Hi,
Anyone know where I can get active sync software for my XDA Orbit? I need to sync urgently at work and have left the CD with active sync on it at home.
Cheers,
George
Do a Google Search for "ActiveSync 4.2"
Why can't people think?
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync42.mspx
Thanks Robboy.
esackbauer - some people on this site are rude a*seholes. You are one of them.
ActiveSync 4.2 problem
I had problems with ActivSync 4.2. Bloutooth manager didn't want to offer me ActiveSych service. But now with AS 4.5 it works well.

Sorry I have to agree with esackbauer. I would have thought that was an obvious answer.
Your response to him was much ruder than his to u.
Sorry just my opinion

This youtube video explains what Twitter is.

I tweet using Fring via Jabber. works like a charm!
I stand by my original assessment. It's a way to tell people how your cat's doing in 140 characters or less...and pretend they care.

It can be used for such mundane comments like that. It can also be used for things like
- the U.S. citizen that quickly twittered via his phone that he was being arrested by Egyptian police. http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/04/16/twitter-saves-man-from-egyptian-justice/
- the Chinese that actually reported the earthquakes via Twitter, even before the news caught onto it. http://scobleizer.com/2008/05/12/quake-in-china/
- I hear about the latest betas and receive private invites just by asking other peers in my circle. (i.e. Evernote, Brightkite, Dropbox, etc.) - http://www.spiderbait.com/seo-expert/2008_01_11_archive.asp
- Helped a guy quickly get a number to a locksmith in Hawaii, although I live in NC.
Just google on "top twitter uses", something like that. You'll see alot of news and blog links of various ways that people use it.
Also, when I update my Twitter, it automatically goes out and updates my Facebook, YMsgr Status, Skype Status, and MSN Msgr status all at once.
Also, due to it's open API there are programmers who have been creating all sorts of mashups to work with Twitter. http://twiddeo.com , http://twittervision.com/maps/show_3d . An extensive list here. http://twitter.pbwiki.com/Apps
The only negative thing of late though is that it's so overwhelmingly popular that it has trouble keeping up with the amount of users. They just received another $15 Million in VC, so hopefully they'll use it to fix their scaling issues.
Of course convincing people that twitter is useful is like trying to convince my wife who only uses her mobile phone for making phone calls that my HTC S621 with it's Internet plus all it's other apps, bells and whistles is useful. She can't understand why I need to have access to the Internet 24x7 right by my side.
Thank you,
Tim

Is it just me, or has that picture been PhotoShop'd?
I have posted this under general as well, but I am not sure if folks read the general forums any more than these ones.
Anyhow since I have a hermes I figure I might as well put this up here also.
New from Microsoft, link here. This one rocks as if you rely on windows live for your push email through hotmail, and set sync schedule to 'as it arrives' it dials the GPRS upon reboot so you won't have to do that manually through the sync tab of the old ones, thoroughly enjoy it.
One down side, it doesn't have IM but you can easily use palringo.
I thoroughly enjoyed installing this, and had uninstall the version I had through CRC's. I think one of our members (mrjasjam may be) looking for a windows live build that connects to the internet immediately after a reboot, this is it enjoy!

Hey Zocster thanks mate. The earlier wm6 and 6.1 releases such as Schaps and Pays roms supported auto connect on boot up for windows live but the later releases dont and im talking the same windows live versions too so its the OS that has changed.
Many thanks for posting this. I'll have a play. Cheers.

are you aware that the connections tab in schaps advanced config you are able to set the connection so it connects on boot also. i am using this with one of the other builds and works the same.

Lol no, thanks for pointing that out! You learn something new everyday being here, but the point with this one is that it connects the internet and syncs it with windows live as well so I won't have to go to the sync tab of windows live Thanks tho for pointing that out!

Oh.. Thank you Stylez. I'm aware that I sure as hell should have used the search function to make things easier for the moderators, and I'm sorry that I was unable to overcome my haste. Please understand that I felt this was very urgent because none of my phones (Omnia; Wing; Dash) were picking up the computer's connection, and I didn't think the problem was my computer. I did a complete system restore, so that might have been the culprit. Anyway, things are working perfectly now, and I've finally been able to try the new Windows Live! Thank you guys. I'm glad i can always get good help here.

Was'nt meaning to sound like an ass and the search function is an extremely efficient way to get valuable information, i understand your haste and panic as all of us who use these forums see this happen on a daily occurance generally with Help at the front of post.
Glad you got it sorted

This may or may not be a stupid question and I've looked high and low for an answer but is there anywhere i can download system apps individually? Specifically Windows Live Messenger.
The ROM i have installed doesnt have it included and a .CAB of it would be beautiful.
Correct me if this isnt even possible...
THANKS!
microsoft probably has windows live messenger available for download.
EDIT: I found it, but it is so easy to find that I won't be helping you. I don't even think you searched. If XDA doesn't work, try Google.
if you don't google it your lazing it

Yeah but he said he looked up and down. What a liar.
google ppc windows messenger..
man i get loads of hits on that one!
... thanks for making me feel like an idiot but...
i dont know how there is such a flood of people calling me retarded but iv obviously googled it and found windows websites saying
"How do I get started?
MSN Messenger is a standard application for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs and Smartphones (versions 2002 and 2003).
To launch MSN Messenger on your device, all you need to do to get started is launch MSN Messenger from the Programs menu (a connection to the internet must be established first).
Now you are ready to add some friends and try all the different features MSN Messenger for Windows Mobile devices offers!"
that isnt exactly a download link. every other website is third party apps... which are not what i was looking for. and thus all these answers saying basically "****ing google it liar" are completely wrong. if you actually googled it yourself youd see that it isnt a solution. hence me asking here....
I'm a huge fan of the accomplishments of this community but really though... its a legit question.
If anyone genuinely has an answer thatd be greatly appreciated.
and if im seriously that blind and it is there than im sorry for my incompetence but im fairly certain that this isnt as simple as you all seem to think it is?!
......
nevermind. i am infact retarded. i had no idea that msn was bundled WITH the live service because my phone still had live on it just not messenger... i downloaded the whole bundle and now lifes great... but thanks for calling me stupid a bunch that was pleasant.... how am i suppose to know theyre bundled together?! (windows is ****ing stupid, thats why im a mac user.
lmao!

I noticed that there's no CD in the packing containing the PC Suite - is that to be downloaded from somewhere ?
I searched for this on the forums also, but could not find anything... any help ?
It's on the phone/sdcard. Should also contain the user guide in pdf

oh sorry guys.. just read the Quick Guide - got what i wanted... thanks for the help though
I advise you to check out MyPhoneExplorer which looks much user-friendly than PC Suite For Android.

I guess for some people. Mine's working via wifi so I'm a happy camper!
Dave
Wifi is alright as long as you tend to sync on the same network where you can fix/control your phone's IP.

I second mobisynapse. It works great
I second MPE. Just tested it now and it works great via wifi.
It can sync with Thunderbird (and lightning calendar) which is really good. I used to sync my diamond touch using finchsync which wasn't the simplest of apps but was the only one I could find at the time...
This is so much easier!
I'm much happier storing everything in Thunderbird, open source, than with Outlook (which I don't have anyway) or storing everything in the sync software that might vanish...
mobisynapse is not working for me on Win7. :/
