Ok here's the story
saved contacts to gmail account
needed to return phone for repairs
exported contacts from gmail to SIM card
put SIM card in loaner phone
added new numbers to SIM card from loaner phone
got back real phone and inserted SIM card
imported contacts from gmail AND SIM card
Now all (but the newest) contacts appear twice What's the easiest way to fix them? Do I need to do all one at a time?
In contacts set which number or.places to show (gmail, sim etc)

Delete all contacts and then just import from either gmail or sim, since they are identical.
You can also check whether your contacts weren't doubled on your Google account (via PC is most comfortable). If so - there is a tool to remove all doubled records offered directly inside your contacts list in the account.
Choosing the source of contacts to show as described above by colleagues will help surely as well. Regards.

Just download MyPhoneExplorer from market and for PC and have full access to your phone.MyPhoneExplorer was initially made for SonyEricsson phones but then expanded with android devices from all brands with WiFi support.
Try it ...

Please help me if you can. This problem has nothing to do with ActiveSync.
I transferred all contacts from my SIM Card to my Xda IIs without a problem - at first - but then I had to put my SIM Card back into my old phone, as there remained about 20 contacts in my old phone memory. So, I deleted 20 contacts from my SIM card memory, transferred the remaining 20 contacts from my old phone to my SIM card, then copied all my contacts to my Xda IIs again.
The problem is that all contacts but the 20 old ones, and the 20 new ones which replaced them, now have duplicate entries.
I was surprised that SIM Manager would not recognize the existing entries rather than add the same number twice. I would call this a significant bug. I have thought about trying again, but I don't want to end up with contacts in triplicate!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Found my own solution, albeit a potentially dangerous one:
Installed SKTools, which located all duplicates in no time at all. However, SKTools will not automatically delete the duplicate entry; one must select which contact of each pair to delete, one by one. This would not have made my task any easier but for that I still had these particular contacts on my SIM Card, so I toggled to select all duplicates and deleted both entries for each duplicate, which left me with only 40 or so contacts on my Xda IIs of the hundreds I had had originally. Then, using SIM Manager, I selected all contacts from my SIM card and copied to my phone contacts list.
I have my old sim and I want to put the contacts from that sim on to my new Desire. I had to have a new sim and number for it so want to add the contacts from the old sim. I wondered what the best way was. Any help greatly appreciated......
I know it's laborious but you could copy your old contacts into your Gmail contact list, then they'll automatically be sync'd with the device. It'll be less of a ball-ache than having to key them in on the device.
I was wondering the same but seeing as hand problems going from SE sim contacts to Samsung HD contacts (loads more field options) then spent time having to clean up all the contacts.
So this time i was able to first export all my contacts to VCF files then just joined them up into one big VCF file split by GMAIL groups and they just synced straight to the handset as i was doing it.
Plus its a lot easier to edit the contacts via GMAIL than on the phone.

Just stick your old SIM into the Desire and 'Import all contacts from SIM to phone'. This will transfer all your old SIM contacts to the phone itself. If you want these contacts in the new SIM (not necessary) then stick in the new SIM and transfer the contacts (now on the phone) to your new SIM.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe contacts saved on SIMs do not support multiple entries/fields or is quite limited.
If you want to transfer all your data 'as it is' (or as close as possible) then you need your old phone and transfer via a common software - MS Outlook for example.
Hi, I have just got my desire and am very very impressed so far, however when I go into my contacts I see the ones I have synchronized from gmail and also my sim contacts.
Is there anyway I can stop the sim contacts showing in the app?
Thanks
Stewart
Wonder if this helps. Under Contacts there is a View option where you can set the sources. SIM is one of those and you can deselect that option to avoid any SIM entries.
Yeah that kinda helped! Now when i go to people the gmail only contacts appear, however when I go to phone dialer, my sim contacts are still appearing? Thanks, stu
I was annoyed by this too and the only workaround is to delete all contacts on the sim.
Desire couldnt do it and neither could the sim app I tried, so I put the sim on my old phone and deleted it from there.
Now I live happily ever after

I was able to delete the sim contacts using the desire. Long press on the contact, view contact, hit menu then delete. Job done. Might take you a while if you have alot to delete, but I didn't mind doing it one by one as I was also adding them to gmail as I went along.
I only had 60 sim contacts and even that would have been too much to go through one at a time for me - I am lazy

I have read some posts which mention that the phone dialer includes all contacts and therefore what is applicable to contacts is not applicable to dialer. I am afraid that deleting contacts is the way to go (for now), unless someone is aware of any other option.
Well I deleted the contacts from my sim, so only my Gmail contacts are showing now. However, it seems like the contacts are not actually stored to my phone, as it doesn't show any contacts being saved to the phone.
Is there anyway I can copy all the Gmail contacts to my phone?
All you have to do is select contacts to be sync'd under Accounts&sync>google>sync contacts and press the sync now button. Once you do that all your gmail contacts should be available on your phone.
Looking to see if I can solve some issues with my phone without havign to do a fatcory reset,
1. At first the phone wasn't showing contacts from the sim card. So I imported them, but now it appears the phone is reading them as I have duplicates for a lot of the contacts. How do I delete the ones off my phone.
2. I have FB on my phone, but contacts unsynced. When ever I get a txt it comes through with their facebook account name and sometimes their picture. It even happens when they call me. How can I stop this from happening?
Basically how can I use only the contacts on my sim card? Don't want the phone using any others!
Thanks,
First install "go contacts" from market. In its menu options, you can batch delete all contacts. Do it. Then go to settings in your phone( before Google or Facebook sync the contacts again), then go to accounts and sync. You may see you online accounts there like gmail, facebook etc. Click on every account you have and untick sync contacts( if you want to avoid any others like sync Calender/ mail etc, you can untick it too) . Done fb or gmail will never sync contacts till you tick it again and do a sync.
Now go to contacts in your phone( if you are done with removing contacts, you can uninstall " go contacts". I do the same with it on my cm7 rom, as the stock contact application does not have a batch delete option . If you can find any other application which can do the same batch delete , u may use it insted of " go contacts ") now in contacts click menu and it have an import/ export option. Use it to copy contacts from sim to phone.
Remember to take a backup of all you contacts to SD card using the import/ export option. In case you may delete phone/ sim contacts. Pls note that phone contacts load much faster than sim contacts. So just copy it to phone memory. And use it.

simple.....!!
see first of all keep the facebook for android" app on internal memory...its important othewise you will have to sync every time after the boot...to sync all your fb contact with phone.or to have all your FB contact on your phone you just have to go to settings of the Facebook app...press menu on the primary facebook page..and then select settings and their you'll find an option to sync your contacts...just select "sync all"... an their you go....DONE!!
and yes dont forget to join your existing phone contacts or gmail contacts to your FB contacts it can be done by open the contact you want to join/link > select editing contacts from menu > now again go to menu and their you will see option to join. and in the edit menu u'll also find NICK NAME bar just fill your friends nick name their and it'll be shown in every call/msg to you...
anmol, thats how to sync FB contacts. I wanted to do the opposit.
So I deleted all contacts. Including sim card ones =[
How can I add a conact to sim card for the phone to view them? I can only see the option of my google account of phone only, unsynced.
I prefer to keep all my conacts on my sim card, if something happens to my phone atleast I have the sim card!
CM just seems one big pain after an other!
Remb you have an sd too, back up contacts to sd. I think default contact manager on cm7 have no option to copy contacts to sim.

Aye thanks guys, noticed that it didn't actually delete the contacts off my sim card. Sure I tried to import off sim, either phone was having a hissy fit or I was being an idiot.
Got it all sorted now though!
Alright so I moved from a HTC G2(android phone) to the samsung focus s(windows phone) and tried to move my contacts over from my gmail account. All the contacts synced and i can see peoples names but most my contacts show no phone number. On gmail i can see their phone numbers but it wouldn't sync over. This is because windows phones do not sync contacts that are not WORK HOME MOBILE. most of my numbers were OTHER so it wouldn't sync over. I exported the contact list and edited the cell that says PHONE 1. I changed all the contacts that said other to mobile and re-synced gmail to windows phone and all the contacts went through. Now all the contacts have the phone numbers they're suppose to instead of being blank.
My next attempt!
Wipe current contact list.
Get old Droid phone. Go into contacts, click menu(bottom left usually) import/export. Export to SD card. It becomes 00000001.vcf by default. Now take that sdcard and insert into windows phone and import then in a way similar to the export.
Good luck
