I have done this

and I can flash my Universal with Vista.
My Vista installation is an Upgrade from XP Sp2.
Oh really? I'll have to try that Thanks!
Hi,
Just installed the final of the WMDC and it works.
Here's the problem (ofcourse, there always is a problem ) I had the beta 3 of the WMDC installed before, which held two partnerships of two different devices.
I didn't end these partnerships and I didn't uninstall the beta 3 before I installed the final version as provided in the link in the first post above.
Now the new WM Device Center is installed and none of the previous two partnerships is there. Not a big deal, just connect your device and set one up again. But then WMDC says that the device name I'd like to choose already exists and so can not be used. Same goes for the other device.
So, the partnerships are still there in a way, but I can't locate them and delete them. How can I bypass this situation and delete the old partnerships to start them from scratch again? I think it's a matter of (hidden) folders and files somewhere...
Thanks!!
I havent used WMDC, but in Activesync they are located under C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles.
Just delete the files/dir in there and try resyncing again.
I would imagine WMDC would have a similar sort of dir structure for profiles. I hope this helps you to find them.

Hi! Thanks for helping, but in Vista there's no more "Documents and Settings", but only "Users" and an entirely new folder structure. And I went through all the files and folder it contains, but nothing there. A search through the computer, looking for files containing the used device names didn't help either.
So here's what I did then: I just forced Vista to go "System Recovery" back to the point where the new WMDC was never installed. The old one (beta 3) was there again, just like it was never been overwritten. I could just start it and manage all the partnerships again, so I killed them all.
Then I reinstalled the new, final WMDC again and a succesfull partnership was soon to be made.
Hidden folders
Noticed some folders dissapeared also, Make sure that you unhide system files under folder options and you can see all folders in explorer

I'm so happy that I've not yet test this procedure wanted to share with you ASAP.

Follow these instructions and your vista problem is over.
I used this guide and it works for my artemis p3300 phone!
Please try downloading the latest WMDC first before attempting anything in this section of the guides. you will find the latest version HERE .
To follow this guide please make sure you have a copy of WinRAR installed, I will refer to the Windows Mobile Device Centre as the WMDC for ease of reading. If you do not have the WMDC installed please go here to install it first.
One problem with windows VISTA is that it uses the new "Windows Mobile Device Centre" and not activesync which we are used to, thus our standard RUU programs will not upgrade our Hermes devices as in windows XP. This guide will show you how to configure VISTA to work just the same as XP with our RUU programs.
For this guide firstly you need to download the new drivers:
Drivers for Windows Vista x32
Drivers for Windows Vista x64
Please note the x64 drivers are unsigned so to use them successfully you must disable driver signing.
Extract the contents to a folder on your desktop, call this folder "AS_DRIVERS". It contains the drivers from activesync which we will use instead of the native VISTA WMDC drivers when the device is in bootloader.
Now you must enter the bootloader on your device, to do this press and hold both the side ok button and the power button then put your stylus into the hole on the bottom of the device, your device will reset and show the red blue green bootloader screen. LEAVE THE DEVICE IN BOOTLOADER MODE and connect it using the USB cable to your VISTA PC.
Now navigate into the WMDC (Start>All Programs>Windows Mobile Device Center) and click on the "connection settings" menu icon
In the connection settings menu untick "allow USB connections" then press OK.
Now exit the WMDC and return to the desktop, go into the start menu and type "Services", this will take you into the local services dialogue and show a list of all services either running or registered with your pc.
Scroll down the list and make sure these services are present:
Windows Mobile-based connectivity
Windows Mobile 2003-based connectivity
If these services are not started then double click each one and set them to Automatic start by clicking the "startup-type" drop-down menu and selecting automatic then click the start button in the same window, apply the setting by pressing OK. Now return back to the desktop again.
Go into the start menu and type "Device Manager" then run, this will take you into the device manager. Click the "+" symbol next to "Mobile Devices" and double click on "HTC USB Sync".
This will bring up the properties of the currently connected device (the hermes in bootloader).
Go to the "Driver" tab and click "Update Driver".
Click "Browse My Computer for Driver Software".
Select "Let me pick from a list...."
Click the "Have Disk" button.
Click "Browse" and navigate to the AS_DRIVERS folder we created earlier.
Vista x32 users select the file "wceusbsh.inf"
Vista x64 users select the file "wceusbshx64.inf"
Then click Open.
click next and the driver will be installed (wait a moment).
Press close and escape back to the desktop now.
Now we must stop the WMDC process, start the task manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Escape.
click the WMDC line and click "End Process". In the confirmation window, again press End Process.
Now re-enter the WMDC and re-enable USB connections (click connection settings and tick the box "enable USB connections").
Your RUU programs for HardSPL/Radios/WM6 ROMs should now run as desired once you are synced with WMDC. Since we have updated the driver which vista uses when the device is in bootloader mode.
NOTE:: This technique is still in testing so if you have any issues please post in the official thread. Until we find another way to get RUU working with vista you may need to revert back to XP for upgrading your Artemis.

Just test it without any problem. I confirm the feasability of this procedure.
It rocks!
Always restart after before trying. It has worked with me.
Ha, Well I have tested and all works well, after this I've flashed USPL and B&B 3.7 ROM with no difficulty.
Now if I could only figure out why Mobile device Center will not install properly on my Vista Ultimate that I just 'upgraded' to today. It connected once, ran the sync but did not back up the contacts on my phone to outlook, and now on subsequent tries, the program wont open because of 'unknown problems'.
Maybe it's a sign to roll back to XP.
uninstall wmdc and then re-install. I had this error at first but fixed now.

I had a feeling, I did that procedure once already with redundant results....but then again, half of my peripherals such as DVD-ROM, or wireless card didn't work, but then miraculously started working just as I was about to teach my laptop how to fly.
I will keep trying, thank you.

I'm not sure if that is the problem, but did you tried after restart vista?
When I made the procedure it was not working and then tried to restart and it was perfect.
Bluetooth sync works fine, but USB won't load driver. WM5 OEM, so no bootloader on my 8525. Will this solve my USB problem?
Hmm .. tried to follow the process above and Vista told me I already had the most recent version of the driver .. strange huh ?

Agreed. Some 'versions' of windows Vista have WMDC built in, it is no good, uninstall WMDC and download the version from MS web site. Once installed run Windows Update.

I had this issue too, uninstall vista drivers first, then install those from XP.
I followed these directions to update my Himalaya/Alpine-like i-mate PDA2 with disappointing results -- at first. WMDC claimed there was an error and I could not get it to respond. I flounced away and pouted for a little bit, and when I came back decided the only thing I could think of to change now before re-installing WMDC altogether was to roll back the driver for the mobile devices (in device manager) and WA-LA! Pouting works! I am now able to sync and Klaus (the i-mate) plays nice with Bob (PC)... ah, household bliss!
Thanks!
i still cannot get my laptop to see the artemis when it is bootloader mode - i have the XP driver on!!!!
I would love to try it, but does anybody have a german manual, or a translation program that translates Windows English into Windows German?
I've read good reviews on chrismrulz's bootlaoder programe and I'm trying to use it to update my iPAQ 4700 from 2003 to WM6. However I am obviously doing something wrong as I just cannot get it to work!
Please can anyone offer any advice?
I hope I am following the exact instructions as mentioned here at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=325727
and here is what is happening:
Step 1.
Make new folder in root directory.
No Problem c:\Bootloader set up.
Step 2.
Download WM6 ROM and bootloader into file.
Done as directed from links in instructions directly into new folder.
Checked and c:\Bootloader now has 2 files in it Bootloader.exe and WM6_4700_0_7_0_RELEASE4.rar
Step 3.
Put hx4700 in bootloader mode and place in sync cradle.
I assume I have done this correctly. Screen goes blank and you can just make out the HP logo it says USB when in cradle and shows version 1.01
Step 4.
Open bootloader and select image.
Ok I go to folder and double click on Bootloader.exe
I get a security warning about the software and ignor by pressing run.
2 things now happen simutaniously. Bootloader.exe expands and creates c:\Bootloader\Bootloader and fills it with more files and directories and....
I get a box asking me to select a file to flash ROM to my device. I change the directory back to C:\Bootloader and select WM6_4700_0_7_0_RELEASE4.rar and press open.
I get a message telling me to please wait the file is being extracted and inviting me to press ok. Before I can press ok the box is replaced with a winRAR Diagonistic Message saying c:\Bootloader\WM6_4700_0_7_0_RELEASE4.rar no files to extract.
I close this dialog box and get another message telling me to wait whilst it edits files. Then this in turn is replaced by a message saying Error reading file c:\Bootloader\Bootloader\temp_nbf\ I click on OK to acknowledge.
And that’s it nothing else happens.
I've obviously read the instructions wrong or something can anyone help point me in the right direction? Or offer any alternatives?
I'm using Active Sync 3.7.1
Thanks
Phil
Open the rar file (with WinRar), and read the instructions that are in the Readme.txt file... And update your Activesync to version 4.5, which is needed for WM6.
Excellent,
Thank you Ridolfo, so much easier than what I was trying to do. I now have WM6 working and am very pleased with it.
One problem i now have is Activesync 4.5 will not work with my Outlook 2002 I dont suppose anyone knows a workaround or do I have to buy a copy of Outlook 2007?

Hi Dirlan,
Thank you for the files. I was already experimenting with Opera so I deleted it from my iPAQ loaded Cloudyfa_EsmertecJbed.cab and then reinstalled Opera.
Unfortunately I get an error message from Jbed saying "the file jbed cannot be opened. Either it is not signed or one of its components cannot be found.

After extracting using WinRAR
Trying to upgrade from 2003 to WM6 ...
After extracting WM6_4700_0_7_0_RELEASE4.rar using WinRAR I am trying to follow the instructions in the readme.txt (as Bootloader didn't work for me as in the first post in this thread):
From readme.txt
To begin with if you want to flash your device using cradle, you have to:
1.In processes (CTRL+ALT+DEL) you must kill Wcesscom.exe
2.Then Enter in Bootloader (Contacts+iTask+Reset)
3.Put your device on usb cradle.
4.Run mtty11a.exe
5.In "Port" choose \\.\WCEUSBSH001 and click OK
6.Write command: lnb OS_WM6.nb0
7.Wait
8.Enjoy yourself
As I'm not all that familiar with this can someone explain in step-by-step what's involved with the mtty11a.exe application, and Step 6?
Currently my hx4700 is what I think in bootloader mode (Screen is dim an I can barely make out "USB" the hp logo and the current version "v1.01"). I previously tried the original WM5 upgrade and it just dies on me at 0.1%.
Hi tk2000
As I posted the original post I know exactly what you are going through. However once I went through the instructions you are currently trying to use every thing went smoothly. You have extracted the .rar file and are unsure of the mtty11a.exe file.
Assuming you have you have killed Wcesscom.exe on your pc as in step 1,
and the device in in its cradle in bootloader mode (as you described very faint HP logo, USB and version 1.01 displayed).
Then double click on the mtty11a.exe as in step 4. This then brings up an application and you will see a dropdown menu next to port, simply select the option \\.\WCEUSBSH001 and click ok.
6.Write command: lnb OS_WM6.nb0 now this stage I was a little unsure of myself I simply typed "lnb OS_WM6.nb0" in from the keyboard and pressed enter and it started to load. This takes a few minutes but afterwards you should have WM6 on your device.
I had to do a couple of hardware restarts and it took a few minutes in its cradle but it all works fine for me.

Hi Phil,
There should be an 'opera-unsigned*.cab' somewhere here on the forum. I didn't try it because Opera works fine for me.
Sorry
Dirk
Phil3099, I a followed the instructions exactly but I don't see a status bar on the pda. mtty showes the progress with lines of + but the 4700 stays on the hp logo screen with USB on top.
Everyone's having problems lately with the new Roms and sync w/ Vista. I've used this on my last 5 Roms and it has worked every time.for WMDC (vista activesync) to work go into the device ID and name the phone "Pocket_PC" exactly how I typed it........no qoutes. ....oh and BTW make sure your Schaps Config also names the Device Pocket_PC
Let me know if it works for you
UPDATE!!!
ADDED: remove the advanced config program from your phone that works also!!
Any luck anyone?

Don't have a Vista box here @ work, but will try it later tonight. I wasn't having as much as an issue with it as some people. Sometimes I would have to kill mobsync and restart it for it to work.... I'll give this a try and see
Haven't had any problems synching with my Vista 32bit but if I do I'll try this..thanks
No Problem with Vista64 SP1

This is weird because i have been having this issue lately too. Also my father with the same phone and different computer is having the same issue.
Seems to happen when im switching roms. FYI iv tested many Minella2d roms.
questions from a noob
I just got this phone, and my only other ventures into ROM changing was a Motorola ROKR E6 seems similar but I am trying to figure all of this out without a users manual, software disc, just by reading and trying to download.
My questions are how do I change the name of my phone. When I power on it says that it is pocketpc I already went to microsoft and downloaded the info for viista wdmc but I don't think that the computer recognizes the phone other than the auto play feature.
THanks
Tried your fix and, I am afraid, it didn't work for me. My Hermes still fails to sync after the intial setup.

if your phone is connected your good to go another way you can go to activesync is in Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Sync Ceter
I am not sure if I should post here or under Schaps' rom thread. I have Schaps 4.31 rom. For 4 days now my 8525 stopped syncing with the computer, but in the same time my contacts and my events/calendar on the phone disappeared. I reinstalled the rom again, I reinstalled the Windows Mobile 6.1, with no effetcs. When the computer odes the first sync and set-up it says that I don't have the outlook installed. I have it on the computer, and on the PDA I have the office. So I am kind of stucked. I tried the Pocket_PC ideea, but the only thing now is that the Windows Mobile Center stops working in the middle of syncing, and ... no results.
Thanks for help

VERY frustrating
Vista and sync issues
I have two 8525 phones - under Vista, one would sync, one would not. I kept getting the RNDIS error and unrecognized device. I connected the one that was good, and went to the device manager to get details about the drivers used.
I connected to one that did not connect, and got to the point where I could specify the driver location, pointing it to C:\Windows\WindowsMobile worked for me.
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but a forum search revealed nothing...
How do I install .NET 3.5 on my Touch HD?
I have installed Advanced Congif , and it tells me i need to install .NET in order for it to work.
I downloaded the .net redistributable file from the MS website (filename is NETCFSetupv35.msi), but when I try to run it on my HD as I would with a .cab file, it tells me there's no associated program to run it.
I guess it has to be installed some other way (through ActiveSync maybe?), but I don't know.
Any helpful soul out there care to put me out of my misery?
Cheers in advance
Pete
Yes it has to be done through Activesync.
run it on your pc, and it will install on your device (or next time you connect if you're not connected when you run it)
It says on the microsoft download page...:
This package uses ActiveSync 4.0 to update the device. Before running NETCFSetupv35.msi, connect your device to your PC. If your device is not connected, ActiveSync will store the CAB file and will not install the package until you connect. If you are not using ActiveSync, run the CAB files on the device that correspond to the device–specific CAB files found in the install folder.

My ActiveSync is okay, and the cab is from the microsoft site...
EDIT:I think something is wrong with my phone, but I don't want to do a Hard reset.
Installed no problem if you use your PC to get the CAB just pop in onto the memory card, bung it in your phone and using file explorer locate file and install onto your device. Easeeee
Even easier would be to use PIE and visit this site/thread and follow the link to download directly onto phone then do above in File Explorer

.NET 3.5 cab
bro,
.NET 3.5 is available as cab for direct installation on to your phone. Copy in to your phone / storage card and install in phone memory. I have installed on my HD stock rom and works fine. Here it is .... hope this will help, this is my first response to a mail and hope what i do is right. thanks Dr Shaheed
I was updating my freinds dash, he had official rom on it, i went to rose rom v1.7a and also kavana final and some others and then i went back to latest t-mobile official rom 1.16 something, and all of them now say "drivers is not loaded" when you go to look at the wifi status, I loaded the WM2005 SDIO wifi drivers cab and also got a fresh copy of wifiinit.exe in the windows folder and then put the shortcut to it in the startup folder....i now have it running the rose v1.7a, i am lost, i'm on the phone now with a clueless pda expert at t-mobile.
still no solution to this problem, my friend might have to reflash back to original and do warranty exchange...i don't know what went wrong...he needs a new phone anyways...or maybe get the updated dash

The drivers are included in every ROM I have ever flashed, loading them comes from the .lnk file. So unless you are getting an error that the drivers do not exist or have failed they are their. It is possible your .lnk file is pointing to the wrong location

Strange, the problem was due to a defective battery! Seems that when I try to switch on WIFI and SD, the battery level goes down in a way that the OS does not load the drivers. Charged the battery to 100%, and rebooted, everything works normally.
if you have a drivers problem, should try with this...i had the same in my dash...."drivers not loaded"...i put this files on the phone and wifi works again.
Please help
I just got my dash. I upgraded it to the kavanna but then i wanted to give the vanilla version a try since i needed a cleaner version it had a picture of the tmobile shadow but i thought it would be ok since the folder tittle said excalibur. It gave me and error at 3 % saying that the iimage was the incorrect size. Then it started up with kavanna but there was no wifi option. Then i downgraded to wm6 standard but my wifi wont start. When i check the settings it tells me that the driver is not loaded. Ive been looking around in this forum for 2 days. All i see is people saying that this topic has been covered already. I tried the wininit.ink and exe thing and no success. I hard reseted and nothing. I tried different roms and the official tmobile but nothing seems to work. Is there a way to start from scratch???i just want to stick with the official tmobile rom. Please help meee.
Im running vista ultimate
the official tmobile rom latest version

wifiinit.lnk must be in the windows startup folder, or the drivers wont load this has been covered and a forum search would have shown you that
