Completely silence my Excalibur? (turn off call initiation beep) - HTC Excalibur

Hi,
I'm trying to change my "Silent" profile to be completely silent. Turning off all ringers / changing to vibrate works except for the call initiation sound (the beep you hear when dialing a contact). How can I turn this off? Thanks in advance!
Specs: Flashed Dash to Excalibur / WM5

The 'beep' file is windows/callstart.wav if you would like to get rid of it. But I've never really cared to do anything about it.
*edit* won't let me delete it. probably need to replace it with a wilent second or so
*edit again* yep, you can replace it. if you did the silent startup/shutdown edit than just copy T-Mobile start up and rename it to Callstart

you can also use a registry editor to change this. look throught the other threads concerning that topic for more information.

^^^
where is this file located and how do i edit it to rid my self of the annoying. i rather not toy with the registry.

then use a program like total commander to replace it with a silent 'track' like the one used in silent startup/shutdown

Make this change to your registry:
Shut Off the Beep that Occurs When You Initiate a Call
Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\InCall2
Change String/Value InitVol to 0

possible error

This is incorrect, at least on my phone (WM6).
Here's what I had to do to mine:
Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\CallStart
Change String/Value InitVol to 0

i noticed, that my windows applications are silent with the silent profile. but some applications do sounds anyway.
can i avoid that?

need default sound for in call2
Can someone telll me how to get the default sound back for incall2? I deleted it when I was trying to get rid of the sound made when a call is initiated using the incorrect instructions previously posted. The one below works for me but I still need the other sound back. I believe it is related to the busy signal.

Thanks for that, I hate that beep and the setting for WM5 didn't work.

DELETE. Wrong spot. Thanks!

Hey everyone, sorry to dig this up, but I tried this registry edit shown above, and every time I turn my phone off, and back on, it comes back. Any way to permanently get this registry edit to stick? Thanks a ton! HATE THE BEEP! I have WM6... Thanks!

i don't know about wm6 but wm6.1 usually you can go to start/setting/sounds/ and scroll around to what sounds you don't want and turn them off.
also use the search forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480671 i came up with this and there's two or three posts about this. same kind of questions just three different posts.

I'm referring to the call initiation beep. It's a registry deal. Not a keypad thing. I dont care about numbers beeping, but every time you call someone, it beeps, regardless of what the volume or profile is set to. Please read the previous posts in this thread to understand a bit better.

Then change it....
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\CallStart
Change Value InitVol to 0

Right, Like I said, I've done that. It's the fact that when I have to soft reset my phone, IE turn it off for something like a meeting, and then I turn it back on, the beep comes back. Is this something I have to do every time I turn the phone off? Like I said in my original post, I've made that registry edit. But I want it to be permanent.

Phone Pad Vibrate

Edited an old cab to remove the version limits. It now works on Wm6.
Install and then dial a number from the standard phone dial pad to test! You should feel a short vibrate when you tap a number button letting you know that it's been tapped.
Add it to your CAB file collection.

What exactly does this do, with Phone Pad? Sounds interesting
It vibrates shortly each time, you press number in dial pad... or I guess, coz it did not work on my TyTN
but mayby is problem with some SPB products, because I have lot of them installed in my TyTN... e.g. phone suite, which can manipulate automatically with sound, vibration and light according to profile settings...
YUP! When you go to the dial screen and tap a number a small vibrate lets you know that a button has been pressed.
I'm also using bunches of SPB programs, but I still get the Vibrate from the standard dial screen.

It works on my Hermes but you have to long-press the key. Press for at least a half second to get the vibrate motor spinning.
Also, be sure to set either "short" or "long" tones in the phone options. It won't do anything if set to "none."
Hey thanks for converting to WM6 I had been missing it for awhile now!
Any chance this will work in WM5? Please and thanks.
Yeah this is soooooooooooo useful tip man, thanks a lot !!^^
Uninstall Issues...
I liked the idea, just didn't like the fact that you have to push the button for so long to get hte vibrate to react, just a fraction longer and it turns into a speed dial. So let's talk about the uninstall....
I unstalled the app, everything went normal. Now I have no keypadd tones at all.
hshortt, can you provide a fix or provide the registry keys that this install/uninstall modified?
EDIT: Nevermind, fixed on my own...
Works with the HTC Touch / Vouge. Just had to do a soft reset twice. For some reason after the first time, the touch screen stopped responding.
I'd like to know what you did to get your keyapd tones back, this program sucks!!!

guys i have tried the solution in the above link, it didnt work out.
if i exported the registry files from a non screwd device, and exported to my mine... will it work out?
This program is not very effective, cause when I tap out a phone number naturally I tap it quickly, and you have to hold for at least 300ms (I reckon) for it to even do a little vibrate.
it somehow needs to be much more sensitive, lower ms or something. Maybe its a limitation of the whole vibrate mechanism in the phone anyway.
Oh well.
Lost All Sounds
after installing i lost all sound output from my back speaker
no music, no ringtones, nothing
it only made my phone pad vibrate but screwed up all other sound output
tried to uninstall & still no fix
also hard reset & gflashing ROM again didnt fix
did it screw up my device completely !!!!!!!!!!
any fix please???
Vibrate dial pad
Thank you ! This is just what I was looking for
Sorry.Didn't find how to delete message
Hi pretty neat program, until I found a better one TouchResponse... This one allows you to even select the vibration time, and it vibrates on every tap on your touch screen. Well the problem is I un-installed Phone Pad Vibrate and now the the sound is gone when I press a phone number. The link for the fix isn't working, so how do I fix it so I can get the sound back???
Did the link for removal instructions get moved/removed for this?
The link from above is still broken. Anyone have instructions on how to remove this app?
could someone upload it on rapidshare, because i canĀ“t load it, thank you

Anyone able to get the connect beep to stay off?

I saw a registry edit for the beep whenever you hit the green talk button to turn it off and I remember doing it but for some reason when I reset the phone it doesn't stay...does anyone happen to know of a way to get it to go off?

The trick will be to find something in HKLM rather than HKCU. Typically, settings in HKLM stay through resets/profile changes/etc while HKCU is only based on that current session (it's Windows after all).
However, I just did a test (including a reboot) and will confirm that if you change the values in HKCU and you DO NOT change your profile (from normal to vibrate, silent, etc and then back), you can keep the beep off.
Here are the values that you will need to change to (open your favorite registry editor):
- HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\CallStart > InitVol (0)
- HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\InCall2 > InitVol (0)
With those two changes, your "beep" should go away as long as you do not change your profile. I have no, however, figured out a way to keep the beep across multiple profiles (then again, I haven't experimented enough).
i saw a cab posted some where to remove the beep but i forgot where i saw it
drop the attached callstart.wav into the windows directory of your device and allow it to replace the original. the only way ive ever been able to turn that most annoying beep off is to replace the original file with this blank .wav file. enjoy your nag free calling!

REGEDIT

I was wondering why the regs in a rom keep changing back to original settings
I use regedit to change things, but everytime i change the push mail to 1
after a couple hours it back at 0. so push mail is off again.
I thought that maybe theres a reg that keeps restoring the settings.
But with other settings it doesnt change back, like the wake up at sms.
Because i found a reg in HKEY/local_machine/RegPersisted and its set to 1
i dont know for sure if this has something to do with it, but i think that this whats keep turning back the reg settings.
I also found the same regkey in HKEY/current_user
Could someone explain this to me??before i turn it to 0 and mess things up
Thanks in advance
Are you by any chance using the keypad lock feature by long pressing the "end call" button? It seems to set some settings back to default. I'm not sure if this is the case, but you could try not using the keylock and see if the settings keep their user set value.

What's the problem? If you mess things up, just do a hard reset...
Give it a try, and let us know about the results

regedit
i changed the regkey for the persisted reg to 0 but no effect. after couple of hours when i check its back to 1.
same for the push mail, its back at 0.
How the f*#k can i keep the settings i make.
i find it so strange that that reghack for the sms wakeup event is good , but every otherthing i change keeps going back to standard

phone keeps ringing

Well, When I get a msg or two in the same time, my phone does not stop playing the msg tone, its crazy, if I receive a msg I dont read it inmediatly and I get another one, my phone plays the same two in different time and It does not stop even if I read the msg right away..
Do you understand?
What's wrong with it???
Try a hard reset
Here how to:

Hope it helped,
Mine did the same thing, the solution...turn it on silent and vibrate. I never did find a fix for it. You must be running kavana 6.1.

That just happen to me when I put a mp3 ringtone, when It's windows' default tones that does not happen... I was running kavana but now I'm running EVO WM6.5
Is there anyway to set a mp3 as msg tone properly????

If useing an .mp3 for message tone then you will have to edit it as WM devices play the whole tone on message...
How do I do that stylez???

With an Audio Editor a good free one Audacity so what you want to do is cut the sound down to a more reasonable time
Thanks... ah, I forgot to say that I kept repeting the tone many times, for me to stop that I had to turn the phone off...
It is probably due to Notifications from the AutoKeylock program that is installed by default.
Go to
Start-> All Programs -> Tools -> Auto Keylock
and uncheck Notifications.
This is basically a way to remind you repeatedly of any missed calls/messages/etc. If you like the idea of being notified, you can press the right soft-key for Options, and select Notifiications to configure them as you want.
Hope this helps

changing the default vibrate length

I have search for:
registry setting vibrate default
...with no luck
I don't want to change whether notifications use vibrate or not, but the length of the vibrate. Any notification that uses vibrate, has a LONNNGGG vibrate length on my ROM (I like the ROM, just not this feature). I'm looking for a reg edit to change it back to the normal 'buzz, buzz' type of vibrate, rather than one long buzzzzzz....
ps. I'm not wanting another cab to mess things up somewhere else, just hoping there's a registry setting somewhere that sets how long the vibrate is. It wasn't this long on other ROMs...

I'm not sure if you are going to be able to find anything other than a cab in regards to what you want. But, if you do end up with nothing involving the registry then you can try this out. It's pretty customizable as to what you can do with the vibration on your phone.
