Hi all
I got a O2 orbit. It is ok for everything, but Valid time in QuickGps was not updated when i connected to PC or WIFI, it updated only Download Time. I tried to many time by installed Copilot6 first or after...as the same results. Another point, I did the hard-reset to be back manufature system, Quickgps give me the same result. What is the problem with O2 QuickGPS? (normally, QuickGPS is always updated itself when it is connected to internet connection)
......Help me......
thanks all to read and help me to get a solution

Hi
i have the same problem.
I can connect and download, The download time is updated but the vald time shows EXPIRED.
i have had to disable the reminder..
hi
i have just set the date on my Orbit to the 7th december and quick GPS downloaded and showed 3 days on the valid time..
reset to correct date ran QuickGPS and valid time has reverted to EXPIRED.
Yesssss..indeed
......... WHY? it works when the date is not real......why?
thanks.....
Yep,l I have the same problem, I turned the notification off until I find a solution.
Have you installed the TomTom desktop on your pc? If not do it and then put in your tomtom sign-in and password. It then opens everytime you connect your Artemis
Snap - same expired message (and over enthusiastic startup of Copilot).
So, not having read this thread I've already done a hard reset on my XDA Orbit on the basis that there was an error in the ROM. (I sought a ROM download in another thread)
but... At the moment I have not loaded Copilot... and I'm assuming it's not just diue to that!
Also, based on the feedback others are giving (not TomTom's advice) I'm probably going to get TomTom6 and ditch Copilot. Probably flash and copy flash onto my 2gb mini sd.
HI
well HAPPY NEW YEAR just fired Orbit up to go out for a hike and QuickGPS now functions correctly can only think there must of been an issue ith the received data. i guess time will tell.
FYI i've been for a small hike using Memory map on the Orbit, been there done it and the Orbit still shows 50% batery left so i have left the application running to see how long i can get with the GPS running alongside memory map very impressed so far..
i'll post a note how long it lasts..
Hi
Well with memory map running and backlight set to dim after 3 minutes i received low battery warning 10% left at 7 hours 45 minutes. device switched off after approx 8 hours and 15 minutes.

My QuickGPS wasnt working either so I turned notification off. But got TTNAV6 working today, went to check QuickGPS for first lock on and it had already updated earlier today! Maybe it was an issue with HTC's / TomTom's server. Anyway appears to be working now.

topic title kinda gives you an idea of what im on about, no? ill explane...
its looks good, verry good in black (O2 XDAIIs) but it dont work propperly.
now im shure the HW is good, but the crap Microsoft put on there is a big let down.
im no expert on SW, im just a plane old end user and im not happy
how can the XDAII work 100% (for me) but the XDAIIs not ?
for example. i had tomtom3 on the xda2 for months, not one, i say not one problem.
but after finaly getting it to run on the xda2s it worked ONCE but no more.
the timer comes up for a few seconds then tomtom flashes up at the title bar
then "puff" its gone ?
goto "running programs" in the memory manager thingy and its not there.
the xda2s slows down nealy ALL the time to a crawl so much so that
i lost count of the resets i have done in the 2 days i had it for.
i even had to do a hard reset this morning thinking that may help.
sorry guys i think i will give it a few more days (ive got 14 home aprovel) then i will send it back.
maybe whate for the xda3 (will it have wifi?)
the MAIN reason i got the xda2s was the WIFI, i would get a SD, WIFI card but i keep my tomtom maps on the SD card so i would need
a SD card WiFi with memory on it :S
is there such a thing, or better still a GPS/WIFI/MEMORY SD card ?
(pushing it there i think lol)
oh well, the looking forward to the XDA2s was better than haveing it (so far)

Interesting. I was getting this exact problem on my XDA II when I first tried to use it a couple of days ago. Worked fine in the house as I was playing with it (new toy ) but as soon as we went out in the car it stopped with the same symptoms you describe.
In the end I hard-reset my XDA II and it seems to be fine now.
The first time I installed the TomTom software I used the default (non Win SE) disk, but second time I used the 'Update' disc. Perhaps the update disc is better for Win2k Phone Edition devices...
i'm new to the pocket pc arena and was looking forward to *using* my new xda iis... i'm now *working* with my xda iis, trying to make it reliable and actually useful.
when i first got it, it ran a movie for 2.5 hours perfectly while on my train journey, syncronised my files perfectly, except it refuses to backup my text messages (a feature, not a bug apparently) and redraws the interface and programs very very s l o w l y.
i was appalled that they'd even release this half-finshed software. And am now looking for a newer/better/faster ROM... Might as well use a pencil and paper.
Chaps/Ladies (do we have any?!),
I've been using TT5 for a couple of weeks now, and have a strange problem! Every now and then, randomly, TT5 will just exit whilst navigating. I drove 170 miles yesterday and it closed itself four times, the phone was off on three of the four occasions, as was wifi and BT.
I've also had it freeze once or twice. The display just stops updating, though I can still tap the screen and exit cleanly. This used to happen more frequently with TT3.
I've only run TT5 on the new 1.40 ROM.
Anyone else suffering?
TIA
Dan

Argh! Another quirk. I think I'm gonna sell my XDA2s on Ebay, and buy a map, a diary, and a Nokia 1110.
I use TT5 daily & have never had a problem with it exiting. The display occasionally freezes, butI think I can put this down to when the traffic info is being updated because it only happens occasionally & it unfreezes after about 30 seconds or so

Are you on the same ROM as us, 1.40? I don't use TomTom Traffic, so that can't be related to my problem.

I have a question and it's off topic (sorry guys) Can you use TomTom 5 for just driving directions? Do you need to have the GPS unit?

My experience is that TomTom 5 will not start calculating a route without a valid GPS device attached - I'm just going to verify that though

Well that shows how much I know about TomTom 5 . It is definitely possible to generate driving instructions without a GPS device attached 8) .
Go into the "Advanced Planning" option and simply pick your start and end points. You will then have a route that you can display as text, images etc, or even "demo" the route i.e. simulate it at speeds from 10% to 500% of "real time"

Thanks Weasel. I'll go ahead and load TomTom5 before my GPS arrives.
I have an XDA IIs with TT3, after i first installed it noticed it would crash randomly, which became really really annoying. After messing around with settings and 3rd-party software, i got nowhere. So I removed the **** O2 software that comes with the IIs, low and behold no more crashing.
Is this also the case for TT5, I would like to know before upgrading?
Don't really want to have to turn off the POI's to make it work.
This is all pretty interesting. I'm running a 1.40 O2 ROM and TomTom is not-as-stable-as-it-could-be. I'm going to do some more qualitative analysis to try and work out which of the crappy O2 software is the culprit - or if it's TomTom itself.
We've got quite a few XDAIIs here and both of the ones with TomTom are flakey. More details to follow...
[edit] Should have said - this is TomTom Navigator 5, with both bluetooth and wired GPS receivers.
AFAIK, the O2 Active software produces a memory leak. There are suggestions that TTN5 also produces a memory leak on 640x480 VGA devices. Perhaps the two are interacting? (Yes I know the XDA2s isn't VGA). Try monitoring available RAM while TTN5 is running. If it constantly reduces it will reach a point where the s/w crashes.
Where are we?
@ all:
Anyone know a solution to this problem? Apparently we need to use the POI.dat file from earlier installations, i.e. 4 or 3 and it will only crash 1% of the time. Until there is a patch for this we will have to settle for this solution it seems.
BTW, does anyone happen to have the POI.dat file for the Benelux map, version 3 or 4? I seem to have "misplaced" my cd with the map on it, anyone can help a brutha out? PM me?
Cheers in advance!
I've switched off POI ( that's NP for dutch users ) so it's stable now.
Any word on the arrival of a patch for this problem?

Can you provide me with the above link that works please?
Hi again all. today I got my M2000 (BA) for my M1000 (Himalaya) which broke last week. When I installed the TomTom software from the CD - I got a message on screen advising that the software was written for a previous version of Windows Media and there may be trouble displaying. Nice to get a warning of a problem instead of it just happening, and in this case they were right. After between 5 and 10 mins of navigation TomTom software just shuts itself down.
So can anyone help me get this stable or should I just cut my losses now and send it back to the dealer - I have 7 days to return with no obligation.
Seriously thinking of giving up on HTC technologies - If anyone can restore my faith, it would be appreciated.
Should run fine I got the same message, ignored it and had no problems. Now my Wizard that was another matter
That's what I hoped would happen - but a dozen times now TomTom has closed itself down after 5-10 mins navigation. Never had this problem on the M1000.
Progress Through Technology - excellent
Have you got the 5.21 update from the TomTom website (http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=1&FID=3361)?
I've got a M2000 with TomTom and it works perfectly - never had a problem with it (other than when I was running WM5, now back on WM2003).
What speed card you using sometimes that can be a problem. If it runs for 10 Mins sounds like a card issue
First of all download the upgrade to TTN5,21 if this has no change to the problems have a look at what is causing this, it could be the Orange customer interface (all the crap software the suppliers think you need), have a dig around on this site as to how to get rid of it, O2 is just as bad! - I found ditching the customisation (O2 in my case) turned an expensive paperweight into a very good usable phone including sat nav, you need TT5,1 or higher to use with this device - otherwise you can't enter postcodes without using the inbuilt slide out unit - Mike
Is there any way to speed things up? Takes a couple of minutes or so in my car. Quick gps doesn't seem to help. I've only had the MDAC3 since june. Does it need a hard reset?

Try without quick GPS and see what it is like. I have a TomTom GPS Bluetooth dongle and that sometimes takes about 10 minutes to get a fix.

Unlikley to be anything to do with needing a hard reset. Most likely not getting a good signal where it is mounted.
Try re-positioning it to a more open position in the car.

My Garmin takes approx. 1 minute from a cold start but that is using an external aerial.
My Orbit takes less than 30 seconds outside the car but a few seconds longer inside the car (mounted about 15cm from the heated screen)
Get a lock before you start moving.
Stationary with good sky visibility and updated quick GPS should only be about 30 seconds, a minute if you've moved considerably from the last location GPS was used.
Alter your routine.
Get in car, place artemis in cradle, turn on, start Tomtom.
THEN get comfy, seatbelt, CD selection etc, by the time your starting the car up, Tomtom should be locked.
Also make sure software is up to date, for Tomtom thats version 6.03, I don't know about Garmin, igo etc
Thanks for the replies.
I was in a friends car recently, she was using her own pda. I can't remember what is was, not an xda product I don't think, and it had a flap lifted to allow the built in gps receiver to work. Not only did she get a fix in about 30 seconds, but she got it on the move. Her software was not one of the big names and I can't remember what it's called. I had my MDAC3 on me and while in the car I loaded tomtom. On the way to our destination it got a fix after a few minutes. On the way back, couldn't get a fix for the whole journey.
Anyway, just now I stood outside my house for about 3 or 4 minutes and tomtom wasn't finding a signal. I went inside, downloaded the latest quick gps, went outside and it got a fix in a minute and 3/4. Unloaded tomtom and reloaded it and it then got a fix within a few seconds. I suspect in an hour or so it'll take around 2 minutes again. I guess quick gps does work after all. So it looks like if I load tomtom from cold, it's always gonna take around 2 minutes. Not terrible, but just wanted it quicker.
One other thing, someone mentioned the dopod rom on another forum, and I quote:
"Has anyone else noticed that the MDACIII takes an outrageously long time to get a first fix?
Well here's something interesting... I reflashed the missus' MDACIII using the latest Dopod ROM (which is great anyway), after using imei-check's SIM / CID unlocker. After doing so, in testing so far, it gets it's first fix a LOT faster!
I'll test more over the next few days, but this could suggest a problem in the T-Mo ROM?"
Here's the thread. I posted in it at the end but noone responded yet.
http://www.modaco.com/MDACIII-long-time-fix-t251248.html
I wonder if this dopod rom makes a difference?
Different quality
I have had a HTC P3300 with TomTom Navigator 6.030.0 for 8 month and it would take between 8-30 sek. to get a signal (newer more) nomather if it was outside, in a car, or even in most houses.
I Just bought a new P3300 a few days ago.. and i had to get it switched 3 times becouse the first 2 was so terrible slow to get a signal??? - now i finally have a good one again but i´m thinking that maybe the quality from HTC is very different??
* by the way, my Quick GPS is allways updatet because it does so automaticly when i sync.
Hi there,
I recently bought my HTC P3300 few weeks ago. Considering this is my first pda with gps, i am disappointed that others are enjoying quick gps fix.
My unit takes about 2.5 to 5 mins to get a fix from cold start. A warm start within 4 hrs yields a fix within 30 secs. It gets very annoying especially when i am trying to demonstrate the gps feature to my friends..and they have to wait about 4-5 mins to see the dam thing work.
I download QuickGPS data twice a day and even tried deleting the 2 keys files it downloads and it makes no difference!!.
When i do get a fix, i usually get connected to min 5 sats and on avg get about 6 or 7 sats. So i think that proves my unit has clear line of sight without much obstructions/interferences.
In visualgps, within 30 secs it sees 3 sats. most of the time, but its the fix it that take ages.
EDIT: When ones shakes the P3300 vigorously, do you guys hear some loose piece inside the casing moving about making noise?
Should i return my device back ( although i am out of 7 days exchange period)? Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike
Btw, I use Tomtom 6.03 with B&B V3.7 cooked rom.

Hmm, so it seems I may have a bit of a duff one? I'm not sure I can get mine switched over now, it was an upgrade with T Mobile and that was weeks ago.
How do you configure the artemis to do automatic quickgps updates when synching? I was watching the quickgps screen when I connected it to my pc and nothing happened until I manually clicked download. Also, when it's connected to my pc, does quickgps download from my cable internet connection or does it use my gprs service?

Quick GPS lost after B&B v4 update (Artemis)?
My quick GPS seems to have disappeared since I uploaded the otherwise brilliant B&B ROM upgrade. Does anyone have a solution for this? I'm reluctant to flash back to O2's own ROM but is it possible to update selectively from the O2 ROM? Or can I download Quick GPS from somewhere?

Hi!
In my Artemis is annoying problem. Navigator 6.03 stops opening, when "the hands" are on the display. This happens about three to four times a week.
I have to make a soft reset after that. (I use TomTom daily.)
The second symptom, which probably comes from above, is that I can not make a phone call. All things seem to be OK, but I can not receive or make a phone call. (I give pin -code and the phone shows good fieldstrength.)
I have Vanilla 1.0 in my phone.
Please, help me. This is the only problem, what I have with Vanilla 1.0
"PS. I think I found the reason. See below!"
I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago (I'm using vanilla 2.01), but it was not once a day, but everytime I tried to use it.
I solved it taking the TomTom files from a backup that I had from my microSD, and overwriting the ones that I had at that moment.
Since then no problems whatsoever.
Hope it helps.

Did you make a backup copy of all in microSD, formatted the microSD and put all back?
I just copied the files from the microSD backup that had to do with TomTom (f.e. Program Files/Navigator), and put them into my microSD overwriting the ones that I had at that moment.
It seems that some file was corrupted, and making this solved the problem.

Hi,
there is an official update specifically for the Artemis / P3300. If I'm right it is version 6.2. The freeze of earlier versions is a known issue. Get yourself an account on mytomtom.com and look for updates. You will find version 6.2 there.

The phone was shut down during the night. I opened it and started TomTom. All went OK. I shut TomTom and wrote sms -message. The writing was quite sticky. Artemis did not send the message, because it was jammed.

You dont need to delete POIs. Just disable them from displaying when youre running Tomtom.
Change Preferernces > Enable/Disable POIs
then untick everything.
TomTom used to crash on a regular basis on my Artemis because I had it overclocked to 286MHz and when it was plugged in to the car charger the battery was getting very hot so it would freeze then reset after 5 minutes or so. Very annoying but I now have to restore the original clock speed each time I use TomTom, this may well be the issue you're having?
Change your SD... I had freezing problem with SD and microSD on both 9100 and P3300. After using new hight quality cards, no more problem.
Probly I found the reason
I think I found the reason for my problem, when TomTom freezed, when loading it.
I had enAlarmPPC v.3.3.1 -program, which caused that. I removed the program, and I have had that problem any more.
Now every time, when I change the time, I got an error message: "Cannot execute\Storage card\Program files\enAlarmPPC3.3.1\enAlarmPPC.exe"
I can not get rid of that message. I have souhgt it in the registry, but there are no mention of that.
Does anybody know this problem?
PS. I got a little program, which took away that error message. I could find it here: http://www.maik-wiege.de/en/FAQ/enalarmppc/uninstall.html
I've had just the same problem with Tomtom and had to keep restarting my PDA to get Tomtom working again.
Then I realised that whenever it ist stuck with the "hands" in the bottom corner but won't display tomtom screen, there is a "notification" waiting to be displayed.
Once you've tapped on the "Notification" text at the bottom left of the screen to clear all the notifications, then Tomtom will display itself again - without rebooting the PDA....
