how to remove useless ROM files from windows folder? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

i wonder if this is possible,
to remove useless ROM files from windows folder? i found a lot of dog barking multimedia crap, i estimated it to be around 9MB ????
is this possible ????
i tried the raw rom editor tool on another thread but it didnt work on the new rom for jasjar
thanks

yes. cook your own rom as well explained in earlier posts.
->convert the nkf files
->dump the extracted fat file
*rid out the junk properly, rgu dsm hv _...
-<compile digged out dump
-<reconvert to nkf
*flash
*have many precious megs free

tryed so but failed as the new rom was not supported
tryed so but failed as the new rom was not supported by the buildimgfs.exe tool , neither did the delfile.exe tool did work also :?
any other ways to cook rom ?
any way to delete files directly from the installed rom ????
many thanks

What did you try because cooking a universal rom does.
make_imgfs.exe dumps the splitted binary rom file. It can dump the .bin file you splitted using prepare_imgfs.exe.
Buildimgfs on the other hand rebuilds the dump directory to the binary rom file.
I suppose you do something wrong.

2 success , 2 failure
i did make_imgfs.exe : successfully .
then prepare_imgfs.exe. : successfully
but Buildimgfs : failed,
and delfile.exe also failed ...
the programer said these might not support the new rom.
i donno wat to do now ???
many thans

the os image is compressed so you might not be able to gain as much storage as u think... however if you do then let us know as well

Where...
Where this the earlier post????
Gracias...

AtomLife ROMs extract! Help pls

Hi all,
I am trying to port the mediaplus from AtomLife ROMs which has the second version of mediaplus with icons in circle.
I was successfull in extracting the imgfs.bin but there is onemore file ExROM.img which is not giving up.
I Tried
1. winimage
2. extended drive creator
3. scooter kitchen tools
but i am not able to look into the contents, it has the required _QHiddenPartition directory which has all the theme and image files for FMRadio/Mediaplus and Equaliser.
can anybody help me .
regards
Shreedhara
Mediaplus is very tricky..the images are in Ext ROM..but the links to executables are somewhere from the XIP section..any way keep working
Well
I don't think u understand my problem.
I was able to run the Mediaplus(v1.0) app on my Eten M700 earlier when I had WM5 on my eten.
But after I changed it to WM6, I want something new and hence I am trying to get the Atom Life Mediaplus (v2.0), which is better looking than the earlier one.
But SInce the latest ROM's from O2 have differenct format
It contains
lot of asm.mbss files (Motherboard assembly ) and FLASH.DIO and ExROM.img
with XLDR.nb and EBoot.nb0 files also.
But that Extended rom is hardnut to crack, it does not open at all for any tools we have here.
That'swhy I asked for help, so that I can extract it.

Merging all the RGU to Default.hv ??

Hello there.
well, i'm trying to cook a new version of my ROM, but i have sawn on Fanman release that there's no RGU files...
Because he seems to have merged all of them in the default.hv.
I've tried, but many keys disappear when flashing it to phone...
Have you got any ideas ?
Thanks
Best regards
What kitchen are you using to cook the rom? I've been using the Core Pro kitchen but noticed that none of the changes I made to the .hv files were being included in the cooked rom so this would explain why none of yours are either. For now stick all the changes into 1 rgu file, will be much easier to insert into the hives once it is working again that way I'd imagine.
one or more .rgu, each one under a OEM subfolder, will do the trick...
do not forget their corresponding empty .dsm file !

Is that not what he already has tho? I thought the point of his post was how to get all the rgu files into the hives but since this is not currently possible (as far as I am aware, kitchen dependant of course) he may as well place them all into one rgu file.
yep, all changes are not tooked in the hv files, i wanna have only the hives to gain more spaces...
I'll try again

No more RGU = More space on ROM
This evening, i tried to copy HV after buildos and before createrom, but nothing more....
And when i looked on the temp folder of kitchen, the hv files are really small and doesn't include the hv files in sys\metadata...
Really strange, it seems that modifications in the hives of sys\metadata are not included in final rom ?!

small benefit however !
why not to stay with markquinton's recommendation : place all you updates into one rgu file.
So, i finally make it work but strangely i have more memory but software couldn't start and claim an memory error...
I can't even access to program folder
Anybody don't know why ?!
Thanks

i'm online now...!
Has anyone managed to successfully edit the hive files and have the changes included in their built rom? As I've been playing around with this for a while but have as yet still not managed it. I'm getting annoyed with having to set a lot of default settings in rgu files when they could easily be included in the hives from the start.

Help : IPAQ Dumping Rom and nbf vs nb0

Hello , I need to dump the rom of my hx2750 without risking to break up it .
I've seen there is a tool called grab_it .
I'm asking you if someone has already tried it on an ipaq hx2000 series .
Another question reguarding rom dumping : is it possible to dump it directly on my hard disk ? how could i do ?
And the last thing : I've read that the .nbf rom extension is not made to restore bricked ipaqs , but a .nb0 rom file exists for that .
The .nb0 seems to be obtained from the .nbf rom file , editing it with a hex editor , cutting off some bytes from the beginning of the rom . Anyone of you could explain me how many bytes must i remove to obtain a nb0 file from my ipaq's hx2750 nbf ? Also , if you know something general , please write it , I need as much information as possible reguarding my questions .
Thanks in advance .
This is based on 4pda.ru info about hx2xxx series rom cooking:

hmmm....from what I can see , the procedure reguards only cooking a rom already obtained ( from the device or the Hp site ) .
I need to grab my rom from my device , and to convert it into an .nbf or .nb0 file that can be used into an identical , but bricked , hx2750 .
Somewhere in the forum there is an application called testWM5, and this app extract the rom files from the device to a dump folder. Maybe this can help you.
Thanks man , i've found a tool called grab_it .
Anyway , it creates automatically a rom image on the sd-card .
Once i've created it , what am I supposed to do ?
I would like to copy it in my Hard disk , and eventually to re-dump it in my ipaq .
But I don't how to do it .
I've heard also that .nb0files can be obtained from .nbf ones , but i don't know how many bytes remove for my ipaq hx2750
The link that I give you above contains a program that convert the nbf file, to a format that lets you edit the rom. The link contains istructions for cooking with imgfs tools. I found here before a cupple of days and a kitchen for hx4700, and I think that can ve used and for hx2000 series cause as i saw uses the imgfs and mamach tools.

Help:How to dump wm6 rom of hx2000

Hi all!
This is my first post here.
I have upgraded my 2415 to wm6 (PDAVIET version) and it is grade!
But I still want to make some modification of it, to delete some build-in tools, to get Chinese support and ....... I want to cook my own rom base on this rom.
However, I can not dump a full pdaviet rom folder when I used all the tools I can find in internet.
The command I used:
"prepare_imgfs nk.nbf"----------->break the nk.nbf file into two BIN files
"viewimgfs imgfs_raw_data.bin"------------>can not finish the procedure and pop up the error (Unknown header type and some address issues)
I suspect that some passwords or others should be add after the command of "prepare_imgfs nk.nbf".
Anyone can help me to fix it?
Hello,
You need first to convert your nbf file to nba with HP2000_tool.
Tutorial here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330034
Laurent
Thanks a lot !
Actually,I have followed that tutorial and downloaded the tools, but also failed.
Now, with the help of you lucky man, I did it.

Samsung i780 kitchen - release 0.2 BETA (New Version!)

PLEASE NOTICE THAT THIS KITCHEN IS A VERY EARLY BETA AS IT HAS NOT BEEN DEEPLY TESTED
*** USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK! I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY! ***
Hi guys,
after many days of testing I'm releasing my kitchen for i780.
It is very basic: no gui, only batch Windows scripts.
What you can do with this kitchen:
A) Convert your Part02.raw dumped rom to bin flashable PDA rom
B) Create a dump folder to cook your own rom and recreate a bin flashable PDA file.
Please notice that there's no tool included to edit, add or delete modules and files from rom dump.
You must use one of the tools available here in forum to do this or do this by hand.
Donwload the zip file and extract everything.
READ CAREFULLY THE README FILE IN THE ZIP ARCHIVE
This file explains how the procedures work and what you need.
PLEASE TEST THIS KITCHEN AND REPORT YOUR RESULTS
I thank chaimd for his bintonb0 tool, tadzio for his tools and Juggler for conv3 sourcecode.
I also thank Topogigi for his original procedure.
I modified conv3 tool to make it work with i780 rom files and made split and merge tools.
If you want to try this kitchen, I thank you!
If any guru in the forum wants to make a gui for this kitchen or insert tools for module, file and registry editing (like the ones you can find in other kitchens), it would be appreciated.
Issue 1: it seems there's a problem with Part02.raw conversion. It screws up connection settings. Problem is being investigated.
[Partial solution]: it seems that this problem is due to both size and language: I used an English rom to convert an Italian Part02.raw.
Using an Italian rom seems to solve the problem. But you must check the new rom size: if it's too big it gets cut down and it doesn't work.
Version 0.2: this version contains a new conv3 release. This release it's a little bit more complicated than the previous one but it supports a wider variety of rom images and guarantees correct conversions. Previous release could lead to incorrect roms so you should consider it as deprecated.
For Issue 1, limitations are still the same: you should use a rom of the same language of the dump and mind the result size
this is just great
great job
great effort for the great device.
I will try for sure, thanks a lot
Recreate???
At first thanks for the kitchen!!!
But I got one question... How can I rebuild the dump folder and what files are needed in the kitchen directory to recreate???
Do I just have to start RecreateBin.bat and it uses the files from the dump-directory???
THANKS!!

You must read the PDF file in the kitchen directory. Some parameters may change according to the ROME used
Hi Famusc,
Great Kitchen!
I have some questions before I can try your kitchen.
In the PDF you mentioned, an existing bin PDA ROM, what do you mean by that and how to get it? I have E1 ROM .raw files with me but not the .bin file.
Cheers,
Vibranze

Hi,
Existing bin file will be used as a model ton convert your raw file. Famusc said that the bin file must be the largest possible. So far, we use the D1 bin file. The probleme is E1 raw file part is larger than D1 bin file.
There may also have concerns related to the language of ROM file. I try to cook a French raw file with an UK D1 rom, and the result is a broken ROM
Hi Eunjea & Webise,
Thanks for the explanation.
My current stock ROM is D1 and how to convert it to .bin format if I want to use mine?
Actually I always use English ROM and replace the wince.nls and add some fonts to support Chinese reading
Btw, how do I know what is the value for first jump, footer start and footer checksum address? In the PDF, the first jump address is on 444400 and in my bintonb0.txt I also have 444400, can I follow the same address?
Cheers,
Vibranze

I just want to backup my ROM which is built by my operator so that if I have problems with the upgrade I can always go back to my original ROM.
How can I create the bin files for te part 1 and 3?
Can anyone advise, as there is no bin file for the Omnia this kitchen will not be compatible, right? Or is there a way to create one?
I managed to dump an Dutch rom, version E1.. Could you explain how I can make a flashable image for the complete rom and/or how to make a radio rom from the three parts I dumped?
Furthermore, i have had some issues when I dumped the rom with the instructions that were in the readme.pdf.
There are some connection problems, that the originally phone doesnt have..when I flashed my rom, there werent any connection settings visible. e.g. settings > connections > connections > advanced > select networks, here was nothing visible.
It seems a bit like the same problem that people had with the english dumped E1 rom. Is there a chance that certain files from the raw files werent correctly put in the i780_flashable.bin (final product) ?
Is this the latest version of famusc's kitchen?
