automatically turn on wifi? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

hi all,
is it possible to automatically turn on wifi when an app that needs n/w access starts, then turn it off after x minutes of activity? i'd don't want to leave wifi turned on permanently as it kills the battery, but it'd be nice to be able to surf just by opening up PIE and have it handle the connection, just as it currently does with a dialup connection...
ric

It is possible - but you probably need a scripting app like MortScript or SK Schema (I can never remember the name).

WiFi switches off in standby....

hey guys,
i'm sure this has been asked, cant find the thread...
wifi on wm6 seems to dis-connect when vario II goes into standby...
and looses watever net connection u on...
anyway of sorting this???
dude, does your computer use the internet (WiFi not Ethernet) if it's on standby? I believe it does that to save you some precious power. Be happy.

This is a default behaviour of windows mobile (even version 5 already did this) and the software that uses the wi-fi connection should take this into account.
(skype for example has an option to "avoid device suspend" when open)
I'd like to know if there's an easy way to keep the Wifi on in standby too, yes I know battery life will suffer, but that's my choice. I want the wifi on constantly for incoming VoIP calls to the mobile.
Is there anythingout there (appart from skype, i dont use skype for voip) that will keep the connection alive in standby?
Thanks
you may simply turn the screen off and this will keep the connection. not a good solution but it works, open wmp and assign a key for 'toggle screen', then you can turn the screen off easily

Choosing WiFi over Data Connection when available - like iphone

Is there an app that chooses your preferred Wifi connection when it's available, like at home, over your Data connection? I know the 3G iPhone has something like this and i'd like to have that happen on my HTC TyTn running CRCs 13.0 Windows 6.1.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

i don't want all that other stuff that they offer - just the automatic detection of my home WiFi and connection to it - disconnecting my Data connection

I did say 'spb phone suite'
Edit, not sure if it can be 'automated' you need to select a profile.
Mine works without having Phone suite installed.
When I'm at home I activate my Wifi - open activesync and sync my info. When done I simply close my wifi connection. When I'm on the road I just open activesync and it automatically opens my defauld data connection to sync via GSM / 3G. The process works simply enough.

I don't like the manual part of how WM uses available Data connections. It should be able to
1. Power on and Connect to a registered WiFi accesspoint when available
2. Connect via GRPS/UMTS/HSDPA... when no registered WiFi AP is present and power off WiFi to save battery power
Nokia phones with S60 (not FP2) operating system do support this function.

I have mine set to turn off the wifi if no network is connected in two minutes (wireless network, power settings). Sounds like you want something that will automatically turn on wifi every time you activate your device, instead of manually choosing to turn on wifi.
Before I had the wifi set to turn off, I found that was a pain in the proverbial, as it kept telling me about networks it found that I wasn't interested in connecting to!

WLAN turns on automagically

Hi!
I switched off WLAN through the Comm Manager, but every once in a while it turns on automatically. I want to control this myself, so how do I turn off this behavior?

If you have an old(er) version of WMWifiRouter it's known to do this.

Settings, connections, wifi (untick turn on wifi)
You now control Wifi only using comm manager.
@samsat: the Comm Manager and the Settings one aren't the same? They sure as h*ll look the same...
Well, turned it off through the settings page, now on with CM. Will try if it sticks now. Thanks!
I'm having this same problem... After I disable Wifi, it turns itself back on 5 seconds later.
Obviously some program is doing this, but I can't figure out which one it is.
I have EnergyROM Leo 21885 + 4.49.25.57 Radio, and the only other program that I have installed is AgePhone (and I experience the problem even when AgePhone is not running).
Anyone have any thoughts as to what program might be causing this behavior?
I'm running into conflicts when connected both to Wifi and 3G at the same time, AgePhone is not able to connect to my SIP server, NAT is getting blocked.
Alternatively, is there a way to disable the connection (3G & Edge) to my tmobile and just use wifi? I'd like to have the ability to quickly enable/disable the wifi and tmobile connections so that they don't run concurrently and cause problems for AgePhone.
Thanks!

Pro 2 and WIFI problems

Hi,
I just bought one and its great.
i have some issues with the WIFI connection.
I would like it to ONLY use WIFI at home and not some 3g or GPRS cause it takes money and a already have a wifi connection, why not use it ?
1. Can someone tell me how or what program to use to set up in the phone to use ONLY WIFI connection ?
2. Is it possible to connect to WIFI whenever like say the weather app wants to update and then close the wifi for itself to save some battery ?'
Or do i have to keep the WIFI on, all day ?
Thanks for your help
Look for NoData from Modaco.
You can disable the providers internet access.
Wifi will still be available.
The programs will use any connection possible, so if Wifi is the only connection, they'll use that connection.
Wifi is also the preferred connection when both are accessable.
To close the wifi you'll have to do this manually I'm afraid.
in wifi settings you can change power save mode to minimize power consumption.
G-Profile can help you. Depending on the location or hour of day it can switch between 3g and wifi. It has a ton of options.
Check it out.

WIFI Unsecure connections

Hey all, I was doing some digging in the Registry for a couple of changes I wanted to make but wanted to know if there is a way for one more.
I made the change in the registry to keep wifi on even on standby, and I made the change to autoconnect (When you are back within range of your connection), but what I cant find is the setting, that if your let's say at Dunkin Donuts, or Starbucks or when your at the airport where its an unsecured connection, that it will automatically connect you, I thought at first the EnableAutoConnect was for that but then realized it was only for connections already established and when you are back in range it will connect.
Anyone know if what I'm asking exists in the Registry?
*Bump*
Anyone?
Hello AngelDeath,
I find with my Touch Pro 2 (and old HTC Hermes) and most pdas that wifi drains the battery very quickly so I have never have it running that long.
I have seen an app that is suppost to do what you want, it is called "Easy wifi Radar"
http://www.makayama.com/easywifiradar.html
I prefer to use wififofum that is free and turn on when want to search for free wifi, download mail manually and then disconnect saving battery
