Connectivity VPN problems with WM6 - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

I have been testing most of the WM6 version but impossible to stablish a connection using VPN. I create it but Activesync doesn't connect it. Do you have some problems?

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking but if you are trying to establish a VPN connection to a server through an activesync connection then it isn't a WM6 issue, WM5 won't allow a VPN connection through activesync either.
WM6's VPN does work, you'll need to connect through a wifi or 3G/GPRS connection to use a VPN as activesync won't allow VPN passthrough.

I didn't explain correctly, sorry. Previously I define at My ISP the gprs connection of my operator, and in My Work Network only the vpn details. Just when activate activesync, the system connect first to the isp and later the vpn.
did you check on wm6 with a vpn connection? what steps to define please?

To use your VPN you'll have to disconnect from activesync and use either your GPRS connection or a wifi connection to connect to your VPN server.
The exceptions only work for specific WM application, for 3rd party applications and (inc the Remote Desktop Mobile app) you'll have to connect manually by navigatinging to your work's settings VPN tab and selecting Connect.

I mentioned Activesync because my corporate mail, based on exchange, uses VPN to autent.

Sorry wasn't quite sure how you were connecting, think I have the icture now.
IT sounds as though your VPN is working okay if You get a connection to GPRS followed by VPN connection.
In that case does your exchange server require SSL for the activesync connection?
If it does then you'll need to use the same name within your activesync configuration as the name entered on the SSL certificate.
Could you please give some more details such as any errors that are generated by activesync and also confirm that you do get a VPN connection during the connection process.

VPN via GPRS with PPTP or IPsec

I am trying the obviously impossible thing:
Connecting my BA (WM 2003 PE) via GPRS (Vodafone Germany) with an exchange server behind a Cisco pix 515e firewall to synchronize my Outlook data.
1. IPsec
Tried all available clients like Antha, Movian and others. No connection is possible with my PDA although a connection with my laptop via a cisco VPN client is possible without any problems. The connection always stucks
with negotiating the security parameters.
2. PPTP
Establishing a VPN tunnel will work over the APN corporate.vodafone.de. But after trying to connect to the exchange server via IE no password login window appears when I am entering the server's IP. After some time IE says "page cannot be found".
Questions:
Is there any workaround available which describes how to connect a WM 2003 PDA via VPN and GPRS to an exchange server ?
Any experiences with Vodafone GPRS and VPN ? Does the APN web.vodafone.de also work for VPN ? Unfotunately Vodafone itself doesn't know !
Any further hints for my problems ?
im using Apani VPN to connect to a Cisco concentrator.
Its the only client I could get to work reliably -& theres a free trial version.

BUG? in ActiveSync configuration on WM6?

When configuring Activesync, you would choose which connection for it to use to sync with exchange server and in the WM5 I would pick My ISP but on the WM6 "Internet" is the only options in the drop down menu.
Shouldn't it be listing all avaiable connections you have added in the Connection settings?
Maybe a bug? or is there a setting where I select connection type for "Internet" on WM6?
Thanks
Bill
In the connections dialogue you select what My ISP (or whatever you use, i.e mine is 'O2') connects to, which is usually the internet.
When you set activesync to connect via the internet it will use ANY connection which does just that. So if you are connected via the USB to your pc it will connect to the internet through that. If you are disconnected from your PC it will use your GPRS instead.
I dont think it is a 'bug' really. Does your activesync work as desired?

Yeah Activesync seem to be working fine but in WM5 it wouldn't work with connections that uses proxy and it would allow me to select a connection in the drop down menu that doesn't have proxy setting ie "My ISP"
Perhaps the new Activesync now works with proxy.
As far I can tell it's working fine.
Mine does not - I have to manually use activesync to get mail from the Exchange Server. Push does not seem to work. There is another thread on this here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297781
It is really annoying me at the moment as I canot find a workaround.
It seems that activesync can find the GPRS when I do a manual Sync, but has a warning that i do not have a cellular internet connection. Odd. I originally used the Orange .cab files to set up the connections, I then deleted them and recreated the connection manually which made no difference.
Any ideas would be welcome!
I have a similar problem. I'm not sure if it's the same or not. Help would be appreciated...
When my Hermes is roaming everything in hunky-dory, GPRS, HSDPA, Push-Email... all is running smooth. BUT...
When I Activesync (I have "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop" unchecked - as advised in this thread), the hermes initially drops any wireless connections, then, instead of using the PC's broadband (as per WM5 & Activesync 4.2) to sync with Exchange it tries to dial up to GPRS again. Sync ultimately fails with error code 85020006. This webpage says the problem is "The Connection Manager could not find a path to the destination.
- OR -
Unable to connect. Verify your dialup or proxy settings are correct, and try again"
This is annoying as I have SPB Insight installed which I want to use the PC's connection to update all the channels, as well as sync with Exchange.
EDIT: I tried this before among other things and it didn't work but now it seems to be working OK. The only thing I can think that has fixed it is changing "This computer is connected to:" The Internet
well i also have WM 6 installed on my device and when i configured AS to sync with mail2web exchange server it stopped accessing the Internet when connected to the PC via USB/ AS.... whenever i try to access the Internet when the device is cradled the device opens the GPRS connection and connects to the net.... how do i get AS to connect to the net when cradled and not GPRS... and the exchange sync gives an error MSG 85020006...
someone please help me.... its really very frustrating not being able to connect to the net when connected via USB/ AS...
thank u

VPN and Remote Desktop

Hi Guys,
either I dont know how to search or there is no info on VPN on the forum(I probably dont know how to search) In any case. I need assistance. How do I setup a VPN on my TyTn running WM6 and also how do I get remote desktop client? I am sure this was around previously. Did MS remove it from WM6? Or was it HTC? It this is the case.. how can one get it back?
thanks!
here's remote desktop. How do you use it? I don't know how to set it up.
thanks!!!!
now for VPN....
cheers!
The remote desktop client is available in several places in this forum for download.
To set up a VPN:
add a new VPN server connection
enter the name / ip of the server you want to connect to
select the vpn type -- ipsec or pptp
next
enter your user name and password
finish
The only way I have found to connect to the von is to goto
Start-Settings-connections-connections-edit my vpn servers- -- tap & hold MY VPN
select connect
you must be using a plan that assigns you a public IP (not WAP)
hope this helps

Thanks cmccarter, done it but how will I know I am connected.. It does not say connected anywhere that I can see and when clicking/hold on the item it gives me the option to connect again, not disconnect as I would have thought The other thing is terminal server does not connect. It connects fine on USB. VPN/Remote desktop connects fine using normal internet on pc from outside the network. So I believe the network settings are fine.. How would I know though if I am on WAP or get an IP. Also ow would I know if the VPN is connected?
thanks

i also have struggled getting rdp to work over a vpn, in particular over 3+/hsdpa
the only i found in wm5 was to add the vpn connect to the exceptions list of the connection manager, so that it didnt disconnect the vpn whem connecting the rdp.
this occurs more when u use an ip address to connect to a work intranet.
suppose if u use the dns name of the machine and not the ip address then it isnt that much of an issue. in wm5 when u put the ip address in it assumes a an internet rather than intranet connection so it disconnects the vpn to look for the ip over the internet
putting the ip into exceptions forced wm5 to not disconnect it when rdp was looking for it.
i cudnt get it to work this way in wm6 so i am also looking for an answer on this.
rdp to my servers when they have crashed and i am on the road wud b wonderful....
Hi,
I've a similar problem.
I use a VPN-1 SecuRemote that normally connect my PC directly to the company network.
Well, using the share modem tool, I'm not able to reach the gateway.
the share modem system give me a private IP that establish a connection between PC and TYTN.
This connection use the Tytn like a gateway to navigate in internet.
Someone know to solve this issue?
Tanks a lot
if i select start the vpn connection, nothing happens - and i can`t ping the IP`s in the VPN. so i think the vpn ist not open - OR the routing entrie is missing....
is there some shiny "pptp - standalone" client?
greets, Nik
for some reason i dont think the vpn option works over 3g/hsdpa, atleast not on my device using t-mob web and walk.
if i connect the vpn when using wifi it connects and everything is fine, if i try and connect when i'm already running a 3g connection it doesn't work.
i dont think the radio stack is capible of handling a 3g connection and a vpn connection. we might need to go down the route of getting a seprate wm vpn client.

activesync is closing existing vpn connection instead of using vpn

i have a strange behavior of my hermes.
in the "configure server" settings i had to change the server name from "ds-exchange" to "ds-exchange.<our domainname>.ad".
when syncing it only establishes the isp connection whereas before it also established the vpn connection.
when establishing the vpn connection manually active sync is closing the vpn connection and only uses the isp connection.
when setting back the server name to "ds-exchange" it works well but could not reach the server.
any ideas?

VPN problem with Desire

I have Desire. Try to create VPN connection to my work net over 3g, GPRS or Wi-Fi. Tunnel creation is succesful. It's working perfect for 15-20 seconds then nothing. No any warnings in Phone. VPN Server says it's OK. But net resources and RDP connections are unavailable. I'm using IPsec/PP2P protocol. Server with Win2k.
Also try to connect to another VPN server (router). Same result in such different situations
Same problem here. Using hideipvpn.com service. No internet connection when connected to vpn
up? Somebody help pls
Old WinMo works excellent but my new Android doesn't want
