WLAN is disabled when device is off - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hi,
I read the whole forum, but it seems, that noone has that problem:
I Installed ICQ on my XDA orbit. Everything works fine, until I put the device out of my hand and wait, until it switches automatically off. In that moment, the WLAN connection is terminated. Does Anyone have the same Problem? Is there a solution avalible?
Greetings,
Martin

OK, it is not a problem of ICQ or any other application. When switching the device manually off, the same problem occurs. GPRS-disconnecting is fixed via GB-SOFT Tweak, is there a solution for WLAN avalible, too?
Greetings,
Martin

MDA III - Newbie Set-Up Confusion (MSN Messenger)

Hi,
picked up a shiny new MDA III yesterday afternoon having switched providers - number transfer in progress - so I'm new to both the handset and the provider.
Managed to get the unit hooked up to my home WiFi network pertty simply etc and got the Active Sync sorted etc.... other than the fact the GRPS isn't configured out of the box, I've got a single major bugbear to sort.
That is that I don't seem to be able to get MSN Messenger to connect.
It's exhibiting exactly the same symptoms suggested here.... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;832515
... but obviously the refers to a previous OS version ?
So, either I have something to fix or unlock in the set-up, the port is blocked on the handset (works fine on my laptop on the same WiFi through the same firewall) ?
Had a search through the forums, but to no avail. Can anyone help me on this ?
Are there any recommended patches/fixes I should have installed straight from the off ?
Thanks in advance !
Matt
OK, just so you you don't think I'm totally clueless, from what I've just been reading in the T-Mobile online manual, I have to have the GPRS connection open to connect to Messenger.
Is this right ? Surely if I have a active WiFi connection is should be able to connect using that, right ? Will it connect via GPRS and then pass it over to WiFi ?
I'll have to check it when I get home to see if I can resolve it in that way.
Any other tips gratefully received !
Matt
I'm using Messenger with a CSD (GSM) connection because it's part of my allowance. Sorry but I haven't tried WiFi yet.
I'm having the same problem.
MSN Messenger works fine using GPRS but fails to login using my Wifi connection.
What's even weirder is that it works ok when docked (ActiveSync)!!!
I'm using MDA III on T-Mobile (UK)
Anyone got any ideas?
I've tried replicating this issue, but on my XDA IIs over WiFi, it connects to messenger no problem... it doesn't even try to initiate a GPRS connection first. I can only assume that the MDA III is configured slightly differently out of the box.
As a thought, you might want to double-check Connection Manager and see which type of connection is set for programs that automatically connect to the internet
Ok, home and finished doing the set-up.
I've found no way of using MSN by any other protocol than GPRS. If you are WiFi atached and attempt to use MSN, then it will drop the WiFi connection and instead pick up GPRS. And obviously you're on for .075p per kb... which might be the real answer in why T-Mobile have set-up the device in this way.
The 'programs that automatically connect to the internet' doesn't seem to allow you to select WiFi as the default connection, only the range of GSM/GPRS options and the 'My Work' one.
Should I use the 'My Work' VPN option and set that up to use WiFi ?
If anyonebody has got any tips on how to set or hack this... seems there are a few of us that might benefit !
Just out of curiosity: if you go into your WiFi manager, have you specifically told the device that the WiFi card in your MDA III connects you to "The Internet"?
I can't recall whether that was the default setting before I set up my wireless network connection on my IIs... it seems like such a no-brainer, but it could assume that your WiFi connection is to a work network etc.
I'm at work and it 's at home.... but I'm adamant that that it knows that the WiFi connection connects to the Intanet. As you say, I think that it is the default setting
However, I will check !
Any other MDA III owners shed any light on this ?

Problems with Internet connections (XDA Orbit)

Hi guys,
Got my Artemis (in the form of an XDA Orbit, UK) a few weeks ago. Everything was fine until a few days ago. These are my possible Internet connections:
1) ActiveSync
2) WLAN
3) GPRS
(and I'd use them in that order too).
However, everything stopped working - even when #1 or #2 were connected, it'd always try to bring a GPRS session up when I tried accessing something requiring an Internet connection (eg. QuickGPS, IE), and not provide a data connection either.
Has anyone else had a similar problem or know what the cause is? I've been through all the screens/etc, but can't find anything that would explain the problem.
TIA,
G

WIFI - O2 Orbit problems

Hi,
I can conect to my home wi-fi ok and it gets an ip address. i can ping an address but after 30 seconds or so it stops working. it still thinks its connected but cant ping or navigate to any websites
any help greatly apreciated
Hi
I also have a similar problem
I have a 802.11b broadband router (linksys) which works fine with my two wifi PC's and my Wifi XDA Exec to access the Internet and collect e-mail
I just got an XDA Orbit and although it "sees" and connects to the Broadband router it will NOT allow access to the internet or e-mail (apart from one very short half page of ntlworld.com home page on one occasion)
WORST than that - it HANGS the wi-fi router and I have to reset it before I can access the Internet from any other PC's !!
What am I doing WRONG ???
Any suggestions welcomed
just noticed there is another post about this problem
Take a look Here. This worked for me
I originally had trouble connecting to the internet. I connected to my router and added a device registering my Orbit MAC address and the other info required and bingo works a treat. I checked the other link from jamin100, personally didnt have to do this!!
SOLUTION!
Hi @ll..
i had the same Problem..
I connect per WLAN to my accesspoint, then i can open Websites with any Browser.. but after about 30seconds it seems, that the connection is down.
Here i have a solution, that works great at my XDA Orbit
Goto Settings->Connections
Change the Power-Settings of WLAN to Power optimized--> MAX
then the Problem should be solved ;-)
GREAT
This fixed it
Why ???
I should not need extra power - I am 3 feet from the WiFi router ??
XDA Orbit now get hot after 20 mins use onWiFi !!
Hi,
I Am Able To Connect And Browse The Internet At Home Perfectly well However When I Am at University I Try To Connect To The Wifi. It Will Connect but After A Bit It Will Not Load Up Any Pages although It Still Shows I Am Connected! Furthermore my Mate who Has A Mini S And P990i Is Able To Connect And Browse Perfectly.
Another Thing Is That When I Try To Search For Networks It Will Not Show Anything But When I Restart The Orbit It Will Show The Available Wifi!
Finaly I Cant Stop That "Message Sent" Notification, I Have Tried To Do All The Tweaks But Nothing Works
Any Help Will Be Much Appreciated
@eddieorz:
it´s the same at my orbit. it get very hot after some time "online" ;-)
i hope, this will be fixed at the new Update in summer 2007 (WM6)
I know I know, me digging in some old threads.....
Somebody has the solution already???
Thanks again.

GPRS - intermittent problem

Using an O2 XDA Orbit - flashed with the WM6 ROM posted in the other sub-forum.
Although it's configured for GPRS and this works ok (push-email, web browsing etc) it seems to 'lose' the connection on a daily basis requiring a soft-reset in order to bring it back.
No programs stop working, still get the big G symbol, but if I say launch Internet Explorer to try & restart GPRS it just sits there saying connecting ....
My guess is something needs to be 'tweaked' to ensure that I don't lose the connection ... any ideas ?
Cheers
Mark

If you can't connect to your WiFi Access Point with WPA2 encryption read this!!

Hi All,
At my office we have a 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Access Point.
Up to now I was not able to connect and I could not figure out why.
The router has MAC filtering enabled but this was all set correctly, I could see my TP2 MAC address in the client list but on my TP2 it kept saying connecting.....
At home and at friends my Wifi works flawlessly.
I did some searching here and stubmled upon this WM6 Wifi fix.
I thought what have I got to loose. Installed the cab, did a soft reset and presto it connected!!!
I installed the cab in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3157442&postcount=5
Just in case anyone else is experiencing the same....
The cabs you refer to are in the Prophet forum.
Are you sure you don't introduce other problems?

Yes I know, and I thought it was a long shot but I tried anyway. After a soft reset it still works and so side effect at all up to now..
Of course it is up to the user to try this and I can't guarantee anything!!!
Note that those cabs also change the phone so that wifi remains on while in standby. Handy if you use skype but a battery killer if you forget about it.
FWIW I got it working with my WPA2-PSK open-wrt based router without any hacks.
