hi all
im new to this forum. and im thinking of buying an mda pro (aka htc universal) however i would like to have an external HD attached to it
so my question is:
could i use my creative zen touch 20gb mp3 player (like ipod) to connect with the mda pro if i were to have the cable for it?
the zen touch is an MTP (media tranfer protocol) device and WMP10Mobile also supports MTP..
i tried the search but found nothing relevant
any help is appreciated
In a word, No.
Sorry you can't do what you want to. The Universal would need a USB Host controller, which it does not have. You would need to rewire the motherboard and add some software to get this. So you can forget that until you can find a SD USB Host controller, of which there are zero.
Closest you can come is adding a Wi-Fi hard drive, as of now.
Sorry
where I can find wifi hard drive?

Try it and let us know if it works...
if you read exactly... its ONLY for old Toshiba PPCs and they have an official USB Host port 8)

Well if you can wait then look at http://www.edslab.com/products.htm
if you need it now then look at http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=12&l2=44&l3=0&model=460&modelmenu=1

Lol, thats one of the stupidest things I have read on a forum.
There is definately more to USB host that software. Why else would most PPCs not have USB host as a feature, and why would USB host be a big mention when a device with it is released
well.. actually..
I'm an owner of both the qtek 9000 and the Pocket LOOX 720 (Fujitsu-siemens branded)
The loox hardware and the qtek are almost identical with the difference that the qtek has phone abbilities, and the loox dosen't. However, the loox does have officiall USB-host-features. (both have VGA, cam, 520 mhz, ear-speaker and both are made by HTC)
When you look at the registry and the USB drivers used, they are almost the same, but with the usbmsc.dll added on the loox.
And.. since the usb-host feature is in the
PXA27X processor and not an external chip, the only reason why the universal not should have usb-host features is if they changed something in the wireing from the processor core...
I would love to tryout and see if I get this to work, but I can't seem to be able to copy that dll from the loox. And since I'm on vacation in thailand, my tools is abit limited.
Does anybody know if there is an easy way of copying a dll-file which is in ROM and in use?
best regards
// LOMF
(pardon my typos, It's 40 degrees celsius in here... and for a swede like me, that's very hot)
try to use the internal file manager to copy the file. You will get better results than with resco. You also need the correct registry settings for this to (eventualy) work.

I don't thinks calvin42 is posting misinformation. He just know thinks better than you. This driver have been developped by deje a few years ago. They were most of the time in a beta stage, and working only on the toshiba, until deje work was bought by a hard disk maker, selling the driver with the hard disk. This kind of stopped the project. The drivers you can still find are only the beta version, and the final version ahs to be bought either with a HD, or for a few dollars.
Back to our subject, you should understand WM5 has a fairly different way of mapping the hardware than WM2003, so they are very remote chances for a WM2003 driver to work on WM5, furthermore for a WM2002 driver.
Oh! and BTW, Usb host is a feature of the processor. It can be disabled by the manufacturer. So yes, there is a USB host port.
You mean qtek9000 and others DO HAVE usb host but disabled??
It looks weird.. why disabling such important feature?
the intel bulverde has usb host. Hardware manufactured decide to support it or not. They heve their how reason, and this is probably not for pissing us up. I guess this feature is not driving the market.
What about using the SD interface as a connector for a drive? It's SD/IO isn't it? A friend has just got a 4gb PSP drive that connects through the memory stick slot on his PSP, something similar should work with the universal? (and other HTC devices that have SD and no USB

Yeah but thats converting one ATA memory card to another (similar to SD to CF adaptors). Its a passive adaptor. Converting to USB is a whole different thing.

Well, i'm confused... if bluverde has USB-Host, this means it's just disabled in JJ/9000. So we have just to enable it somehow..
Right?

wrong if it's hardware disabled.
Uhm, how's something HW disabled in ppc?
In normal PCs usually a jumper makes the difference. What in PPC platform? (i'm not an electronical engineer)..
Hi guys,
i just want to discuss an idea I just had.
Im using my PPC mostly at the university. And since some time i was searching for an Input device I could write with and have the written stuff in a digital form when Im finished (e.g as a pdf File). This would not just minimize my paper consumption it would have some other benefits too (easy sharing etc.). Now, all the devices i`ve found use the mini USB Plug of an PPC. Since the Artemis is not capable acting as a USB Host these solutions do not work. I added a picture of such a device for better illustration.
Now the idea:
Yesterday a hack has been presented on www.hackaday.com (the direct link is below) to use a WiiMote (is a Bluetooth Device) as an Input device for an electronic Chalk-Board. Now this is an very impressive hack indeed. But could it be possible to use this particular hack in a small version for PPC`s to let the WiiMote work together with the Artemis (or any other Bluetooth equiped PPC) as an "electronic Paper" device. Just for your imagination:
- connect wiimote to Artemis then use an SMD IR Equiped Stylus to write on a paper
Im no good in coding so this is off for me... But maybe soemone could give a statement on if this can be done. I mean the software for Desktop Pcs does exist (follow the links on hakaday.com) they have "just" to be rewritten for WM6 PPCs.
Link to www.hackaday.com:
http://www.hackaday.com/2007/12/09/wiimote-projector-whiteboard/
Sorry for my bad english i hope you guys understand what I was trying to explain. Here is the picture of an conventional "electronic paper" system (found on www.pearl.de)
Regards
Jabami
I bought a Wiimote this week and a LED-array to do exactly that but for a desktop computer instead of a ppc. I've done some research on that topic and found no solution yet. Seems as if nobody is interested enough that has the knowledge and skills for porting or recompiling it for ppc.
Of course it's not really a cheap solution but you could buy a tablet pc. I bought one for my studies and I can write down my stuff and share it later on my website in "hand-written" format as mhtml, pdf or whatever. I got a Compaq TC1000, this model and the TC1100 are the only I'm aware of that can be used as slate and convertible tablet pcs at the same time. I installed my bluetooth stick on the TC1000 and it was too slow for the wiimote, or maybe the bluetooth stick, but I doubt that.
There are some reasons why I wouldn't use the wiimote for writing at university:
-As soon as the wiimote moves you have to calibrate again
-You need a good spot for it so it can see you hand all the time
-Probably needs 800 "Pentium" Mhz or more to work perfectly
In the videos I saw at johnnylee.net the wiimote was mounted over the guy that wrote on his e-paper. If you are not sitting in the middle of a room with hundreds of students then this might be a solution.
All the things you said are true, plus theres is one thing lee mentiones at the end of his YouTube Video. Its about the resolution you get. So all in all the conclusion is:
using the WiiMote as an electronic paper device will not work due to resolution restrictions.
Well but maybe there is some other way to tweak an Input device into the Bluetooth Interface of the Artemis....
Best regards
Jabami
Hi Guys,
I would love to remote control my PC's and Laptop's with my Kaiser.
So I asked a good friend of mine (google is his name, i think you know him? ), he explained to me, there is something, but it was developed for the Diamond. No matter, i tried it out, but I just had a quarter of the screen showed on my display. And i couldn't choose anything by touching. (=> nothing was working)
Is there any software for the Kaiser, with which i am able to use my Kaisers keyboard as bluetoothkeyboard and my touchscreen like a laptop's touchpad?
And controlling my mediaplayer/winamp would be a great party-gimmick...
I hope you know something
Hupfi
There are lot of programs to remote control the PC.
I have try in deep most of then and my conclusions are:
1.- Google for "Sailing Clicker". The most versatile one. Will do all you want, but is a litte slow with my big audio collections (about 100 gB)
2.- or "1-2 Remote" by SFR software: Pretty good for WMP but also a little slow in the version I try (there is a new one but I haven got it yet)
3.- "Signal" this one is the best for Audio control. It is damned fast but his wifi connection is little instable
None of them are freeware but you will find trial versions.

Hi there,
Does anybody know if there is some software/hardware combination that entitles the HD to be used as a remote control for the home entertainment hardware like tv, dvd and so on? As these devices (at least the old-fashioned ones that I have) are controlled via IR, a piece of hardware like a BT to IR (or WiFi to IR, which would probably drain more battery from the hd) converter would be necessary, and of course a piece of correspondng software which could (at best) let you create your own user-defined control-panels for different devices... would be just great (especially as my old universal remote control is about to die).
Any suggestions or opinions?
regards jan
You need an extra device to convert BT to IR. It's not convinient...
I know that it is possible to control yor IR tv, dvd,... by using an IR diode connected to the audio jack of mobile phone and a pecial software.
If you find something like that post a link here.
I have no idea if it will work, but check this out:

Thanks, wedge, the hardware looks promising, although quite expensive... but there is still the need of the appropriate software to learn and send the correct commands and create a specific user interface...
any more suggestions?

Will it be simpler (and perhaps more economical) to just buy another universal remote control? There are so many cheap (usually made in China) universal remote controllers around nowadays.
The Blackstone Bridging option will require the purchase of the additional hardware and software which will be so much more than the simple purchase of another universal remote control appliance. Furthermore, the power consumption of the Blackstone conversion will also be significantly higher because of the additional hardware involved. And of course, the additional space and time required to set up the whole thing.

I'm not sure if I understand this line of reasoning correctly.
Other universal remote still means using IR to control devices, usually old devices which can only be controlled with infra red. Because of distance or line-of-sight, IR might not be usable, so this bridge type device comes in, so one can control this old device with one's smartphone etc.

CobaltController
Use your Sony Playstation 3 Controller (Sixaxis/Dual Shock 3) or Nintendo Wii Remote (Wiimote) as a Bluetooth Game Controller on your Windows Phone.
It's perfect for game system emulators.
Play PlaystationOne games with FpseCE, Super Nintendo games (and more) with MorphGear (HD2 version), Nintendo, Genesis, GameBoy, GameGear games (and more) with SmartGear - There are many other emulators out there and this program/driver will work for anything that accepts keyboard input.

Prerequisites:
PS3 Controller
A compatible Windows Mobile device. Check the Compatibility list. Is your device not listed? Try out CobaltController and post your results; I'll update this post.
A PS3 Controller (I don't know if non-Sony 3rd party controllers work - maybe they do, maybe they don't).
A desktop or laptop computer with a USB port to set the controller's master address.
Linux - Use sixpair - directions in this thread somewhere, search for "Ubuntu"
Windows - Use Motion in Joy, but please note that Motion in Joy uses a different MAC format (little endian vs big endian) so for example, when I run CobaltController on my Touch Pro2 it displays "BT ADDR: 00:23:76:70:6B:4D" so I enter it into Motion in Joy as 4d.6b.70.76.23.00
Wii Controller
A compatible Windows Mobile device. Check the Compatibility list. Is your device not listed? Try out CobaltController and post your results; I'll update this post. Devices with the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack can't use the Wiimote yet.
A Wii Controller.
XBOX 360 Controller
Not Going To Happen
In order to get the XBOX 360 controller to work in windows you need to purchase a wireless receiver - it doesn't use bluetooth. It needs additional hardware. So if a full desktop Windows PC can't even do it without additional hardware, I seriously doubt it will ever work for our phones. Some company could come up with an xbox 360 wireless receiver for Windows Mobile, but again, very doubtful. And since I don't even have an XBOX of any kind, I know I'm not going to be motivated enough to even try.
Initial One Time Setup for PS3 Controllers:
Setting the PS3 controller's master address to your phone's bluetooth mac address via Windows:
Download and install Motion in Joy.
Run DS3 Tool, installed in the previous step.
Click the "About" tab in DS3 Tool to see the version. If DS3 Tool is less than 0.5.0003 you will need to update.
Connect your PS3 Controller to your computer via the USB cable and wait while Windows recognizes the new device.
Click on the "BluetoothPair" tab.
In the DUALSHOCK 3 drop down list select your controller. If it says "Can't find connected(USB) Playstat":
Click "Driver Manager" directly above the drop down list
Click "Load" and wait for it to finish
Return to the "BluetoothPair" tab
Run CobaltController on your Windows Mobile device to get its BT address.
Enter that BT address into the text box directly above the DUALSHOCK 3 drop down list. Note that Motion in Joy uses a different MAC format (little endian vs big endian) so for example, a bluetooth address of "00:23:76:70:6B:4D" is entered it into Motion in Joy as "4d.6b.70.76.23.00"
Click the radio button next to this textbox to make sure that it uses the one you entered and not the one above it which is to connect your controller to your PC
Click "Pair Now"
If all went well your controller is now configured to talk to your Windows Mobile device. Go to the "Quick Start" tab and click "Disconnect".
Unplug your PS3 Controller.
As long as you don't pair your controller with any other device (like your PS3) then you never have to do this again. If you do pair the controller with a another device and wish to re-pair it with your phone again, repeat the above steps.
Widcomm Stack Specifics:
Turn on bluetooth and set it to discoverable. Thanks to ryotgz, skilty, and gorelshv for this information. I believe it is only required the first time you use CobaltController. Once you have successfully connected, BT does not have to be in discoverable mode any longer so you can change it back to invisible to save battery life.
Make sure that the checkbox is not checked where it says "Allow only devices listed in 'My Devices' to connect".
If you have never tried to connect the PS3 controller to your phone before (or at least not since the last hard reset or rom flash) it will fail to connect at first and you'll get a bunch of pop ups with PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller shown in bold asking for the pin. Keep tapping cancel as it pops up and wait for everything to stop trying to connect. After all that, try again and it should connect just fine and should always connect right away in the future without the pin prompts. There is no pin (that I know of at least) I'm bypassing security on both the PS3 and Wii connections (even though we do know the pin for the Wiimote is the host's mac backwards.)
Microsoft Stack Specifics:
TURN OFF BLUETOOTH The MS stack does not like the PS3 controller and will NOT pair with it. I ended up writing a modified version of this stack to get around this problem, but it will conflict with the real MS stack so they can't both be on at the same time.
Your phone will reboot when you disconnect the controller.
PS3 Controller Specifics:
Press the PS button to connect and then later to disconnect
Wii Controller Specifics:
Press the red Sync button to connect. Hold down the Power button to disconnect.
Common:
All 4 LEDs should flash a few times and then only the player one LED should remain lit showing it connected.
The driver stops running after you disconnect to save battery life. Run it again to reconnect. It's in Start Menu\Programs\Games
Registry Values are stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cobaltikus\CobaltController
Currently only 1 controller can be active at a time but I am exploring the ability to add more.
Once you are connected you can tap Menu > Exit to close the configuration program and your controller will remain connected, and the driver will continue to run until your controller is disconnected.
To Do: (not necessarily in this order)
Get Wiimote working on devices with the Microsoft Bluetooth stack
Figure out why this doesn't work on the TG01 and HTC Vogue and fix it
2 player support
Battery meter
Integrate LeSScro graphics
Clean up Microsoft stack code to eliminate the need to reboot
Add support for non-touch-screen devices

I didn't
I used Visual Studio 2008 + Windows Mobile 6 SDK + Widcomm SDK
I'm using L2CAP
Although the HID GUID is not defined, you can hard code the values for it and vwahlah - it works!
It runs great on my Sprint Touch Pro2 and also the HTC HD2 but should work for any Windows Mobile device with a Widcomm Bluetooth stack - again though I fully plan to tackle the M$ stack as well and also add support for the wiimote.
wow can't wait for the wii remote but even ps3 is best thing to happen to wm thanks and i look forward to testing this
Version 0.1 Available NOW!!!
v0.2 will have M$ stack support - working on it now
Request:
That would be really cool if someone would write a nice app to set the sixaxis master bluetooth address that doesn't require a pc with bluetooth and other apps. That would make my app even better - cuz I know the setup really sucks - but believe me it is worth it, especially if your phone also has TV Out.
Have you gotten it to work with Fpsece?
I've been lurking on the other BT controller thread and I must say I was very anxious to see what you guys could pull off! Great, great work!!!
same here as above, lurking in the BT Controller thread (and even in the request thread for PS3 on PPC)

It would be awsome if this could trigger some devs to make it vice versa, so that you can use your phone to control media stuff on the ps3
nice one !
can't wait to get back home to try this !!!!!!

I was looking into that a little bit and it seems completely possible - it's just a matter of devoting the time. If no one else does it first I'll probably end up doing it eventually - after this program grows more
My main goal right now as far as this is concerned is to get it working on all windows mobile phones.
good job, lets hope we can get it working with FPSECE, if thats the case i am willing to donate £5. you better get your paypal address sorted!
thanks
hi sounds nice. i will be real happy if it worked with wiimote
Awesome man! Looking forward to trying this on my HD2!

I agree. I use my PS2 to watch a lot of movies and it would be great if I could use my phone as the remote control instead of using the standard controller.
How about Morphgear?
I'm all for OSS apps so this seems only natural
Morphgear is very similar with Smartgear with the difference of being free and open for development (you can get the sources at SourceForge). And it surely could use a boost and more attention.

I don't see why it wouldn't work with FPSECE - it works with anything that accepts keyboard input - you can even text with it so long as you don't need more letters than A, B, C, D, E, F, G, O, and X, maybe I should use letters like WTFLMAO instead...
I put a link to donate in the first post http://www.cobaltikus.com
If you donate - that would be awesome - I've never received any donations before.
