I was making do with a very slow O2 Orbit for a while and then I worked out what it was.
After soft reset iit was reasonably fast, sd card speed testers telling me that my sandisk 2G ultimate was excellent. Then a little later it was useless. Loading from SD was very slow.
I noticed that it started getting slower after it had gone into hibernation after no use for a short period. I went into "power", "advanced" and took the tick out of "turn device off if not used for" ...
Now it stay at full speed all the time !!
Has anybody else noticed this?, and does anybody know why?
Could it be a bug?, could it be an answer to corrupt cards.
I recon that the power being supplied to the card is less in these circumstances.
From the lack of responses I would guess that I am the only one getting this.
I wonder if this means there is a fault with the card?
No i don't think it's a fault with your card - i'm getting the same thing, but hadn't linked it to hibernation. Every now and then i check the card just to see if it's corrupt and i need to soft reset (fingers crossed i haven't had to for a few weeks now), and what i'll find is that it'll run like a dog just pulling up the list of things on it the very first time, and then after it's up to speed, i wont have issues again, until much later (as it happens after it's turned itself off and i've turned it back on).
No idea what it is though.

Since I've had my Artemis occasionally after a soft reset the SD card appears as not installed. I would have to remove the battery and sim etc, replace the SD card into the holder and start-up the phone and it'd usually be ok. The only trouble is lately it seems to be doing this more frequently and it is becoming more difficult to get the phone to recognise the card upon start-up again. Anyone else experience this? Have an cure?
i've had the same problem on my magican. The solution i found was to remove the SD card and place it back. It seems to me that cardreader's contacts broken.
Its big but you must read first.

So the card is corrupt? Because when I stick it into my pc it reads it perfectly fine, no problems or slowness.
My phone has stopped recognising the card completely now, but when I started the phone in safe mode using iLauncher it recognised it surprisingly. I'm suspecting there may be a piece of software or a setting stopping the phone from recognising it. I'll have a read through that link some more tho just in case there is a solution.
If anyone else has another solution then it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Update: I've tried another 2 known working SD cards and neither of which are recognised by my device to it looks as tho its an issue with the phone and not the card. Has anyone experienced this before?
I've the same problem. I use 2 SanDisk cards, 512Mb and 2Gb, both of them seem to disappear as I boot the device. It hapens 50% of times and begins when I installed the HTC ArtemisSDEnhancement program.
I've tried to uninstall and reinstall several times and to format the crad but the errors continues at the 50% times.
When the P3300 reads the card I notice an abnormal slow response to any input and at the end it hungs for a big while. If you leave it alone it comes back but I usually need the phone now and I must have to soft reset.
I'm about to hard reset and try again but I don't have time.
Well I hard reset my device before I was going to post it back to o2 for a replacement and surprise surprise its working fine again!
That was 23 days ago and since then its behaved perfectly. I've installed the SD enchancement just in case but not certain if that's made any difference. Finger crossed its the last time the card starts disappearing.
This happens on my MDA C3 too now and again.
When it does, a soft reset does not solve it.
I have to take the battery out and then reinsert it.
After powering up the problemis not there.
Anyone know why this is happening as its really inconvenient to keep taking the battery out.
Thanks in advance.
BTW, one thing I have noticed, it seems to happen more often after a registry value change if that help anyone???
I know it's not a battery issue I have two that I bought at different times and it does this with both of them. The phone just keeps freezing no matter what rom I put on it. I've tried the default t-mobile 6.0 and all the custom roms from here. Here's what's happening, I don't touch the phone for a few days, leave it off and everything. When I turn it on it boots up fine, let it sit for a few hours to make sure it's working and as soon as I start doing things on it, the device slows down then freezes. I've tried overclocking the cpu a little just to speed it up but it doesn't help. So once it freezes I pull the battery and try to turn it back on but it freezes on the windows screen, the only way to get it to boot normally is a hard reset, which then it only lasts for a few hours. Any ideas? Is it completely shot at this point?
Than if it is not a battery problem than all I can think of is that there is a hardware problem.
Memory card it sounds like. Take it out and see if it works normally if so go get a new one. Flash memory cards are great but they dont last forever
Oh I would have never thought it would be a memory card issue... but hey that could be the case.
Similar Problem
My Dash has had 6.1 then I went back to 6.0 after having this problem:
Initially this would occur when I would try to access the internet, email, etc. it would just shut down. Now the problem occurs when in a call as well. The Dash shuts down. I would try to reboot but it reads my battery as dead. I tried different batteries, same problem. THe only way to reboot is to plug into recharge. It will reboot but still reads the battery as 0%. When I reboot on power after the initial reboot, it reads the battery as full again. I can keep the Dash on for awhile but, when receiving a call or when it tries to get email (not All the time, just most of the time) it shuts down again.
I took the phone to a repair shop and they replaced the circuit board but it still did the same thing. After reading this thread, the constant is the memory card. Could this be the problem?
Maybe, but it does sound a lot like a situation I had just a lil while back. I could feel the battery getting hot during use and have to leave my dash plugged in all the time. If I unplugged it the battery would die fast and it's prompt me to shut down. I end up testing a lot of things and found that after I removed OMAPClock from the ROM the problem went away. Now you say you went back to 6.0 after having this problem, did you go with one that had OMAP or install it seperately? Since I removed it I haven't had any problems. I still have the ROM I made to get rid of it. It's Rose 1.6 by Ricky & Stylez, only change is I removed OMAPClock from it. Let me know if you want to try it, I'll just need to upload it somewhere...
OMAP
Sure, at this point, I am wanting to have my DASH back! The problem right now is getting the laptop to recognize it and sync again after all the stuff that the shop did. It is not being recognized after their reflash
To get your laptop to recognize it, try this. With your Dash turned off and unplugged, hold down the camera button then plug in the sync cable. The Dash should load the Blue/Green/Red Boat Loader screen. You should then be able to reflash it with an Official ROM.
My Edited version of the Rose ROM 1.6 by Ricky and Stylez is here:

This is to flash back to the T-Mobile Radio which i am also using:

Not recognizing the USB now
I think that the shop didn't connect something, it is not recognizing the USB now. It will charge but not sync or flash the phone.
I took the dash back to the shop to fix their fixing Hopefully, it will sync when I get it back (and they don't try to charge me for the repair!)
Is it possible that the problem is caused by a faulty SIM card? When I sync it, I will see if the problem persists after removing the memory stick.
The simple things are usually the correct things. memory cards cause all sorts of issues, Removing it is simple enough of a way to tell if it is the cause.
OMAP will drain your battery if you let it run all of the time, and the battery will get hot (as well as the processor) from over use. Simply turning off the over clocking when you dont need it solves that problem.
My bet is it is the Memory card, that would also explain the inability to use the USB sync, Windows first looks to see if you are simply plugging in a USB device, checks to see if it is / has a memory card then in the case of syncing (WM) it loads active sync or mobile center if it detects a compatable OS. If your memory card is bad Windows may never ever get past the memory card check and just sit there.
It's not my memory card, I've removed it and even tried a few different ones I had and keeps doing the same thing. I'm thinking hardware related and was actually looking into getting one with a busted screen off ebay or something to put my screen into.
Hi, I just want to see if this is a common problem or it's just my memory card. I bought a 16GB card from Newegg to hold all my music and whenever the card is actually in my phone, (Flashed to EnergyROM Geneis), it is SLOW. Lagging everywhere, almost useless and occassionaly after long hours will give me a "emergency low memory" error, and I will have to reset by taking the battery out. When I remove the card, after a few minutes the phone is MUCH faster, it still lags a bit, but definately useable, and it's just very smooth compared to the jaggy and stiff movements when the card is in.
Whats up? Thanks.
naa, i wouldnt say this is normal mate, prob a duff memory card, try another one and see how it goes.... i have noticed a slow-down on mine when i use my storage card to save all my emails , but apart from that, no difference card in / card out.
Come to think of it.... I may be having the same problem.
About a week ago I installed 3 new pieces of software. After a few days I noticed that my phone has been feeling laggy. So 1 by1 I unistalled the software... still the problem persists.
Reading your post made me think... hmm about a week ago I also installed a 4 gb memory card! The card works fine, I can access it, and store stuff on it.
Also, come to think of it. I was making panoramic photos last night and my phone kept freezing after the 2nd photos. And would crash- resetting itself. I had the phone set to save images to the card. Setting it to save them to the phone it stopped crashing... maybe my memory card is too slow. Perhaps, there is a setting in the phone which affects the through put from the phone to the card that can be tweaked. I seam to remember see settings for power saving features for the micro sd card.. Could this be the culprit?
my well-used card made my tp2 quirky so i reformatted fat32 in vista and all is good.
maybe there is so much songs in your card.
or your card speed is slowly.
Turned off the phone last night, returned to it this morning (6+ hours) with "Power off - shutting down" on the screen. I ended up pulling the battery and booting from cold.
The phone turned back on with no problems, but 45 minutes after turning it off again - it is displaying the same screen and not shutting down. Pulling the battery, turning on and then turning off the phone immediately has the same problem.
Tasks running before the shut down are normal, I have almost no 3rd party apps installed yet.
Ideas anyone?
Sounds like a similar problem that I and a number of others seem to be having. The bad news is that there doesn't seem to be a simple fix at the moment, but the good news is that with it happening to increasing numbers of us, hopefully it will be remediable in a future update.

Hi there,
What main post are you referring to for this issue?
If you could please direct me, thanks.
I'm having the same problem, last week I was turning the phone off and it would turn off in half hour or so.
This morning, I turned the phone off, and it has been "Shutting down" for about 3 hours now...
extremely frustrating!!!
Try to install "aLogCat" application. This app could show Android log files.
And see if you can spot something there ...
I also have this issue. I took out the battery.
The thing is ... after turned on ... you can turn off without any problem.
unmount sd card before shutting down.
Will change it from never to shutting down to shutting down in <10 seconds

Had the same issue when I first got my desire from T-Mobile. SD Card later failed on me, and after getting a replacement from T-Mobile, the phone works perfectly and shuts down instantly. So my guess is that your problem is the SD card. You could try walking to the retailer and try to get a replacement SD card. When mine failed T-Mobile even gave me a 8gb one instead of the orignal 4gb
Im 99% sure its an app/widget causing the prob. I had the same, but its gone when I uninstalled most of my apps. Not sure which app caused the prob though...
I had that problem. After a hard reset it is not present any more. So i guess that some app caused it. Couldnt tell wich one.

It might be harder to diagnose than uninstalling/killing something and trying again, as it might be due to memory leaks, services, other tasks. I've read that it might be related to the backup to sd card which happens from time to time, so unless you're in the middle of a backup then you'd not have a problem (assuming there is a connection). You can only tell over time.
HTC Desire won't power off
I had the exact same problem. I only had 2 widgets active: 1 was the Handcent SMS widget the other was a Battery widget from mippin.com. I changed the Handcent widget to the program shortcut but did not uninstall and uninstalled the Battery widget. Now it powers off with no problem
i have the same issue with my desire.. i have a 8gb sd card in there.. which is nearly full.. maybe thats an issue?

Menu > Settings > SD and Phone Storage > Unmount SD Card
thanks for that.. is there any downside to doing a hard reset? is that setting - privacy - factory data reset?

Once I tried to unmount sd card and then it wasn't possible at all to shut down the phone. I had to remove battery
hey buddy, try to remove quick links like back light and soft reset, it works also try with flash light same...worked with me..good luck. or try toms power off zip.
DESIRE doesnt turn off
It sucks..all night long, this morning i found out it was still in the process of shutting down..turning off the cell phone should be a priority program, all others tasks must shut down..i think HTC should make an update since a lot of users experience same problem.
It used to hang at shutting down with me too. But, and I have no idea what changed, it now shuts down just fine. Weird stuff!
I shut mine down last night. It used to take about 60seconds to shut down but last night it just said "shutting down" for hours. I left it to see what happened. 11hours later it still said "shutting down". I picked it up and was going to open it up and remove battery. I obviously didn't want to do that to get dust and crap into the back of phone. As soon as I turned it over to remove back the screen went white! HTC. And it started up. ? ? ? coincidence or did me moving it around cause the restart after 11hours?
Anyway, I can tell it now has 237mb free (using advanced task killer to check memory available). It never normally has more than 150mb free. Maybe there is a memory leak somewhere in Sense UI? It seems the longer you have used thephone without a restart, the more likley it will hang during shutdown.
I hope HTC are aware of this issue. I logged a support call too, as I'm sure many of you did.
anyway, shake the phone around a bit before you remove the back to see if that helps. It did for me after 11 hours of being stuck on "shutting down!" screen.
Oh by the way, I had unmounted the card befre the shut down in the hopes it would be quicker than 60seconds. It made no difference!
i had this issue also.. a factory reset fixed it.. i think it was an app i installed did the damage.. some mentioned unmounting the sd card first but i tried that and it made no difference..
I don't seem to be having much luck with my Desire what with Youtube sync problems, connectivity issues and now a nice new problem has occurred for a second time so I thought it was worth throwing it out and see if anyone else has experienced this.
Twice now my phone has popped up with a message saying its unable to complete a back up of my settings to the SD Card. After this message is dismissed I can no longer access the SD Card and I have to restart the phone to get it back again. I can eject the sdcard from the settings menu but obviously you can't actually get the thing out so that option is kind of worthless.
Starting to think it might be worth getting a replacement handset, but not certain there is anything actually wrong with it. For reference I have a 4gig SD card that came pre-installed as seems the norm with the HTC Desire.
Your memory card is probably loose.
Happened to me ONCE. I took it out, gave it a clean, shoved it back in and had no problems since,
Fon22
I have the same issue Intermittent and irritating. I have taken it out and reseated it but after a while it comes back again.
