Hello all - just got my MDA III yesterday. Overall very pleased. Having one issue with crackle from the speaker when a call comes in and 'announce caller' option is enabled with Microsoft Voice Command 1.5
Without this checked, the phone rings as normal, but with the option on there is definiate crackle that I don't hear when using voice command at any other time. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a fix?
Regards,
Darren
same issue, don't worry... probably a bug in Voice Command. Gives same problem on all ROMS and models
This seems to be an existing problem with BA speaker. If there are two or more sound sources going off at the same time, the speaker crackles. If you only let only one sound source going off at a time, the speaker won't crackle.
Um wrong! Its the audio priority. So with a registry editor do this for the fix. Change this HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev\Priority256
to 75 and soft reboot. No more problems.

Your tweak didnt solve my problem, In my signature you'd see the rom version on my BA. I even tried many more settings, none worked.
I want to add something by default I don't have the function Priority.
Ram, I had a ba device and did the same thing and it worked just fine. I unloaded the ba device becasue its a piece of shi. Did you use resco to modify the entry key and then reboot? Tell me what you did. If you want pm me and I will walk you though the proceedure. Otherwise if you have done that its a hardware issue. Buy another device or send it in for repair.
Mike
No, fix doesn't work for me either

Hi, I created a Dword HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev\Priority256
value data Decimal "75" , then I tried many combinations and I rebooted it everytime.. None solved my issue.
Ps: It's not a hardware issue, this crackling pops up while playing the ringtone and especially while announcing the name...
Thanks for your concern..

I noticed the same thing when there are 2 sound sources going to the speaker at the same time the speaker crackles badly.. (on mine it does at least).. Otherwise, I haven't heard of this crackling till I installed Voice Command.
my BA also has this problem.
I am using VC 1.5
Hiyas...
I have a SX66, that I recently upgraded to WM5, and it works pretty good. A little slower then WM2003, even with the patch applied.
Anyways, my problem is this: all the sound on the phone is very low.
When I'm on speakerphone, its only marginally louder then when its not on speakerphone.
I can't use a headset because even in a completely silent room, the audio is at the bottom threshold of my hearing... I really can barely hear anything over it.
Also, the audio in normal mode is ok, but it is still soft (along with ringer)...
My question is if anyone knows a way to fix these audio issues? maybe theres a reg key i have to edit or something... I dunno.
Thanks,
jf
no one has any clue?
well, I did a soft reset twice and now everthing works perfectly
other then it being a little slow.
Hi, this is my first posting on this forum (which I have been reading for a while) and I take the occasion to greet you all.
I've got a Samsung i780 (Italian brand TIM) and I am very pleased with the same. However, (maybe because I'm deaf although I don't think so) I find the volume-output of the earphones very low! I read on an Italian forum that by using the code:
*#0002*28346#
one gets access to the volume panel control of the i780 and from there one could probably increase the volume-output for the earphones.
I'm a bit "nervous" of accessing said code and before doing so I wonder if you can let me know if:
1) once entered in the service-menu (using above cited code) is there some kind of exit (without saving) for instance like when ones enter the BIOS-settings in a PC?
2) has anyone already modified the volume with success?
3) is it straight-forward or are there many parameters to change?
Any help/input from you would be really appreciated. If someone already have a procedure (or a link) that would be really great.
Regards,
/tilleke
I would also like to know if this can be used to increate the PHONE volume as well, which is too low for me, the lowest of all phones i had...

indeed it will take you to a menu that allows you to control several variables related with sound... did not test, but it was a good hint. I'll post my findings when I have the time to test it
Samsung i780 - service menu?
Hi guys.. inspired by the *#0002*28346# code for changing volume (which works well by the way..) - I was wondering how to get to the following menu:
[1] Debug Screen [2] Version Information [3] RF Test [4] UMTS rf nv [5] Read gsm rf nv [6] Write gsm rf nv [7] NULL [8] Audio [9] Common ”€\ [1] Basic information ”Ź\ [2] MM Information [3] RR Information [4] GSM Neighbour Cell [5] GPRS Information [6] SIM Information [7] Handover [8] Phone control [9] Antenna & ADC Test
These strings (basic menu) and even more interesting ones(submenus),can be found in the i780_DXHC4_Rev12.img file, I guess it's some kind of service menu, yet I've no idea HOW to get to this menu... anyone does ?
it is indeed possible to enter and exit the menu without changing values. just pressing ok.
...and the settings survive after soft-reset... I guess they are stored in the nvram. Great for making by bluetooth handset louder
What exactly did you select in the menu to increase the volumes of the phone? there are many paramters in every menu, is there some manual for this?
Many thanks for your replies. I will now try it out.
In any case, if someone obtain some real good results it would be great if you could post a more "detailed" procedure. I will do this myself as well.
This could be useful for other users as well.
Thx and rgds,
/tilleke
There is no manual.... but generally....
TX - controls how loud people will hear YOU
RX - how loud YOU can hear ppl
- XX dB .. +XX dB .. logarithmic scale.. negative values decrease volume, positive values amplify volume, 0 dB = "original" sound without any processing (decrease/amplification)
Works also with the ring tone volume, speakerphone volume, media player.. everything - and values are retained after soft-reset, but reverted during a hard reset.
I've attached the app that is launched with the key combo.. can't launch it manually though, any idea why? And also, where are the values stored? They are applied immediately..
Hi,
Its still not clear how to adjust...
1) what's the difference between Normal Mode / Talking mode ? Normal does not have RX / TX...
2) I will use TX to increase hwo loud i can hear people but what is the other settings (RCV, MPBST, MVOL, M2BST)?
Can anyone post the original settings here, please. I accidantly increased the microphon sound of my earjack and do not know what parameter it was. I want to avoid a hardreset of course ...
what was the problem after increasing ? is it too loud?
I did some chnags andI am really happy with them

yes, too loud. the caller told me he wasn't able to understand any word because of scratching noise.
Can you post your Settings? Maybe they work for me too...

Hi Dirk
so sieht man sich wieder
HP :-7.7db
RX:-6db
MPBST:+12db
MVOL:0db
M2BST+0db
TX:-6db
Das sind die Einstellung vonTalking/Earjack. Reicht dir das?
I don't know how to increase my microfone. I tried many settings but no results. Could someone help me? which setings I must change to increase volume on my microfone. Sorry for my english. I'm still learning.
found this on wordpress.com
Here’s a tip from Gavin to tweak the i780’s volume-
*#0002*28346# code for changing volume
TX - controls how loud people will hear YOU
RX - how loud YOU can hear people
- XX dB .. +XX dB .. logarithmic scale.. negative values decrease volume, positive values amplify volume, 0 dB = “original” sound without any processing (decrease/amplification).
Works also with the ring tone volume, speakerphone volume, media player.. everything - and values are retained after soft-reset.
Thx Reyals but I read this before. I set this:
Talking -> handset and Earjack:
TX to 0dB, next time -1,5db and -46,5dB (Available value for this setting: from -xx to 0dB)
next menu and apply.
I didn't see any difference. Maybe I chose wrong setting.
This information is very useful to improve the talking quality of BT handfree
If you own a BT handfree with DSP and use it on i780, you will found that other people can't hear what you are talking.
Your voice will process two times in BT handfree (DSP) and Phone (TX -9dB). it result the voice is very LAG for hearing.
But if you use a BT handfree without DSP it will be fine.
Therefore if you use a BT handfree with DSP, you should set the TX in BT mono to 0db.
P.S. I found that the i780 is REAL stereo BT (A2DP), not same as HTC phone used joinstereo. and the BT sound quality on i780 is great with my plantronic 855.
I've been playing around with the settings but I have not managed to increase the volume-output of the earphones (for listening to music). I have tried all possible settings but in vain
Someone who knows what settings to change?
Thank you.

**PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY AND ARE COMFORTABLE REVISING IT BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS... USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!**
Hey guys,
My first tweak post, so be gentle!
So, I always like to take the source audio file and bump it up to maximum dB levels while ensuring sound integrity. This way, the ringtone is nice and loud if I set the phone's volume to max. (Keep in mind, you can always make a ringer quieter, but can't make it louder than maximum allowable by the phone.)
I was in the process of making custom ringtones for my TP2 and testing out their volume through the settings/audio/preview panel. Here, the ringtone sounded nice and loud, but to my dismay, when I got a phone call, the ringer was easily 2/3 the volume of when I previewed it even though it was set to max volume!
So, after researching online and doing a few different combinations under HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories, I found that the following registry revisions ensured that I get the same maximum audio output when a ringtone actually goes off as when I preview it:
***CAB INSTALL:***
Just download the attached cab below and install!
(Courtesy of XDA Senior Member cerealfreak, thanks bud!)
***MANUAL INSTALL: Make sure the following keys ONLY have the values listed.***
1) HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Attenuation:
Make sure you ONLY have the following entries:
Value 0: DWORD, Value data: 0
Value 1: DWORD, Value data: 1
Value 2: DWORD, Value data: 1
Value 3: DWORD, Value data: 1
Value 4: DWORD, Value data: 1
Value 5: DWORD, Value data: 1
2) HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring:
Value AttenuationCategory: DWORD, Value data: 4
Value DefaultSound: Leave alone, default
Value Directory: Leave alone, default
Value InitVol: DWORD, Value data: 5
Value Speaker: DWORD, Value data: 1 (Thanks leepriestenator!)
3) Soft reset
4) Test with an incoming call... your max volume should be much louder than before!
***AUTO REG INSTALL:***
1) Download "Ringer fix.zip"
2) Extract "Ringer fix.reg" & copy it to your Storage Card
3) Run Registry Editor
4) Select left most button (single folder w/ lightning bolt), then choose "Import..."
5) Find the "Ringer fix.reg" file that you stored and select "Done".
6) When it asks you if you want to import, say "yes/OK."
7) Soft reset and you're good to go!
(WARNING: As with any other ringtone, if this makes your ringer sound too loud & with static, then your source ringtone is too loud and must be adjusted down as this could blow out your speaker after extended use!)
Had the same issue with a quiet ringer and even system volumes (basically, anything that comes out of the speaker as a notification or ring), and this didn't solve it..... Really hoped this would, as I won't use AudioPara 3 or 4 until it is in a CAB file I can uninstall completely - lots of issues with people saying there are too many other registry changes going on that affect mic volume as well when using AudioPara!
I set all my settings to the ones listed, soft reset, and saw that all the settings were still saved, none reverted back as is the case with the HD Tweak change..... really, what is the point in changing the volume in a tweak like that if it doesn't save when the phone is reset? Did I really buy a phone that requires me to use HD Tweak every time I reset it to make sure the volume is loud enough to hear?

Sounds like we're describing two different issues. My issue was... when I previewed the ringtone at MAX volume under settings, it would be much louder than what the phone actually rang when a call came in. The registry settings above fixed this for me.
We're both saying the same thing - both had a quiet ringer as an actual notification regardless. I tried the AudioPara3 replacement file after backing it up and now my loudspeaker is noticeably louder. But thanks anyways, maybe this will work for others!
did not work for me either. when i preview the ring tone its loud but when i get a call its not as loud????????????

Did you make sure that Value AttenuationCategory is a DWORD & not STRING? For some reason, it's defaulted as a STRING.
Also, if you have any Speaker value under HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring:, make sure you delete that. HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring should ONLY have 4 values in it.
Fixed it. Thank you!
Will this only affect low ringer volume?
I am looking for a way to turn up the headphone volume, as it is a lot quieter with NRGRom then with the stock HTC ROM

well i gotta say the first time i did it i did not change "attenuationCategory" to DWORD but when i did that it did seem to make a difference. So thanks
Don't delete the speaker value!
This works just as confirmed by everybody else, but (you knew there was a but ) if you delete the Speaker DWORD value and happen to be using a BT headset, then it takes about 3-5 rings before you can hear the ringtone play on your speaker. In fact the ringtone starts playing but you can't hear it until after about 3-5 rings. I have MS Voice Command installed so maybe that could be the added complication. Try it out. If you loose your first 3-5 rings when ur BT headset is connected to your phone, then just restore the speaker value. Leaving it there doesn't have any impact on the volume.
TNX to the original poster.
Cheers
Also, can someone please post what the original SPEAKER value is? I just know that it is a DWORD but don't recall the value after I deleted it. For now I have set the value to "1" and it seems to be working, but i'd still like to know what the original value is.

I usually sync my phone to the car's hands free bluetooth, so I don't experience this problem. I will update my original post with your feedback, thanks!
I've been having wierd problems after trying out some of these changes. Most of the times there doesn't seem to be a problem but on occasion my ringer just doesn't... well... RING!
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Also take a look at this. The Attenuation is set to "2" instead of "4" like we have done bro. Any thoughts on this?

I have to say... I haven't had any non-ring issues. And, I use my phone quite a bit for business/conference calls, so if I had a bunch of missed calls, there would be a lot of upset people...
Might be something else you installed?
Thanks for posting this. It worked for me. I tested it for 2 days and I had no missed calls.
Omg ! It worked !
Wow .. Thanks !!!
Used your Suggestion ...
1) HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Attenuation:

Value 0: DWORD, Value data: 0
Value 1: DWORD, Value data: 1
Value 2: DWORD, Value data: 1

3) Soft reset
4) Test with an incoming call... your max volume should be much louder than before!
And Its WAY TO LOUD NOW !!! I Love IT !
It Also fixed Ms Voice Command Level !
I Now Can Hear Whos Calling Also !
Also Used : AudioPara3_TMO.cab
However did not fix the ring volume - but fixed the volume of everything else!
So between the two fixes .. my god .. is it loud now! lol
( Now if I could Only Get The Ear Volume Like the ring volume I Would Be Freaking Happy! )
Thanks !

Yep, you can always make the ringer lower, but can't make it louder than max.

Must have something to do with MSVC. NRGz ROM gives me everything else I need, so I dont realy have anything else installed.
I disabled the Incoming Call Announcement but it still persisted. I hard reset a few days back so everything is back to normal. I'm gonna give this a shot more carefully this time.
@WarLock... The AudioPara CAB... is it recommended for non TMO Rhodiums (say the Unbranded one)?

I am not sure .. I have a t-mobile tp2 worked great for all system sounds.
But didnt help the ringer problem The other fix helped that.
Now I need to fix the ear volume :/ Tried many things nothing has helped!
Hi,
I have a samsung focus running 7.10.8107. I was tired of the people on the other side telling me that they cant hear me. tried diagnostics in vain since *#197328640# was not working. I was driven to the verge of a hardrest and thought, if Hardset is the only way, why dont I fiddle with some reg keys.. The issue was that there were no reference available.. I searched the web and found that am not the only one with this issue but there were no solution.
I took a chance and tried to follow the WM reg key changes and with reg editor 1.2.0.0 (thanks to Julien Schapman) I searched for keys similar to the ones in WM 6/6.5 used to tweak mic volume, like "mic" "audio gain" etc. I played around with few keys for over 10 days now and My issue with Mic is gone if I use the following reg edits
HKLM/software/samsung/Audio here my DualMicState was "0" and EnableDualMic was "1". I changed these as "1" and "0" respectively. And I haven't heard a complaint yet from the other side that my voice is feeble. Pls note that we cant keep both the keys at "1" for it falls back to the original state after a reset and people would no longer hear you.
P.S. I do not know what these reg edits really do. Of desperation I tried something and it seems to have worked. I take no responsibility of your device damage. BUT IT WORKED FOR ME!
If someone could explain the real reasons why it worked that would be great.. I am creating tis as a seperate post get some expert to comment on it. Thanks
It could be that the primary mic broke and by enabling dual mics you have enabled the 2nd mic.
