how do I downgrade my 2750? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I have PDAVIET rom on my 2750 - version 5.2.00H on the boot rom.
I want to go back to the HP version of Windows 2003. So, I unpack the files from HP (SP29856 - fresh download from HP), perform a clean reset of the 2750 and start the "downgrade".
When it starts transferring the data, what I see on the Ipaq is a new window called FUU with "Hello World" right in the middle. The upgrade seems to proceed OK - but the system stays on WM6.
So, what is going on? Where is this FUU coming from and why isn't my Ipaq being put into boot mode?
Any help appreciated

I get exactly the same thing as Alan trying to downgrade my hx2795 using the same ROM (SP29856.exe) from HP. Yeah I know the ROM is for the 2750 but the hardware specs look very similar between the 2750 and the 2795 so I was hoping I could use the ROM to downgrade from WM5 to PPC2003.

The rompaq is for all versions of the HX2000 series so it is designed for us. Something else is going on which we don't understand. Anyone elso got any clues?

After the update did you perform a clean reset? Cause when I downgrade to wm5 from wm6 I mention that nothing seems to change(the device boots in wm6) until I perform a clean reset.

I have done many upgrades on both my 4700's and my 2750. Each time, whether it is using the HP method, or Chris's bootloader program, the Ipaq ends up in bootloader mode before the upgrade starts.
On this occasion, it didn't. I got a program called FUU starting up - and I could access the today screen etc while the flashing was apparently working (the HP utility was gayly counting up the percent numbers). At the end of it, Activesync happily reconnected to my old profile.
I did also try a hard reset - but that still came up with WM6 as the base O/S.
Since BOOTLOADER itself will not work either, I think the latest rom upgrade on there has screwed something up - not sure what, why or how.
Alan

Yep, what Alan said. The HP update utility apparently thought it was updating the device but the device was just showing the FUU "Hello World" window. And during the alleged update I can go to the Today screen and access my programs.
If I hadn't downloaded this directly from HP I would think this was a joke.
I am able to re-flash WM5.0 to my hx2795 using sp33752.exe downloaded from HP. Everything works as expected, the HP utility puts my 2795 into bootloader mode before flashing the device.

I cannot find sp33752 - can you give me a pointer?
Thanks
Alan

Hmm... I just tried searching for sp33752.exe on HP's support & drivers webpage and it found it. Otherwise try:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...x=sp33752.exe&pc=0&sc=1&nh=10&rf=0&lkc=1&lk=1
Any luck with downgrading to PPC2003?

Many thanks - I'll try that sometime today and see what happens.
Alan

downgrade
Hi,
I'm trying to do the same. From some searching around I found out that what you need to do is use the WWE-hx2000_PPC03_downgrade.exe program which comes with the WM2003 upgrade CD.
I don't have the cd, and I have problems with P2P (it's avail both on torrent and ed2k), so if you get that file, and it works for you it'd be wonderful if you can upload it to rapidshare or something and post a reply here.
Good luck and cheers

I tried that SP - get the error "Could not initialise the device".
My Ipaq is in the cradle and activesynced to my PC.
So, it looks like i am stuck with this WM6 version. Something about it has stopped any form of upgrade or downgrade.
Alan

So, next thing I tried is to copy the FUU.EXE file to the older SP directory and run that. But all that does is appear to download the nbf file, but the IPAQ hasn't gone into bootloader mode, so nothing happens.
I think what I am missing is why we need these files (RUUClientdriver.dll, FUU.EXE etc) and what changes in each of the OS upgrades to require a different version. Any one know these sorts of answers?
Alan

success!
I found the file (http://rapidshare.com/files/17084671/WWE-hx2000_PPC03_downgrade.exe) and succeeded to downgrade to 2003.
I had to reset to bootloader mode (contacts+itask buttons+reset -> connect to cradle -> calender button*) and then run the hpRUU.exe from extracted directory (c:\ipaq\hx2000) and it works like a charm.
hope it helps. g'luck
(* contacts - 2nd from left, itask - 4th, calendar - 1st.)

That seems to be doing something. I put it into bootloader mode and it's flashing. 66% through and the bar on the Ipaq agrees.

Success!
Worked for me too! Thank you spring777. Now I can run PPC2003, WM5 or WM6 on my hx2795. This is such an awesome forum.

Bricked hx2110 help

I did a rom upgrade on an hx2110 - installed successfully, but now the only thing I can get the pda to do is go into Pre bootloader mode (i.e. Pre-BL 1.00.02 blue screen). SO I tried the universal bootloader method - makes it all the way to the flashing portion but then does NOTHING - the terminal simply sits there saying "ready" and does not upload anything - the program sees the correct communication port (ie. usb01 or whatever). HOW do I force an upload???
Thanks!
Rusty
On another note - I had purchased a working 2110 with a good mobo to replace this one if the flash is not repairable - is that a difficult procedure? Unfortunately, the 2110 I purchased was not working, but this may still be in the books at a later time, so some info would help.
Thanks!

Rusty,
You are so lucky that I experienced this problem and solved it on my own. You did not specify what ROM you were loading, but here is the fix:
First you need to get another pocketpc, hx2000 series like yours that is working.
Put that device into white screen bootloader or pre-BL mode (depending on which device you got to borrow)
Ensure that the battery on that device is 100% charged.
Run the original ROM upgrade for the ROM you wish to install (use PDAViet if it's WM6 and use the HP SP32408 to Run it)
Hit all the Ok screens until it brings you to the one that has the "UPDATE" button.
Remove the working Ipaq from the cradle and place it's 100% battery in you own.
Put your Ipaq into pre-BL mode and put it on the cradle. Press the calendar button to activate the usb drivers.
Once it says "USB", Hit the "UPDATE" button and it will load the proper ROM to your IPaq.
When It is done, perform a hard reset by formatting the PS on the device.
Voila!! Your Ipaq is Un-Bricked!! Put in your original battery and charge it up!
Enjoy!!

hi Rustmonkey,
i have the similar things - i made my hx2110 brick when i flashed it with a different language ROM, it went 100% when i flashed the ROM but didn't work at all after that.
the problem is i can get it in the bootloader mode after trying many ways, at the same time the pc can't find any USB device at all.
how to make it work again?
thanks.

You're going to need another hx2000 series to make sure the battery is fully charged - put the battery in and then use the bootloader keystrokes immediately (contacts+itask+reset) - you made need to tap reset a few times while holding the other two to get it to work. After it is in bootloader mode, push the calander button while it is connected to the cradle/usb to get the pc to recognize it

really amazing !!!!!!
I just saved my hx2110 as per your step by step instruction now.
Thank you very much.
ok, well, I thought they were fixed... now one of them freezes at the bootup screen, even when I do a clean reset... I've tried reflashing multiple times to no avail... any ideas whats going on?
ok, got everything working - reflashed the non-working one back to an original 2003 rom - which made if freeze at boot - then upgraded it via pre-bl to 1.00.00.L - from here, it wouldn't do anything after filling the bar at the boot screen, but it didn't CRASH (as in lights out) - so I ran the pre-bl again and ran the flash program for 1.00.00.L again WITHOUT swapping between the 2495 and the 2110 - just put the 2110 in pre-bl and away we went - flashed, formatted, and booted - then proceed to upgrade to WM6 via 1.00.00.H --> 1.02.00.H --> WM6 - works GREAT!!!
Thanks for the help everyone!
Dear All,
I`ve got the same problem but i don`t have a second ipaq.. is there anyway to repair it with out the second device???
Thank you very much

Hello,
I have run into some problems with a bricked hx2110.
I was flashing the IPAQ to a new ROM WM5 (Battery was full and I read all the instructions 10 times prior to flashing). While flashing, the progress bar went to 100% then faded out immediately and it wouldn't reset (clean reset). I put the battery in my friends hx3000 series and the battery I used was completely dead. It did flash to 100% though, but not matter how many times I try 1 + 3 + reset, it doesn't reboot. If I can figure out how to get it to boot, that would be great, but I can't get anything to come up with any key combinations.
To this point all I can do is get into Pre-BL mode 1.00.04. I have tried the below scenarios on two machines, both running windows XP SP2 (USB 2.0) with the firewall and virus software disabled.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330382&page=4
1) I have tried the above links directions and used the the Universal Bootloader (Bootloader.exe). It gets to the point where it says "The PDA should be updating now" or something similar but nothing happens. I don't get any errors regarding communications (it sees the device when I hold the "Calendar" button until it says USB; windows then recognizes the device as "HP USB ..." so I know it's communicating).
2) I tried to use the Bootloader_GUI.exe beta so that I can watch the progress indicator but it just sits at 0%. There are no error messages so it is communicating but for some reason, the device won't let it flash (and the flash utility thinks it's doing something).
3) I tried the original ROM flash from HP (SP29856.EXE) and it recognizes the device, but because the current ROM on the PDA is hosed, when it does it's "verifying" process, it comes up with "?" marks as the model number and when it goes to flash it starts at .1% then says "FINISHED" immediately. The ROM utility thinks it flashed it correctly but it didn't flash anything. I'm guessing that the verification of the PDA failed and forced the utility to not flash.
Does anyone have ANY ideas of what to try? I wish I had another HX2000 series PDA and try the "swap" thing prior to hitting the update button but I don't. All I have to work off of it my sad bricked PDA and a full battery (friend keeps charging it). His PDA is an HX3000 series.
Any ideas would be appreciated,
Thanks!
Are you using a the HP flash program that is specified for your device?
2nd - you might be able to use your buddies device in a swap as well - not sure but its worth a shot - use HPs upgrade program, let it verify, then swap your device onto the same cable - overwrite the firmware in the update program for HIS device with firmware compatible with yours and then hit update - let us know if this works...
I am using the "official" HP flash program specific for the HX2110 (from their website - SP29856), bootloader.exe, and bootloader_gui.exe
I wanted to try my friends, but he won't let me touch his because I bricked mine lol (I swore nothing would happen to his but he still won't let me try it).
Anyway, I just copied over the ROM image (from HP) and stripped out the header (now showing 64 bytes before the ECEC). The ROM is for WM2003. I copied the ROM in binary using psdwrite.exe to an 256 MB SD card. As soon as I can get the battery back, I'm going to try to flash it from the SD card. If this fails, I am going to try to play around with MTTY / USB and manually call the ROM flash and see what happens.
Having another HX2000 series would make this easy (maybe a little TO easy )!
Bootloader never worked for me - but if you can get it to manually call the flash, more power to you good luck!
Well it was worth a shot. After spending the better part of the day with the PDA, I have made no more progress (can't get Pre-Bl to update). The only option I have now is to find someone with another hx2000 series that is willing to resurrect it from the dead for me (PM me if you can help - I will pay two way fare). Until that happens, it's going in the "broken" drawer with all my old comp stuff .
Thanks to all the tips and tricks that is posted on these forums and brighthand! There is a wealth of information on this topic and without them, I would have gotten nowhere in trying to repair the device (granted, I wouldn't have been intrigued to upgrade the ROM in the first place and would still have a working PDA, but that's besides the point ).
Best of luck to you all.
1).download original ROM from HP (sp29799) -extract files
2) download http://upload.dvhk.pl/content.php?id=88892 - replace files
3) flesh device.

First important question: what upgrade did you try to do?
For iPAQ h2200 there is no cooked ROMs: WM5 or WM6x. This device can work only under branded WM2003se.
If you tried to do upgrade to any of cooked ROM like WM6.0 from different device like hx22xx by mistake, please try the following:
1. Go to HP www page and download the last available ROM upgrade (I assume English ROM)
2. Turn on iPAQ (don't carry the device doesn't boot properly) and place it to the cradle which should be connected to PC which has installed active sync software (please don't carry about lack of connection seen on active sync).
3. Run the ROM upgrade.
If you tried the HP upgrade and it stuck - just repeat them with the way described above.
Important - do not use blue tooth connection during flash !!! Only USB !!!
Good luck.
If it doesn't help I believe there is hundred of similar cases described in forums - try to search the solution there

As I understand you correctly - you restored your iPAQ into live using the last available ROM from HP site, which is WM2003 (thank you Menneisyys). The iPAQ worked fine and then you was trying to make another ROM upgrade - which ROM did you use?
I am asking because the ROM in version 1.10 is the most actual one and there is no any other ROM for this device. I assume that source of your problem is you are trying to use incorrect ROM. Correct me if I am wrong... If this is true - the solution is to restore your device into operational using the way as you did it before and stop to flashing your device - there is no another ROM to your iPAQ
the v1.10 but the problem is that after i flash the wm doesn`t start it just stay there stuck on the startup and i reflashed the device but still doesn`t start
how did u fix the stucked screen while booting? im searching for solutions for 30 mins now, but dind't find a way...
please help somebody..
ok, for those with "same" problems like me:
i have windows 7 64bit. the rom flashing wasn't successfull on this machine. i did the same on my notebook with windows xp and it worked. before it said that it couldn't find my ppc. on the notebook it wasn't a problem.
i had these installation notes found anywhere:
1.) Go to the Vendor Website, and...
2.) Select the appropriate hyperlink for your model.
3.) Download the most recent BIOS version.
4.) Press the POWER + iTASK + CONTACTS + RESET buttons at the same time so as to enter the FLASH Mode
5.) Make sure your USB connection to the Cradle is hooked-up.
6.) Place your PDA in the USB Cradle.
7.) Stop the MS ActiveSync session on your HOST PC: CTRL-ALT-DELETE > TASK MANAGER > PROCESSES.
8.) Highlight WESCOMM.EXE and select "End Process" button.
9.) Run the file you downloaded from your Vendor in step 3.
10.) The PDA should now begin Flashing the iPAQ's ROM BIOS.
i ignored step 4.)
hope that it helped somebody

Need Help Flashing Hx4700 to WM6.1

Hi I'm a new user and just got my hx4700 2nd hand and need some help flashing the hx4700 to wm6.1 Its wm5 right now. First I tried the normal way of flashing but when I couldn't get the ipaq to sync with the comp. I installed activesync but when I connected the cradle and ipaq nothing happens, only a new hardware found asking for software to install "Hp rndis sync". I tried installing automatically with the cd in the drive but it couldn't find any software and i couldn't get the ipaq to connect to the desktop.
So I tried using the SD card to flash the ipaq instead. I tried using both the SD_IMG program and All Image to copy the rom onto the SD card but when I go into bootloader mode all it showed was the HP logo, the version at the bottom, and the text Serial at the top. Nothing else happened.
Someone help please. I'd really wanted to get it to wm6.1 asap. Thanks in advance.
Ah solved the problem. I was using the cd that came with the ipaq. Tried the wm5 upgrade CD and it updated activesync to 4.1 and now activesync works fine. Am flashing to wm6.1 as I'm typing this Can't wait.
Btw should I be seeing anything while the files upload to the ipaq?
Ok now I'm faced with another problem. The moment the files are supposed to upload to the ipaq, and the small little window that comes out and say files should start uploading or something like that, the window behind which is supposed to have some text, hangs with only a letter 'P' and turns "not responding" I tried a soft reset and nothing was flashed yet.
I tried the GUI version of the bootloader and it seems its stucked at 0% complete forever. Doesn't hang like the non GUI version, but still doesn't start flashing either.

Money ahead: Need serious help with my hx2000 / hx2490

Hi there!
I am in serious need of help with my iPAQ hx2490. Yesterday, I tried to do the
official HP ROM Update. Everything went well, up to about a point when the RUU told me that there is a connection problem with my device.
The update went to just about half way through, and I didn't touch anything, I just left the device in it's cradle.
Anyway, my problem now is, that the device won't start the OS, I can't get past the HP welcome screen. The loading bar fires up, and completes it's way to the right, but after that: NOTHING!
I have tried soft, hard and clean reset, without any help. When I do a clean reset, the display shows "Formattin PS", and the loading bar reaches the right. But after that: NOTHING again!
I tried flashing everything again, from WM 2005 first and second edition, even WM 2003. The result is always the same.
I can get it into Pre-Bootloader, normal E-Bootloader. I do get a "USB Connected" message, and I do get the following "USB" message on the screen.
Now here's the odd thing (and I do hope that all you experts are dying to solve this mystery!): when I do the update again, at either 84,1% or sometimes 85,1%, the iPAQ shuts down, and starts again. But this doesn't stop the RUU from continuing!!
I've tried everything I can, I read all the infos in the forums concerning iPAQ problems, but they're mostly concerning entering bootloader, which is NOT my problem.
Money ahead: I'll donate 10€ to the person who is able to solve this riddle!!
The money can go to either this website or the person's own PayPal account.
oh I forgot: I did try ChrisMRulz bootloader method, but I wouldn't work for me. I managed as far as the MTTY program firing up, and I do get a WCEUSB prompt, but can't enter any commands, and the nbf file doesn't get uploaded!
PROBLEM SOLVED!! Sorry.....
Can you tell us how?
Maybe it will be helpful for others that have similar problems in future.
Sure, I can do that:
I managed to flash the official International English ROM Update to my german hx2490 iPAQ. I just used the trick that you have to start the correct HPRUU.exe for your country-specific device, but just before you hit the last "Update" button, you change the .nbf file with the one you want to flash.
But you have to rename it to according filename the HPRUU.exe originally loaded,
if you don't rename it, the update utility will crash.
By doing so, I was able to flash the above mentioned ROM to my device, and after that I just flashed my country-specific ROM.
Now I'm back and running WM5.
If further explanation is needed, I'll gladly help out someone with the same problem.

Hx2410 rom update problem, desperately needing help

Hello, I'm Frank, and I'm a little bit newbie in the PPC world XD, I have an Hx2410 that was disconnected at approx. 60% of the flashing procedure, now I cannot update it anymore. I tried to restore WM2003 (I had WM2005 anyway) but the update stops at 0.1% then, the iPAQ restarts and freezes. I have to remove the battery to reboot to Pre-BL mode. When trying any different update, the RUU shows that my iPAQ's SKU is invalid, so he won't let me update my rom.
So, I tried with the universal bootloader (sourceforge.net/projects/ubl/) and when I select the rom file, but, the program stops at : "Status: Flashing rom to your device.. 0% Complete.".
I tried to connect to the iPAQ with mtty. I have the USB option (so my iPAQ is recognized by the computer) but there is a problem : I don't have the USB or CMD prompt when I push Enter key... I can't do anything.
The window is white and the cursor is blinking
What can I do?
Thanks in advance
You should search before making a new thread!
Yesterday user Chameo in hx2000 WM6.5 thread wrote how to update iPAQ if it's disconnected in flashing process.
Chameo said:
I've found a solution to my bricked HX2410!
Instead of changing the ROM file before pressing the UPDATE button, I changed the iPAQ! I've started the update tool (RUU) with my second working iPAQ connected and after the device recognition finished I changed the working iPAQ with the bricked iPAQ. After pressing the UPDATE button the ROM was flashed normally.
Hope this could help anyone else in a similar situation.

So, you need another iPAQ to bring your hx2410 back to live.
And mtty / universal bootloader is only for hTC devices, hx2000 series iPAQs are made by LGE.
Hi Spiaatie, I've searched all the forum, and tried all of the solutions given, but none of them worked for me, I've already seen that post, but unfortunately, I don't have any hx2410 nor any hx2XXX ipaq at hand, because hx2000 series are very rare to find here, I'm in Argentina, my ipaq it's from outside of my country, it's from US, I guess. And I've read in the official page (h**p://sourceforge.net/projects/ubl/) and forum (h**p://forum.brighthand.com/ipaq-hx4700-series/243984-universal-bootloader-tool-flash-any-valid-rom-any-ipaq.html) that the Universal bootloader tool is for any ipaq...so that's why I mention it..
