I've recently upgraded to the latest available and recommended WM5 ROM and have found an odd side effect. When I power off the device using the power button on the top, the device will randomly power itself on again for no reason. I could understand it if the phone was about to receive a text or a call but nothing happens apart from it switching on? The auto shutoff will then cut in after whatever setting I have made and turn it off again, however randomly again it will turn on?
I have tried closing all the running apps to see if it is a running app which is "waking it up" with no joy. This also happens whether the device is charging (Mains power) or not.
Very random I know, but any assistance anyone may have would be greatly appreciated....
Well I had the same problem but when I upgraded to the ROM I am using now (you can see which one in my signature) I no longer have the problem.
I'm fairly sure I'm using the same ROM etc as you! Any ideas what might be wrong?
Operator Version : AKU3.2
ROM Version : 5.04.06.WWE
ROM Date : 03/02/05
Radio Version : 1.15.00
Protocol Version : 1337.45
ExtROM Version : 1.3
That is the same ROM as mine. I will have a think and get back to you. Do you have 02 Plus on your device? Do you have Voice Commander installed?
No, I couldn't get MS Voice commander to work, and no for the O2 plus stuff! I do however have a ripped version of the Today screen O2 Battery monitor. Is the 'O2 Plus' stuff you refer to the official O2 exented ROM apps etc?
Well both voice commander and 02 plus use a LOT of processor power even when they are not working and I thought if they use processor power even when they are not running they could be what is turning your device on. Also I removed both when I changed from Tu-Ma v1.3 to AKU 3.2 WM5 Helmi beta 1.3.2 and I have not had any problems. Yes 02 Plus is the today screen plugins 02 put on there devices. I can't see that the battery monitor should be to much of a problem. I will have to think over it and I will get back to you.
Hi again I have had a thought. Go into Start-Settings-Click on the System Tab-The tab Button Lock then select Lock all buttons except power button. This is all I can think of as a button may be knocked and that is what turns it on. Please let me know how you go.
I've already got that activated as it used to keep switching on in my pocket. Now even with that activated it keeps switching on by itself without anything being pressed. Any other thoughts you or anyone else has would be greatly received...
My Observation
I have the same WM5 rom, but I have radio v1.02.10. I noticed that I was having the same issue. I only seem to have this problem when I have BT truned on (the BA turns on randomly power button & other methods like xpshut) I turn of BT and the unit seems to stay off. this is strictly an informal observation on my part.
Cheers
That appears to have worked a treat Brau0303, the only thing I have left to ask.... Is it possible to get my XDA IIs to turn off BT when I turn it off and switch it back on when I switch the XDA back On??
Hey turning off the Bluetooth helped me with this problem. My phone is not turning on now. Will applying the latest Bluetooth patch even fix the problem for good and so I can leave my bluetooth on. However, I have to turn on the bluetooth whenever I want to use things instead of "it" turning on by itself.

I was wondering if anyone has a solution for my strange problem.
When switching on the unit from the power button there is a 20 second delay before the today screen shows up.
The backlight comes on initially and I get a black screen for about 20 seconds then the today screen loads.
If I swithc the unit off and on rapidly then there is no problem , but if I switch it off ( using the power button of course) and leave it for a few minutes I have to wait for the screen to boot.
Wierd eh?
Rom: 1.31.00WWE
Rom Date : 12/13/04
Radio: 1.06.00
Protocol: 1337.38
Ext Rom : 1.31.139WWE
Help please if you can , thanks to all.
I'm guessing it's just the programs you have running on Startup and that's how long it takes to boot.
I'm running PhotoContacts (with 301 contacts/photos), GPS Gate, vCard, Voice Command, MultiIE, GPRS Notify, and some other bits and bobs and I'm lucky if I get into mine in under 45 seconds. I know it's just the software loading that takes a while because if I remove all the startup files it boots up in a matter of seconds.
Take a look in \Windows\Startup there might be things in there you don't need loading on startup, but MOVE them out of there to somewhere else rather than delete incase you have to put them back later!
Oh and "Today plugins" as will also slow you down since it'll have to load each one of those and each plugin will have to "update" itself on the screen as well before the device is fully usable.
Hi , thanks for the reply!,
The device has had a hard reset and is not running anything on startup , I actually did a corporate install so I don't even have the O2 active gubbins going on.
Yet mysteriously the boot up is ages slow!!!!!
Its got me highly baffled and frustrated.... argh
Hmm I'm not really sure what to suggest. I cooked my Extended ROM / Got rid of everything O2 as fast as I can so I can't remember what the times were like on mine for starting up with O2's firmware. Sorry!
Hey Xanth , thanks for trying to help!
Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do a reflash of the rom and etc. , hope that cures it or its going to be an interesting phone call to O2.
Unless anyone else has any suggestions it seems that the flashing is my only recourse.

I upgraded to WM 6 with the repackaged version of the ROM WM6 Dopod WWE 3.54.707.3 yesterday and mighty pleased with it, however I have one problem and I do not know if it is ROM related or just some setting I've screwed up in the process of changing a lot of settings.
When I turn off the phone in Comm manager and turn it on later the phone will not find the network and keeps asking for the phone pin. Entering the PIN you can see it searching on the antenna icon at top of the Today screen but then it just pops up the Phone PIN screen repeatedly.
The only way to get the phone back on is a soft reset. Pretty annoying as I turn off the phone regularly each day
Also I do not have the old flight mode/wifi balloon now when tapping on the antenna/wifi icons in main sceen, I assume this has been dropped from WM5?
Any ideas guys?

Do a Hard Reset then test the ROM out for a few days. If you are not satisfied with it try one of the cooked WM6 versions (since they are superior).
Thanks
I will play with it as you suggest, also forgot to mention the keyboard no longer illuminates :-(
My radio too is an old version 1.03.03.10. Should I upgrade it first before flasing another ROM ( I have Hard Spl loaded OK)
After adding all my email settings for different accounts and loading apps I don't feel like a change of ROM for a few more days ;-)
Thanks,
Al
i think the problem is with your radio, try any radio at least 1.23 and above
I've been on WM6 since the second day I had my hermes, about 3-4 months ago. I've been on 4 or 5 different trips on planes requiring flight mode. Various LSVW and Sleuth ROMs used with various radios from 1.38 and on...
Not once, despite many layovers, have I had an issue with the phone not coming out of flight mode.
So, in my experiance, no, not a WM6 bug.

I have almost the same problem, but in my case it doesn't ask for PIN code. If I disable PIN request, everything is fine. Try to do the same and see if it's OK. This is the first ROM with this behaviour, but I can live with it in exchange of the amazing speed and phone respondivness !
I haven't seen this problem, but I do see a problem with opening a data connection after being in Flight Mode. It tries to connect to the provider 3-4 times (with quick connects), and then fails with an unable to connect message. At that point, I need to reset in order to connect to data again.
seems to be like the same problem that i am having!! i think its linked to the SOD bug, my herm100 continously reboots the 'radio' part of the phone.. when making a call the phone shows full signal however after placing the call the signal drops before connecting and it searches again for network... im sure that the phone is doing this whilst in standby mode too (maybe linking to the SOD problem) and since you've got you pin request on it seems to be cycling and asking for a pin code!! hope we can find a solution i've tried a few things but nothing seems to cure it!
Did anybody find a solution to this? My TyTn does the same
Hi everyone,
This is my first post, I'm an IT consultant, but by no means a phone expert! I have been upgrading my HTC Universal fine over the last year, and would consider myself a beginner (especially in contrast to you guys!)
I upgraded ro Radio 1.18 and the Ultimate WM5 posted a few days ago. Really good results, and great work - however the actual phone component keeps breaking, and I have to HARD reset.
The phone screen opens fine, and when you try to make a call, it freezes that screen, although you can still return to the Today screen. I'm unable to bring back the phone screen until a soft reset - and then it all starts again.... until I finally hard reset and then I can make calls again.
I'm not going to load any software today, to see if it happens again whilst "clean", but all I had put on was voice command, and a few SPB tools and tomtom yesterday.
So I'll let you know if it goes bad again later, but I thought I'd let you know in case this issue is already raised elsewhere and the search didnt bring it up. To be honest, its not an easy problem to hunt an answer for, as the symptoms are quite generic and broad.
Thanks very much for whatever you can suggest in the meantime,
Kind regards,
Mike
Orange M5000 on O2
Hi again, phone still working ok after 9 hours - and have only done the following do far:
Activesync setup to exchange, and push activated
O2 modem gprs connection created
Dare I do anything else, before I bust it!
Cheers,
Mike
1) My opinion, it seams radio ROM 1.18 has some issues
2) Even any other Radio ROM I would suggest you to keep the phone Band in Manual (GSM or 3G). Keeping the Radio Band in "auto" and by low level signal leads that the Device keep surching for better signal and that cause the device to freeze.
The symptoms you describe sound familiair.
Only I have had the same problems with WM6 and any radio rom.
The radio always seems to get stuck, and after a couple of disabling/enabling the phone the radio really gets stuck and I can't connect to the internet anymore.
I then have to soft-reset the device once, but it usually hangs or crashes, a couple of soft-resets are needed to 'reboot' the radio rom or something.
This was with the first build WM6 roms and radio 1.15 Darkforce/Pdaviet
I don't have this problem now using the cooked WM6 roms using the second build WM6 core (new build) and radio 1.15 or 1.18
Having the same issue radio 1.18 and KDS's WM5 ultimate so just gone back to WM6 from PDA viet that I was running with no problems.
Psi
Thanks Mike for bringing up the issue.
My V1640 (Voda Uni) exhibits similar problems: phone dialer freezes & unable to exit the screen. Going back to today screen by pressing hangup button or using today start menu works fine but unable to bring back the dialer screen unless by soft reset.
Unfortunately, I can't isolate the problem yet to either the Radio Version or the OS ROM version or the Device. The freeze/hang problem appeared in WM6: L26 V7 & PDAViet 2.10.11 as well as in WM5: Js 1.90.96 & KDS Ultimate Edition using V 1.15 & 1.18 in all the above. Tried Darkforce WM6 2.10.02 last night with 1.15 radio rom & the freeze issue came up once already.
I think this is a program/app compatibility issue & now trying to find out the culprit but nevertheless would try to downgrade radio down to 1.11 & will report back any progress.
Cheers.
radio downgrade
Hello everybody! I would downgrade my Radio version, where can i find the necessary files? Which one do you suggest me? I have a qtek 9000 running wm6 2Things version.
thank you!
Hi All,
I am also running a Voda Uni upgraded last month to WM6 with Radio 1.18.00. Since then I have a problem -- I do not know if is related to the thread or not but I thought I would describe it since it relates to GSM 1.18 and GSM crashing.
When power gets low (30-50%) and I attempt a to make a call (or, more often, when I use GPRS) I get a pop-up dialog box that says "GSM Radio Crashed. Reboot in 30 seconds." The phone then kills itself and attempts to reboot. It dies completely midway through the boot. All is well again when I switch to a new battery --at least until the power gets low.

Have the same problem. I have been using thingonasprings WM6 for a month with radio version 1.15. And the last week when I try to make a call I get that dialog box "GSM Radio Crashed etc" I havent noticed if its only when battery is low (think its always low these days thoug I just bought a new one a few month ago)
Hey there,
After months of reliability and good service, my Blue Angel has started misbehaving!
If I use it for any reason and then turn it off, it waits for a few seconds and turns itself back on again. It's as if I'm about to receive a call or text, but nothing happens.
So I turn it back off and the same thing happens about three times.
It does eventually go back off and stay off for some time, but then will randomly turn itself back on some while later. This is particularly annoying when it's in my pocket and I start calling people and/or pressing random buttons on the screen. It also runs the battery down rather badly.
System Info:

ROM Date: 12/13/04
Radio Ver: 1.15.00
Protocol Ver: 1337.45
Ext ROM ver: 1.31.139 WWE
I've tried the reset button but don't want to do a factory reset if I can avoid it...
Cheers all.
Check if you have your bluetooth turned on.
With the BT on it turns itself on several times.
I hope it will get fixed...
I won't - this is already a fix Look for BigMike's BT fix for more info.
Hey, thanks for the info, chaps.
I searched for this problem before asking the question but then asked it because I didn't think it was a BT issue - I can't remember the last time I used BT on this device.
Anyhow, between asking the question and reading the answer, I did a factory reset, which didn't work until I went in to the settings and turned on the button lock. Weirdly this seems to have fixed the problem, even though I know it wasn't pressing buttons that was turning the device on; driving home yesterday the BA was on my car seat and just kept randomly turning on.
Anyway it seems fixed for now and I will see if the BT issue crops up in the future. I do use BT sometimes so it may well do.
Thanks to all as always, what a useful and friendly community.
Simon R.
I there!
this problem was happening to me, then i realise that the power button sometimes got little sticky, only find out when i disassemble the phone, then put some contact cleaner, because i didn't have any button at the moment... and it works it's good again!!
If you try that be very carefully because you could broke the sound volume button when assembling the phone... :S
hi guys,
has anyone experienced a problem where their Trinity will not "wake up" with the short press of the on/off button?
I'm sure I read about this some time ago and am trying to work out if it's hardware or OS related.
I'm running mUn's TE WM6 which I have been for many months now.
The problem has only started in the last 2 weeks or so.
I haven't installed anything new, but have enabled Push Mail for OTA mail.
It's doing it 1 or 2 times a day now and is very frustrating. The only way to wake the phone is soft reset.
When calling the phone from a landline, it does not ring and goes to voicemail.
Any advice or solutions gratefully received.
no one seen this then I guess.
Bummer (for me!)
Try hard reset

But do you have any fact based reason for this suggestion?
I'm happy to give it a go if there's more than 50% chance it will work.

You might have loaded a program that is not liked. Use a backup program. If this does not work then load your backup after the hard reset and you will be back to where you started
P3600 with D810 WM6 ROM; also happens occasionally, recovered with soft reset. Seems to happen most often when I press the On/Off button twice too quickly.
thanks guys.
I'm going to try the hard reset route-I'll report back.
Some time ago this happened to me so often, but said it was due to some application, in my case was Slide2Unlock.
Since I removed by their consumption of memory it didn't happened to me.
(Sorry for my english)
Bugger, this has started to happen to me as well. Only 3 times in the last 3 days but if it keeps is up that will be enough for me to do a hard reset (overdue). Strange cause the only new thing I put on in the last week has been PCM 16 which is only a copy/paste exercise.
The fix in the Hermes forum is to force your device to sleep and not let it go into standby.
I have had some problems recently with DeviceLock 1.2 just ceasing to work and have to uninstall/reinstall to make it work again. I set it to turn the screen off when locked, as this does not put the device on standby, maybe there is the same issue with it going into standby by itself.
I have the same problem..i think that it has to do with the phone hanging..most probably due to some background programs eating too much power and memory and the phone just lacks till it hangs..happens when you have other programs that have hanged as well..my problem is with PocketAlarm..it takes so long to load my phone went to standby and the phone couldnt be called back..in brief the phone just hangs because of a program..i don think it has any problem do to with the hardware or strictly the OS..cant really explain..but the role the OS play in this problem is that it allows the program to make full use of the phone till the phone cant cope with it..its the core of the OS so it cant be avoided with any other versions or anything..sorry it seems rather unclear..hope you guys understand..
same problem for me ... from times to times, when a call hang up, i push a lot of times the red button for going back to the today screen and as it shows up, i click immediately on the Power button for turning off the screen. right after when i forgot to do something (approx 1sec) i push the power button and there it doesn't turn on the screen ... strange ...
what i've installed on it :
TomTom 6
BatteryStatus with today plugin ver 1.04.203 beta4 i put tray icons too.
i've bluezard for sniffing and/or hacking bluetooth devices.
OBDgauge too it's a software that works with a bluetooth dongle i plug into the diag port of my car.
and that's all. ah yes one more thing -> i disable the "HTC Home" because i don't like it.
Same problem here...
Still no solution?
I got this problem from some version of rom by Karmba. But V7.2 is OK so far. It seems happened when I close Egress reader by click X button then turn off screen by power switch. It then would not wakeup again. But if I close Egress and check the running programs from Task Manager to make sure the Egress is not running at the background, then I can turn on or off the screen freely.
So I think this wakeup problem is caused by some running program that was not closed properly by X button then crash the WM.
That was just my personal finding. Hope it help you guys a bit.
