i-Mate PDA2K - Reboot problem - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi, I have an iMate PDA2k which is just over a year old. The performance over the last couple of months has been degrading and required several soft resets a day. yesterday this has culminated in the device constantly freezing and when a soft reset is applied, the initial Blue Screen is displayed showing Radio versions etc, this then transitions to a blue screen with just iMate on it and the device sticks in this state. It can only be reversed by a hard reset, which will be fine until a further soft reset is required and the process reverts.
I have upgraded the ROM to the latest version (yesterday - successfully) available on the IMate website and also applied the uni-directional radio fix from same source.
can anyone advise?
System WM 2003, on Vodaphone with standard GPRS settings applied.
I have a 1Gb SD card with TomTom 5.21 loaded which all functioned ok until this week.
Thanks in advance.

Anyone any ideas or can provide any help?!?!

ROM Upgrade of Imate-Jam (O2 XDA2 Mini) Failure, HELP!!!

Dear all,
I just got my imate jam (sold in Telstra shop in Australia) on last Friday, yesterday, I tried to upgrade the ROM as followed the instructions from http://www.clubimate.com/.
As imate jam has only one USB port which is connected to PC (Microsoft Active Sync 3.8) and there is no cradle, only 30s after I tried to update the ROM, then the USB is disconnected suddenly, and after that my Imate Jam has a black screen (it's like the backlight has been set to the lowest setting). I can see the word Serial 1.0, and if I try to connect to the USB again, it will display USB 1.0. Nothing more than that. Soft or Hard Reset doesn't change anything
Anyone knows how to bring it back to life, otherwise, I will return to the Shop since I only bought it for 3 days, hopefully, they will give me a new unit to replace this "dead" Jam
When I did the upgrade, the battery is at 100%, so there is enough power, but I can't understand why.
The ROM & Instruction are download from the page
http://www.clubimate.com/index.asp?PageAction=JAM
I've downloaded the Generic version of the ROM with the name ma_cdlsku1_wwe_10300_143_10100_ship.exe (28 MB)
with the following information :
The details of the current ROM image (found under Start -> Settings -> Device Info):
Rom version 1.03.00 WWE
Radio version 1.01.00
ExtROM version 1.03.143 WWE (Generic)
(PS. Sorry you may not be able to see that particular page and instruction if you are not a member for that site)
Any suggestions are highly appreciated.
Cheers
Wallace
PS. One more question, how likely is it for the Imate Jam / O2 XDA2 Mini to upgrade to Windows 2005 Mobile once it is available??
You are luckily in the Bootloader mode. I crashed during my PDA2K upgrade and found settings to get it into Bootloader mode and the upgrade was able to rerun and put the ROMs back in place. Try disconnecting, rebooting your PC (start clean), then, with the Jam in Bootloader mode still, relaunch the upgrade utility. Let me know if that works.
Also, do a search here on how to get the Bootloader to launch on your JAM if you need to pull your battery and power it back up again to it.
Oops ...
I've returned my imate Jam to the shop, and for some reason, they can do a hard reset on the phone (which I tried to press the power button and the reset buttons many times before), and so the screen comes up ...
And of course I told them I lost confidence in the phone blah blah ... and I want to replace a new phone ... So now they have sent my phone back to Telstra and need the Telecom's approval for a replacement unit ...
Once they approve it (it takes a week they said), I will ask for an O2 XDAII Mini instead. As in Australia, the imate phone has been customized by Telstra so it will by default shows the ugly logo of Telstra, whereas O2 will still display O2, and it has the options to choose which provider under "programs" ...
In the first 2 days, I need to soft reset the imate jam quite a number of times, I set the password so after the phone is unused, it will be locked ... but sometimes when I tried to unlock it, I couldn't ... I mean the number pad (virtually in the screen) has no reaction when I pressed it ... so I was forced to reset the imate jam a number of times, I suspect it might be problems from Telstra's customisation to the phone, but anything can happen so I just guess ...
Hope to get a new replacement phone soon ... as I only got the phone for 3 days ...

Bluetooth manager doesn't start until I soft reset

Hi all,
I have a strange problem: bluetooth manager works fine after a soft reset. I can my PPC the whole day and it will always start normally (read: the screen that shows BT shortcuts shows up). The problem occurs when I turn off the phone over night (flight mode). The next day I can't get the BT manager to show the shortcuts screen - BT can be switched on and off but neither the BT manager or the BT settings screen will show up (there is no error message!!!). After I do a soft reset everything starts working...
Has anyone come across this kind of a problem in the past? I couldn't find anything using search on this forum...
My device info is (DutchRetail ROM):
ROM: 1.40.00 WWE
Radio: 1.13.00
Ext ROM: 1.40.556 WWE
I have tried uninstalling almost all extra software that I have installed after a hard reset but the issue is still here.
Thanks for all suggestions on what else I can try.
Hi Poga,
Yep, I get exactly the same problem :-(

ROM (i-Mate) 1.40.00 WWE

ExtROM 1.40.176

Do either of you have Goodlink software on your device?
same problem no goodlink
Same problem but no goodlink software
I also get another funny problem where sometimes I go to connect to my bluetooth access point from my phone and it just has the little pie icon saying it's doing something, then it stops and it hasn't connected (the connection icon stays the same) and I can't make any sort of connection. It then does this everytime I try to connect.
I don't know how i fix it, but I combination of many soft resets various flight mode turn ons and fiddling it eventually works. It's very frustrating and it's happened on every software version. Right now i"m running 2.04.00. I have a CDMA from Telecom NZ running radio HA_01_151 right now (but I've tried other radios).
Somebody else had this problem I noticed but nobody replied to his posts.
I've got the same problem I hope someday that someone makes a fix for it. I run the XDA IIs BlueAngel 1.40.00 Asian O2 ROM WWE. =/.
Same problem here - only solution I had was to go into settings/memory and then stop all programs running - then the bluetooth manager appears without the need for a softboot..
Pain in the arse. :!:

I do and I have the same problem. I've been suspecting that it may have something to do with that because when I reset and I can start the manager just fine before I start Goodlink, but after I start goodlink it's a pain. Once, I tried to start BT manager then it didnt... i forgot all about it then suddenly some 11 hours later it just popped up by itself. Goodlink had been running continuously.
Any ideas???
I sometimes have the same effect.
What I usually do to resolve it (without soft reset):
- I installed PocketNav (kills programs which run in the background)
- I select 'Close all but Ative' in PocketNav
Then the Bluetooth Manager works again.
Hope it helps.

This is due to memory limitation in WM2003SE. When it finds that the memory is not sufficient it wont run Bluetooth Manager or Wifi. I had this problem a lot until i have shifted to WM5 which has more than 100 mb when the device starts. I guess that is why M$ has built WM5 for that reason and also for persisten storage of course.
The "memory limitation" is indirectly the problem. The Goodlink, which is more than three times the memory hog as any other 3rd party app out there, is the direct problem. I could write a college discertation on the amount of bugs in this awful software. And yes, it is good for push email...but at the expense of everything else that is good about these multimedia devices we own. The typical "close-when-you-tap-the-X" software utilities don't shut down Goodlink on my device even though they successfully shut down every other software I own (over 40 titles). So I have to use MemMaid to kill its process. But Goodlink will restore itself in a matter of minutes as it ventures out to the server looking to synch mail, calendar, contacts. If there was ever a reason to bring back public hangings, it would be for the Goodlink windows OS development team.
I don't really see any issues with Goodlink eating my memory. Then again, I've converted from a strictly fun user to a strictly business user so the whole gaming and multimedia thing doesn't quite do it for me anymore.
Steiner,
I tried PocketNav to see if it would truly close GoodApp.exe. Although it does seem to shut the application down, the 6+MB exe still is open in memory. Using MemMaid it shows that it never really closes.
I also didn't have the Goodlink software installed . My solution to the problem was: I installed the Sprite Backup software and set it to automatically restart my PPC @ 6 am after creating a backup. So in a way, this problem was very benifical to me - I now have a fresh backup of all the software every morning and the device reboots every morning without my intervention (no BT errors, no WiFi errors, etc).

Sync Sluggish then Suddenly my Qtek 9000 no longer works

Hi Guys/Gals
Before I return my device for warranty repair I thought I'd check out if anyone else has had this problem, and whether there is a simple fix.
My device has been running flawlessly (well almost) since I installed the latest Qtek ROM up until the following episode:
I sync with 2 PC's and noticed a couple of days ago that when syncing with one of these, the sync went on all day. I therefore 'soft reset' the device as this normally solves these sort of problems but the device failed to reboot.
After numerous 'soft resets' without success, I tried a hard reset, which gave me the 'push 0 to reset... x to exit' options and I slected 0 to hard reset. Still no reboot/response from the device. Then I tried the 'x to exit' option... nothing.
Removed SD Card/SIM and tried all the above again...and again... and again, all to no effect the device appeared dead other than for giving me the 'push 0 to reset... x to exit' options. No charging light etc.
So I tried to 'reflash'. The device successfully enters 'bootloader' (USB mode) and when I run the MauUpgradeNOID I get the message that my device is about to be upgraded to etc etc, then get the 'updating radio' progress bar as normal with the device screen also indicating that the 'radio stack is being upgraded...please wait' screen. As expected the software kicks me out with 'country ID error'. If I persevere and rerun the software I get back to the 'upgrading radio' bit and then it just sits there... for hours...
My device has (had) the latest Qtek ROM, with unlocked ExtendedROM where I installed just Wisbar and PhoneAlarm. Most of my other software running from SD Card.
I am completely frustrated!!! Can anybody help, or do you think this is a 'warranty' return issue?
ROM version: 1.30.77 WWE QTEK
ROM date: 02/20/06
Radio version: 1.09.00
Protocol version: 42.42.P8

(Solved) IMEI changed to NILL (nothing) after flashing

I've a weird thing after flashing to the ROM 0.75 Full of bepe.
After some configuring and installing programs and 2 soft resets, the IMEI number was completely gone (Device information -> indentity). I found out because TomTom didn't recognize my map anymore.
It's not the ROM I think, because after flashing again the number is back to the original IMEI.
Have anyone seen this before?
Note: 99% sure that this has been caused by the McAfee Virusscan Enterprise 8.5i, module Access Protection. When I turn the VirusScan off, the IMEI stays after flashing.
which programs did you install, I also use bepe 0.75, no problems so far.
This happens to me every other soft reset
IMEI and device serial number both turn blank. Installed and registered programs (like hebre support) go into inactive mode due to registration failue. So I soft reset again and again until it works (2-3 time in average).
I use Indigo full but I guess it's common to all WM6 and has to do with some marginal timing issues with the hardware, coupled with some new firmware (WM6) that reads the data from flash too soon.
same happens to me in pdaviet rom but with bepe works fine

I install the programs which are in my signature, but the device hang once. I did a soft reset.
See 1st post.
TomTom traffic
Hallo stingray,
your TomTom original traffic works on this bepe Rom?
Greats Remo
Hmmm.... How does McAfee have anything to do with IMEI? I had this problem but have Trend AV SW on my PC....
Stingray,
are you sure it's McAfee?
I'm also using McAfee Virusscan Enterprise 8.5i with Access Protection (I had the Traffics Subscription issues)
Could this be causing the Device ID to change with some ROMS? IMEI is one of the things used to generate device ID isn't it?
This has got to be too coincidental to be ignored....but then again I flashed my phone about 3 times the other night, and thinking about it, it was on my laptop with no Mcafee OAS......Only mUn TE keeps working TT device ID

Loox N520 stuck on startup screen

Ok this is what i have done and what has happened.
I've had the n520 for a year now with WM 5, have been reading this and other forums RE upgrading to WM 6 etc. I took the plunge using "greymans" ROM from here xda forums, sorry I am unable to post the link
COLOR="blue"]WM 6.1 CE 5.2.19974 (Build 19974.1.2.8) Eng[/COLOR] The ROM worked fine , I re-installed all my old programs "great" no problems.
Included in the ROM is a program from "NEWPLOW" called tuneup, I was experimenting with the settings when I selected under the GPS tag SIRF 2, the loox requested a reboot which i did.
The loox N520 now rebbots only to the splash creen and no further, ie. the mountain walkers. with a small black line 3 mm wide about 2 cm up from the bottom left hand corner.
I have tried a hard reset and i get to the dolphins with the numbers
1.20.G4
1.20 Displayed.
Have tried connecting to the pc but active synch fails to recognise the device.
Finnaly my question, IS IT BRICKED? Or can it be salvaged.
Any advice gratfully recieved.
Cheers Williamsfan
all sorted
Did you solve this problem (reboots only to the splash screen)? I have the same thing ...
Thanks
David
