Can't use tomtom with telephone switched off. - General Accessories

Hello, I have installed TomTom Navigator 5 in my Qtek s200, but I can't connect it with the bluetooth GPS if the telephone is switched off.
Tomtom runs ok, but doesn't find GPS device.
If I switch on the telephone there isn't any problem, tomtom runs ok and find the GPS device.
I have used tomtom, and dell GPS bluetooth GPS reveivers.
Someone knows if is there a solution to use the GPS with the telephone utility switched off?
Thanks!

ive got this problem too with my xda 1 which i only use as a satnav unit
I use the xda with a wired gps but tomtom complains there is no gps device because the unit is in flight mode, even tho im not trying to use any wireless signals.
anyone help ?
thanks.

I don't know if I understand you right, but I might have an explanation for this. On my Qtek 9100, I can't use a bluetooth GPS-receiver when the device is in flight-mode. Flightmode disables all radiosignals...and since bluetooth is sort of a radio signal, it's disabled as well
A solution might be to turn off and on your device and "cancel" when you're asked to enter your SIMs PIN-code. This way, the device is not in flight mode (so bluetooth works) but the telephone-reception is disabled.
I hope this helps, if not: let me know!

yes that works but the phone device is still switched on so uses battery
the gps in question in my situation is a wired unit going directly to my old xda 1's com port so shouldnt matter if the phone or bluetooth are on or not. Even if the pda was in flight mode it shouldnt affect use of my wired gps as there are no radio signals.
seems like a 'bug' in the tomtom software that if the pda is in any kind of flight mode including the phone being off, it decides it cant communicate with any gps, no matter how its connected, as if they expect everyone to be using bluetooth gps' and just include the wired configuration as a legacy function.

Darn...sorry, I misunderstood. I'm using a bluetooth GPS-receiver myself, so I just took for granted that you also used a bluetooth device And indeed, looks like a bug...not very convenient.

Concerning bluetooth devices:
This seems not to work with Windows Mobile 5.0.
With Pocket PC 2003 devices it is possible to use with TomTom bluetooth while in flight mode.
Here's a work around for Win 5.0:
1) Enable the phone and bluetooth in the Comm. manager.
2) Make the link to thte bluetooth gps in TomTom.
3) Disable the phone in the Comm. manager.
4) Return to TomTom.
The bluetooth link will be maintained until you exit Tomtom or try to link again.
This might also be the case with a wired gps.

BT 338 on TOMTOM 5

Ok this might sound a bit dumb to you guys but I'm having a little situation here.
I got tomtom 5.1 and just got the glabalsat bt338 receiver.
I have paired the device with my xda as I have paired a nokia BT headset.
When I switch on the nokia headset and bluetooth, the pda and headset establish a connection automatically.
I would like to do the same for the bt338. As soon as the bluetooth is on, it should establish a connection.
I am not able to do this. I have to click on the bluetooth manager, double click the bt338 for it to establish the connection. Then I have to exit bt manager and turn on tom tom. Still tomtom does not detect the GPS receiver until I click on the GPS device settings and select OTHER BT RECEIVER and then select Blutooth receiver on COM5.
Only then does the GPS show any life.
I would like to know how to get the BT338 to work by just turning on TOMTOM.
It should authenticate and establish the connection on its own, and by the time its up, i should be able to input a destination.
Confusing? No?
easy there mate, give it time....once you have the BT338 paired with your handset, switch everything off.
then 1st switch on your BT338, then switch on your PDA...start up TomTom and leave it for at least 1 minute...it should switch on Bluetooth automatically and connect to the BT338, i had this issue and the 5.1 update solved it...let us know if successful.

GPS receivers for xda exec

There seems to be lots of questions relating to gps receivers not pairing with o2 xda exec especially with tomtom. Most solutions say you must designate com 6 to work. But I am only offered com 4 amd 8 all others unable to connect. Is there a general problem with bluetooth and XDA? When I load up tomtom under GPS it says I must pair first! which I have done. Is there one easy way to pair bluetooth or is it a case of try lots of different ways to see which works. Any thoughts would help. :!:
this always works for my bluetooth gps.
Turn blootooth on.
Start bluetooth manager
Turn on bluetooth GPS
Select NEW from bottom left menu in bluetooth manager
Scroll down to explore Bluetooth device
If keyboard appears type 0000 into keyboard and then Enter.
Once done you should have an icon in BT shortcuts - BUT you need two ICONS so repeat the above actions again.
Now you should have two icons for your BT GPS.
One BT GPS SPP (1)
One BT GPS SPP (slave)
The reason - one is the up channel one is the down channel.
Double tap either one and they go live.
Run TOMTOM and it should work fine.
What a lot of BT GPS users do is establish just one connection Icon which they think will make everything work OK. You actually need two Icons.
This problem drove me nuts for two whole days - my battery went flat and I re-installed Tomtom then the bt gps but didn't realise I only had one BT connection instead of two.
If you have done they above and Tomtom doesn't find the BT GPS try doing a configure within tomtom and select Other BT GPS device - that should fix it.
Cheers
Chris

Need help with BT GPS n XDAIIs, plz plz plz plz

Greetings,
I have tomtom navigator installed on my XDA IIs and i have polstar bluetooth GPS, BT 111, they both work fine and excellent, but the problem is, the next time when i switch on the bluetooth gps and tomtom on my XDA, tomtom doesnt detect the gps itself, I mean i have to delete the bluetooth entry in the bt manager of XDA and i have to add this new bt connection and all the bt setup again, why is it, can someone please tell me the solution to it, i mean like is it possible tht everytime i switch on tomtom on XDA it automatically detects my bt gps receivers.
Plz, thanks in advance
cheers
First of all make sure you have TomTom Navigator version 5,21 loaded on the device. Then create th ebond between the devices, and set TomTom up to use "Other Bluetooth GPS". If you have done all this how long are you waiting for the XDA to switch on the BT and find the GPS? it can take upto 45 seconds on some devices, if you need TTN5,21 download it from www.tomtom.com as it is free - Mike
I'm running TTN 5.21 on my XDA IIs with no problems, I don't even need to do anything with the bluetooth, it automatically turns on the bluetooth when I start TTN and turns it off when I close, and it automatically picks up my TT BT GPS dongle. Although there is a max 5 min wait to get a valid GPS signal.
I installed the 5.0 version then used the update from the web site afterwards.

Bluetooth GPS

I've looked for an hour or so now, and I can't seem to find it again...did I see somewhere that someone had turned their Bluetooth capabilities on their Hermes into a GPS receiver for software that used GPS? Maybe I'm just making this up, but if so, can someone please show/tell me where/how?!?!?!
I think you mean that they hooked up with a "bluetooth GPS receiver unit" via BT.
The only two ways I'm aware of is to use your carrier's towers to triangulate your coordinates, and via an external GPS unit (I'm using the Cingular retailed TelNav unit va BT).
As far as I know, triangulation is possible, but it's not widely known how to do it.
The Hermes apparently has the GPS hardware, however it's not "enabled".
Is this what you have heard, or something else?
1. buy bluetooth gps
2. discover it (settings -> bluetooth)
3. add outgoing port
4. set up gps program port in windows (optional)
5. use gps software with port from 3 or 4

Any way to automatically reconnect SPP Slave GPS?

I'm having trouble that I never had on my Tilt in regards to using a bluetooth GPS with my Tilt 2.
I've always used GPSGate, but I can't get it to make a Bluetooth connection, so I'm trying a SPP com port connection, but when I do that it prompts me every time it wants to open the connection with a dialog like:
Bluetooth serial port
Please select a serial port connction shortcut to connect:
Add
HOLUX GPSlim 236 (SPP Slave)
I already have created the port (com2) in the Bluetooth prefs, and if I select the HOLUX entry it does connect, but it prompts every single time. Is there a way to make this reconnect automatically or any suggestions for the Bluetooth connection problem?
Bump, maybe someone else is interested and trying this. Tilt 2's GPS seems better than the original Tilt but still nowhere near as good as a good Sirfstar chipset.

Well, i have the same problem as you with my European Pro2.
I allready reported this problem to HTC, pointing out that there is not posible to save the hardware settings on External GPS settings tab.
i'm also interested in a workaround.
Old stacks...
You used to be able to do it with a registry flag. But that no longer works. Just search for BTBrowserEnabled.
Nothing else works either that I have tried. have also placed a call to HTC about it. Using a HTC HD2 WM6.5.
At least if there was only one device it could auto connect. But no that would have far too easy.

I have same problem with HTC HD2. EveryTime when I need to use Holux M1000 BT GPS. I must go to BT settings and manualy connect SPP connection with BT device.
Also have exactly the same problem trying to use a GNS TrafficBox FM9BT-C TMC receiver with iGo on a HD2. Pairs fine but then when you try to use iGo the window pops up again briefly but without enough time to allow you to select the com port.
Surely someone must know how to fix this?
Very annoying
