Hi Guys
Got my Desire HD today... am overjoyed
I noticed that there's no CD in the packing containing the PC Suite - is that to be downloaded from somewhere ?
I searched for this on the forums also, but could not find anything... any help ?
It's on the phone/sdcard. Should also contain the user guide in pdf

oh sorry guys.. just read the Quick Guide - got what i wanted... thanks for the help though
I advise you to check out MyPhoneExplorer which looks much user-friendly than PC Suite For Android.

Another happy MPE user here ...... good forum that gets rapid responses from the developer as well. Also, the app has been around for several years so is pretty stable.

True, MPE just needs bluetooth sync capability for Android phones too.

I guess for some people. Mine's working via wifi so I'm a happy camper!
Dave
Wifi is alright as long as you tend to sync on the same network where you can fix/control your phone's IP.

I second mobisynapse. It works great
I second MPE. Just tested it now and it works great via wifi.
It can sync with Thunderbird (and lightning calendar) which is really good. I used to sync my diamond touch using finchsync which wasn't the simplest of apps but was the only one I could find at the time...
This is so much easier!
I'm much happier storing everything in Thunderbird, open source, than with Outlook (which I don't have anyway) or storing everything in the sync software that might vanish...
mobisynapse is not working for me on Win7. :/

Hey folks.. sorry for the laziness..
I remember there's an app we can use with our HTC devices that allows 'em to be plugged into a PC and be seen as a USB device / mass storage - instead of having to use active sync all the time.
What's the name of the app and does it work safely on my Orbit?
Thank you in advance!
Dood.
Hey Dood,
one app that can do this is "WM5Torage" . Works pretty good for me ...

Thank you ST001! I'll check it out. Much appreciated.
You can try also softick card export
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
Which of the two is recommended? I'm leaning toward the second one, as the description with ref to accessing drivers appears to suggest it is more stable.
Getting My Xda to be seen by Ubuntu
Is there anything out there that can make my Orbit be seen by Ubuntu as a storage device or such like ? I know theres nothing to get it to sync with anything on Ubuntu but maybe there is something that can get the phone to be seen so i can transfer MP3s and such across ?
WM5torage worked fine on my XDA II
WM5torage worked fine on my XDA. However "Card export" didn't work at all.
I had problems as I have a lot installed to my card and when you activate teh software it unmounts it from the device. So while you can access it on the PC the device can no longer see the card. So for me push email would have a problem as it used it for storage, apps wont run etc.
There seems to be a few floating about, any recommendations?
thanks

I tried skybook and mobilizer. neither worked very well. the basics were there but they both have a long way to go. the skybook app always failed to close properly and mobilizer never seemed to open properly.
This is not really an app, but some have suggested using the facebook page for iphone. I believe it is something like iphone.facebook.com or so.
EDIT: Na, I take it back. This certainly won't help you. I just tested the iphone facebook and did not like it. It seems that it uses resolutions for the iphone and everything looks big and blurry on the HD. Besides, that was no really what you were looking for anyway.
Here you go: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=16698519604
If you are going to use Facebook on a PDA, just use "m.facebook.com"... It is a web page obviously, but is formatted better for smaller screens...
Theres one being developed by this very site!

I think you'll have to wait for Tapa Talk to make a Win Mo App.
I've used Opera Mobile and Opera Mini in the past, both have their pro's and cons.

The good news: XDApp, XDA-Developers.com on Your Phone
The bad news: still in beta stage so has lots of bugs
The hopeful news: the developer has an innovative approach where you can pledge to XDA "Bounty"
Cheers
Tom
P.S. You might want to try Java Bolt Browser boltlwvs.jad for the forum
Maybe someone canwrite a web app widget for xda-developers?

Nice one, how did I miss that. Will test it out now
Hey recently ive decided that I want to replace my stereo in my car with a mac mini and an external tough screen. I first thought I would try to use the HDMI feature of the Evo to view my phone on the screen, but I would want it to be interactive on the screen. So then I decided I should find a program that will allow me to use my Evo through a usb cord so the Evo displays on in a window on my mac or windows pc and i can interact with it from there. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this work? Or does anyone wanna take on this project?
There is a thread on this topic in Q&A. I saw it maybe 2 days ago. Has a few suggested apps to control your evo via pc or vice versa.

hahaha i know. but those run through the web and i cant share the same connection if im creating the wifi form my phone.
and the ones that i found that go through usb, which is 1, refreshes and 4 frames a second =/
you could wire up a wifi router..
Here's the thread he was talking about: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971209
Anyway...
I used this: Droid VNC Server (FREE, requires root)
And this: VNC® Viewer Free Edition 4.1 for Windows (also free)
It's pretty choppy, but it works.
If you don't have Windows, pretty much any VNC viewer will work, there's lots of them out there (Google it).
Appreciate it. And yea. The last two days I've been doing research and trying out different ones, and everything had been laggy or choppy. I made this hoping to find a hidden gem that worked perfectly or someone that knew how to get it working flawlessly

Google android screencast, as long as your phone can be detected by adb it works great!

Yes, I'll need your Windows Live ID. You can PM it to me if you'd rather not leave it in the public thread.
I would like to be a beta tester too if there are some slots free. Thanks

That is my question, too.
It is based on the IE9 engine, I doubt. So is it just a different way of UI Design or are there any other additional features compared to the IE9 on Windows Phone?
If I like what I hear, I am ready to invest some time in beta-testing your app.
So make us happy with something special.

Next Browser is based on the IE9 core, but it is meant to be a different experience from Internet Explorer. It is fast and can support up to 10 tabs, and has features like pin to start, and is gesture-based to make browsing simple and clean. You can easily switch tabs by swiping left or right, which makes it easier than in IE. There are bookmarks and history, as well as switching default search provider and even changing the look of the tile.
Please post or PM me your Live ID if I don't already have it, and you want to beta test.
Thanks!

It's not even working for me yet. Sorry about that, but there's nothing I can do. I've always had a delay when I added a new beta, but not usually this long. I will post when I can download it though.

Awesome, glad you like it.
I'm actually really close to finishing Next Browser. The current beta is pretty much useless as I've done so many changes that I don't really trust feedback anymore, because I've been using the newer version that doesn't have most of the bugs the beta has. I'm considering a beta 2. Post if you want to vote.
i thing the bigest problem with browsers on windows phone is that no browser can be set as default...
btw i like NextBrowser i think its better than IE.
