Resetting the MDAIII - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi guys
On the base of my MDAIII there's two small holes - one is smaller than the other, the same as on my XDA.
The larger hole is labelled 'Reset'. This is a soft reset.
The smaller hole isn't labelled but I assume it's the 'hard reset' - it was on my XDA.
I don't seem to be able to hard reset my MDA! Is there another way?
John

The larger hole is for a soft reset. I think the smaller hole is a microphone. To hard-reset the device, press the soft-reset button at the same time as the power on/off button above the green/orange/red LED.

Sticky button assignments after soft reset

Hello,
I have an Alpine and, as most other owners also seem to do, often perform a soft reset. How can I set up the buttons so that they don't reset to the default assignments after the soft reset? I'm left-handed and I'm constantly starting the camera by accident if I don't re-assign that button.
Thanks in advance,
Tim

Soft and hard reset without stylus

Hello!
Can I do soft or hard reset without stylus and using normal pen?
if it fits in the hole you can use what you want , it doesnt have to be a stylus
@scousemartin
are you talking about the topic OR your avatar pic? wahaha... j/k
@gatrun
scousemartin is right. soft-reset is just a button inside the BA that is accessible only through the soft-reset hole.

There are a few theads about this issue already discussed on Hermes forum. Go search there, there are a few solutions, the cause has been narrowed down to the d-pad pc-board.
Hard Reset will do the trick
You need to hard reset the device. Shutdown the PDA completely. Than keep pressing simulteneously both upper buttons on the action button & press the reset hole with the help of the stylus.

Use Stylus for soft reset With Back Cover ON

A small nail chucked into drill did the trick.

Tricky, do you need to reset your device that much?
I hardly have to reset and using software solution to do so.
IMO, it'd be pretty useful for me. I flash via bootloader one or two times a week, I hard reset via keypress method one or two times a week, and I run lots of beta/unstable software which can freeze my device. I've actually been meaning to do this for a while, but admittedly I've been kind of scared about messing up.
@OP: Did you measure before you drilled, or did you just estimate?
How to do a Hard reset
Can you tell me how to do a Hard reset please? I remember reading it somewhere (which I can no longer find) and it not working.
Turn off device (remove battery for a sec, then put back in)
Hold the 2 call buttons (Call and End Call)
Hold the top power button until the tri-color screen shows up
Release them all
Hit Vol Up to hard reset
If the phone is working properly (not frozen etc.) you can hard reset with Start>Settings>System>Clear Storage, same as the old Tilt, correct?
I drilled a hole in mine right after I got it, plus the clear case I picked up at the deathstar store. I look at it like this...if the hole is there, it won't crash. If the hole ISN'T there, it will crash
