SD Card limit - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Does anyone know the SD flash memory size limit? I can't find any definitive specification. I would like to confirm compatibility before purchasing.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Generally, any card that is not an SDHC card will work.
The biggest non-SDHC card I have seen is 4 gig. I've got a TopRAM 4 gig in my BA and it's working a treat.

Ive been using an adata 4gb sd card in my ba for nearly a year without much problems. I cant seem to record audio or video to the card but apart from that the programs stored on it and files work perfectly.
If you can you should try the cards out first, even 2 of the same brand and size may only have one that works in your device even though both cards are good.

SD Card Size Limits
I have had success with both 8GB and 16GB cards.
I have tried 32GB cards, but these have been not so useful.
I am using CM 6 nightly 295
HBOOT 0.33
Amon RA Recovery CM 2.1.1
I found that neither Clockwork MOD nor RA Recovery CM 2.1.1 would partition
the 32GB cards. RA CM 2.1.1 worked find for the 16GB card. A possibility is that my 32GB cards are bogus.
Cheers

[Q] my sd card is not working on my hd2 wp7 rom

im kind of a noob can someone please tell me how to use my sd card on hd2 wp7 rom
I don´t know if there is a solution for it´s normal that not every sd card is compatible with wp7. Unfortunatelly you have to try another one
same here. i tried with 1gb and 8gb. no luck for me.
wath kind of sd card have you tried
mine sandisk class2/2 gig and sandisk class2HC/16gig and sandisk class4/4gig
don't work for me ,i have the reboot problem
i now dath someone who have the kingston class 4/4gig works on WP7
List of compatible Micro-SD Cards
As it has been discussed in another thread, here are the list of SD cards that are working for HD7. I assume that the same should be applicable to HD2.

Sandisk Class 2 8GB (I bought it with my phone) and Sandisk Class 2 1GB (from a nokia 6131)...
I've tried SanDisk 2GB and pqi 2GB and no one worked I have tried to format them to FAT, FAT32 and NTFS - nothing helped.
Any thoughts?
have you tried to boot whitout a sd card , i heard that many peaple boot whitout sd card in it .
en it worktoo
when i do this i got also te reboot problem ,even as i do it with an sd card
is it posible that some HD2 don't work whit this rom or with magldr 1.12 in combination whit WP7 ?
I have tested 8GB SanDisk class6 and it doesn't work.
Tried 1GB Samsung card and it works but with some glitches. On the Phone in about screen I can see corectly how much free space i have, but when i'm connected to zune it says that my Phone is overfilled i can't send even 1 song to it. It simply can see only ised data space. not free.
Maybe someone had similar problem or knopw solution?

[Q] Have someone tried 32GB or SdCards with DHD?

So I think to invest in a very big SD Card 64 GB or even 128GB? As far as I remember it is said that the device supports SD cards with capacity up to 32GB. But if someone tried successfully running bigger SD cards, I will be happy to read positive experience.
I'm using a class 4 32gb card with no problems.
Sent from my Motorola Startac running Atari 2600 software!
I've been running a class 10 32 gb card for 8 months now. No problems at all.
I too have been running a 32GB card all of this year with no problems. There have been reports that a 64GB microSDXC (the DHD takes the microSDHC cards!) runs on some phones. See .... http://androidcommunity.com/sandisk...working-on-multiple-android-devices-20110927/ ...
I was under the impression that this wouldn't work BUT .... the 64GB cards aren't cheap at the moment so I'd need to be absolutely sure they worked. Seems hopeful as they do work on the Sensation.
Anyone got one to try on the DHD??
Dave
i'm using lexar fast 32gb hcsd no probs so far, transfer speed 10 megs p/s ,its much cheaper than famously branded ones
No problems with 32gig class 10. As far as I know that's as high as you can go with the DHD.
Sent from The App that Time Forgot.
No problems here with kingston class 4, 32 GB
I am using Adata microSD HC 32GB Class 4 without any problems at all.
I'm using a Sandisk 32Gb with no issues to report.
Are we using fat32?
It has size limits I'm sure.
32gb max i think but i did manage to get a 250gb hdd formatted to 120gb fat32 using a special program.

Am using a 32gb transcend card with no issues untill now.

I'm using a kingston class 4 32gb card with no problems.
I've been using Patriot Signature 32 GB Class 10 MicroSDHC since July and I've had no issues whatsoever.
Issue with MicroSDHC 32 G. Not seen by HTC desire HD with Rom ViperDHD v2.2.0
Hi everybody,
I rooted my HTC Desire HD and flashed with ViperDHD 2.2.0 with Android 4.0.4 and HTC sense 4.1
When I tried to change my old MicroSD 2 Giga with a Lexar MicroSDHC 32 Giga formatted FAT32, the system does not recognize any SD card. Is it a issue of the ROM, a problem of HTC Desire HD or ... ?
thanks for any suggestion.

the issue is the SD card. The rom creates files on the SD card and removing it takes away from the rom. So either you need to copy all folders from old SD to new one or just use phone to reformat new one.

Thank you for your fast replay.
It is strange because the phone starts with the ROM also without any SD card.
In any case I copied all the content from the old SD card [2GB microSD] into the new one [32GB microsSDHC Lexar] and it simply does not see any card in the card slot. I tried various restart and the microSDHC appears 'not present'.
I can't format the card by the phone because the card is 'not present'. I formatted in FAT32 and it works perfectly with my laptop.
Do I have to reflash the ROM or is it a issue with the 32GB microSDHC?
thanks again for your support

No first reformat sd card on computer again then place in phone (Dont move any folders to SD just place in phone). If that dont work reflash rom without wiping anything but dalvik cache so you dont lose any of your settings.
Last resort would be to do a full wipe and reflash rom if you dont mind starting over with the rom.
EDIT: The only folder I would suggest to copy back on to your new sd card is the 4ext folder. Your recovery may need this one.
I am using 32GB Sandisk (class 10) and I haven't problem with this sdcard

partitioning sd card

I have been reading that partitioning your SD card before installing roms is good idea. I have a 32 gb card and was thinking of partitioning using ROM manager. What is the ideal space for partitioning and ideal swap space?
i have the same size card in my evo and i use a 1 gig swap partition ...and it seems to like it also ....u can try that or try it like this
1. fat32 remaning space on card
2. ext2/3-1 gig partition
3. linux-swap -100mb partiton
What about the partition size? Also will partitioning erase my SD card?

Here is a guide.
Plus I would not use CWM. Use Amon RA.
And yes this will wipe the card. Back up to your pc.
Thanks! I will back it up before I partition it.

Having issues formatting MicroSD card, Help?

I'm running the Blazer rom with the Jellybomb domination theme. I have a 16GB SanDisk class 2 microSD card. I formated it, it erased everything etc... but as soon as it's done it still says SD card damaged, may need to re-format. What am I doing wrong, or is there a fix for this?

so lemme get this right u wanna format ur ext sd?
Well, perhaps the card is damaged?? Or is one of those fake knockoffs from China.
What I'd try first, is to put it in a PC.. use a normal Format on it (not quickformat)
See what happens... if the PC can format it, then go to step 2 below.. if not it's damaged/fake for sure.
Step 2.. Download one of the many SD card testing software I'd use H2testw.
If everything comes back fine.. then you should be able to pop it into your phone without an issue.. just be sure to format in Fat32 for the best compatibility.
Also, 16gig Class 2 is pretty much the bottom of the barrel card wise.. you can get 32gig class 6 or better for under $20 online at most retailers.. I've seen 32g Class 10 for 30-40, and just bought myself a 64 class 10 from amazon for 55 shipped.
Might be time to upgrade that card

Is creating an exfat partition necessary these days?

Recently changed to a 32gb class 10 micro sd the other day and noticed in the latest TWRP that the option to format isn't there any more. Haven't partitioned a memory card since my og evo and was curious if things changed.
twrp format
twrp and cwm wont recognize memory cards in exfat format. it will only recognize ones in fat32 format. I used a program to convert my 64gb card to fat 32. There is a post on android central with link to the program. Its free too. Hope this helps.
