by more cable hands in solving your issue if you post in your respective devices forums where owners of your devices with the roms on them are more likely to stumple opon your question

My touch-screen is sometimes stuck (beeps all the time), or not responding at all. Very annoying. It worked like that in WM5, now also in WM6.
When I send it back (guarantee period), do you think I have to flash my TyTn back to WM5?
Will they have a problem with my WM6-Black edition?
I think you should wait for official release of WM6 for your device, then flash it with it and then send your TyTn for repair. Of course you can revert back to WM5 to. I would't send the device with an unofficial OS on it because it would revoke your warranty
I agree with lajason. If you have to send it back before an official update, put it back to an official wm5 version.
Make sure you revert your Radio and SPL to an official release as well.
It is not just the OS they will check.
Does someone have experience with it? I mean, will they charge something when I dont have the right software levels?
I read mrvanx's guide to go back to wm6 - its not the easiest procedure! And I run on 1.38xxxx (whatever). So I guess I have to change back everything to levels I dont know which are the official ones!
Hi,
So i just got my MDA compact III (HTC Artemis) and I have noticed that people upgrade them to windows mobile 6.
Unfortunatley this is my first WM phone so I don't understand all these technical terms (ROM, Cooking, CID etc)
can anyone help me? is it worth upgrading? how do i back all my info up? what happens if it goes wrong?
thanks in advance.
COngrats on your new phone.
It is always worth it to upgrade to WM6.
There are 2 kinds of locks: CID and SIM.
SIM locks prevent you from using say a TMO phone on ATT.
CID unlocks prevent you from flashing a new ROM (like a wm6 distribution)
You can use some backup utility to well, back up. Search the forum for one.
If something goes wrong, you can just reflash the RUU, which stands for ROM Upgrade Utility. It has the "default" rom that you get from your new phone.
Thanks. This helped a lot.
Where do I get the WM6 distributions from? how do I install?
does the RUU come with the phone or do I download it from somewhere?
With all due respect to fzzyrn IT IS NOT ALWAYS WORTH UPGRADING!
Since this is your first WM phone and you just got it you should take a few weeks and get to know it.
There rule to follow here is: if it is not broken do not fix it!
WM 6 has only a few small new features (major one being HTML email support) which you may find you do not need.
First thing you need to do is to read the WiKi. You will find detailed explanation about terms like ROM, CID and SIM unlocking there.
Then if you are still determined to upgrade you should be aware of the following risks:
1) If you bought your phone through a cell company changing ROM even to an official version from HTC will void your warranty!
2) You must take care and read the instructions that come with the update you are using. Preforming update incorrectly, having battery run out or phone disconnected from your computer will result in a "bricked" (unusable) device!
3) Some WM 6 ROMs, change your device hardware ID. If you have purchased any programs that lock on to that ID during registration they will stop working.
Now for your phone there are two options:
1) Official update on HTC site (if I am not mistaking should be out already, but I am not sure)
2) "Cooked" or unofficial ROMs. Look for instructions in Artemis forum.
Keep in mind that ROMs are device specific. There is no such thing as generic / universal ROM.
Also keep in mind that various ROM versions including official WM 6 have different bugs. There is no answer to which is best or a guarantee that you like any of them better than your original WM 5 ROM.
Hello,
My brother messed up his P3300 by putting on a WM6 cooked rom before CID-unlocking.
Now we have a tricolor screen, and nothing else. Not even the original rom of WM5. Does anybody have it? or know how to get it?
Country is the Netherlands
IPL is 3.13.0001
SPL is 3.13.0000
thanks.
bye bye
Makje
I do have the original dutch version of WM6 from HTC, but I suppose you can download that yourself om www.htc.com. I guess this should also work?
Hi, thanks for your replay.
Well, i need the original wm5 first, because it doesn't recognise the wm6 original one from the htc-site. Tried that to. But come to think of it, it was an upgrade.
Right now, there's nothing on the device. Only the tricolour screen
thought i try the wm5 first to see if it works.
Hi i got the backup files from the originele Dutch T-Mobile rom WM5. the only thing you need to do is put it together again. you can use htcrt for it.
Hopefully is works for you!

PS ... the backup was also found on this forum.
PPS: try to flash it from SDcard
My Orange SPV M650 is also bricked, has somebody the org. WM5 Orange ROM, thanks in advance.
I do have a dutch WM6 T-mobile ROM and a dutch WM6 HTC rom. One of them may be possible to flash.....
Apart from that. How far did you come? What happens when you push the power button? Do you get to the bootloader?
When I see your IPL/SPL I think you forgot to use USPL before flashing another ROM. You can try to use that now and flash the ROM of your choice.....

Well, I took the rom for WM6 of the HTC site. Like a good girl
It went well until i got to the 3% and it stopped the whole proces. It just shut down. If I push the powerbutton you can see the tri colour screen and the rest is in my very first post. My brother did indeed forgot to use USPL. I know. so then he came to me. Afterwards. Smarty-pants. Now we have a bricked device.
This is what i already tried:
- I tried SD-flashing. Nothing happened. (followed the instructions on the wiki-xda-site)
- i tried to put on the wm6 version of the htc site...got the 3% bit, and that's it.
- i tried to put an alternate rom on it, from the uk-idunnowhich-provider...nothing happened. also tried it with a german provider and with the dutch t-mobile provider, also 3% and than nothing (i.e. tri-colour screen)
so now, all i can think of, is to go back to basics...and just start of with the original wm5 rom. Than use USPL and THAN upgrade it. *sigh*
So that's the whole story behind it.

thanks for your input though! i wouldn't have known all the same.
So, I own a K-jam G3 PPC which I wanted to upgrade from wm5 to wm6. I really didnt have much of an experience with this but I picked up a wizard for modifying the rom and it screwed everything up :S The process halted at 99% and now I am stuck in the tri color screen. I tried downloading wizard love but it keep telling me that its the wrong version for it, even though I have downloaded the one for G3 (the GUI is in some wierd language though, the readme is in english) Now I really need to restore the ppc to its original state or hopefuly get wm6 really really really soon because I am taking a course in windows mobile applications (I know ironic) and need it to try my applications.
Actually I have just fixed the problem, took me some time to figure out but nailed it thank god. Anyway, I still need to upgrade to wm6, but I have an arabic rom. Is it possible to still unlock the CID and upgrade to wm6 or I am going to brick it again? Mind that I dont mind losing the arabic support in my k-jam

Yes u can, flash back to your original ROM and CID unlock it. Then flash a WM6 ROM.
Well since no one seems to know. I have the HTC banded Excalibur with the Dodpod 6.1 WM rom. The Dopod WM5 rom doesn't exist anymore. I am going to flash it with the T-mobile WM5 rom on this site. Are there steps I need to take before doing this? If I do and it gets stuck at 3% for wrong factory will the phone then be bricked?

Thanks for the help.
But why flash to an older ROM?
We have great chefs cookin wm6.5 ported ROM´s!!
As long as you read and follow this guidelines you´ll be ok

Once you have the how, go to the proper section and choose a ROM!
There is no better ROM, that will depend on your personal needs, but believe me there are great ROM´s even better than the "official" ones...
Good luck,
Thanks and apreciate the response. But it has more to do with my first post of not being able to sync with PC. I was told that I need to revert the rom to the original. I have no idea what that is and since I can't use the SDA unlock app. I don't know if I don't unlock and it freezes when downgraded if I have an expensive brick on my hands.

I had issues syncing with my PC with WM 6.1. You can flash the original rom ( I used the original T-mobile rom) using the bootloader. With your phone off, hold the camera button and plug in ur USB then hit power button. the Tricolored bootloader screen should appear. You can flash your phone to the original rom from there. Once your phone is flashed, you might wanna think about flashing a WM 6.5 rom since the syncing problem is pretty much not an issue.
P.S. all of this can be found by reading through the threads.

is it not right here?
and to answer your question i believe that you would just need to flash an official dopod rom back onto it(using bootloader)...before proceeding with the reflash to the rom of your choice...the new 3vo rom is nice, by the way
