Hi,
please can someone tell me, why the inter gps only works with TomTom
on my XDA ORBIT?
I tried MioMap from a friend, but it tells me: No GPS was found.
Same problem with other software like gpstuner / smirftech and so on.
What can i do?
Is there a trick?
Are there tools to tweak the gps ?
Please give me an tip.
Big THanks
Bye
On my MDAC3 it works fine with both Tom Tom and Memory Map and it also worked with Pocket Earth.
Regards
TomTom is not the only software that works with the internal GPS - I tried several that worked (for example, ESRI ArcPAD 7.01 and MagicMaps2GO 2).
But you are right, GPSTuner doesn't work - it locks up my device while trying to find the GPS. There is a workaround described in the GPSTuner-Forum: You have to install GPSGate (software that works as an intermediary between the GPS and any other software) (http://gpstuner.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1044).
But contrary to what the developers of GPSTuner think (namely, that TomTom locks out every other software from using the internal GPS), I don't think that's right because at least to different applications from different vendors work. There has to be something else...
Ah, big thanks!
Please tell me your config for GPS.
Why you can find the gps intern for MioMap!
I have got the same hardware like you!!
Please
Big big thanks
works ok with igo2006 and papago7 also
the problem is with destinator6 last version 6.1.1.4000
and we waiting for a bugfix from destinator tech.
a trick that can fix this prob is if you put the version with tmc and have always the tmc on,with this the com port stays open
config
com4 baud 115200
tmc on com4 9600
thiw trick was find from user Minotavrs

Has anyone tried Navigon MN5 with Artemis yet?..........
Thanks
Rafiki
I did.. Navigon works fine, but is really slow on my Artemis. TomTom is much faster. I tried Navigon because of the TMC support, but i can't get TMC to work on my device. I'm going to try iGo 2006 as well, but for now TomTom does the job very well.
Now I'm using iGo 2006. I can recommend this piece of software to everyone, it's much faster than both TomTom and Navigon. The looks are incredible.
My tomtom takes ages to find the sats when you first boot it up. Is this normal??

Try to find the upgrade to v6.02 as this has the option for "Built In GPS" and it'll then use the Quick GPS data. Cold start is now 10 seconds for me with warm start being about 3 second!
Navigon 6
Navigon 6 works fine, but it is really slow on Artemis, is there anyone knows how to turn the first warning off in the begining of screen ?
Does iGo support QuickGPS so that it can lock on fast?
A cool nav program is Route 66. Works fine and gets a fix in approx.10 sec. Uses same maps as Navigon btw!
TomTom is a joke if you live in Eastern Europe. Either no maps at all or very poor with only very major roads.
I only work with DestinAtor on my Artemis. Version 6.0.0.
Very fast fixes (approx 6-9 seconds) and response from map is better then TommyTommy, according to a friend of mine. He switch over to DestinAtor aswell.

Guys can someone tell me what settings they have on their Artemis' GPS Settings and on their TomTom 6.200?
On my Artemis' GPS settings, I have it set to:
GPS Programs Port: COM4
GPS Hardware Port: COM2
Baud Rate: 4800
Manage GPS automatically set to: ON
And on the TomTom settings I configured it to use the Other NMEA GPS Receiver, set the baud rate to 4800 and then when it asks "GPS is connected to:" I just select COM4 which is the first option.
Now this works for me pretty well but the weird thing is my HTC P3600 seems to be a lot quicker at getting a fix and it has connections with more sattelites and a better signal than the Artemis!
As far as I know, the artemis is suppose to be much better when it comes to GPS because it has the latest Sirf 3 GPS receiver and from what I read somewhere, the P3600 has another GPS chip not as good as the Sirf 3.
Would be good to know what settings everyone else is using. By the way TomTom only seems to detect the GPS when the GPS Programs Port is set to COM4 on the Artemis' GPS settings. Setting this to anything else doesnt work.
Thanks in advance.

Hello, I put the Navigon 6,2 software on my P3300 today. Awesome stuff. The update 6,2 has improved the Speed alot.
The only thing that i need help with is the TMC service.
how can i get that up and running?
Thanks
Tim
Hi,
I'm currently running navigon 6.1.5 on my P3300 with WM6 (NewArtemis2). Every now and then I'm getting the message that my memory is full. At that moment I can choose to end different programs. Normally or MN6 or phone. Because I'm using navigation I choose telephone. Then after a few minutes I'm getting a network faillure and MN6 ends.
Is this a known problem and if it is, is there a sollution for it?
Thanks for your help.
Paul
Bringing up an old topic again.
I tried to install Navigon MN6.2 on my artemis. Everything goes well, except for the images on the screen, it's far from smooth.
How did other people manage to run MN6.2 to run smoothly on there Artemis?
Hello,
I was planning to buy the HTC P3300 one of the main reasons is the build in GPS (which I want to use in my car). Is the build in GPS good enough to use in a car? I start having doubts when I saw a package offered with a external gps as well?
Thanks in advance,
Luigi
Of course it is usable in car. I had the p3300 gps (now the p3600 trinity gps). both devices have very good signal. So no external gps recommended.

Yep, works totally great. The Orbit has a very good GPS receiver, v. good at receiving signals, and the units volume level make it equally good for hearing the voices. I've used prevoius PDA's with an external GPS, but the Orbit does just as good, without all the hassle of extra leads.

Can anyone help me?? i have got the Artemis since 4 weeks, TomTom was pre-installed and worked actually, but couldn't find some maps for it. Therefore I removed the app and installed iGo 2006 and some other GPS apps. Now I cannot find TomTom and all the other apps throwing me the same "cannot find GPS receiver" message. Is there something wrong with the TomTom removing or there is some way I can tune the receiver to answer for the other apps.
Thanks in advance

In tomtom you have to select the Internal GPS receiver.
serch for settings in the other apps where you can select the GPS receiver.
It is connected to COM4 by default.
Yes, in TomTom you must go to the menu screen, select 'Change Preferences' then select 'Show GPS Status' then select the 'Configure' tab. Once your there select look for an option for 'Built In GPS Receiver' if it is there your done, if not you need to select 'Other NMEA GPS Receiver' set the GPS Baud Rate to 4800 then select the COM Port your GPS is on, usually COM4 by default.
Hi
I have the same problem, I've checked all the settings (tomtom and device)and they're correct but still Tomtom says no gps device.
I've just hard reset my device, is there anything I need to do?
I have a xda orbit.
edit: sorted, just me being stupid (as always)
Try with this settings
Try your mobile under system settings you can find GPS icon.
Check GPS program port is COM4 and Hardware port is COM3 with baud rate 4800 selected. Access tab click Manage GPS automatically
Once these settings are same as above try with your GPS software (TOMTOM or any other) with the GPS port as COM4 selected.
Please let me know if it works

thank you but in Settings/Hardware/external GPS there are 3 tabs, one called programs, one called hardware and one called access (i think...is "accesso" in italian). How I have to set the 3 tabs????
In particular...
programs makes me choose a port that the softwares will use to communicate with GPS device
hardware makes me choose a port in which the GPS device is connected and the baud.
Access ask me if I want to automatic manage the GPS
What I have to set in each tab????
Thank you so much
Shouldn't matter set Progs to GPD1, HW to Com9 57600, Manage GPS Auto ON

I have Tomtom version 7.450 Build 9028 working almost perfectly on my G910, installed fine and just had to choose 'Other NMEA GPS receiver' in the GPS setup screen. The GPS receiver is sensitive enough to work in a room with a few windows
I will say though that I am getting the issue described here relating to the voice commands being cut short:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363147&page=6
The fix cures it but I don't think there is as much memory available because I get an out of memory message at the moment, I am still trying to cure it

I also installed this version of TomTom and I had to confirgure it as GPS NMEA receptor on com9 with the speed of 57600. Than you have to wait about 2 or 3 second for TomTom to find the device.
With the internal GPS, it does not work.
Hope I could help you.
Best regards,
Dave
