Visual Studio 2005
I've read somewhere that Visual Studio 2005 is capable of creating (and editing) .cab files for Mobile devices.
Can someone confirm this?
I'm download VS2k5 now to try this.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that MSCEInf is only able to read the .cab files not to create one...
You're right Mr. Anderson.
But I'm trying Visual Studio 2005 now, maybe I have more luck.
Are you creating your own .cab files? What software do you use?

Empty Ext Rom
For Anyone who would want one.
I made and empty Extended rom.
All it does is reset the device once.
If you load the ext rom unlocker, you can fill the ext rom with you own tools.

I have a .cab I was hoping someone with win ce would modify for me since my trial is up.
Could someone please look at the attached .cab and tell me it should set the registry setting
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand\
path is set to \Program Files\Bluetooth Voice Command\BTVCBasic.exe
I need that changed to
\Program Files\Bluetooth Voice Command\BTVoiceCommand.exe
Would someone please be kind enough to do that for me? I'm trying to get one .cab put together to get MS VC 1.6 to work with the latest WM6 ROM that were just released yesturday.

Can´t install it
I got the cab but shows unsuccessful install...
do you have it working?
we actually would need the cab to check. this thread asks if anyone has made a cab for the new live? maybe you would be so kind as to provide it
For sure. Where is the cab?
I´m sorry for my bad English
Seems like I missunderstood the original post, I tought that the cab in Matt´s kitchen was the good one. Sorry for the confussion
I tried the one in Matts Kitchen and it worked fine for me. The problem is that it is Build 0600 and not 0700
What is the newest version?
I have installed 10.6.0030.2100 on wm 6.1 and its working correct..

Like to know this also..
My version: Windows Live (10.6.0033.0600)
The newest version of windows Live messenger is 10.6.33.0700 only found in Schap's WM6.1 Pro 4.40 Beta ROM. The Feature that appeals to me is that it has a dropdown box that gives you a choice of , Hotmail, MSN, and Live, . TNT says this will be in his new Wizard Rom Windows Live Messenger 10.6.0034.800, must be the newest, also Khans 2.3 Wizard version has 10.6.0034.800 with the drop down box.
Is it possible to make a cab file of the newest?

Mate, whilst applauding your kindness in helping out your fellows, I think you should edit and delete your post in case you get a bit of a hullaballoo started.
Mustn't post links warez like that on here, mods are quite adamant about it usually.

Here it is. Pls advise how to put it in rom kitchen.
You need a program called packages creator 5.4. That lets you convert .cabs to packages and vice-versa. The package folder is then placed in the OEM folder before you stick it in the oven

editing registry
hi dreamtheather93;
my 12mb pp size untouched pdxbi1 rom is ready i will upload here soon.however i wanna learn how can i delete unnecesarry programs from rom like cnn or rss reader? how can i delete registry of these programs from rom? and last one, i knwo cab extractor and it produces everything when u extract cab file like nitflashfiles.txt, option.xml, .dsm and .rgu for the kitchen ROM. but how can i add these settings to rom? i know too much questions but i like rom cooking and i wanna learn it
once you've dumped your rom and segregated them into OEM/SYS folders, you'll see most of your packages in your OEM folder, sometimes some cooks put them into SYS folders too!
So, find the proggie, and just get rid of the whole folder with the app.
To edit registry, open the corresponding .rgu file in the folder in notepad and edit it.
I use PackageCreator2.7 by ervius to create packages, pretty nice and simple to use...search for it!
To build the OS/rom, I use PkgToolsBuildOS-5.3
I'm still stuck at a problem myself and i haven't found the time yet to get it working....
good luck m8, looking forward to your roms! cheers

Hi.
Does anyone know if it's possible to create a CAB file directly on my phone? I want to do it through C#, so either an assembly or command-line app would be ideal. I think I'm asking for something difficult here, but have my fingers crossed.
You can do it as sktools have software for phone that does the job all be it in a very tedious laborious way
Cheers mate. Nice to know that it can be done. Now just need to figure out how!
let me know if this one helps you out:
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/files/CABCompressExtract.aspx
Thanks RAMMANN.
At first that looked great, but then I read the following...
There are two completely different types of CAB files: The ones which this project supports are the "Microsoft CAB" files (also called "MS-CAB"). The internal pack format may be Microsoft's MSZIP or LZX. Some years later, InstallShield created the "InstallShield CAB" files. But these are absolutely incompatible with the MS-CAB files although they use the same file extension!

Since I'm looking to build cab installers, rather than just compressed & zipped files, it looks like I may be out of luck. I'll keep looking anyway.
Thanks for the suggestion mate.
???
I didn't know there's anything Installshield related on a mobile phone. Are you sure? I guess they are talking about PC installers. In your position I would try the sources to read an existing mobile CAB and you'll see if it's working.
Oh and btw I think that the mobile CABs are nothing but compressed archives but the installer extracts _setup.xml which is in all contemporary cabs and this contains all the installation infos needed.
