Add more Items in Today manually - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Who knows how to add additional items in the today screen. I found the registry entry HKLM\Software\Today\Items
But I don't know what entries are needed and I would rather not have to install Resco, the point of this for me is to save space (and of course learn while doing).
Anyone???

Eh? Pretty much all today plugins come with installers.
Any particular reason for adding them manually?

I guess I worded that weird what I want to do is add shortcuts of the already installed apps to the today screen right now by default the only options are:
Date
Wireless
Owner Info
Messaging
Tasks
Calendar
DeviceLock
I would like to add some more items of my choice but wouldn't know what settings to put in the entries of the reg setting

use a third party launcher. claunch for example

Sliding Panel Help

Guys/Gals,
Newbie here. I'm trying to modify the sliding panel media homescreen.xml file. My question is more for the general xml programming. Is there a way to include a "plugin clsid" within a "plugin clsid"?
See the attached xml file. There's "CCustomPlugin" section where you can create your own panel. I'm using Good mobile messaging and i want to be able to add the Good mobile email and unread email plugin.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Actually, to add a new panel, you need to add a new dir(name of you choice) in your reg under chome. Under the new dir, copy all of the info from CWelcomeCenter panel into it. Then you can modify all the values(text, picture, url) to what ever you want. No need to change xml except since you have a list of plugins in there(cclock, chome, etc), you need to add it to the list. Once you created the dir, with copied info in it, you could use chome configurator to modify the values(easier).

Thanks Showaco. Does the method you described allow me to add a plugin as well? What i want to do is this. I want to add a panel with a program (exe file). This program also comes with a plugin clsid that shows my online status. So the end product would be an icon, the program name, and my online status. I think the method your prescribed only would allow me to add the program and the description of the program. But not the plugin clsid...
Showaco didn't understand what you're trying to do. Let me explain...
In the homescreen xml file you can ONLY have two plugins (in the sliding panels configuration). One being CHome and another being the 20 pixels at the top. The top plugin can be anything... 99% of the time it's the iconbar, of course. People like rinku have made different plugins that show different information up there, but.. you lose the iconbar. So, to wrape it up, you can replace the icon bar GUID in the XML with your plugin's GUID(and settings) and have it show up at the top. BUT, you lose the icon bar.. and that's a NO NO if you ask me
I gotcha now, I didn't know realtime data involved. The only way I know is to use testuiplugin panel, but it would only work if the info that you want to display is written somewhere in the registry. Does the email program write info to the reg already?
I understand. So you can't have another plugin within CHOME..that sucks and makes what I want to do harder.
What I'm using is Good Mobile Messaging. I assume this program already writes to the registy? It would be perfect if I can just replace the CCalendar with GoodCalendar and CMessaging with GoodEmail.

[upd. Nov 17, 2008] hgToday & hgAgenda: Fingerfriendly calendars

11/17/08: Version 0.31 of hgToday
Bugfix
Added hgColors 0.3 config file in zip archive. This makes it possible to change the font size of the list, and the height of the individual list items.
11/10/08: Version 0.3 of hgToday
Updated to work with the latest version of Christec's framework
Rewritten list control (loosely based on KListControl)
Removed buttons on top, menus included in popup menu, moving to next/previous day through finger movement.
New popup menu is now scrollable with finger.
New datepicker, more fingerfriendly.
Skinning with bitmaps has been removed in order to reduce memory usage.
Colors can still be changed.
9/11/08: Version 0.2
Added the program hgColors to make it possible to customize all colors.
Added the option of seeing all appointments and all tasks together.
Bugfix for the calendar dialog (got stuck on the screen sometimes).
9/5/08:
Added hgAgenda to the files below. This is the standalone full screen version of hgToday. It also has some more images for skinning.
Also added some more screenshots.
Earlier:
hgToday
This is a small fingerfriendly plugin I've put together for my todayscreen. I use it as one of my views in my Homescreen++ setup (prev. BatteryStatus). It can also be used as a regular today plugin.
hgToday will show you the current appointments and all tasks not completed with a due date on or before today, or with a start date on or before today (i.e. all tasks that should be worked on).
The list can be scrolled with a finger.
If doubleclicked, it will mark the item completed.
To view the task, hold the finger long enough for item to be selected and popupmenu to show, tapping view will take you to the default calendar/task application for editing and viewing.
Scroll left or right for next/previous day.
Skinning
This can be done with hgColors. Just click on the various items, choose save, and restart hgToday.
Both list height and item height can be changed.
Font size can also be changed, although if too large, the day will be mixed with the description.
The file hgColors must be in the same directory as hgToday or hgAgenda.
Future plans:
More fingerfriendly editing, entering new items.
Update hgAgenda to 0.3.
+??
To install hgAgenda:
Just unzip the files to any directory - can be used on a storage card too.
To install hgToday:
Must be installed to main memory.
1) Uninstall previous version of "ChrisTec Managed Today Screen Item Framework" and hgToday.
2) Unzip and install the "ChrisTec Managed Today Screen Item Framework" (see separate copyright notice).
3) Copy hgToday.dll to the same directory where the ChrisTec Framework is installed (normally "Program Files\Managed Today Screen Framework").
4) Go into settings, Today, Items: and make sure the "Managed Items" is checked.
Thanks to dosfan for his KListControl (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333124)
I don't take any responsibility for the problems this program might cause on your device, but it seems to work for me on a smartphone running Microsoft Mobile 6.
I value comments, but can't promise anything,.
Hope it can be useful for other people.
Great software calendar .. thank you veru much for this release
any "working" screenshot please ?
Im not able to get working on Sprint Touch 6.1. I had the HGplugin showing in the settings/home/items. I then closed out and went back in and its gone. I have tried to reinstall a few times with no luck.
Screenshots
I'm sorry, but I didn't know that you had to have a url to post a screenshot. Therefore the small bmp file.

Sorry about your problems.
Did you try going into the registry to see that the height is correct? Do you have other plugins? Can you run the file hgToday.exe directly? Can you try to put a checkmark in the today settings for Managed items?
It doesn't work. The item doesn't appear in settings/home/items. I tried to open the executable and I get an error: Null reference exception.

It seems my app was based on an early version of "ChrisTec Managed Today Screen Item Framework".
So I've attached that version in my first post. That should the program run. I have had it on my device for about a month now.
However, I probably should upgrade my app to take advantage of the newer version of the framework. The reason I didn't do that in the first place, was because it used an exe file that could be run by itself. The newer version requires a dll file.
It works good on my Kaiser - thanks.

It's quite similar to the gslide file explorer (we use the same list control), except hgToday doesn't have to be full screen.
I'm also hoping to release a non-plugin version later today.
Feedback: ))
the viewing options of all appointment and all tasks and so on are wonderful. also the option to change the height..
the scrolling thing is VERY important and useful..
the gray background is heavy on the eyes... i'd make it compatible with the tsk.. that is, transparent.
an option to view all appointments+all tasks is important in my eyes... for day to day use..
thank you so much.. i'm using your thing instead of Calendar+ now
Thanks!

The color scheme is based on the system colors, i.e. the list takes it's color from the active caption color. I'm planning skinning in a future version. As for now, in order to have a different background when there is no selection, you can add an image file called noselect.png (similar to the select.png file) and the program will show that for the list items, instead of the current background. However, the app will use a lot more resources that way. That's why I'd like to make some configuration file to store colors and other stuff.

With the way the program is written, that would not be possible. What can be done, is to have all the appointments first and then all the tasks, but I assume you mean you want it sorted by date. To accomplish that, I have to do a complete rewrite of the program.
Right now I am working on a settings app so that all colors can be easily configured by the user.

S2U2 by A_C, customized to work with our smartphones

I believe S2U2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412418) is an awesome application and it's a shame A_C isn't actively trying to make it work better with smartphones, as well. So, I decided to take the last version that still works okay (for us) and prepackage all the required settings to make it work right and look like the screenshots below.
You'll notice the weather icon at the bottom. It's updated from my miniweather application and the next release of miniweather (very soon) will have builtin support to update the weather information on S2U2's display. Keep in mind that this application has be launched manually in order to lock your phone, so it's best to use with SmartToolkit where you can assign a hotkey to launch s2u2.exe (I personally use the Spacebar with a 200ms delay).
Another way to launch is to reassign a different key, such as the tzones key, by editing the appropriate shortcut in the \windows directory, to launch s2u2.exe.
Anyway, enough blabber, here's the cab.... Please test and let me know how it works
seems to take high memory resource, so i have to kill the app after unlocking...anyway great works...
Yeah you're right... it takes about 6 megs the way I set it up. Which is a lot for an Excalibur, but not really an issue on my Blackjack with 128Mb of RAM, hehe.
Anyway, if you remove the wallpaper.gif from the gfx\ folder and maybe either use a static wallpaper or NO wallpaper, the memory usage should go down A LOT.

Haha yah well thanks for putting this together for us man...
Also if I would like to remove the weather from showing up how do I do that because I think that is eating a lot of memory too...
Also, sorry about all these questions but is there any way to have this autostart when you restart the phone, like have it autostart like a process?
You have to edit the registry to do that, but trust me, it doesnt eat up RAM at all. Anyway, go to HKCU\Software\A_C\S2u2\ and find ShowWeather and set it to 00. If you want it off the screen, just delete the "UserWeather" key.
How can we get this app to show weather for other user weather apps? lets say showaco's or outerdepth's weather apps? I have the ShowWeather key set to "5" and i have the UserWeather key as well, but theres no values in the UserWeather key and i dont see anything on my S2U2 screen with the weather on it
You talk to showaco or outderdepth and have them add one or two lines to their weather script, to update the "Userweather" key in the registry

well i see that there's a gfx/weather folder, but i don't see how or where it's linked in the s2u2 registry . i mean i see from your .cab that the user weather shows C|34|Fair 57F ...so your saying that since it says "Fair" it know what icon to use? and secondly i saw in your pics where it has your city "Las Vegas", yet i dont see that anywhere in the reg entries in the S2U2 keys....
Hmm I love the clean look. I just don't know if I want another screen to access my homescreen? I will have to do some more research on slide to unlock 2.
I kinda of want to read some feedback.

If your read the FAQ in the original S2U2 thread, you will understand how it works. "C" means "custom icons". The 34 is the file it will display "34.png" and Fair 57 is just... that.... Mine says Vegas because I'm in Vegas. I removed the Las Vegas wording from the cab, as it's irrelevant

Well it's more like a replacement lock screen for the usual lock screen of the smartphone. With this you just push the right directional key to unlock, instead of turning the phone one, pushing the unlock softkey and then the "*" key, which is a major PITA and it always annoyed me about smartphone. PLUS you get a cool info screen that you can look at without unlocking the phone!
its working great, i cant change any of the settings tho...
would it be possible to control the slide with the joggr?
nice have to check this out when i get the wife's blackjack II
this is great tht you took the time to get this to work in d dash. i have a question ,my appoinments are not showing, the weather icon is not updating and have no idea how to activate the locking and unlocking sound.
Guys, in order to set any of the settings you need to either get SOTI Pocket controller or MyMobiler. Or, edit the registry directly with the help of FAQ shown in the main application thread
yeah, i have mymobiler and follow all the proper procedure in faq but still not showing the updated weather icon or appoinments so on

Shortcuts on Settings tab

How can I change the shortcuts that appear on the TouchFlo 3D Settings tab?
Endless searching on xda-developers and I can't find it, except for hints that it's hidden in some Diamond cab files people have created.
I want to remove some infrequently used settings (eg. "Mail Setup") and add others (eg. Power).
I've seen threads on how to add/change the Programs shortcuts to do this, but not to change the actual Settings tab.
Thanks.
(Reposted from General Discussion Q&A forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550183&goto=newpost; realised this was a better forum as it may be Rhodium-/Manila-specific.)
Hmm you'd probably have to find the _manilla file that displays the settings tab and edit it. This may be a difficult task because there is a ton of _manilla files in the windows folder!
I have managed to remove Mail Setup by editing the registry
\HKCU\Software\Htc\Manila\
"IsShowEmailSetup" = 0
Thanks. Works nicely for that silly Email shortcut, but there are several others I'd like to kill (I really don't change my wallpaper, tabs, 'My Contact Card', or G-Sensor that much HTC!) and more I'd like to add in from the "All Settings" list.
It's a start though, appreciate the tweak.
i just decided to hide the settings tab altogether! totally a waste of space.
How did you hide the settings tab completely? I've been looking to try and do this. it is locked and not editable in my customize tabs. Also I've looked through the manila reg edit and still can't find a binary value that hides settings tab

is it possible to just do a reg edit of this. I hate installing programs I will only use for one purpose and uninstalling them.
in addition, to that ,advance config requires newer framenet which I don't want to install either. (also working off vista, which does not support activesync).
nevermind, I figured it out... but hiding the settings tab renders the whole thing unusable. I just wanted to hide the tab, but not hide the functionality (through start menu).
for those who want to know its as follows:
HKCU\software\htc\manila\
"Manila://settings.page.hidden" = 1

[REQ] Tasks on Sense 2.1/2.5 home tab?

I know custom tabs for Manila has been discussed many times before, including one for tasks. But my question is different - is there a way to add tasks on home tab? Like replacing the call history or calendar entries. That's the only thing I've always missed in Manila - seeing if I have any active/due tasks right after I unlock my screen.
None interested?!
I'm definitely interested! I have no idea how to do it but I would love to see it. I've thought about this many times.
Well, obviously it makes only two of us. It seems is either unwanted and/or impossible..
+1 pls.
Sorry I have no clue how to do this
Yup, +1 here, makes 4.......
I don't know of a possibility to add tasks, but you can use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=602221
You can place a today plugin, like TodayAgenda or some other Tasks app. to cover up for example the calendar part on the home screen. Or you can add it to the Operator tab.

This is actually pretty straight forward if you follow the steps correctly. This is the way I did it to put messaging on the home screen.
Install the 2D TodayPage cab
Stop TouchFlo (Start > Setting > Home > Items and unselect TouchFlo)
Soft reset (may not be necessary but better in my mind)
Run M2Dtp config from programs page
Press and hold the red area next to plugins lable
Select Tasks (or whichever you want)
Leave Window at Window_00
Set x=10 y=240 w=220 h=60
Choose M2D widget page (Home)
press apply
press menu
press OK
Start TouchFlo (Start > Setting > Home > Items and select TouchFlo)
Switch to another tab then back to home and it should be there.
NOTE: You may need to experiment with the X (Left) ,Y (Top),W (Width), and H (Height) but they should place your plugin right after the calendar
How about Sense2.5.1922
Yeah.. well, I am more interested in latest Manila 3D - Sense 2.1/2.5. Apologies for not specifying that. Adding it to the title.
I change the right soft-key of the Home tab in my Sense 2.1 to "Tasks"..
So, if I want to see my tasks, I just tap the right soft-key..
I would also really like to get Outlook Tasks incorporated into Sense!
As part of the 'home tab', the 'calendar tab' or as a separate 'tasks tab'; either, some or all are fine with me ;-)
It surprises me that Microsoft has downplayed Outlook Tasks in WinMo. In Outlook it is easily accessible and a really useful tool for 'appointments or To-Do's that are not strictly time-specific'. That at least is how I use tasks.
Therefore it is really annoying that you have to open a separate app (either MS' own or something like pTasks) to access them in WinMo.
To have Outlook Tasks show up in the calendar I have to use a full-blown program like Pocket Informant.
It's also strange to me that HTC has overlooked the incorporation of Outlook Tasks in their otherwise excellent Sense-UI!
I'm even surprised that the great programmers frequenting this fine forum seemingly does not think that Outlook Tasks is worth incorporating into Sense.
Apart from the ease of access that comes with incorporation into Sense it would also enhance the general 'user experience' to be able to access Outlook Tasks in the same UI that lets you access the other Outlook-functions like mail and calendar!
Hopefully someone will recognize this 'oversight' and remedy the situation soon ;o)
Does anybody know how to make Tasks beeing displayed on home tab? (the way appointments and other calendar entries are)
Shortcut to Tasks is not the way out - it would be perfect to have 'to do list' always on, under the clock

I agree to the best solution I found is installing pTask and make shortcut on the homescreen.
