Please help me if you can. This problem has nothing to do with ActiveSync.
I transferred all contacts from my SIM Card to my Xda IIs without a problem - at first - but then I had to put my SIM Card back into my old phone, as there remained about 20 contacts in my old phone memory. So, I deleted 20 contacts from my SIM card memory, transferred the remaining 20 contacts from my old phone to my SIM card, then copied all my contacts to my Xda IIs again.
The problem is that all contacts but the 20 old ones, and the 20 new ones which replaced them, now have duplicate entries.
I was surprised that SIM Manager would not recognize the existing entries rather than add the same number twice. I would call this a significant bug. I have thought about trying again, but I don't want to end up with contacts in triplicate!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Found my own solution, albeit a potentially dangerous one:
Installed SKTools, which located all duplicates in no time at all. However, SKTools will not automatically delete the duplicate entry; one must select which contact of each pair to delete, one by one. This would not have made my task any easier but for that I still had these particular contacts on my SIM Card, so I toggled to select all duplicates and deleted both entries for each duplicate, which left me with only 40 or so contacts on my Xda IIs of the hundreds I had had originally. Then, using SIM Manager, I selected all contacts from my SIM card and copied to my phone contacts list.

I save a contact, X1 asks me where do i want to save it, outlook or SIM..once i save in outlook, for what ever reason i do a hard reset, the NEW contacts are GONE!!!
Same problem here, just gave it a hard reset as I installed something faulty and now all my new contacts are just gone. I was assuming it was saved on my memorycard...

Contact Filter
Hi Guys,
Maybe a little obvious but have you tried fiddling with the contact filter setting in the contact menu on the dialler screen. It allows you to filter by either Sim or Outlook. maybe you have that set incorrectly.

Creamy
I hope you mis-spoke
Seriously? Hard-reset erases EVERYTHING on your phone. Outlook contact info is always on phone memory, not SD card.
If you want to save it before a hard-reset then use a PIM backup program or sync first to an exchange server/desktop outlook and after hard-reset recover your contacts.
If you meant soft-reset, then that may be a different issue that I cannot help with, but if you mean hard-reset PLEASE be aware that it resets EVERYTHING on the phone memory back to original ROM files.
If you have contacts saved to SIM they will not be affected by hard-resets. By default new contacts are saved to phone memory and not SIM.
I have my old sim and I want to put the contacts from that sim on to my new Desire. I had to have a new sim and number for it so want to add the contacts from the old sim. I wondered what the best way was. Any help greatly appreciated......
I know it's laborious but you could copy your old contacts into your Gmail contact list, then they'll automatically be sync'd with the device. It'll be less of a ball-ache than having to key them in on the device.
I was wondering the same but seeing as hand problems going from SE sim contacts to Samsung HD contacts (loads more field options) then spent time having to clean up all the contacts.
So this time i was able to first export all my contacts to VCF files then just joined them up into one big VCF file split by GMAIL groups and they just synced straight to the handset as i was doing it.
Plus its a lot easier to edit the contacts via GMAIL than on the phone.

Just stick your old SIM into the Desire and 'Import all contacts from SIM to phone'. This will transfer all your old SIM contacts to the phone itself. If you want these contacts in the new SIM (not necessary) then stick in the new SIM and transfer the contacts (now on the phone) to your new SIM.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe contacts saved on SIMs do not support multiple entries/fields or is quite limited.
If you want to transfer all your data 'as it is' (or as close as possible) then you need your old phone and transfer via a common software - MS Outlook for example.
hey people, few days ago when i am using my phone, i realised some contacts has 2 entries and some has 3 similar entries. so i delete them one by one and thought that will be the end of the problem.
after that, i never use my phone to sms. but today when i look through the 'People' application, all my contacts got duplicated. and when i try to delete one of it, it ended up deleting both of them. i never sync to any places, including gmail at all.
can anyone help me with this problem?
I believe some of them are from facebook contact and some of them are contacts stored in your simcard...
This annoyed me too. So I took the pain to delete all my contacts stored in my simcard.
Give it a try.

hmm. i already choose do not sync from facebook already. if i delete all my contacts from simcard, i need to add them 1 by 1 back? cause right nw when i delete 1, both will be deleted
One is "call mobile" and another one is "sent message"?
A screenshot may be helpful...
Another good way is, if you still have your old phone with you (with all your contacts in it), then delete all the contacts in this new phone, including the simcard.
Then select "set up", i.e., the icon looks like a magician's hat, select send from my old phone from there...
its back to normal again...
all i did was take out my sim card and put it back to my old phone to copy the contacts into the mem card there. after i placed my sim card back to my desire hd, the total number of contacts go back to normal and all the duplicated contacts has disappeared.
this is strange
I found that even having facebook contacts sync disabled I was still getting this problem. I had to stop using the facebook facility built into sense and only use the facebook app but that seemed to work.
So I deleted all my messages in my inbox, however a few remain. There is the sim card icon next to them so I assume they are saved to the sim. I select them and click move to phone. But they still stay there. Is there some way to clear the sim or just clear these messages?!
Have not been able to duplicate your issue, but go to System/Tools and open SIM manager and there are all the interface tools to take care of items stored to SIM, like IM, email and contacts. You can see everything that is stored on the SIM card and move, edit or delete them.
Hope this helps,
MWS
Your problem was answered above. The move to phone option only copies the message, it doesn't delete it or 'move' the message as the dialogue suggests.
Ok here's the story
saved contacts to gmail account
needed to return phone for repairs
exported contacts from gmail to SIM card
put SIM card in loaner phone
added new numbers to SIM card from loaner phone
got back real phone and inserted SIM card
imported contacts from gmail AND SIM card
Now all (but the newest) contacts appear twice What's the easiest way to fix them? Do I need to do all one at a time?
In contacts set which number or.places to show (gmail, sim etc)
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
Delete all contacts and then just import from either gmail or sim, since they are identical.
You can also check whether your contacts weren't doubled on your Google account (via PC is most comfortable). If so - there is a tool to remove all doubled records offered directly inside your contacts list in the account.
Choosing the source of contacts to show as described above by colleagues will help surely as well. Regards.

Just download MyPhoneExplorer from market and for PC and have full access to your phone.MyPhoneExplorer was initially made for SonyEricsson phones but then expanded with android devices from all brands with WiFi support.
