I just purchased a BA 2s from Ebay knowing there was a problem with the unit. Basically it works perfectly except for the following problems, so I thought I would seek your advice before disassembling.
The on / off button: Only turns the unit on or when held down toggles the backlight. It does not turn the unit off.
None of the four silver front panel buttons work at all. Except after a reset the today menu comes on & off several times as iff the button press was delayed then all the presses were suddenly activated by the reset.
The left navigator button acts as the up button. The up & right do not work but the down and centre buttons work normally.
I only payed a couple hundred Australian dollars and hope that I can fix it, reflash it or at worst use it for spares.
Does anyone think doing a Wiki guided dissasemble will yield any results? Can anyone fix it for a fee? Would it be worth sending to an XDA repair centre? I look forward to any thoughts...
Regards
Simon
you should try to check your buttons setting first= setting>buttons (try it first)
if it doesnt work, it might be the hardware malfunction.
I sell the parts you'd need on ebay but check for loose or corroded connections first.

I got caught in that major downpour on saturday and my BA and Globalsat BT-338 GPS unit got soaked.
I dried them off in the car and tried the BA. It powered on, and on the blue imate screen (I flashed it with a PDA2K image) I saw a very brief bit of corruption on the screen. It got into windows then rebooted.
I got it home, dried some more, tried again. Dead as a doornail.
Put it in the cradle, the red "break call" button was dimly flashing. Not an even flash, a bzzt bzzt "I am shorting" kind of flash.
I immediately pulled it out of the cradle and left it to dry more overnight.
Today I tried it out of the cradle, still dead. Gingerly put it in cradle, the top right light went red (low battery I think this means) but no flashing break light so I left it and it went orange (indicating normal charging) after a while. I powered it on and it works. I still get the same brief bit of corruption just after the serial / rom ID screen on bootup.
It would not sync howver. I tried my lil-sync travel sync lead and that synced. I then had the idea of pulling the power plug out of the back of the cradle and letting it reset. It now syncs in the cradle.
All seemed good I thought. But I soon realised that the power button doesn't work. I cannot turn off the screen. If I hold the button down it toggles the backlight, so the button itself isn't broken, but I don't know what is...
I suppose I will have to call O2 and they will tell me to send it to a repair centre, but that will probably a) take ages and b) possibly cost loads.
I was thinking of taking it to a repair shop but I doubted they would know how to fix a BA. Also they may try to rip me off.
Any suggestions ?
Also if you know the best way of going about getting my globalsat BT-338 GPS repaired also that would be great. When I plug it in to charge the orange charging light flashes briefly but then nothing.
worst come to worst, install something like handymenu and make a quick action link for turn off, then assign that quicklink to one of the buttons to turn it off.
not sure that will work to turn it on though - unless you've worked out another way to do that?
When something gets wer, always take the battery straight out and thouroughly dry the inside with a hairdryer before trying to turn it on again. Probably not much help to you now though
I bet 02 will fix it for about £50.
I don't have a hair dryer - you need hair to make it worth having one and I haven't had any hair in years !
I will give O2 a call and see what they say.
I have a XDA2s for parts
Hallo
If you are interested i have O2 xda2s with brocen screen for parts exchange feel fre to contact me
07746555729
Take it to O2 just tell them it doesnt work and you dont know whats happened to it... play it dumb... always works for me. they replaced my entire screen with a brand new one for nothing and it only took under a week. It was so obviouse i had dropped it since ther was a clear dent at the top of the BA. only thing is that if they want to charge you for repair and you decide not to go ahead they will charge you to post it back to you.

exactly what i did uplift
posted it in today, fingers crossed...
I think I am defo gonna get insurance if I get it working again, too much worry...
well I sent it in to the official repairers (Anovo) and they sent it back "Fixed under warranty"
Except that it was NOT fixed, it was displaying the exact same fault, which is SO easy to replicate, how the hell can they call it "Fixed" ???
So I call up O2 cust serv and tell them. They asked me to fax in receipt from repairers which I did and they said they would be sending me a brand new handset
Woohoo !
Well i was happy with o2 till i noticed a ****ING crack on the bottom left hand side of the screen. so i went back a week later cos i was working and didnt have time.
Told them that it was sent back to me like that and they basicaly said piss off.... said they couldnt do anything about it that i could have broken it anytime myself... fair enough. So now i have an xda with a cracked screen and anywhere down in the left corner i have to touch about 6mm to the left of
any button to press on it.
So pressing the New button is impossible.
I cant belive how they didnt even question about how the screen stopped working the first time, so why the hell cant they replace it again!?
Im proper pissed off
Anyone know anybody that has a dead xda with a working screen id gladly pay good money for it!
annoying, but I would imagine the screen is quite easily replaceable.
It's gonna cost, but better than being left with a paperweight...
You guys are not gonna believe this...
So O2 send the new handset.
When I got it I decided to use my old battery until the new one had charged.
Guess what... same problem !!
IT WASNT THE PHONE IT WAS THE BATTERY !!!
So, if your XDA fails to go into standby mode when you hit the power button - don't suspect the phone, suspect the battery !

if u do, make sure u dont get it wet, cos o22 insurance wont cover water damage.
I can't use O2 insurance anyway, you can only insure with 02 within something like 14 days of purchase.
Got same crack but in the right-hand bottom...
I am using my device in landscape mode while waiting for a reasonably priced spare part donor. Rotating the screen usually helps.

Just wonderng what other peoples experiences are with blue angels, I have an mda 3 model and I have had nothing but problem after problem. I have the buzzing screen which has grown to intollerable level, My internal battery keeps draining for no apparent reason, my power button snapped of the mainboard a couple of weeks after purchase and T-mobile would not fix it,
After having it fixed a few months later my power button now only works when I hold it to turn off the backlight but I cannot turn off the screen by pressing once (A few others have had this problem) it's not a hardware issue I don't think because I had it back to a phone shop that specialises is PDA's and they say noting is mechanically wrong with it. From pressing the power button once it seems to stay in the memory or whatever that I presses it and then when I do a soft reset, It hard resets. My internal battery has now started behaving but I still have this power button prob and the buzzing screen.
Also did they put legs in these styli because I have had each xda model and never lost as man styli as I have with this model!!!!!!
Just wondering if anyone else shares my frustration, I have had tons more probs and will post when I think of them!!
**** presses = pressed
Yep I have tried flasing it with different roms and still no change. Im now back to my trusty old xda 2!! never had a problem with that[/code]
Probably, if is not mechanical, the problem is in WIN OS - upgrade new room, other room, oher room etc.

Lol!
Same here!
But beside that, I don't have any problems with my MDA 3 (knocking on wood :wink...
I was having that prob. then i looked at the side and realised one of the screws holding the ba together had fallen out
Id started thinking it was a software fault, but its definitly not as I have installed countless roms and just put WM5 on. I took it in for repair this morning (as last time they put a dodgy screw back in and I cant find a screwdriver that fits!!) and they are having a look tomorrow! I will tell them about the screw so cheers!!
Which screw is it then? inside the phone?
no its the one at the top, on the side next to where the stylus is held.
you may find its loose and when you tighten it the stylus stops falling out as much.
speaking of those T-6 torx screws... where can they be bought, or found?
I do not know if somebody faced this problems before or not:
1- The soft-keys, dial key, call drop key, and the scrolling keys; are always while pressing them for long time does not response until turning off the screen by pressing the power button then turning on again to keep working for awhile then same thing happen again.
2- The screen is sometimes fade to be completely white & brightness more, and everything hidden until turning off the screen by pressing the power button then turning on it again
If anybody knows how to fix this matter please provide me with the solution.
Thanks for all concerned
I had the same exact problem... I fixed it by getting a warranty exchange from AT&T!
I have the same problem! Unfortunately my phone is not covered by warranty. I think it's a hardware issue because I changed a number of ROMs and the problem persisted. I don't know what to do, it's driving me nuts!
Help anybody???
Good news!
Ok, as far as the key problem goes, using the PDF file about HTC TyTN where you can see how EXACTLY to disassemble and assemble the TyTN I took the courage to open up my TyTN and pull up the motherboard and clean everything up and close it tightly back. However I did not completely disassembled it as the manual shows because I did not want to remove any stuff that's glued like the rubber parts and the metal tape that holds the keyboard connector. So basically, I did not reach the part where the soft keys are, but somehow miraculously my keys are working nice again! I guess the problem was just loose connections and probably it was loosing contact somewhere because keys worked sometimes and then suddenly stopped.
Anyways, it's been 2 days now and the keys work perfectly and my TyTN is not so loose like it's going to fall apart as it was before!
P.S.
I haven't noticed the white screen problem also but it's been only 2 days and it wasn't happening so often before anyways.
This issue is known -there are threads in hermes section, search for white screen..
Its a harware issue with XILINX coolrunner(if I remember it right) on the front keypad below screen.. It propably has some bad solders under it -mine went so bad that it showed only white screen until I disassemled the unit and pressed directly the chip with my fingers
Then I bought a new circuit from cnn -at the moment it had those boards for sale, not anymore. That fixed my problem.
Among the threads someone got his/her phone to operate again by putting something between the cover and the chip..
I had the problem on my handset and managed to fix it by cutting up a piece of card..be it and old credit card or whatever to the size of the recess that the chip fits in...this pushes against it nicely and since then only had the problem reoccur once...then it was cured by just putting the handset into standby mode and back to normal again
Hey guys,
So today my phone started acting up, the power button has become touch sensitive. As soon as I touch it or come close to it on either side of it, it acts as if I'm holding it down. I tore it apart to see if it was sick and it isn't so I can't figure out why it's doing that? Anyone ever had this same problem or have an idea of how to fix it?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This has become a common problem with our phones; do a search for "power button" and you'll find several threads reporting the same/similar problems. Some people seem to have managed to fix their issues by wiping the area with alcohol or re-flashing their recovery and/or ROM (I personally don't see how that could help a hardware issue, but whatever). In my case, as well as several others, the power button became permanently damaged, the phone was stuck in a vibrating bootloop and the only way to stop it was to take out the battery. I chose to have the power button replaced using the MobileTechVideos repair service. I wasn't 100% satisfied with their customer service, but the power button was replaced and my phone works fine now.
I suggest the same, I got my phone back a week ago after my power button got stuck.

I bought a replacement power button for my Sprint S2, and it looks like they now offer mail-in power button repair service too. Their feedback looks better than the experience you had.

Don't bother buying a new power button yet! I had the exact same problem, and it was throwing my T989 into a boot loop. Your most likely problem is that your power button internals are getting jammed up with dirt from your finger and lint.
Here is a thread with a person experiencing a similar problem. Here is another thread where I go into detail on how to attempt to fix your problem. You already have the know-how on how to disassemble your phone, so this should be easy for you.
HERE is the original thread that I found which addresses the problem you seem to be having.
CRC QD Electronic Cleaner saved me from having to replace the hardware and I haven't had power/boot loop problems since!
If you feel as if you don't want to over-do it with the electronic cleaner, you can give your entire logic board a nice rub-down with some Isopropyl alcohol (I got mine from a general pharmacy). You should be able to get the electronic cleaner from any auto shop, but I've had specific success with CRC QD Electronic cleaner. I don't know enough about electronics or chemistry to recommend any other brand/type, so if you can't get that specific brand, then I can't help ya!
so, i had this motherboard problem about 8 months ago, where the phone thought i was docking it when i connected the charger, went to guarantee repairs, they changed the motherboard and it was ok for a while. then i got the problem with some parts of the touch screen not working on the bottom half, they changed the whole screen and the motherboard again, so why bother? why not give me a new phone? when i got it back last week, the volume up button was not working, i can change volume when i press volume down and slide it on my screen, but that's really annoying. i discovered this just today, because i didn't have a need to lower the volume since. what do you make of this? my concernes are, that when i take it back now, they're going to tell me that i broke it and i have to pay for the repairs, i'm really stuck with this :S, any suggestions?
I had your problem with vol button, it was a manufacturing defect and i've received a new hox.
However, I change it in the store the day after I bought it
yeah, but if i discovered it right away and took it back the same or the next day, i guess things would be different, any ideas on how should i approach the carrier with my problem?
Just take it back and cause a big scène in front of everybody about the crappy service & repair !!! Done this too many times already
