Hi all, i need some help...
my push email was working fine when i first enabled it.
now i have this problem where i was getting error codes in exchange that there was a problem with the firewall timeout settings...so i changed the registry settings according to the knowledge base article...
but i still dont get a real push experience...
all i am getting it a sync when a 'heartbeat' sent.
emails are not being sent to my device at the emial arrives at my server...
does anyone know what might be wrong.
i cant remember if i had this working with the beta rom and the new official rom or just the beta rom.
My dlink firewall does not seem to have the ability to change timeout setting for HTTPS connections.
Try to delete the Exchange Server Account in your Universal, Enable DirectPush and recreate it.
- Disconnect the universal from PC.
- Delete the Exchange Account: Activesync/Menu/Options/Delete.
I suggest you manually delete your Contacts before recreating the Exchange server setttings otherwise all your contacs will be duplicated.
After you recreate & synchronize your Exchange server Account, try to Disable and Enable DirectPush.
I also had one funny issue with my Netgear router... I had to manually open ports (443&80), because the connection was timing-out on DMZ port.

I can't connect through PIE. Thanks,
You're going to have to give more info if you want any help. Config for OWA is very straightforward - just set up the http address of your OWA server in Activesync (option to sync with exchange server instead of locally) work through the options and then it activesync will work over the wireless data. That said, please make sure you read the various info sources for configuration before you ask a question thats answered elsewhere and get jumped on
If you have problems either risk it and post or PM me
lol, what possible reason would you have for accessing OWA on your Hermes...you should put it into ActiveSync on your phone for live push mail and auto updating contacts/calender etc. Unless you have a reason to NOT do this, i'm not understanding why you would want to use PIE to access OWA.

Only reason I can think of is access to Public Folders...?
I use OWA to access my work email system, occasionally.
Hermes Outlook actually syncs up with my own Exch2007 server.
Lets face it, we all use the device for different things in different ways...

I just get the message "error syncronizing" when I set it up in outlook or activesync. When I go back to check my settings the password is like 3 times longer than what i typed. "*************** instead of *******?

That's normal, the number of ****'s doesn't reflect the length of your password. You should re-check your login details and connection settings though....
Could it be some security setting my company has placed on the server?
To set up pocket outlook to sync with your exchange server you need the option on the exchange server to connect via SSL.
You also need to get a copy of the SSL certificate and install it to your device.
If you can already access your email through your outlook inbox on your PC through SSL (Not OWA, look through the accounts settings in outlook) you are halfway there. Just get the certificate and install it to your device.
Absolutely could be an issue on your company's server. Where I work they explicitily prevent access via the server. I spoke directly to the sys admins of the server and they said OH we do that for security purposes as we only support Blackberries... If you want your email get a blackberry... Sorry not gonna happen. So I too use OWA all the time..
I am currently using WM6 and am trying to get EMail through our Exchange server setup; however, my Dash s620 will not properly save the server's address.
The address for our OWA is (ex) mail.email.com:8888/exchange
and this address works fine in Internet Explorer etc, but when I enter this into the phone it removes the /exchange and only saves up to :8888, which then gives me "Error synchronizing" when trying to connect. Our Exchange server does have Exchange ActiveSync enabled along with Direct Push enabled.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
I think that you have to check your ActiveSync settings on Exchange. I know that Microsoft have a lot of KB's about that.
It does the same thing on mine, erases exchange, but mine is cool. Are you sure you are putting in the Domain?

Yeah I've tried every which way I could think of for the login credentials.
I'll sift through some more MS articles tomorrow afternoon, see if I can't find anything... baffled though, really.
K this is going to be a huge PITA I can tell.
I adjusted the Virtual Directory for the default web site in Exchange System manager to point directly to /exchange, eliminating the need for anything after the :8888. It works fine in IE etc, quickly brings up a login prompt. Using the phone's IE and going to the http://mail.email.com:8888 works fine, prompts a login accordingly...
I configured a coworkers Blackberry to use our OWA and it works fine, but I'm not sure if it uses Push Email (Exchange ActiveSync).
What is it about the Dash that won't mesh? The server is not using SSL so I couldn't see it being a certificate issue (maybe it still is?). Is there anyone around who manages an Exchange Server and could perhaps shed some light on common settings that need to be adjusted for Exchange ActiveSync?
Such a nuisance
ActiveSync on the phone reports "The server could not be reached. Please verify the server name." Support code: 0x80072EE7
It reports back with this no matter how I enter the address (which again, works fine in IE). Devil phone
8888 is definetly not standard for publishing ActiveSync.
the software will connect to either MailServer:80 if the SSL checkbox is cleared or MailServer:443 if the checkbox is checked.
don't think you'll get ActiveSync connect to something else.
Why don't you change your port back to 80?
you are already exposing your server to internet without any form of protection (no SSL so your password can be sniffed over the network) and having port 8888 buys you nothing in terms of security since any port scanner will report the port as opened and eventually get the HTTP banner from the IIS Server.
So, get back to a standard config and you'll love your DASH again.

I have a few email accounts set up in pocket-outlook, but always have to send/receive each separately when I have a wifi and also have to manually make ActiveSync sync to mail2web, why doesn't it do automatically? it would save a lot of effort..
I've been looking through all the settings, there's no option to get this done automatically :/ it's quite a drag..
can anyone point me in the right direction?
hmm
interested in this topic, with schaps advance config you can set to connect automatically to gprs, however ... wifi not so sure. Latest MSN with no IM also wakes up GPRS connection upon boot, and in a way activates the synchronisation of my web2mail exchange server. Wifi is a lot 'cheaper' hehe ... and I believe stock shipped ROM is able to do it at least on my bro's polaris wifi stays on after a soft reset, and doesn't die when in sleep mode either.
Will be keen for someone to have a cab file for this,....
i have the same issue.
what i did was to do it kind of half-automated:
create a shortcut to start sync so that you do not have to go into your email application and start sync from there.
Code:
20#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "Privat" -Sync
if you have more email accounts consider using mortscript.
still not sure how to start sync once a wifi connection has been established.
I had the same problem on 2 HTC Kaisers and now on my touch pro 2. In short my mail doesnt come through via 3G, only when i connect to a Wifi network. Whenever i try it always comes up with failing to connect to the windows live servers, a message i kept getting when i set the account up (until i did it via WIFI.
I have tried 2 hard resets and i still cant get the mail to come through, be it via the auto retreve or via the manual send/receive. I dont have any problems downloading stocks/shares or weather etc through 3G/HSDPA.
It seems to be doing it for both gmail & hotmail, but its the hotmail account im more interested in.
Can anyone recommend anything i could try to try and get my mail through/out?
Many thanks guys
Try using IMAP accounts for Gmail since that's what normally works. You should also specify SSL. As for Hotmail, I don't normally use it but you should be able to retrieve mail the same way.
Iv gone through the google settings and it is set up using IMAP, though i couldnt find any mention of SSL. As for the hotmail settings it wont let me enter the manual setup, all it does is sit there. If i delete the account and try and re add it, then go through the manual setup there, all it does is load up opera & log me into my web browser inbox.
I can only imagine it is to do with these settings so any advice on changing them would be greatly appreciated!
i've always had trouble with my hotmail and windows mobile (lol microsoft's own email service, go figure). there is a way to manually enter the settings. You have to set up a new email address; put the email address as: [email protected]. leave out a letter or something. it'll then take you to the manual set up. your incoming server is pop3.live.com. make sure you check SSL security. outgoing is going to be whatever cell provider you use or you can try smtp.live.com. good luck
Hi,
I'll be receiving my new toy next week and after being a HD2 user and growing tired of winmo I was hoping to have multiple exchange server support on the Desire.
According to android this is possible from 2.0.
However it seems HTC has disabled the function and only allows 1 exchange server to be entered.
My main reason for this setup would be to have my work e-mail and my google account ( mail/contact/calendar ) simultaniously on the phone.
Anybody got an idea how to get this working?
Perhaps a different app than the HTC mail application?
Any hints/tips would be appreciated
re: multiple Exchange server support
dirk07,
As far as I can see, there is no option for setting up more than one Exchange server in the Desire. As soon as you set up one Exchange account, when you try to add another account, "Exchange" is no longer in the list of options. However, you *can* have both Exchange and Gmail and numerous other mail accounts set up at the same time, which sounds like it would work for you. You normally would not access your Google account as an Exchange server, would you?
John
True..
However the reason I want to sync my gmail with exchange is cause I also need my contacts and calendar from them..
the work e-mail would need to be exchange as it is the only way I can reach it .. ( no imap/pop access )
Would it be possilbe when disableing sense?
or use something else to sync contacts/calendar?
Your contacts and calendar will come over automatically from your Google account (when you set up the phone, you provide your Google account details). You don't need anything related to Exchange to make your Google stuff synch - that is built into Android. I have a setup just like you, my work email comes across via Exchange, and the Google stuff comes across as well (contacts/calendar/mail) via the Google account setup on the phone.
John
Syncing contacts with more than one source is always a bad idea. I tried this on WinMo with exchange and windows live and found a couple of issues which you are likely to run into with exchange/gmail sync. They are:
1) Exchange sees the entries from live as unique, different entries resulting in duplicate contacts.
2) If you delete an entry from one source, it gets 'revived' when next sync with the other source.
There may be fixes for these issues now but I gave up on it long ago and use my exchange contacts folder as the source of truth.
Im pretty sure you would have experienced these problems before... just adding my 2p
Edit: forgot to mention - without sense, I don't even think you can sync contacts?? Anyone confirm?
@bcmobile
well i would only be syncing mail from one source and mail/contacts/calendar from another
I allready make a point of only keeping my contacts/calendar on one list so I dont get duplicates etc..
@jstegeman
I hope this works If google mail/contacts/calendar syncs by default I indeed would be able to add work mail as my one exchange source..
Guess I wont be able to test untill friday
you can definately have both setup i.e. exchange / gmail as i have. I only have contacts in exchange though. I have also setup gmail so can see emails from there also.
OK guys i thought i would summarise my battle with the energy ROM and activesync/sense 2.5 for my hd2
Previous i had o2 Uk's stock rom, it was ok, but my main mod was to pull email, contacts and calendar off my exchange server and sync the calendar and contacts with my google account through activesync. I used the EnableNonLocalCrossPolination method (ENLCP)to do this.
When i install this ROM i had one problem, the registry key ENLCP was not there. So i entered it and attempted the same trick. However sense would not let me add another activesync account.
Firstly i wiped the phone, then i went in and pair my phone with activesync on my pc. This would enable the ENLCP reg key that i was looking for. I then disconnected the phone, checked the ENLCP reg key on the phone, set it to 1, and then deleted the PC active sync profile on the phone and pc.
After another soft reset i disable sense from the home screen. Another soft reset.
On the next boot i enter the options for googles exchange server (m.google.com) and only ticked the contacts. These sync'd ok. I think enter microsofts email client and enter the 2nd exchange server. Here i only set it to sync my email. I then tested both exchange servers in activesync. They worked!
So i enabled calendar and contacts on both exchange servers and only email on one of them. This again sync'd great. I re-enalbed sense and did another soft reset for good measure.
Sense picked up the email exchange server, but not the google one! Great! Now i add the googlemail email as an imap account through sense and i am done.
Hopefully this helps someone as i have initially struggled with this ROM.
