Problems after ROM update - HELP - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Hi
I've been running my Jasjar for a while now with no problems until a few days ago. Then I thought I'd flash the ROM to the latest version from the iMate website, also unlock it using Buzz Lightyear's unlocking solution.
Unlocking and then flashing the ROM appeared to go smoothly and, once I'd downloaded the latest Activesync (4.1.0, build 4841), I was once again able to connect to the Jasjar and everything was hunky dory once more - until I tried to reinstall some programs...
Basically, when I try to install Tomtom navigator, also some other programs I use for work (including SQL CE from the MS website) the install appears to start OK but then - depending on the program - it either crashes and wants to report a problem to M$, or it just vanishes from the PC screen. However some other programs, such as M$' remote display control, install OK!!
So, I tried it from my laptop - exactly the same result!
I've tried trawling through the registry on my PC and deleting any suspect entries, but this has made no difference.
All the above programs that are failing to install were running fine before the ROM update.
Current settings info, after the ROM update, is:
Rom version: 1.30.76 WWE (02/20/06)
Radio version: 1.09.00
Protocol version: 42.42.P8

ROM crashing XDA IIs

I have just had a pleasant email from O2 talking about the problems of the latest ROM crashing the XDA IIs.
ROM version: 1.31.00 WWE
ROM date: 12/13/04
Radio Version: 1.06.00
Protocol version: 1337.38
ExtRom version: 1.31.139 WWE
Sorry if I am not the first person to report this, but this is what they say:
We believe the problem to be a memory leak were by programs are not releasing system thus meaning other programs do not have enough available memory to run on thus resulting in the device freezing. We are working with Microsoft and HTC to resolve the problem and should have a permanent solution soon. However in the mean time we have found that removing the active menu stabilizes the device so below are the instructions on how to do this.
Please be aware that the fix involves a hard reset which will wipe all data from the device, using backup/restore will reinstate the bug so we recommend that you use active sync to sync all data with outlook instead. Hard reset the device (hold the power button and press the reset button (with the stylus). Follow the onscreen instructions until you have set the time zone. After 2 - 3 minutes of installation you will be prompted to select a mode (personal or corporate) Please select corporate and enter the code 0506 with the numbers that appear at the bottom of the box. Tap finish and the device will state that the active user interface will not be installed. This is now the corporate mode and will not show the o2 branded software.

Bluetooth manager doesn't start until I soft reset

Hi all,
I have a strange problem: bluetooth manager works fine after a soft reset. I can my PPC the whole day and it will always start normally (read: the screen that shows BT shortcuts shows up). The problem occurs when I turn off the phone over night (flight mode). The next day I can't get the BT manager to show the shortcuts screen - BT can be switched on and off but neither the BT manager or the BT settings screen will show up (there is no error message!!!). After I do a soft reset everything starts working...
Has anyone come across this kind of a problem in the past? I couldn't find anything using search on this forum...
My device info is (DutchRetail ROM):
ROM: 1.40.00 WWE
Radio: 1.13.00
Ext ROM: 1.40.556 WWE
I have tried uninstalling almost all extra software that I have installed after a hard reset but the issue is still here.
Thanks for all suggestions on what else I can try.
Hi Poga,
Yep, I get exactly the same problem :-(

Do either of you have Goodlink software on your device?
same problem no goodlink
Same problem but no goodlink software
I also get another funny problem where sometimes I go to connect to my bluetooth access point from my phone and it just has the little pie icon saying it's doing something, then it stops and it hasn't connected (the connection icon stays the same) and I can't make any sort of connection. It then does this everytime I try to connect.
I don't know how i fix it, but I combination of many soft resets various flight mode turn ons and fiddling it eventually works. It's very frustrating and it's happened on every software version. Right now i"m running 2.04.00. I have a CDMA from Telecom NZ running radio HA_01_151 right now (but I've tried other radios).
Somebody else had this problem I noticed but nobody replied to his posts.
I've got the same problem I hope someday that someone makes a fix for it. I run the XDA IIs BlueAngel 1.40.00 Asian O2 ROM WWE. =/.
Same problem here - only solution I had was to go into settings/memory and then stop all programs running - then the bluetooth manager appears without the need for a softboot..
Pain in the arse. :!:

I do and I have the same problem. I've been suspecting that it may have something to do with that because when I reset and I can start the manager just fine before I start Goodlink, but after I start goodlink it's a pain. Once, I tried to start BT manager then it didnt... i forgot all about it then suddenly some 11 hours later it just popped up by itself. Goodlink had been running continuously.
Any ideas???
I sometimes have the same effect.
What I usually do to resolve it (without soft reset):
- I installed PocketNav (kills programs which run in the background)
- I select 'Close all but Ative' in PocketNav
Then the Bluetooth Manager works again.
Hope it helps.

This is due to memory limitation in WM2003SE. When it finds that the memory is not sufficient it wont run Bluetooth Manager or Wifi. I had this problem a lot until i have shifted to WM5 which has more than 100 mb when the device starts. I guess that is why M$ has built WM5 for that reason and also for persisten storage of course.
The "memory limitation" is indirectly the problem. The Goodlink, which is more than three times the memory hog as any other 3rd party app out there, is the direct problem. I could write a college discertation on the amount of bugs in this awful software. And yes, it is good for push email...but at the expense of everything else that is good about these multimedia devices we own. The typical "close-when-you-tap-the-X" software utilities don't shut down Goodlink on my device even though they successfully shut down every other software I own (over 40 titles). So I have to use MemMaid to kill its process. But Goodlink will restore itself in a matter of minutes as it ventures out to the server looking to synch mail, calendar, contacts. If there was ever a reason to bring back public hangings, it would be for the Goodlink windows OS development team.
I don't really see any issues with Goodlink eating my memory. Then again, I've converted from a strictly fun user to a strictly business user so the whole gaming and multimedia thing doesn't quite do it for me anymore.
Steiner,
I tried PocketNav to see if it would truly close GoodApp.exe. Although it does seem to shut the application down, the 6+MB exe still is open in memory. Using MemMaid it shows that it never really closes.
I also didn't have the Goodlink software installed . My solution to the problem was: I installed the Sprite Backup software and set it to automatically restart my PPC @ 6 am after creating a backup. So in a way, this problem was very benifical to me - I now have a fresh backup of all the software every morning and the device reboots every morning without my intervention (no BT errors, no WiFi errors, etc).

Good idea!!!

how do I downgrade my 2750?

I have PDAVIET rom on my 2750 - version 5.2.00H on the boot rom.
I want to go back to the HP version of Windows 2003. So, I unpack the files from HP (SP29856 - fresh download from HP), perform a clean reset of the 2750 and start the "downgrade".
When it starts transferring the data, what I see on the Ipaq is a new window called FUU with "Hello World" right in the middle. The upgrade seems to proceed OK - but the system stays on WM6.
So, what is going on? Where is this FUU coming from and why isn't my Ipaq being put into boot mode?
Any help appreciated
I get exactly the same thing as Alan trying to downgrade my hx2795 using the same ROM (SP29856.exe) from HP. Yeah I know the ROM is for the 2750 but the hardware specs look very similar between the 2750 and the 2795 so I was hoping I could use the ROM to downgrade from WM5 to PPC2003.
The rompaq is for all versions of the HX2000 series so it is designed for us. Something else is going on which we don't understand. Anyone elso got any clues?

After the update did you perform a clean reset? Cause when I downgrade to wm5 from wm6 I mention that nothing seems to change(the device boots in wm6) until I perform a clean reset.
I have done many upgrades on both my 4700's and my 2750. Each time, whether it is using the HP method, or Chris's bootloader program, the Ipaq ends up in bootloader mode before the upgrade starts.
On this occasion, it didn't. I got a program called FUU starting up - and I could access the today screen etc while the flashing was apparently working (the HP utility was gayly counting up the percent numbers). At the end of it, Activesync happily reconnected to my old profile.
I did also try a hard reset - but that still came up with WM6 as the base O/S.
Since BOOTLOADER itself will not work either, I think the latest rom upgrade on there has screwed something up - not sure what, why or how.
Alan
Yep, what Alan said. The HP update utility apparently thought it was updating the device but the device was just showing the FUU "Hello World" window. And during the alleged update I can go to the Today screen and access my programs.
If I hadn't downloaded this directly from HP I would think this was a joke.
I am able to re-flash WM5.0 to my hx2795 using sp33752.exe downloaded from HP. Everything works as expected, the HP utility puts my 2795 into bootloader mode before flashing the device.
I cannot find sp33752 - can you give me a pointer?
Thanks
Alan
Hmm... I just tried searching for sp33752.exe on HP's support & drivers webpage and it found it. Otherwise try:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...x=sp33752.exe&pc=0&sc=1&nh=10&rf=0&lkc=1&lk=1
Any luck with downgrading to PPC2003?
Many thanks - I'll try that sometime today and see what happens.
Alan
downgrade
Hi,
I'm trying to do the same. From some searching around I found out that what you need to do is use the WWE-hx2000_PPC03_downgrade.exe program which comes with the WM2003 upgrade CD.
I don't have the cd, and I have problems with P2P (it's avail both on torrent and ed2k), so if you get that file, and it works for you it'd be wonderful if you can upload it to rapidshare or something and post a reply here.
Good luck and cheers
I tried that SP - get the error "Could not initialise the device".
My Ipaq is in the cradle and activesynced to my PC.
So, it looks like i am stuck with this WM6 version. Something about it has stopped any form of upgrade or downgrade.
Alan
So, next thing I tried is to copy the FUU.EXE file to the older SP directory and run that. But all that does is appear to download the nbf file, but the IPAQ hasn't gone into bootloader mode, so nothing happens.
I think what I am missing is why we need these files (RUUClientdriver.dll, FUU.EXE etc) and what changes in each of the OS upgrades to require a different version. Any one know these sorts of answers?
Alan
success!
I found the file (http://rapidshare.com/files/17084671/WWE-hx2000_PPC03_downgrade.exe) and succeeded to downgrade to 2003.
I had to reset to bootloader mode (contacts+itask buttons+reset -> connect to cradle -> calender button*) and then run the hpRUU.exe from extracted directory (c:\ipaq\hx2000) and it works like a charm.
hope it helps. g'luck
(* contacts - 2nd from left, itask - 4th, calendar - 1st.)
That seems to be doing something. I put it into bootloader mode and it's flashing. 66% through and the bar on the Ipaq agrees.
Success!
Worked for me too! Thank you spring777. Now I can run PPC2003, WM5 or WM6 on my hx2795. This is such an awesome forum.

Help! Hungs, On Wifi Connections O Sending Sms Msj!

I have a hateful problem, when i power on my hermes, and try to synchronize to Windows Live, the phone hungs, the same to sending sms, showing the screen of the lastest aplication that i use, and freezing the screen, foring to reset, i have triying flashing with diferents versions of roms, and the problem persist in each instalation, also flash my radio with diferents version but i dont have resolve the problem, try to fix bad blocks, but nothing bad, my spl es 2.10 olipro, any help is welcome ...
I'm having almost the same problem on my Cingular 8525. I can connect to a WPA/TKIP-secured WiFi network. IE is able to open Web pages over a wireless connection. However - after approx. 10 minutes tops, the PDA hangs, the backlight goes off and the PDA only responds to soft reset.
I've tried the WiFi driver patch mentioned in the FAQ, and it almost bricked my WiFi and Bluetooth. Thanks God SKTools have an option of restoring replaced system files from ROM - I did such a rollback for the driver files and now my PDA is at least back to its original state.
My configuration is:
OS ROM - wm6.premium.v2, dated 4/17/07, OS Version 5.2.1236 (Build 17741.0.2.1)
AKU 0.2.1
Radio: 1.41.00.10
Protocol: 3274.7020.18H
I'm on the verge of reflashing the device with the original WM6 ROM from ATT, but would prefer to avoid the flashing if possible, as I am an absolute beginner to this.

Hi Folks
Apologies, have been a member here for ages and am sure the forum rules have changed but...
Can anyone help me?

- Current Image Version SONE
Update from:
Image Version: SONE
To:
Image Version: Duttys Diam v4
Next, next
Then I see Multi color boot screen on Diamond:
"Security Unlocked"
Diam140MFG
SPL-1.40.Olinex
MicroP-Diam (LED) v11
PSOC-Diam Stage_PVG v0x30

Have to reset phone then it runs win mob 6.5
I'm going to try another PC and other cables but has anyone else seen this sort of thing? Cannot find anything using search.
Thanks in advance

try to flash from internal memory...
i doubt its gunna be your cable if your the ruu can read from your device i have 3 suggestions you could try!!
1) use mitty to format ur device b4 you try to flash a new rom ( if you still cant flash after u will be left with no os on ur device tho )
2) try flashing a stock rom see if that works
3) try flashing using the internal storage method
best of luck
Hi Folks
It turned out to be a little more incidious than a cable problem.
The machine I tried from first was a completely fresh XP PRO SP3 build and the latest download of ActiveSync (all built in the last 48 hours).
The build that worked is months old. The binaries I have on the old and new builds both say Active Sync v4.5 but the one I downloaded a few months back to the other build was different from the one I downloaded most recently to the build that won't update.
Resolution: Flash from internal storage worked great! thanks
Also
Use the older binary for ActiveSync 4.5 which installs drivers (not signed) when the Diamond goes into multi color screen then continues rather than failing.
Hope that helps all
Yours
Leon
