So when moving from AKU 3.3 to vanilla 6, I noticed some of the original ring tones were missing. One example is "oldphone". I know some others are missing as well, but do not recall the specific names. I extracted my SPB backup made under AKU 3.3, but for some odd reason it did not contain that specific tone. Is it hiding somewhere? I cant figure out why it wasnt part of the backup (it seems all other tones are there). Is there some way to decompile the 3.3 (or prior WM5) roms in order to extract those legacy tones?
Thanks in advance for assistance.

Can you tell me if the guitar ringtone is in WM5? I know at one time I had an electric guitar sounding ringtone..

That sounds familiar - I think it's in 5, but it is not in 6 (at least not in the original vanilla 6). Perhaps some kind soul will make the old tones available to those of us that miss them.

I kept all ringtones from WM5. Tell me where to upload to - I'll do it tomorrow.
Best regards,
I'd like to get my hands on a few old ring tones as well.
If you email me the file, I will host it on my server for everyone to access.

Edit:- Roaring Guitar included amongst them!

Much appreciated!
So I'm curious, why did 'oldphone' come with my original HTC rom, yet crossbow was missing it? I would have figured it would be the other way around... Unless the 'vanilla' 6 was so stripped down that it lacked the additional rings...?
How are you liking that Black edition, BOZ? I'm planning to switch over just as soon as I can figure out a proper way to backup / restore my call history (so I don't lose them during the switch).
Thanks again.

All the WM6 roms are cooked bare bones roms and they are put together by the developers on here, so they choose which ringtones etc are on the roms, they pick only a few on the assumption that people will have their own to add anyway, and every bit of space saved is valuable. HTC use a fixed list and apply them to every WM5 rom, so it is easy for them to appeal to the masses.
I am very pleased with this rom and it runs perfectly with no problems whatsoever after applying all fixes and patches, it is much faster than WM5. I really notice when switching between applications, TomTom 6 which I use a lot is very fast now, do not forget that I have also upgraded the radio for a much improved reception with the phone.

Thanks for posting this! I meant to copy all of the ringers off of my device before upgrading the ROM. However, after I did a backup, made sure all the documents I needed had been synchronized with my computer (so I'd have them in at least two places), and got everything else ready I never even got the feeling like I was forgetting something...not until I went to change my ringtone...
Thank again!
Thanks for the WM5 tones. I was thinking of downgrading to get a copy of the tones. You saved me couple of hours

So, I just upgraded my 8525 to WM6 Black. Anyway, I noticed that it deleted all my text messages. No big deal, but I was wondering if there was a way to recover them. If not, is there a way to back them up in the future?
Read the Black 2.5 thread. In the Black ROM you may find an SMS backup tool.
If not, I am sure one is available, since the old Black ROM had it.
All your text messages are gone. I believe you can use PIM back up in the future . I have never used it myself but that is what the program is suppose to be for.
Here is the program if you don't already have it.

Yeah, PIM backup - under messages - in the new ROM. Thanks Lurch.
Yes, I've finally gotten around to looking into this whole cab making malarkey and while this is an existing one customised to fit my needs, it's a good learning curve
It's the palm threaded SMS app and it just plain rocks - really
So anyway, I've tested this on WM6 (Black 4) and it really works. Everything is already set up in this for using with T-Mobile and MMS works too! It integrates nicely with the HTC homescreen and includes a custom alert tone (hope you like it! )
Just to make sure the install goes OK, please use the task manager to stop the messaging \ poutlook \ tmail processes before you run the cab as I believe this could cause problems.
You will lose your existing SMS and MMS messages in the standard messaging app so if you want to keep them, use PIMBackup first
It's a fantastic app and I recommend giving it ago and if you're on T-Mob, I've just made it a little easier for you
Cheers,
Smiffy.

Any screen shots of threaded SMS? Also if i uninstall your cab, does everything go back to normal?
Thanks

Good point! Nice work on the cab Lord but some reassurance would be fantastic
Service provider?
Have installed it and its quality. I can't send mms though. In the settings its set to cingular. I've got the tmob settings bar the centre number any ideas?
screen shot
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/10/18/treo-750v-threaded-sms-mms-app-hacked-for-all/
looks like that
I'm looking at it now - I did test it on mine first but I think it probably kept the registry settings when I uninstalled it and re-installed it.
As for uninstalling...on my T-Mobile UK MDA Vario II, it uninstalled perfectly and everything reverted to the standard messaging app...BUT, as with anything like this, please don't just take the poster's word for it - use PIMBackup and and back it all up first!! It will most likely work OK, but...sh*t happens ;-)
Smiffy.
Thanks man. Your word is always good enough
OK, there were 2 places in the registry where the MMS settings were stored and I only changed 1 but it's sorted now (tested 3 times ;-)
And no, my word isn't good enough ;-) Back it up!! :-D
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Fixed and fantastic
Think this will quite possibly be the first cab i'll install after future flashes. Intelligent fuctionality.
Cheers Lordsmiff nice work
Forgot to say that when i uninstalled first version my old sms and mms were still there. When i reinstalled the new ones reappeared. Like lordsmiff says back up just in case but it didnt completely remove messages only temporarily when using the app.
You're right, it doesn't remove the old messages, it just uses a different message store but, at the risk of repeating myself ;-) back it up anyway
Which reminds me - if you want to reflash your device and then get all your threaded SMS messages back, you need to backup a file in the Windows folder called "PalmMsgV001" and also a folder in Windows called "MMS"
The file has all the text messages and stuff in and the folder has all the images etc from MMS messages in (I found that out the hard way )
Copy those two to your storage card and then back after a reflash to have everything back in threads
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Moved to rapidshare at mod's request
Anyone have any ideas where better to put it as I know some people (myself included) can't get them during working hours...damn those proxys
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Is it possible to install this threaded sms cab then alter the network settings by installing one of the available operator cabs or does the setting need to be entered manually?
Thanks.
i havent looked at lordsmiff's version... but if its anything like the ones i posted there is a possible issue of mms not working if you enter the settings manually... but his could be different...
There's not much chance of it being too different - it's based on your cab
If you want me to mod it for your provider, I can do that for you
Just PM me the connection details and I'll see what I can do
Cheers,
Smiffy.
i had another thought if you wanted to run with the idea.. i go back to work today so my time is going to be limited again.
The original version where based on the sprint connections, when i extracted all the files from the cingular treo rom and dumped the registry i compared them, i noticed all the reg settings were pretty much the same except for 2 lines and of course all the provider settings. But im thinking that if we left out the hard coded provider settings and allow the user to enter them manually that this may stop the "sometimes" apparent connection issues with MMS. So basically have a generic threaded cab with no provider settings hard coded at all... and if someone wanted to feel ambitious enough they could make cabs with just the hard coded reg settings for different providers (not the whole app)..
Hi!
Sounds great! Can it also be used for a other provider ? If yes; how do I know my settings ?
Does it show a alerts and integrates it good in the HTC Home Screen ?

I really love this app and would like to go back to it. MMS has always worked for me when using shogunmarks version but I think its limited to 300k.
Since your offering lord would you make one for AT&T?
I linked the settings I would have just posted them here but didn't want to miss something so I linked the main page for you.

One thing everyone should know when using this app is if you use any kind of app that closes programs like HTC Task Manager for example you need to add the Palm Threaded app to the exclusive list so it does NOT close when pressing x.
What happens a lot of times is most people write their txt msg and just click the x but with the threaded you have to wait until the msg is actually sent.
So the app should be running most of the time..
Hi,
What about the new sms notify; does it show an alerts and integrates it good in the HTC Home Screen ?

Hi all,
I have added many programs and settings and such to my Artemis.
It happened a few times to me that I needed to Hard reset after a faulty installation or such...
I would like to know if there is a possibility now that I ahve all programs I need and configuration... to somehow create my own ROM out of my current configuration so that in case of future trouble I can just reload ROM instead of flashing with ROM and reinstalling everything over (about a 2 hours job if I remember everything )
Please let me know...
Thanks
Use the Software "Sprite Backup".
It doesn't give you a complete ROM, but a Backup.exe with ALL your Settings & Programs.
So you just have to:
- flash ROM again
- click the Backup.exe
After that, the Device will be exactly configured like it was, when u created the .exe

you said in your prev quote; that it backs up settings & programs. everytime i reflash say from vanilla to touch, i have to reinstall my programs. with this program, it sounds like that isnt the case?
I was wondering....!
If i backup with Sprite using a ROM and then flash an other ROM,not the same as before will it fully restore my programs?
YOUR ROM HAS TO STAY THE SAME!
cause every ROM has different settings n' stuff.
really, I also want to know how...
actually, is there any tools like a Symantec Ghost which is popular in desktop computer, which can make a image for the whole driver C, so that when I need restore my driver c, just use this image.
any tools have this function?
Sprite backup gives you the option to restore after a rom upgrade, it also allows you to restore to a new device. I have personally used it to restore after changing from Tom's B&B to Meschele vanilla 4.01 and it seemed to work pretty well except for a lost media player skin and maybe a speed issue. Try it for yourselves. I will be doing it the long way around when Tom's latest rom is out of it's beta stage. For a quick backup I found SPB easier to use, resco is also well recommended but I have not tried it myself.
Export+import Wireless Networks configuration
Hi,
I have set up several Wireless Networks Access points (with passwords) and I do not have the passwords written somewhere anymore.
Does anyone know how to export Wireless Networks configuration before hard reset and then import these exported Wireless Networks configuration back to my device after the hard reset ?
The solution for me
For me, SPB Clone is perfect.
If you stay with the same ROM (required for proper results) , SPB Clone is the perfect piece of software!
Read all about it overhere
I have used it a couple of times for restoring. It works deliciously
Important: Flash your phone back to the OS-version which you had during making the Cloning-Image
(I am sure there is a Trial for you to use. I don't know the limitations of the trial, I have used the full version of a friend of mine)

You're right. It'll cost about €300....... Thats why I am happy to have a friend with this software
I went there because other pieces of software didn't work on my Artemis.
SPB Backup for example won't start up at all. I'am still looking for a good freeware program or one for little money who does it all.
So if anyone has suggestions ? Please let me know by replying on this Thread
(I don't want to use my friends software over and over....)
How the f*** do they come up with $300? I think it's intended for corporations to clone hardware, we none of us recomend warez, but in that case who is ripping off who?
Totally agree

It's usefull for corporations who have a lot of the same (PDA- / MDA-)devices and like to have the same config on every device (IT, Surveying groups, Government, etc)
Same as other pieces of software (like MS Of**ce, Au**CAD), there is a business need, so they raise the pricetag.
They make it impossible for us normal consumers to profit from their great software . It is a neverending story.....
So, I and we are still looking for a good alternative. Who has a good suggestion, without getting ripped off?
does anyone know where the settings for TF3D are stored? as in, which contacts are displayed, which programs, cities etc...
i tried to backup my registry changes before flashing again thinking that would capture this info, but apparently not.. sure would save time on a re-flash if we knew
I would like to be able to tweak fonts in Manilla, e.g. white to black on the Home Screen of 3DTF. Is that possible?
well i don't know about that... i think that's quite a different issue than the question i'm asking? anyone? sure would be nice to be able to automate the setup of TF3D after a flash..
well, this is all i can find in the registry for the TF3D settings:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila]
the stuff under that controls the wallpaper, and the cities in the weather tab
this location is where you can backup what programs are listed under your programs tab:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher]
but i still can't find where its storing which photo contacts are listed under the contacts tab... anybody?
also.. sometimes the wallpaper doesn't set although i have this key.. am i missing something?
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila]
"CachedBackgroundPath"="\\Internal Storage\\Content\\Wallpaper\\stripes1.png"
"HomeBackgroundPath"="\\Internal Storage\\Content\\Wallpaper\\stripes1.png"
just use spb backup 2, i just flashed a new rom & restored all that stuff including call logs etc.
doesn't that restore your entire registry though? which would sort of negate the purpose of flashing a ROM that the chef has pre-tweaked in the registry
I assume that the contacts displayed in TF3D are stored in a database file, probably in the windows folder. I've looked through pretty much everywere in the registry without success.
yeah me too.. the question is, what database file haha.. this is one of the most annoying things to restore on TF3D after a flash

im assuming its in the ********_manilla files in the \Windows Folder, best of adding a new contact, then sorting the windows folder by modified date in Resco Explorer or something like that.
thanks walshieau.. tried it, but none of those files seem to be changing as far as resco explorer is concerned. in fact, i added contacts a couple of times and don't see which one is changing.
i wanted to export the whole folder to my desktop and then add contacts and export again and use a file comparison software to see the diff, but too many files were protected and stuff so it was so tedious... if anyone figures this out, let me know.. i'm stumped.

i actually just tried backup2 for kicks, but it keeps hanging in the restore phase even though i'm on ROM upgrade mode.. zzz
**update**
apparently that was just a problem with PDAviet ROM that i was trying last night. Restore worked fine on TLR 2.. got all my contacts back and everything. a little scary though since i have no idea what registry entries its restoring, so it could possibly be undoing some tweaks to a new ROM?
it *appears* to me that the photo contacts in TF3D are being stored in the "pim" file under my device. Seems to change in size every time i add one. but am i able to simply copy this file back after a ROM upgrade? seems like i remember something about not being able to do that..
