Problems with o2 atom - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Problems i have with my new atom:
1- Can't connect to some wifi networks
2- It will auto restart sometimes
3- Feedback echos when using the phone
4- Will turn on by itself
Ha.....my main concerns are the first two problems.....i hope the o2 atom developers see these and perfect o2 atom.
It has been my object of desire....i really hope to exploit its full potential. Now....i have to see if the new ROM will resolve my predicaments with atom.
Anyone with the same problems? Or just list your problem with atom here.... Lets try to make atom a powerful device instead of just a white elephant (even though its black,ha)

Why am I selling my universal to ebay

You can see the item 9133392608 is for the sale to the ebay.
The reasons I would like to share with you are the following:
1. The unit is not very practical for business use.For example on the road you have to open the unit and press the stylus . Totaly impractical , I use to have a P910i and I could do any task (e.g. check my email) in 2 seconds.
2. Although the screen is VGA you cannot take advantage of it.
3. With any ROM i had tried (inluding latest DOPOD rom) , only with i-mate latest ROM i have 99.99% reliability.
4. The BT (JX-10) disconects sometimes with all the ROM i had tried.
5. It is like a PC (I have powerbook MAC tiger since 1 year) that needs formating once a week so it can work faster.
6. The 3G (UMTS) it's nice but OS it is a big bottleneck.
7. It cannot be sync MAC OS X without any issues (like my P910 use to). There is a sofware called missing sync in beta for WM5 but it doesn't work always.

2. you can use the VGA screen if you want to (its not easy though)
3. up to date stock info is more reliable then old info 8)
4. ..
5. its like a PC i can do everything i want on it.
6. i love having internet in the train
7. can sync with exchange server

1. If you don't know how to use it, it's very impractical yes.
But if you know how to use the keyboard, you can start any program and do everything without having to touch the stylus or the screen. It's perfect for in a car as I use it like that with a brodit carholder.
2. It has VGA and it's perfect for using remote control like www.logmein.com, I can connect to my homepc 640x480 full screen and start a download so when I come home it's finished, or check websites that don't work very well on Pocket internet explorer.
For as far the desktop of the pocketpc, who wants that in VGA mode all the time? it's way to small for that.
3. I use the latest QTek ROM and it has eveything I need like MSN, A2DP, AKU2 and is super stable. Nothing to complain.
4. I am using a bluetooth carkit supertooth II and a Bluetooth GPS at the same time without any problems.
5. It's like a PC I can watch series like southpark in the car with the sound coming from my car speakers with an FM transmitter. I watch videoclips, MSN, read email and the only time when I need to reinstall it is when I want to checkout another ROM.
6. The UMTS is perfect when my DSL is down, I connect my Universal as a modem and use the internet through the UMTS connection.
Download abut 45KB upload 7KB. Only for the low ping of 200-250ms it still is perfect for browsing and even downloading stuff.
7. Then stay with your P910 and your Mac. When you bought a Mac you knew you would have compatibillity issues with almost every program on the internet. Now the Universal doesn't work very well you balme the universal?
I am happy with my universal, and the complaints you are making has nothing to do with the universal. But with the user behind it .

Use Nokia HS 12w...Stereo BT,FM and caller ID...I hope this eliminates all the "impractical" things
Speed and reliability
This is the key for a business phone appart from practicality.
I loved the phone for the 3G / UMTS connection but Microsoft had prooved again how badly they design their OS.
I agree with you that it is cool but it is a gadget and gadgets are cool.
But if you want to be serious and do some work , you would wait , upgrade the ROM when a new version comes up , sync again ...and waste your time.
It is no suprise that companies who control the biggest of the mobile phone market they don't use the WM as an OS but symbian.
On the other hand I am very happy to read this forum and I would missed that .

Using the ROM of QTEK the BT JX-10 lost it's service and I had to re-enable it at the time that I was in a meeting.
With i-mate ROM i didn't had this issue but sometimes the voice was breaking up.

I don't know why that happens. If I were you I would do the following.
1. USe the houlx with another pocketpc to find out if the problem lies with the holux GPS or the Universal.
2. If it's the Universal upgrade to the latest ROM.
3. I use the Universal in my car with an active holder. So it's charging while I am using my GPS and the screen stays active. Maybe that has something to do with it but I doubt it. I use the Adapt 300 GPS by the way.

From your footer I see that you have a history with WM including VELO 1.
I had one too , and return it for a PSION and then PALM devices and never got a WM device only till recently.
FYI, the jasjar syncs with MAC OK with missing sync beta 2.5a10 .
I think I would go for an E61 nokia instead .
I just sold my O2 Exec on eBay too, for the same reasons -- not practical for business. Too "clunky" physically... OS and software too slow.

If a symbian OS mobile was using a 500Mhz processor than it would be able to make some coffee , wash the dishes ..etc.
WM5 mobiles are power / memory / system resources hungry .
Of course it always depends of the user , if you want the smallest notebook like a friend here wrote than it is the one.

Bluetooth Hands free not auto reconnect at WM6

Hi every body specially, Dear rom Cookers:
I have been tried all WM6 ROMs released here, all have this big problem in connection with blue tooth hands free devices: they connect briefly and good interconnection meanwhile the hands free is in the range after putting out the hands free device more than 3 minutes out of the distance range and then go back to distance range the connection cant recognized automatically between handset and hands free, this problem is common at all the cooked WM6 ROMs but not in the WM5 ROMs
This only (but very BIG and disappointing) problem of WM6 ROMs would u anybody please solve this big problem.
**** I tried all registry and software tricks not solved and only turning back to the WM5 solved this problem *****

Tomtom 6 is purposedly disable for the Tytn ??

Having just bought a Tytn I found that my tomtom 6 didn't work. I seemed to have two issues. 1) It hung up frequently and 2) It kept losing my external bluetooth GPS receiver.
I thought I'd go to Tomtom's page to see if there was a fix given that HTC mention this saying that Tomtom have updated version 6 for the device.
http://www.europe.htc.com/en/htctytn/support/faq.html?id=539&cat=applications
To my horror I I found this page which suggests that the device is not supported, never has been and never will be. The reason according to Tomtom is due to an agreement with HTC,
http://www.europe.htc.com/en/htctytn/support/faq.html?id=539&cat=applications
I am trying to catch up on this device so am swamped by data at the moment but this is a real blow to me as one of the main priorities is to run Tomtom 6. When I bought the device I assumed that it was just a pocket pc with a phone in it. Seemingly I am wrong as there appears to be differences with the hardware or Tomtom checks the device it's running on and presumably refuses to work properly.
Can anyone enlighten me as to how ( if at all to get around this issue). Currently my device still has mobile 5 but I am ploughing through the plethora of information on this site trying to figure out exactly what I should and shouldn't do. I've a lot of catching up to do..
Any advice / suggestions would be most welcome, it seems too strange a concept to be locked out of running a pc app just because of the hardware it's running on.
EDIT: Apologies moderator this probably shouldn't be posted in the wm6 thread even though I am intending to move over and would like to use tomtom on that. Please move it if necessary.

Try a search on the Hermes forum. I found lots of stuff.
I found THIS ONE . But there were MANY others. Some users reported success with some ROMs.
Don't fret, it works fine on mine... Are you running a WM6 image - you may wish to upgrade to wm6 if you're not. (or downgrade to TT5.....)
Treat the issue as 2 separate problems, bluetooth related loss of GPS unit, and the stability of the TT6 software.
There are any number of other applications that will let you connect and read signals from the GPS unit, try these to see if you have a faulty gps unit or if its TT playing up.
Once you're happy with this look at the TT issue.....
I have 2 Varios II and I can admit that I had some issues with TT6 with WM5. TT liked to freeze when I was typing in the address or browsing through menus. When I changed to WM5 AKU3.2 it was better, but still not perfect. Eventually, it was WM6 that helped me. Now TT6 is running without any issues (of course it can freeze from time to time when I have too many programmes running in the background). Just try any of new WM6 and everything should be fine.
I had TT5.21 which people said run fine which didnt on wm6 but TT6.1 works fine
Long time since i've been on here but while i was browsing about, i saw this problem. All i can suggest is using the inbuilt GPS and see how that works? I have TT6 as well and i have used it perfectly well on an XDA Mini, XDA Orbit, SPV M700, HTC Touch, HTC TyTn II... seems a bit odd that you're having these problems. Have you since cured the fault or is it still being a bit of a ****bag?!
While i'm here... anyone got the latest maps at all for TT6? Shout me on [email protected] if you have any info on TT6 or need any PDA / Pocket PC help.

Yeah, I had established that the gps was working fine, I've been happily using it on my ipaq 2210 for ages. Then with the Hermes testing with gpsgate and some other stuff showed no problems.
The problem I had was that my TT6 was a 2GB SD card version and I didn't have micro SD big enough to test it. I had about 1hour to play with my friend's one and that's when I discovered the two problems.
He lent me the card to play with this evening and I've made a little progress now. I've sorted the flakey GPS operation, primarily by changing the com port, deleting the pairing and pairing again. So far that's not dropped out since.
Tomtom runs but freezes, this appears to be a confirmed problem which I hope that WM6 will solve as (mean-machine) suggests.
I feel a lot happier that the damn thing runs at least. The freezing appears to be related to cpu usage as I find that that zooming right out on a map is a good way to cause this to happen. The menu screens can be a problem too and the rest appear intermittent. As others have stated in other threads, hitting the red button and then switching back to TT will free it up.
I guess the next thing is to study the Wiki and try an make sense of the order things need to be done to put WM6 in, which Rom if any, which version of WM6. ... Information overload, so I think I need to take it slow and ingest the data .
Thanks for all the replys guys, it amazes me how much support HTC has and how many of you are passionate about them. Up till a few months ago I had never heard of HTC, now I doubt I'd consider anything else.

TT6 w/Pharos and Holux recievers work great
I've an AT&T Tytn upgraded to WM6 and have no troubles with my Holux or Pharos receivers and TT6.
Everything works great EXCEPT issues with data connections such as TT Buddies or traffic. This isn't unique to the PDA version of the software though, as I also have a standalone TomTom GO 910 paired with the phone and it works almost okay as a bluetooth speaker phone, but constantly has trouble getting a good data connection.

I have used TT6 on my MDA VArio II (TyTn) for almost a year...no problem. Now I have the TyTn II
Same here.. been using Tom tom 6 on my Tytn since the day i installed wm6, no problems here, works like a charm!
HEAT???
I have been using TT6 on my Imate JASJAM running the DOPOD WM6 ROM without much trouble (no hanging etc). The only problem I am experiencing is huge power drain and the unit being physically hot when running TT. Maybe this power drain and potential overheating can cause some units to hang and playup, or potentially any unit given the right environment!
Anyone else finding their units getting a bit hot?
I've been using TT6 on my Tytn (MDA Vario II) almost one year now. No problems. Started using TT6 while running WM5, upgraded to WM6 (schaps rom), reinstalled TT6 and it just continued as before. No problems, no hangups no freezing. I've been using all kinds of different charts with TT6, so I don't think the problem is with TT.

Going to try your settings too, cause on all WM6 roms I tried I keep losing my GPS BT connection. I'm not damn sure it got nothing to do with TT6. But when I delete my gps and reconnect it while TT6 is up and running, TT will find the gps straight away. So imho it's the BT connection that fails and not TT.
It's really annoying though.
Cheers, M
I have been running TomTom Navigator 6 on my JASJAM for some time. The hanging problem described is probably caused by having all the Points Of Interest (POI) active.
Go into the TomTom settings menu and de-activate ALL the POIs. Try it, then only turn on the ones you actually require.

Doesn't work either. Seems that after a soft-reset the BT connection with my GPS is f*d. Very strange because the BT headset doesn't suffer any of this. Maybe time to buy a new GPS, but with WM5 I never experienced this behaviour.
I found that with tt6 you need to have the WM6 internal gps settings set to "None" for both program and hardware port. Then make sure the box is checked in the last tab so it autodetects the com ports. Once all this is set and you goto add a bluetooth gps device in tt6 it gives you the option to use com port 0. select this port and it should detect your gps unit with no probs. Been running tt6 on my 8525 with tnt's latest cooked rom and things couldn't be running smoother.
Edit: On another note. I used to use Telenav with my 8525 with the original at&t rom. I had the worst luck with that application. I would constantly lose my gps connect and I almost always had to do a soft-reset to get it working again. It is quite possible that Telenav was not the issue and that the particular rom I was using had bluetooth connection issues that were resolved when I switched to a cooked rom such as the tnt one. So for those using tt6 with BT connection problems you may want to try a different rom and see how your luck goes.

General question about losing connection while upgrading

I THINK this is a general question although it happens to me while trying to upgrade a BA. I have done lots of unlocking and flashing before and have a few Wizards as well as this BA. Unfortunately the BA forum doesn't seem to attract many senior members who might know the answer as I have asked it there. (Sorry to re-post)
I SIM unlocked to use T-Mobile with my Cingular SX66 to do a comparison with my Wizard to see how this BA performs: I can't figure out if this is an older unit (05 versus 06??) or a newer one (400 MHz rather than 190) and installed a ROM called Helmi, which has lots of features I don't need but which seemed to be the only WM6 ROM around for this unit (?). Unfortunately Helmi himself doesn't seem to use a BA any more so development of this otherwise quite good ROM seems to have stopped before he ironed out bugs.
Installation of Helmi went fine and without a hitch but worryingly (as I would like to test out VoIP on this unit) this BA wont connect to the Internet. WLAN is off by default and turning it on just flashes up a list of local WiFi LANs: It wont actually connect to any of them. It does take you through the steps and asks all the seemingly obvious questions and at the end of the process, it just doesn't connect. Even more annoyingly, every few minutes (or when it doesn't connect), it turns WLAN off again, so you don't really know when it did this (or, of course, why). It takes you through all the steps and then gives you the Configure Wireless Networks screen which shows all local networks which you KNOW to be available as "unavailable".
A cook called Xplode responded that there IS a problem with WiFi on the BA.
So I gave up on Helmi and tried installing a new one cooked by Xplode being cooked by a present BA user, presumably? Xplode's installation utility (which seems to be pretty standard across the HTC range, which is why I am asking here!) sees the BA and correctly identifies my unit and the Helmi OS. I then try to upgrade and with nothing changing on the BA, the computer stops seeing the unit and fails every time with Error 101. Sometimes if I try again it fails with Error 150. Rebooting doesn't seem to help. When it fails, curiously the upgrade utility hangs on the screen and the upgrade panel (with no progress of course) stays transparent in the foreground. I am using Windows XP and the original radio ROM as i cant see how the Radio could affect how the computer sees the BA.
Or is the BA just a buggy unit and should I stick with my Wizard? (I kinda like the thinness and size of the screen on the BA and wonder if VoIP might work better on a 400 MHz unit than a 190 MHz one?).
Does anyone recognise these disconnection-while-upgrading symptoms, or has anyone managed to get any of the Wizard WM6 ROMs working properly on the BA?
