Upgraded to WM6 - now looking for WM5 tones - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

(posted here because I suspect this is where I will find someone else sharing my goal)
So when moving from AKU 3.3 to vanilla 6, I noticed some of the original ring tones were missing. One example is "oldphone". I know some others are missing as well, but do not recall the specific names. I extracted my SPB backup made under AKU 3.3, but for some odd reason it did not contain that specific tone. Is it hiding somewhere? I cant figure out why it wasnt part of the backup (it seems all other tones are there). Is there some way to decompile the 3.3 (or prior WM5) roms in order to extract those legacy tones?
Thanks in advance for assistance.
Al

Can you tell me if the guitar ringtone is in WM5? I know at one time I had an electric guitar sounding ringtone..

That sounds familiar - I think it's in 5, but it is not in 6 (at least not in the original vanilla 6). Perhaps some kind soul will make the old tones available to those of us that miss them.

I kept all ringtones from WM5. Tell me where to upload to - I'll do it tomorrow.
Best regards,

I'd like to get my hands on a few old ring tones as well.
If you email me the file, I will host it on my server for everyone to access.

Here you go, all ringtones, alarm tones etc for WM6, the 'old phone' is included with them in the Crossbow sounds folder, have fun!
Edit:- Roaring Guitar included amongst them!

Much appreciated!
So I'm curious, why did 'oldphone' come with my original HTC rom, yet crossbow was missing it? I would have figured it would be the other way around... Unless the 'vanilla' 6 was so stripped down that it lacked the additional rings...?
How are you liking that Black edition, BOZ? I'm planning to switch over just as soon as I can figure out a proper way to backup / restore my call history (so I don't lose them during the switch).
Thanks again.

All the WM6 roms are cooked bare bones roms and they are put together by the developers on here, so they choose which ringtones etc are on the roms, they pick only a few on the assumption that people will have their own to add anyway, and every bit of space saved is valuable. HTC use a fixed list and apply them to every WM5 rom, so it is easy for them to appeal to the masses.
I am very pleased with this rom and it runs perfectly with no problems whatsoever after applying all fixes and patches, it is much faster than WM5. I really notice when switching between applications, TomTom 6 which I use a lot is very fast now, do not forget that I have also upgraded the radio for a much improved reception with the phone.

Thanks for posting this! I meant to copy all of the ringers off of my device before upgrading the ROM. However, after I did a backup, made sure all the documents I needed had been synchronized with my computer (so I'd have them in at least two places), and got everything else ready I never even got the feeling like I was forgetting something...not until I went to change my ringtone...
Thank again!

Thanks for the WM5 tones. I was thinking of downgrading to get a copy of the tones. You saved me couple of hours

4) Removed Cyberon

Awesome rom
Stable and all included
Nice work
I cannot unlock Ext flash with this rom, it was accesable on Dutty's rom
Hi Chamelion any possibility to put a link for this rom, in another friendly site like megaupload, I also don't like rapidshare at all. Thanks
So far great ROM..
Thanks for not including cyberon vc it makes it much easier to get ms vc going.
Everything else seems to work just fine, but voice dialling ain't working (Error opening the short cut). This same happened with lvsw's version (and with Black 3.0).
How do I fix this?
[edit]
Never mind, just installed Cyberion Voice Dialer.cab

got an even friendlier site called zimuhost.getmyip.com
there's a high speed HTTP mirror posted in the forum that the original posters link links to. i'm anti rapidshare, hence me starting up the file hosting thing!
I found another problem, that I never had before When I change anything via control panel Today, then nothing really happend, only after SR.This is odd, because if I want to use SPB products, then I must SR device each time, I make any changes. Till now I did not read or search on forum about this problem (or if somebody actually have same problem as I), I going to flash device again only if problem did not dissapear, then I start looking for answers.
PS: with original LVSW last version this problem was not.
/update\
now I find some posts about this prob here till now, no sollution.
For those of you who want ms vc over headset.
Its probably best to not have the headset paired so unpair it and just add it after all the steps.
1.) Install MS VC 1.6
2.) Install attached .cab
3.) In programs launch BT Voice Command Config
4.) Check enable
5.) Click save
6.) Click Exit
7.) Turn off phone
8.) Turn on phone
9.) Pair bt headset
I take no credit for this program it was done by XCSdM and later modified by ZaJules..
This works perfect for me no other tricks or reg edits zilch, nada, nothing. You might want to set voice command to button 5 though.
Is the x-button works like it should with elf version? I mean does the exclusive click working & what build is in this ROM version? thanks in advance
today not refreshing only after SR
For those who have problem with Today settings, this is reply and solution from LegolasTheElf copied from his forum - thank you
"It's looking like that today screen issue is caused by the X-Button. To remove it, go to the Remove Programs settings applet and remove it. Because of the way this ROM is built, you can remove my additions I'm actually going to be building my ROM's in a different way than anyone else--by using mostly CABs to do the customization rather than imbedding into the ROM itself. IMHO, this is a better design as it allows people to customize their device, and reclaim storage space if they don't like the items I've included in the ROM "

Well, I WAS going to wait for a newer 1774x rom, but, given the fact that this ROM is working so well, I see no reason not to continue to use 17913 to cook my ROM..
So, hang tight for some new Elfishness in the coming days

can someone extract VC 1.6 from faria's rom?

so faria's rom is the only rom that has a working ver of voice command 1.6 ..meaning his is the only ver that will announce incoming calls.. i myself HATE voice command but my buddy wants it.. i loaded his phone w/ schaps rom and he wants voice command to announce the caller name.. would anyone be kind enough to extract the ver from faria's rom. thank you
Can be extracted from here.

...k first off not what i was asking for.. 2nd thats the OLD build.. the one in farias new rom is a newer build.. 3rd if u try and say im asking for warez you my dear sir are slightly L.D. considering VC is built into WM6 roms..
and if you 2 took enough time to look thru the forum u would see there are numerous links to voice command 1.6 cab files posted in various custom rom threads.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1301496&postcount=2 being the example.... so b4 u open your mouth try and know what your talking about k thanks
i agree jason. what benefits are in the new build.
lol its jacob... and the new build allows the annoucement of "incoming caller" like it will say call from jacob on mobile phone.. and so on.. ALL previous builds mine the one in faria's rom WILL NOT announce on the hermes/tytn device.. there have been tons of threads on different boards complaning about this but faria's build seems to have "fixed" the problem.
yeah i tried farias rom i guess it was just me because i still had to use ms vc fixes. that is really good news if a new build is available. i would be willing to pay faria for this new build if it does indeed work as you suggest.
I have tried to obtain this also but every time there is someone with a negative attitude assuming we are asking for or intend to pirate this application when they know for a fact that the newer build in faria,s rom is not even available to the public!
It's not farias ROM that makes this work. It's the VC version. What I did was loaded faria, copied the VC files (the exe and the system file). Now I own VC so I install my copy onto any ROM, then I load the 2 files from faria. voila, it works.

Are you sure that the announcement works on the loud speaker and not only on Bluetooth?
As far as I know the loudspeaker caller announcement issue is not yet resolved, or am I mistaken (hopefully!!).
I have the older 1.6 Build and it does not work on PDA's with WM6 and Samsung CPUs.

The faria one worked thru loudspeaker for me. It even worked when I was on the headset in a call. I was not able to get the correct fix to make it work perfect but I loved the fact it would announce everything thru the speaker at the least.

So, because a piece of software is bundled with a piece of hardware when it is sold it is okay to extract it and make it available to everyone? That's like saying, hey you got that new pc with office included, can you extract that and make it available because I've got a pc also. Grow up!
I second the request. Also, if posting the unreleased version of Voice Command would be illegal, wouldn't posting Faria's Rom be illegal, too?
FYI, I actually have bought a legit copy of MS VC, which of course does not work with my Tytn. Everything I am asking is that somebody that has installed the Faria Rom to post here the relevant files, for sparing us the trouble of installing the ROM, copying the files and than reinstalling our favourite ROM and applications (I have 20+ programs and it will take me half a day or so to reinstall them and I do not have that time available).
Or, at least, since people may be reluctant to post it on the forum, could somebody please PM me the files (I have bought a legit copy of MSVC 1.6, which of course does not work on my Tytn, despite claims that it should. When I contacted MS, they told me that they are aware of the issue, but they will release a patch sometimes at the end of the year, maybe, but no money back. Great :-( ).
VC 1.6 (17913) works on WM6 LVSW!!
I have installed VC 1.6 Build 1.60.4622.0 on the latest LVSW, then downloaded Faria's WM6, expanded it (using imgfs) then replaced the following files:
1- voicecmd.exe 369kb(4622), 136kb(17913)
2- VoiceCmdRes_PPC.dll 75kb(4622), 86kb(17913)
3- VoiceCommand_PPC.cpl 38kb(4622), 33kb(17913)
4- VoiceCommandWMP.dll 28kb(4622), 12kb(17913)
with their namesakes, after renaming the originals, and now I have announcements over the loud speaker working and version 1.6.17913, I did not try any other function "yet".
From the variance in file sizes, this is either a specific build or some functionality may have been moved to other files in the package. Hence, it may not be enough to copy the above 4 files only; to get all functionality working.
p.s. If I only copy the fist two files, announcements work but I lose the ring tune!!, I guess the cpl to get the version.

@zmanuel - why doesn't your legit 1.6 work with your Tytn? Mine does when I use Jules' cab to enable BT activation. With this build nothing I do gets the VC BT enable to work... (I just reflashed this version to test,as my version is slightly different)

Unclear how to install this one. Build_copy.txt has instructions where to copy files from certain folders from the zip archive, but zip archive you uploaded does not have any folder structure, so its just a bunch of files, i can only guess which files to copy...
Code:
a. Copy \Bin\*.* to \Windows
b. Copy \Media\Canned text\*.* to \Program Files\SoftBankMail
c. Copy \Media\Pictures\*.* to \My Documents\My Pictures
d. Copy \Media\Sounds\*.* to \My Documents\

it's a package for cooking, not for installing as it is. i am sure someone can make a cab out of it. i did not write Build_copy.txt. it was included in the diamond dumped package from the beginning.
there is one thing i don't understand yet. s!mail is integrated as sms in diamond, not as email. i haven't found which part of the dumped rom does the job. so, if you cook it in your rom, it is regarded as an email account...
For cooking? I thought someone made this for testing on other devices, before real cab is made. Maybe we should ask someone with X04HT (or X05HT?) what files are in these folders mentioned in Build_copy.txt in order to make cab. On the other hand, there is one or two xml files in the ZIP, and from there one could get a clue where to put the files and what are required registry settings...
Other interesting stuff, this seems to be Arcsoft MMS client modified for SoftBank... Would like to try this on english ROM as soon as i find some time. Also, i plan to get X05HT soon, wondering if they packed the same thing there as well.

1) no. Emoji seems to be supported by an extention program, which i have not found yet.
2) yes, but opensoftbank connection will be used.
3) i don't know. what i am trying to do is making a hermes rom like opal. i simply want to share my findings with other qvga device users.
by the way, i found it will insert sms/s!mail options in dialpad, which could mess up your dialpad menu unless you use appropriate dialpad...

Yeah, but that sending MMS to a phone number is a big deal, for me at least. Almost everyone I know using Softbank uses MMS-by-number and as things are now it is a hassle to reply to them.
Just to let people know that the Softbank mail setup under Arcsoft blows mmslite out of the water (and absolutely murders the old Softbank mail app). I too am therefore hoping that a cab will be released soon..... looking forward to trying it on my x05ht as well, with an English rom. Now, only if the emoji problem could be solved...
To Zgembo: Only advantage of X05ht over the x01ht is the screen resolution. As it is the stock Softbank rom generally sucks; it just seems a lot slower than the old x01ht, although it can be tweaked a little (not much though). Really, this is more due to crippled drivers it seems; so blame it on htc. See here before deciding whether to upgrade. Note: the Diamond and Touch Pro HD also suffer from the same problems.

yep, that was one of mmslite's weaknesses. I also hated having to copy the senders number from mmslite and then paste into the sms app to send a reply..... :-(

I was reading about X05HT's stock ROM crappyness, but who would like to stick to stock ROM anyway? Yeah, but there are no graphics drivers for it, so it is more like using windows in safe mode. Does not matter which rom you use. Who knows if this will ever be fixed or not? (I am pissed off, because even flashed roms are slower than my Hermes was; GPS doesn't lock properly, music skips, etc).

Really, this is more due to crippled drivers it seems; so blame it on htc. See here before deciding whether to upgrade. Note: the Diamond and Touch Pro HD also suffer from the same problems.

you cannot install "this" package on any vga devices since i changed the resolution of all the images. just use the same package retrieved from x04ht/x05ht. for english roms, just make *.0409.mui's for the apps. shouldn't be much difficult since i have been making tons of *.0411.mui's to make full-japanese wm6.1 roms for my x01ht and polaris.
as for emoji, this "app" supports it on x04ht/x05ht. this "package" does not since the emoji function is supported by something else than the package.
I look forward to updates on this thread...
In the meantime, for those who want to send MMS by a softbank number there is an easier way to do it. Save the message you are writing into the Drafts folder, navigate to the folder, then move the message to the Outbox. It will send automatically (at least does on build 303 JP).
If anyone is skilled in writing mortscript it could be convenient here

Cool workaround. Worked for me, but is still a pain in the ass and shouldn't be necessary in a perfect world. Still, cool workaround.

Hey there,
I got a softbank X05HT from Japan, had to unlock it so it would work in Australia, HardSPL'd it, flashed a new ROM now I was looking for the Softbank ROM again so my girlfriend can use Japanese on it - can anyone direct me to the standard ROM for Softbank please?
EDIT: Actually, I'f prefer it to be in English so I can try to fix it when it has a cow from time to time... but she has many friends back home she's more inclined to keep in touch with... I've got NTAF's ROM and installed the Jap cab... but too hard to work it... probably rather have original ROM and add and English cab to it.. ta

Who's running WinMo 6.5?

I've recently upgraded to the standard Vodafone 6.5 rom, and so far I'm rather happy with it...
Found SBP Pocket Plus doesn't work well, but as all I was after was the ability to edit file extensions now use Total Commander/Resco File Explorer.
What I would love to be able to do is alter the short-cut links on the lower scrolling links bar... any ideas?
But, in general, I'm not rushing to change many things as I'm finding it rather good as is.
What are other's thoughts - and ideas on additions to improve it?

I have a Vodafone branded TP2 and I was hoping to upgrade to 6.5 Rom. can you kindly point me in the right direction to do this ( i am quite new to these things and dont wanna ruin my phone)... thanks..
Also if i do not like the 6.5 upgrade can i go back to 6.1 stock rom i am on now?
Download the uopdate here:
http://devicehelp.vodafone.co.uk/firmwaredevice.php?ModelID=384&e=0
The list 'previous version' too, so I guess you can go back...
Been using it for quite some time. Its a good rom. A couple of minor bugs here and there. One that a couple of people have observed is every now and then a new txt will arrive and the device will act like it will never stop vibrating. The last time it happened to me, it actually stopped after a couple of minutes (I wanted to see how long it would take).
As for editing the scrolling links at the bottom...do you mean adding new tabs to TF3D? It is simple to remove them, but adding new ones I'm not so sure about...
Jason
Yep, I did meant TF3D Tabs - I know how to remove from the list, but was hoping there was a reg edit or two to replace/add new ones...
Keep hoping someone will come up with a solution...

Thanks for that! will give it a try...... I hope its not as bastardized as the 6.1.. "vodafonism" if u ask me.......
Please do I have to run Hard SPL before I run this upgrade? been reading the Hard SPL tutorials and it seems I need to have it to flash other ROMS or return to my Vodafone stock rom if i am not happy with the upgrade.

[ROM] 2-4-10 WM 6.5.5 Build 24001 (MetroPCS) for Vogue by egzthunder1

Hi Guys and Gals,
Here is my newest ROM...
This is rather experimental since no one really knows what M$ did new in this new branch...
COME and GET IT
Change Log
First Revision...
*MetroPCS as default carrier. I was going to make it generic, but I cannot find my Generic module anymore
*Office Beta 2010 (latest)
*Windows Live 10.7.0061.0500.2000
*MSL Grabber
*Adobe Reader 2.5
*CleanRAM 1.9.3
*M2DC
*Chome Editor
*PHM Regedit
*RSS Hub
*Slide2Shutdown
*New Version of Opera 10 Beta
*M2D Citi Weather Editor
*Total Commander
*Removed Widgets
I have added NetCF3.5 in the UC Folder because it did not come as part of the SYS for some reason. Also, as always M2D is in the UC for those who simply don't want it.
[highlight]Note: As per Barogi's post, NetCF is already cooked in the rom by default. So, after unpacking my .rar, go into the UC folder and delete the NETCF3.5 cab. Thanks for pointing it out, Barogi![/highlight]
Note: After downloading, dump the XDA_UC folder to the root of the SD card and flash. Once it is done flashing, hard reset the device. Let it do its initial set up and soft reset. Upon second boot, a pop up will come up saying that it will install the apps in the UC folder. Click on OK and it will look like it isn't doing anything for about 10 minutes. Once it is done, it will say that it has finished and that you can reset if you want... do it!
CDMA Home Weather Fix attached
Instructions for Weather Fix:
Before installing the cab, select your weather in the M2D weather tab and update it to get the reading. Once you are done, install the cab and soft reset. All done

Hey just to let you know... the new PPCK now includes .netcf 3.5 into the builds so now theres not an option to have it cooked in, it just includes it anyway. What i had noticed with Build 24001 was that the messaging app was glitchy when going in and out of conversations, it might have just been my rom though.. other than that it was really quick.
can u post some screen-shots ? is it the same as all the other branches ?
Sorry, no screenshots this time. The UI is exactly the same, there is no change whatsoever as far as graphics. This is just a newer release. If I were to put Barogi's screenshots next to screenshots of this rom, you would not be able to tell the difference.

I guess that explains why I did not see it as an option in the kitchen anymore. I ended up including it since I have seen this issue being random, depending on what build I was using. For instance, I made a 23518 (which I never released) and that had it as an option in the kitchen... well, you get my point. Thanks for letting me know about this!
Bugs
*Dialer shows a scroll bar on the side... I have tried many dialers in my roms and all of them do that except the stock dialer. If anyone knows a fix, I am open to suggestions

We are (at least I think), using the same packages for M2D, with the same skins. I am thinking of re-posting the pics of my 28014 rom since they look exactly the same...

You are right about it. The theme is different (I can't remember what I put in mine though).
Glad to see you coming out with new releases. You might want to change the title of your post to 2/4/10.
"reply all"
Could you please cook a rom without the outlook enhancements which cause the "reply all" issue?

After downloading I do not see a XDA-UC folder. Was it supposed to be in the rar or what? Sorry this is the first rom ive downloaded with the UC Install.
Love the Rom for the most part. Fast, seems very stable. Question tho; is the opening book sequence hard coded into the Rom? It's great if your customizing the Rom for yourself, but I would prefer something more.....well let's just say different

The folder is there. You are probably just opening the file and extracting the files by themselves rather than extracting everything to a folder. If you have winrar, simply extract the whole archive and you will get a folder named BuildOS with everything in it (including the XDA_UC folder).

I'm sorry, but I don't think I understand what you are asking here. What is the "opening book sequence"? Also, what do you mean by "I would prefer something more.....well let's just say different"? Different in what sense? Do you want more apps? Less apps? Cooked in? Different customization method?
The reason why I cook my roms the way I do is because I have seen Chefs literally wiping out a crap load of variations of the same rom because they try to satisfy everyone's requests. I personally don't have the time to do such a thing, so I leave it to the end user to put whatever they want in their roms, with a few exceptions (I just do the cooking ). You will always see people asking for different browsers, different UIs, different versions of... well, everything. Unless I see a trend or a consensus to put something specific in the rom, I will likely not cook it in. That is simply my way of cooking ...

I am sooo sorry. I've had a small stroke, and my spelling/typing is not what it used to be: I meant boot, not book lol. And I was not asking for you to cook a custom rom: I know your a busy man: ( I was thinking yesterday you must be God, your everywhere on here lol). I was inquiring about the opening two screens, which are fine, just not what I would like to see. I boot my phone up once in the AM and then whenever it freezes or acts funky (which USUALLY occurs when I'm trying to show how awesome it is lol) and I would like something more professional looking. If the opening sequence is something I can hack without having to cook a rom I'd like to give it a go; if not, oh well. So far love love what you've done; phone is fast, has few lags, and seems super stable. So I'm not asking for you to cook a custom rom, just looking for info.

I see...
Well, I believe that you can disable the startup animation via Advanced Config. As far as the bootsplash, there are ways of changing it. The initial screen involves replacing a file in \Windows called "welcomehead.96.jpg" (I am talking about the FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU image )
The other two, I am not too sure where they are located, but I will try to make one with more "standard" boot screens... (I know mine aren't what someone would call "professional", but then again I do this for fun and coffee )
I will cook another one and post it (maybe later today).
BTW, you mentioned a few lags... Where exactly do you see these?
