Cingular spash screen & chinese input help :-)

I love this site
I;ve gotten costumizations for my BA (Siemens SX66) for e-plus and vodafone. Now I have an eplus splash screen (isntead of my cingular one) - nice - but since I like to change things around every now and then - does anyone have the following things:
1) the original cingular slash screen in a cab format
2) a way to input chinese in my BA (without installing the chinese ROM)
3) now this is old school but I have to ask - anyone have the AT&T splash screens from the SX56 ?
Sorry to be a bother
Admiral
Hi Admiral,
may I ask you where you got that E-Plus splash screen from or how you searched for it?
TIA
see my sig
I think you will find a lot for the Blue Angel there, just select the device and the language you need
CHT: http://www.dmmh.nl/xda/files/sort/?device_id=3&country_id=12
I just found out some of the sorting is totally broken, I will look into that on monday
Mobem CE-Star is a good chinese input
The input method I use is: http://www.mobem.com/products/cestar2003.php
It supports chinese handwriting recognition, pinyin, and several other methods.
I went through the extROMs and extracted some splash screens and theme files - I can post the e-plus one later on if someone is still interested
That would be great, Admiral , will you post it in the ftp section?
Thanks a lot in advance....
I will post them tomorrow morning (US eastern time)
Cool, I'll find them . I'm surprised that there is an E-Plus splash screen out there since they don't really market the Qtek series here in Germany. Their main handset selection is concetrated on the non-PPC handset sector.
But they've always provided me with what I need, hence why I'm still with them after 5 years.

O2 XDA IIs - is there an *official* ROM upgrade?

Wondering if there's an official rom upgrade?
Read a few scary stories about people ROM upgrading, so just wondered if there was an official upgrade which I *know* will work and not kill anything
Cheers
there is a 1.40 asian rom update, but as o2 in uk are crap, they havent released the upgrade yet.
they will only **** it up with that o2 active crap anyway, choose another 1.40rom, and folllow wiki, u cannot got wrong.
The latest one can be downloaded from the 02 website http://www.seeo2.com/ I just installed it and its working fine
think im being dumb, cant find it on seeo2.com
i know it must be in the o2 connect section somewhere...?
any pointers? cheers mate
Here is the link to the O2 Asia 1.40 ROM update.
http://www.seeo2.com/user/XdaIIs/template/XdaIIs_ROMUpgrade_Jun2005.vm
I think you will need to have a login and valid o2 Asia xda 11s device to access it. If you have an O2 UK xda 2s, you can still download and apply this update from here (our wiki site)

Hope this helps

Cheers Chris
Has anyone tried the wiki one with a uk xda 2s and can confirm its working a-ok?
Thanks again
Aslan
Hi Aslan
Yes, I have the O2 UK XDA2S and have loaded the Asia ROM (see details in my signature block] The only thing you may have to do after loading is to substitute the Caller ID cab file in the extended ROM. You only need to do this if you experience GPRS disconnects after upgrading, which is somewhat dependent on the operator/service provider you are with. Some work fine without the substitution. Who are you with?

chris
Cheers Chris - well I don't use GPRS so I'm alright I guess!
Although wondering if there's any way to do a backup which i can port over to the new ROM...too much stuff to reinstall!
Any ideas - sprite backup?
HI ASLAN
Backing up shouldn't be a problem... if you just have data you could use xback up or Sprite and back the data up to an sd card or your computer. Do you use Outlook, as that would be another way to do it via active synch. Let me know what you have to back up and I can better advise..

Hi mate,
Got all the standard contacts/calendar etc which I can do by synching. But also got some progs on:
Pocket Informant
resco file explorer
tomtom navigator
and a few skyscape medical apps.
other bits too but don't really mind having to reinstall those the above are the main ones i use.
Do you know if sprite backup backs up installed programs too? Been havin' a read of this:
http://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/answer.aspx?id=63&back=browse.aspx#p17
So 02 finally released their 1.40 rom. cool
anyone tried it yet? does it install the dreaded 02 crap as well?
Is there a corporate mode to this rom as well so we can get rid of the 02 software?
does it have everything that the 02 asia rom has to offer?

Hi aslan
I do not believe that Sprite will be able to reinstate your programs. I do not know for sure, but think it unlikely after a reflash.. You could send then an e-mail to the ask a question link on the page you found to be sure though..

Hi alitech
The ROM discussed above is in fact the O2 ASIA ROM 1.40.923. You can load this onto your O2 UK XDA2s using the MAUgrade utility found here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_1.40.00_Upgradeon the wiki site, along with the WWE ROMS that are available. The O2 Asia ROM does not have the O2 Active interface, so no need for Corporate mode  I guess that O2 UK will one day release its own 1.40 update for the xds 2s, which is rumoured to include a Blackberry client. Hopefully this will be before the xda2s makes it into the Science Musiem
Hope this helps

O2 UK - Most Bone Idle Organisation In UK!
Hi
I've been waiting for an official upgrade as well, but I think we will be waiting an eternity. O2 does not care about its customers one little bit - thats why we are all stuck with ancient, buggy roms while others enjoy the bug fixes in newer roms.
Many users, myself included dont have the time to fiddle around making foreign roms work.
I guess I shall have to bite the bullet and install the O2 asia rom, and prey the unit still works afterwards.
My contract ends next month, and after the 'O2 XDA IIs' episode I have had with O2, I shall never, ever pass any money their way again.
To be honest, I reckon you are far far better paying the extra money up front, buying an imate and choosing your contract yourself. They do tend to release updates in a timely mannar - which results in much less lost hair!!
The HTC universal looks nice, but there us *no way* I am gonna be paying that sort of cash for it!!
Nigel
Hi Veletron
Yes, I can't say I blame you. (and who came up with the idea to use light blue special character keys with a blue backlight I wonder?] I am actually thinking about switching to a !Qtek 9100, aka Wizard. They will be unlocked and available 5 Oct. Qtek have also been good with ROM updates I think.

JASJAR Extended ROM Map/Definition

Hello everyone, i am looking for a description of what each cab file installs in the JASJAR extended rom...
i have been searching for a long time and have had no luck...
hi, i would like to join this request
i will also join in on this quest to find out what these cab files do..
I made a start on the t-mob one on another post, and I looked at each cab file name, searched for it here, searched on google, then tried to suss it out, then installed it and wrote down what it did to the device by annotating a copy of the config.txt file.
An amateur way of doing it maybe, but I got quite a lot of info on the cabs for the mDA Pro in this manner.
Best of luck and in the end we can probably come up with an uber Ext ROM and pick the best out of the lot of them.
yes i found it and read that. you annotated some of them as dont know. i would hazard a guess in saying that TMO could possibly be t-mobile related applications??? i have seen the o2 version and they have a similiar naimg system for their own customisation!! just guessing, as soon as i receive mine i can start playing!
Yeah I was drinking lots of the old Nelson at the time, and it just got more difficult as the beers went down...

orange uk rom for universal

hi all, this is my first question on this site. This site is incredible for the wealth of info put forward by its member, credit to all you guys.i have flashed with a couple of the roms on my universal mainly tmobile and o2 and imate, but i desperately want to try the orange rom, does anyone know where i can download this from.thank you in advance.also praise due to buzz, what a techie,gr8 stuff.THANX
thats brilliant, i wouldn't have the guts to do that, just a few questions
1.Which ROM have you found the best out of the box? (from the 1st turn on)(added applications etc)
2.say you are on O2, were you able to still make calls/txt/mms on the other roms, (changing the settings etc maybe)
I have an Orange M5000 that im using as a bluetooth modem right now to use on the internet though GPRS (not in a 3G area)(only because u get 1gb allownce for the first 3months!), I would like to help you out with my ROM but i wouldnt even know where to start
THANX FOR YOU REPLY.I WOULDNT ASK YOU TO DO ANYTHING YET,i have done a lot on both the magician that i have and the universal.i have read a lot of discussion on these topics on this website.in my experience,if you are on a contract then yes you are dead right with what you say.at the moment on my device i have about 30 programs on it,it runs suitably fast enough for me.i have unlocked and unhidded the extrom and deleted it.i have an o2 exec running bits of tmobile and a bit of o2,because i have an tmobile sim.the unit is superb despite the neg comments on it,i have had masses of pdas and this is the coolest.currently i have xda exec, mda compact, fujitsu loox720(TOP CLASS PDA VERY DIFFICULT TO BEAT),TUNGSTEN T3,NOKIA9210,SHARP SL860.I would read more on here though because you can increase the confidence level and the level of knowledge u have.the way to do it is to unlock the extrom then soft reset, then unhide it then soft reset have u can see whats on your extended rom.i have an extra 10 meg now i am waiting for buzz god to find out how to delete the partition.the orange has the best today screen interface hence why i want to try it.the files can be copied onto a pc then zipped and posted.only try it though once you are comfortable.flashing roms onto the pda is far more gods will, wouldnt recommend that unless you are totally confident.
yes you can change the settings although i am happy with the config at the moment, easier just to install the extrom bits

a WM6 rom inc Orange branding out there ?

hi,
Administrators:
if this has been covered before please delete this post and I will search AGAIN !
can anyone point me to any WM6 rom for a Trinity that includes the full Orange branding ?
put simply, I do like to use the the Orange sidebar via the jog-wheel on my Trinity.
I genuinley have searched and searched, and whilst there are many fine WM 6 roms, I have been unable to identify one with Orange on it.
thanks to the great advice on here I have flashed a couple of Trinity's/SPV M700's to Orange WM5,
but like the Orange WM 6 (which I have on a Tytyn II) much better.
thanks,
Kevin
after much searching again, I still cannot identify a WM 6 rom that has Orange in it,
or even any reference to anyone having extracted just the branding.
surely I can't be the only one who would like Orange on WM 6 for Trinity ?
as it is out there for Tytn II.
I really would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction,
or at least letting me know I am on a wild goose chase.
