What is the best and the fast internet browser for HTC Universal using 3G connections ...
anyone have an experience ??
cheers..
If you ask me, Opera 8.60 and Netfront 3.3 are the only two contenders in this area.
After having extensively evaluated both of them I have put my money on the Netfront 3.3 now available in commercial versions
Regards
i hv used both of them. Opera provides the fastest internet experience and also the best internet experince. Pages get loaded pretty quickly
Hi kdskamal,
I absolutely agree with you that page loading in Opera 8.60 is faster than on Netfront 3.3. Furthermore the page rendering on Opera is also closer to the desktop experience. But one thing which made me opt for Netfront 3.3 is that if you load really large pages then the scrolling gets really slow and almost unusable. For example try the site www.pocketpcdubai.com and you will notice the difference.
The other thing which made me prefer Netfront 3.3 is the fact that this is the only browser whcih can handle file attachments at the Hotmail site. Finally support for flash objects was again another plus for me to buy netfront.
Regards
Opera seems to provide the best functionality and performance.
If you want to preserve Microsoft integration and services, stick with IE, but you will suffer from sluggish performance and minimal features.
Catch 22
If someone gets me an open source, I can build an awesome browser
Opera 8.6 is highly recommended
Preferably with a registry hack to act like IE6 (I use Tweaks2K) to ensure that you can still do all the secure stuff. The registry hack just allows you to load pages that may be a little strict about what browsers can view them.
I just installed Opera, and works great. Only pda pages will be shown very small, but that's why there's a zoom function.
The only thing is that the LogMeIn plugin you have to install for using this function doesn't seem to work with Opera, only on Microsoft IE or is it just me again???
Of the two (Opera and Netfront), I prefer the new Netfront 3.3 - install a narrow font on your Universal, and you can render all pages comfortably in the normal screen area. The stylesheet support is definitely the more complete, which gives perfect page layouts every time. Opera seems a bit quicker, but I find the occasional inability to tap select links to become incredibly infuriating.
Has anyone else tried Minimo yet? (Mozilla's Mobile Manifestation of Firefox)
For browsing purposes I have found it to be superior compared to others. The viewing area is huge (you don't need to set your Universal to VGA).
However, its downfalls are the amount storage and memory it uses. Additionally, it doesn't support Flash.
I'm sure future versions will be improved.
But like I said, give me an Open Source and I'll work on something

Are there any other browsers beside P.I.E. and Opera mini out there? I hate these 2 browsers! Please, any help would be appreciated.
Netfront, Opera for PPC (not mini) for example
Netfront is decent
you could get P.I. plus(an add-on for P.I.E), but it costs after 14 days
I've attached cab's of both
i found nokia's browser (optimized opera) on my e61 (same as n95, n93 etc.) the best, especially its minimap...alas it works only on symbian based phones
netfront
netfront....

Minimo
Try Minimo. It can be a tad slow to open tabs, but it renders far quicker than PIE. FYI, Minimo is a port of Mozilla Firefox for WM5/6. Strangely, I haven't seen it mentioned here before.

Thanks that minimo browser is what i was looking for a java enabled browser the interface is kind of funny though but im trying to understand it.
I was about to post a similar message today. I just upgraded to the Vp3G WM6 Rom and finding that Opera mini doesn't work as well as it did on WM5 (I've tried both the 3.1 and beta 4 versions and they both act buggy and slower).
I've never liked PIE and I even downloaded the beta version of their Deepfish browser which is slow and doesn't zoom well.
I've used Piscel browser, which is great for zooming but not really for browsing quickly, plus I'm getting the memory full error too often.
I have the Opera 6.5 full mobile browser, but it's slow too. The plus is that that one will let you download stuff (such as megaupload files, etc)
I'll try the Mozilla one, but it doesn't seem too great.
The NetFront one is slow too and zooming isn't very user friendly.
I guess I'll have to wait til Opera gets their act together on the real release of the next mini, unless there's something else out there. Opera mini, IMO, is hands down has been the best mobile browser out there so far, but I wish it wasn't so buggy running on WM6.

Did a search, didn't find this in the forums
Seem superior than opera mini 4 so far (faster loads, zooming, etc.) visual bookmarks is very nice. The license expires in Feb 08, check it out.
EDIT:
It seems that the page pilot (the opera mini like pan and zoom) functionality does not work on all win mob devices (I'm trying to figure it out right now). You may want to hold off on dl the cabs (unless you like to mess with this kind of stuff) untill we figure out how to get page pilot working. 12/4/07)
My initial impression...
This browser isn't nearly what Opera Mini 4 is. Pages don't display properly, pages don't display in "real" view but instead, they display similar to PIE except not as good.
Save your time... don't waste it on this product.
i second that, opera 4 is much better
Does anyone else have issues with Opera Mini like I do?
It doesnt rotate properly when you switch to landscape and I'm not keen on the input boxes when you fill in a web form (it changes the display to the opera input box rather than typing 'live' on the form).
Other than that, it is the best browser, but it's annoying.
the new release of IrisBrowser is out with FlashLite support
and using webkit.
It's faster than Opera in my first tests.
Looks very promising now.

What do you think?
cheers for the heads up - downloading now - sounds promising.
Tested with the Official FlashLite 3.1 from here

yes really nice browser but the navigation could be more intuitive. but i think he works great and fast and thats it
Fast? Are you sure... it seems to be uite slow in loading. The operation is fast, and scrolling once loaded nice... but nothing special.
iris is pretty slow over gprs but not bad on wifi, it does however render much better than any other mobile browser..
Iris, Opera, Skyfire
I like the opera for the nice smooth look around in websites thing.. And iris is nice animations between wesite changes it like fades but it seems its kinda the same as opera to showing websites.. But it can´t show every website with flash content.. And i found a browser that can do it.. Skyfire new release now for Touch HD with wvga screen.. It takes all sites flash content and everything.. It is also fastest browser of them all.. Im not sure about if it works with edge.. I only have 3g and HSDPA.. In mobile browser type "get.skyfire.com" like internet explorer, opera diddent work for me to download skyfire in.

I just tried version 1.0.1.6. a few days ago. Is this the same version or newer than that?
this one is 1.1....really nice.
iplayer on iris
bbc iplayer doesnt even work on it so how is it good
Had tried out almost every release in the past, and this version is a big improvement over the past's. It is better than I have expected, but is still not good enough. I can't download file correctly, just see garbage on the screen. Just like Opera, it cause havoc to smart keyboard such as Tengo and TouchPal.
One nice thing that it excel over Opera is that it has shows a miniaturised webpage with a red rectangle representing the currently view area, and you're able to drag that red rectangle around to quickly move from one part of the web page to another other part quickly. I wish Opera Mobile can do that rather than having to swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe....swipe, swipe....swipe.
I like the fact that just like Opera Mobile, you can double tap to zoom in and out.
Yes, I think the rendering is slightly better than Opera Mobile but not as good as Opera Mini.
Speed wise, I rank them as Opera Mini being the fastest, Opera Mobile second, and Iris Browser last.
Still prefere Opera (both Opera mobile and Opera mini). Have been using Opera Mini lately and begin to prefer it over Opera Mobile.
But, I can see that given time this could be improved to an extend worthy of contending against Opera.
I prefer Netfront cos : in Iris the keyboard don't appear when you're in a textbox, and the doubletap to zoom is painful because when you want to tap on a button, it's so hard than you double tap everytime.

I agree with this. Opera mmini offers the best "net experience" smooth and fast. Not perfect, though.
Does anyone know if it is capable of multiple pages or tabs?

I've installed both Iris Browser (like it!) and Flash Lite 3.1 from this link above but flash contents won't show up on my HD - just a white screen ... what do I have to do?
Eriol
i tried this out today on wifi and also on HSPDA and i much prefer the opera browser then this one, its just not as fast for lookin at things on the internet, its not as easy to go and click on things, or work your way around the page.
i have yet to try flash properly on my htc HD, the only way i have used it so far was with skyfire (new wvga version).
anyone prefer this browser?
I really love this browser.... simple and easy to use.....
Hello
For me I like it a lot it's fast and the zoom is working well
It's supporting the landcaspe...
personnaly I'm converted
just tried 1.1.1. it's not bad but needs some work. Zoom in /out + scrolling around is slow compared to Opera (build 15529), switching between tabs is fiddly (you have to go into the menu to switch, no fast button like Opera), address bar is tiny (and keeps hiding itself) plus it's a memory hog (or it has a memory leak - had to reboot my phone after surfing just one website).
to summarise, it's promising but still needs quite a bit of work.

Cool, a new browser. I'm going to try this browser for sure. I'm wondering how fast it is compared to Opera 9.7 and Opera mini 5. Thanks Pekas
with this browser I cann't access my facebook account, I cann't write in password field.
Looks promising. very fast.
Just tried this new browser, am wondering now why it's layout is so similar to Mach5?? They're of over 99% alike of each other except their name...!!???
And they seem to be using the same kind of web proccessing...ie, loading though their server then send to end-user.
Anyway, both Mach 5 and this can load webpage extremely fast. The most important thing is that uZard is free while Mach 5 is NOT.
uZard is great, runs better than any mobile browser i used. I was using Skyfire before, but uZard is better. I only wish they release a WVGA version, they only have vga/qvga for now
WVGA, possible?
First impresion , excellent web pages flash support, real fast , poor YouTube videos with no sound for me.. Totally very very interesting..

I can confirm it's running fine on a Touch HD.
Though there is no "fit to screen"-zoom like in Opera .... i like it.

Why they look so smilar, may be they just the same software, just look at their folder structure, and execute file description, I can say they are 100% same.
What I am interest to know is the propose of "Logic plant Co, LTD", why they turn a payware into a freeware let people use.
yes, that's what I'm wondering now. In fact I paid for using Mach5, but now I see this new browser that is almost 100% the same....
Anyway, both are much faster, in term of webpage randering, comparing to opera and skyfire. But still, it cannot copletely replace opera or IE mobile. Especially when doing some kinda e-banking or paypal or anything alike.
Will this work with the HTC HD Mini?
I've used both IE and Opera, and it seems that IE is a lot faster (I always thought opera was supposed to be the fastest).
The browsing speed of my xperia, combined with the horrible keyboard doublepressing letters makes it a useless piece of junk to me for internet uses!
I had a better time using my X1 as a wi-fi router and reading manga on my iPod touch using its opera, it was amazingly fast (pages load within 1 second), however on the X1 itself, it would take FOREVER.
My top 3:
1. Opera
2. Skyfire
3. Internet Explorer.
Opera 10 for me. As a 'bit on the side' I also keep Picsel, it's a convenient browser and all-rounder for opening all sorts. At the time of me getting it a few years back, it was a semi-legal Samsung port that was protected better than White House. I loathe IE and never ever use it.
opera 10 is far better than IE, , much faster too... i wont mind having that IE that's faster than opera
browser
Hi there, I have experimented with many browsers, and the one browser i have found to work the best is Skyfire. I couldn't log into my banking webite due to many javascript and all sorts of funny things, and skyfire was the solution. I also use the others, as I have found that some work better than other. I don't think there is a master solution, but a question of experimenting and finding "horses for courses"... my 2 cents worth ....
Anton
There are many threads like that here. Use search little and you will see.
Also there is no clear solution to this answer. Everyone have different best browser.
For me, that is Opera 10.

I have Opera 10 on my X1 and its not bad, however I was just wondering if anyone has managed to get www.tvcatchup.com working on their phone yet ? The browser keeps telling me that it needs flash so I installed flash light for windows mobile and it still come up with the message that it needs flash..
You won't get full flash on WM. Your best bet is to wait if they release Android 2.2 for X1, but flash would still be super slow and choppy.
My vote goes for Opera Mini (the .cab, not the .jar). MUCH faster than the std. browsers

I know that one.
I am currently using Opera Mobile 9.5 but it sometimes crashes my phone when you first launch it or close the program.
So what is the best lite Internet browser for the X1?
opera 3.0 mini hand down !!!

can i get the cab that's free?? i feel opera is better!!!
i am using the one called UC browser , its very good , fast and reduces GPRS traffic , i used to install opera mini with my p1i and p990i before , and it was better than UC and much more effective with the traffic reducing , but with my X1 , the only opera mini wich can be installed is the Opera mini 5 beta , which unfortunately doesnt support Arabic symbols ....
the opera mobile browser ( not mini ) consumes GPRS data like a monster , and is not economic at all
UC Web - Wonderful browser open 10 or more tabs!
UC Web is a wonderful browser I have been using. Both on the PPC and WinMo Standard. Can open lots of tabs (have often opened about 10!) and not restricted to 3, as in Opera 10.
Has proxy based compression to reduce data usage, if needed. Unlike most, have prefered it over Opera, Opera Mini, Teashark, IE, Skyfire etc. Though for some specific uses one may want to use other browsers, UC Web has been my default browser for a long time.
Also very suitable in downloading stuff.
I'm using Opera mini beta 5. It's really thumb friendly, fast and snappy.
My favourite browser for everyday use is opera 10. It's fast, displays most sites correctly and I like it's user interface.
For all sort of flash based sites I use Skyfire but I cannot use it as my standard browser because of the lack of tabbed browsing and the chessboard issue.
My default browser is Internet Explorer since I frequently use programs that rely on the default browser and I experienced some problems when I changed the default browser to Opera.
In china we use UCweb
Opera mini 5 is the fastest one then opera mobile or IE.
