Whenever I connect my jasjar to gprs anyone trying to call me gets a "User not reachable" message.
I contacted my service provider and they told me that this is because all the four incoming ports are busy in data transfer that is why a user not reachable message is played.
This is a very big problem for me as I m connected to net most of the times and also dont want to miss any calls
Hoping someone has a solution.........
I had the same problem the other day on my XDA IIi, family trying to call and not getting through but i was playing around a lot on the web. I nearly always have my GPRS connected and usually don't have any problem receiving calls, must be just because i was downloading at the time.
Hey, there is a registry hack in the wiki about keeping gprs open all then time. Would there be another possible to keep one channel open for gsm all the time ??
regards,
Ruud
unfortunatly, this is the radio design or limitations of most gsm radios. It uses a radio that can only have GPRS active or Voice active. If you can use utms, you can have both utms and voice active.
It is only an issue when data is actually active (downloading or surfing) . Its ok if gprs is connected, only problem is when it is actually transmitting or receiving...
there is currently no utms network available at my place right now
Is there any way to keep one of the ports free for recieving voice calls only while others can take gprs data
Hi Pankaj bhai,
Assuming the signal strength is good...U will receive a call while u are surfing the net...but not when downloading any file...I use "GPRS Always ON" and I do not face any problems receving the calls.
Are you Airtel? I had this problem - when I was in Delhi - Had to call and ask them for FULL service.
Seems that they have partial GPRS and full GPRS.
Class 2 ( ithink this is what it is called) means that data call will be dropped when voice comes in - so if you are doing anything on web/dl - it should stop to give way for voice - which is not happening in your case.
I love UMTS - you can do both - my emails keep on arriving even when i am talking on phone.
ya nitin i m on airtel
I had complained to them regarding this bt they said this is a limitation with gprs technology and presently there is no solution
I dont have a prob while i m connected bt i dont recieve calls when downloading data.
by the way which umts u r using
No - the way GPRS is designed, data is bumped off when you get voice call. Those people at Airtel didnot know anything - so you have to keep on pressing. It was more than 1 year back in Delhi. Its called class 10 service (I think - not class b or c as i wrote earlier). That time there were 2 kinds of GPRS - 150rs (which they advertised and was crippled) and a hidden 499rs one. Its all about the number of channels used (sorry - I have not updated myself on 2.5G)
In short - you got to ask them - getting engage tone when you are using data is not service - Airtel is not giving you proper service. Ask softly first - then rudely (thats the only way they listen)
I am in Dubai - using Etisalat UMTS.
I am too with Airtel and that 150 Rs unlimited..using since 2002...In all these days with various cell phones...I found that receiving a call depends on the GPRS signal strength..if it is good...i still can receive tha call..I hv been able to receive a call while d/l from web.
Nitin is right people at Airtel are usless(Gadhe hai sale)
thanx 4 help guys
I now know what to ask for
probably i ll b able to get the full service now
But guys u r damn rite most of the ppl at airtel r idiots they r nt taught anything except talking blah blah
thats wht i love bout this forum nice helpfull ppl everywhere

I've had all three HTC products and really love the IIs. I also have a T-Mobile branded IPAQ 6315. On the IPAQ, I'm able to use GPRS to surf the net, and at the same time I can place calls, which is really helpful because I can view the screen while surfing and have the speaker-phone on so I can talk and look at the screen at the same time.
When using the IIs, I'm only able to use one at a time, or so it seems. Does the IIs have the capability of using both at the same time like the IPAQ? The IIs I bought has never been locked and was purchased new.
Thanks for your help, I live in the States.
Good question...
Any answer...
Come on we can't let HP beat us on this!
Hi,
well, this kind of feature will most likely never be available to an XDAIIs/MDAIII. What determines whether that is possible is the class of GSM chip being used. The iPAQ 6315 appears to be using a Class A chip, whereas the XDAIIs/MDAIII seems to have a Class B chip (http://www.gsmworld.com/technology/gprs/class.shtml).
Treo
It only works after the page is finished loading.
Is your HP a CDMA version orGSM?
On GSM, you can't do GPRS and Voice at the same time - GPRS is suspended. Technology limitation.
UMTS you can, and I think CDMA2000

As said above: http://www.gsmworld.com/technology/gprs/class.shtml. You can with Class A.
On my motorola phones the phone rings and the gprs stops. On the pda2k it just merrily keeps working and the phonecall goes to voicemail.
This is something I'd actually like to turn off as I prefer being interrupted if someone is trying to get hold of me.
Anyone know how its done?

Very clever - this is a TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION.
Can you name ONE device that is GPRS Class A?
For the other user - GPRS has been setup by most operators to be a secondary service, or in other words, a GSM call should go through. The only time this won't happen is if you are intensely receiving data for >2s, eg like during a mail sync or ftp download, where the GPRS modem is going flat out
it doesn't work
I used to use it with t-mobile on the 6315, and costumer service told me that it will never work, hardware limitations!
In fact every time i was online, I will miss calls and the will go to voicemail, not even ring!
I was hoping for it too!
   I am looking for the same answer as well. Is there a settings on the IIs so that I could either take the call or deny the call while I am on GRPS session?
With the SE P910i it will do that with some tweeking on the connection name that may be specific to my operator (FIDO).
I used the following connection name on the P910i everything works perfectly afterwards:
<account name>
However, the PocketPC OS do not like <> characters in the connection name.

Sony Ericsson P900 (my previous phone)
If you put GPRS/GSM on auto it quite happily let you do both at once. Occasionaly it warned you that outgoing phonecalls would suspend GPRS and likewise it dropped them on incoming calls, but 95% of the time I could surf+talk at the same time :-(
Ok. i bought an XDA2s a while back, and modified the rom to the latest iMate rom. on the irish o2 site (where i bought the phone), in the XDA2s FAQs page (http://web.o2.ie/business/phones_and_devices/xda/xda2s/faqs.jsp) (number 2) they state that you cannot recieve calls when your downloading from GPRS. my question is: Is this a network problem or is it a device thing? i have moved network (Vodafone Ireland). i have not had a chance to try it out, but i just wanted to find out if anyone knows. My reason for asking is if there ever is a release of windows mobile 5 for the BA and you use it talking to exchange for the push email, will you ever be able to get a phone call?
It's a device limitation. Phone calls always supersede GPRS so your GPRS connection will be temporarily cut off when you get a phone call.
So, the device will kill the GPRS connection when a call comes in so i can answer the call? Well then O2s FAQ is wrong then. both cannot be used, but the phone will ring and not transfer to the message minder. sweet. thats what i wanted to know.
Thanks!
I have an MDA C3. When web & walk is transferring internet Data and a call comes in, the phone does not ring. It goes directly to the voicemail.
T-Mobile customer service tell me that this is correct as you can either transfer internet data or make a call.
Is that right? I thought that was with WAP which is analagous to dial-up. Surely GPRS is analagous to Broadband.
Anyone else want to try this:
Go to Web & walk home page. Attempt loading up the guardian page (This will take a while). Whilst this is loading, call your phone number and see if it rings or goes direct to VM.
I spend lots of time browsing so I must be losing lots of calls!
Feedback greatly appreciated.
From what I have heard only UMTS devices can support simultaneous voice/data.
Yes - but not GRPS that uses GSM band instead of UMTS.
However, some devices have troubles keeping the data link active when a call comes in.
I am having the same issue (also on T-Mobile UK).
Then IE is running or AS is downloading my mail (I use direct push) all my calls go straight to voicemail.
This is worrying as I just moved over to T-Mobile for the web n walk package to allow me to have instant e-mails. This is a pain if it means I miss calls whilst my mail is downloading.
You'd think that the chances of the 2 coinciding are slim (I don't get a lot of mail, maybe 10 per day) but the wife has already complained 3 times since Friday that she went straight to voicemail, and each time it was exactly as i got a new mail.
Is this a limit of GPRS, the Orbit or just T-Mobile?
Thanks
Dae
I was surprised too... Thats why I posted the query. I thought my phone and/or SIm were faulty. But T-Mobile tell me thats how its supposed to work.
With W&W and Email, Its really hard for someone to get through with a voice call. It was worrying for me as I tend to browse the net whenever I am waiting around. This means that when I am on the bus surfing, no one can get through to me!!
Surely if there is a limitation, then the phone should give precendence to the Voice call. After all, you can pick up your emails or surfing where you left off.
I would really be interested to see if this is a T-Mobile only problem.
No itschase is spot on.
It's not a t-Mobile problem, it's the same for any GSM based network.
Only 3g (UMTS) phones can do data and voice at the same time. No matter what network you are on.
I have just run an experiment in the office as follows:-
Me (artemis with v3 black and blue) - Voicemail when data active
person 1 (MDA compact III - v3 black and blue) - Voicemail when active
person 2 (hermes) - no Voicemail when active.
We are all on t-mobile UK, and therefore it doesn't look like a network issue, but maybe a ROM problem?

What problem? Everything is working as it supposed to. If it's so important to you. Go buy a 3g phone!
I now fully appreciate that 3g phones are the only ones to support this type of behaviour.
I was trying to be helpful and post the results of my test as at that point I didn't realise that only 3g phones worked as such. I was lead to believe this by wikipedia:-
"Class B
Can be connected to GPRS service and GSM service (voice, SMS), but using only one or the other at a given time. During GSM service (voice call or SMS), GPRS service is suspended, and then resumed automatically after the GSM service (voice call or SMS) has concluded. Most GPRS mobile devices are Class B. "
Obviously this is not the case.

I incorrectly assumed that whilst browsing, if a voice call comes in, the phone would give priority to the call.
If I had known what I know now at the time I signed my 18M contract I would have bought a 3g Phone! Its just annoying that i'm stuck with it for another 12M. T-Mobile push the fact that they have set the internet free... but what they fail to get across to everyday users is that its "AT THE EXPENSE OF THE VOICE CALLS"
Because T-Mobile forced you to buy one of their 2.5g phones rather than one of their 3g phones?
I have no problem receiving phone calls while browsing the internet on the P3300.

Neither have I to be honest, the issue only arises while you are actively downloading data. However once the website has loaded, you are free to accept calls again whilst still looking at the site in the browser.

As a test I started downloading a dummy 32MB testfile on my P3300 (from speedtest.bbned.nl) and I called my mobile with another phone.
There was no problem; I received the call while downloading the file.
Maybe it depends on the operator? I am in Holland on T-Mobile

Hi,
It's not enough to have a class A (2G) device, but also DTM (Dual Transfer Mode/Simple Class A) support has to be active in the specific network, otherwise only 3G device on 3G network will provide Class A (simultaneous voice & data).
In fact, there are quite many models from Nokia during last year that support DTM, but as already mentioned, it's not enough.
FYI,

Is that an EDGE network ?
I got the Artemis with PV Black&Blue v3 ROM.
I can receive calls while pages are loading in IE.
I think this is a provider problem.
The phone provider has to intercept your GPRS connection and establish the GSM connection. Maybe T-Mobile just rejects calls while a GPRS connection/transfer is active.
A1 intercepts the page download and my call comes in.
When I pick up, the GPRS connection is closed completely. (not just pending)
So receiving calls while surfing is no problem for me with Austrian A1 provider.
Any other experiences?

...then it's no way you'll get simultaneous voice and data (class a).
Hi everybody,
I have a big problem with my phone (or with my sim card).
Since 2 days, and without touching anything, my phone has a lot of difficulty to connect the Network that I'm registered to (Orange).
I'd got some connection problems like these ones :
- "Your sim card doesn't allow you to connect this network"
- When activating the 3G it stays on "activating" (even if I reboot the system and pull out the battery for few seconds)
- Non-send messages
So I decided to wipe all data and reinstall. It worked…but…the next day it restarts..!!
Do you think it's caused by an app or by rooting the phone with xtc-clip ?
My specs :
- S-OFF
- Rooted
- RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.2_Radio_47.23a.35.3035H_7.53.39.03M_release_225747_signed.exe
PS : the RUU has been installed with the sim card inside the phone of course.
Installing ruu with sim in shouldn't be a problem.
Easiest thing would be try another sim before deciding what to do next mate.
Thanks for replying.
In fact my phone network works again since I've created the topic but I don't know at all how ..
I've tried my girlfriend's SIM yesterday but it is a blackberry one and I don't why my phone doesn't accept it to register .. I will try again or use a friend SIM this week end.
BTW does your 3g connection make about 5sec to be activated ? Before the problem appears in 1/2 sec I've got the 3g. Now it's more, but it works.
This is not an APN problem 'cause they're all OK and for messages it's not a problem from message center since it's OK.
So I am always wondering how the phone could have this behavior without any changes.
If it makes the same again, I will call my operator to know more about it and will make a feedback here.
It could well be network/operator related maybe they have a problem.
Anyway main thing is your back up and working again.
The problem isn't resolved unhopefully... It doesn't work at home .. Sometimes yes, and the rest of the time no network (even if I got all the bars of the network and the Edge Logo) and I can't do anything.
I called the operator yesterday, they say my SIM card was defective so I went to the operator's shop and they changed the SIM card.
But back at home, it doesn't work again .. And now I'm at my job's office and it works again ..
So I conclude that there is a network problem in my block of flats ?
I will call back them tonight to see what they tell to me and will make a feedback here.
Also I tried to swap phone, the same problem with my old Sony Ericsson.
I put my SIM in my girlfriend's Blackberry (network used to work for her), and it does'nt work. Then when she puts back her SIM card, she had no network as me...
So could it be a hack of SIM card to prevent you having network at home ? (it could seem a lil bit paranoiac I know ^^)

I don't think so mate.
More probable is that the mast that provides data that is closest to your home is at fault.
I would just make sure to report it and I'm sure others will have issues, so your provider should investigate and provide a solution.

I called the network provider, they say they will call me tomorrow for me to talk with a technician.
BTW my girlfriend called them earlier and they say this is a problem due to the residence.
I tried to ask them if there is a problem with the mast, they said it seems to be normal and network works well in my area...
But the network is fine out.. In the appartment it works about 10/15mins per hour ...
For the "SIM Hack" suggestion I told you, do you think this is possible ? (I doubt because no problem out ..)
Let's wait and see ! If you have any suggestions, don't hesitate !
Thanks for the support though !
Edit : always all the bars of network and E logo just sending, not receiving when it doesn't work.
Maybe your building is a blackspot meaning signal is not passing through happens to me indoors with wifi.
And where I live in a small village I can't get a good data signal indoors.
I have to turn off 3g altogether and opt for 2g only as it gives me better call signal.
But if I walk for 10 mins towards town I can switch to 3g and its perfect.
I would just wait to speak to the tech guys and see what they say.
Oh and forgot to mention my operator reduced my monthly bill due to my poor signal, haha.
Good luck hope they sort it for you.
If not try a different network sim just as a test.
The strange fact is that it used to work perfect in the building.
There are problems for about 4 days now.
When I forced 3G using "WCDMA only", it seems the signal was better and not blocked on E/G.
And now I turned it back to Auto and it works .. I don't understand what the **** is happening... !! It comes back to 3G/H.. but sometimes it fails again ..
I will wait for the tech guys, and if it's not solvable I guess I would ask for a commercial act such as yours !
Moreover this week, friends will come so we will see if they've got network (I believe they're at the same network provider, no luck ^^) .. !
Thanks for your support again mate, really appreciated !
My phone just started doing the same thing. Its a stock phone.
Finally nobody called me back but the network came back so no more problem now.. How ?? I simply don't know .. Good job "Orange".. !
Thanks for support though
Hey,
So I bought an LG G4 from Vodafone UK and unlocked it so i could use my Three sim card.
Weird thing is I can use Mobile Data and send/receive SMS if I am on 4G. The person who is calling me can hear the calling tone as if they were calling someone but I don't actually receive the call.
When I switch to 2G/3G it simply does not connect to the network.
I have done a factory reset and it did not fix the problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks
tl;dr : can't send/receive calls but can use data and send/receive sms (through 4G only)

Maybe you need to register your IMEI on the network? That's what I had to for At&t.
How would you go about doing that? Apart from manually searching for networks (I can see other carriers like O2, vodafone, EE, but I can't see my carrier Three ; the person living in the flat with me is on Three as well and they have no problem, so it's not a coverage issue. I have bought the phone from vodafone, unlocked it and trying to use it with Three).
Do I have to call Three for this IMEI registration or..?
Thanks

Best bet will be calling your service prover and have them register it. I had to call At&t and have them register my IMEI since I couldn't use internet or make calls.
Just had a long chat over the phone with them and in the end he said the 'engineers' found a 'problem' on their end and it should be fixed in @5 days. He didn't want to mention what problem or how / why it happened. Oh well fingers crossed.
Thanks!
update : so after about 4 calls with customer service (across 3 weeks) and 2 trips to the 'Three' store i'm basically stuck and would need your help guys.
backstory : I've contacted them once at the start of January and they said they found the issue and they will fix it by 7th of January which didn't Happen. On 7th of January they said they are sorry and it will be fixed by 14th of January which didn't happen either. After that I received a message that the problem was fixed and if i had any other issues I should contact them, which I did because the problem was not solved. Yesterday I went to the shop again and the 'tech' guy told me that it should be working and he gave me a new sim card just to be sure, and if that didn't work he said call customer support and ask for contract cancellation. Today I got called by customer service and I have told them that it still doesn't work and I'm paying for something I can't use and I've been told to request contract cancellation which they didn't believe and said I have to pay the rest of the contract length in order to cancel, which is absurd. I went again to the shop and the new customer service person that was assigned to me said they don't have any tech people and she seemed she didn't believe when i said i talked to one the day before. She tested the sim on their phones and it worked and also she took my phone "in the back (strange cause she said they don't have any tech)" and said I had my phone set to 2G (which I didn't, it was set to 2G/3G) and that that was the problem. strangely, for that split moment i had one bar for 3g and the call went through. Straight after that phone stopped working (it was just that small area in which it worked). I told her that that's not the problem and she's like "welp you didn't make your contract at the store, you made it online so I can't help you , you have to call customer service". So I'm basically stuck with a contract which I can't use and I have no idea what to do.
problem : I cannot register to the Three network (only in small random areas, few of them) but I have no problems with other SIM cards from other Carriers (Orange, EE, Vodafone, O2). I have bought the phone from vodafone and unlocked it and last time customer service told me they can't give support to phones that were not bought from their store. So I'm stuck here with a phone contract which I can not use to make or receive calls, but I can use the mobile data and send receive texts. I am considering rooting it and puting a custom ROM , although I'm not sure if that would fix the problems (maybe issues with certain bandwiths?.
Any help or ideas much appreciated!
Same problem here
Hi all. Same problem here but different issue.
Origin : G4 buy used on November. IMEI fully working and not blacklisted (calling my french phone provider this morning, it tell me that's IMEI is ok and phone not stollen and it try to repair remotly my carrier but didn't work)
Problem : Fully working since i picked up a call and answer ... and then when the call is finish i tried to call someone 10 minutes after and totally loose signal(connection) (Orange/Sosh)
What i've maid before : Playing a lot @ a boring but adictive game. High temperature since 3 days because i play a lot but temperature decrease when i stop playing.
I've used a legal app to record a patern and make some actions without my intervention (RepetiTouch Free (root)) to make races in the game.
That's all ! No drop, no hit, nothing ! Just playing, having a call, hang off and then want to make an other call and nothing.
Since the last 6 hours : Signal ok - Data ok (can go on internet / GAPPS etc..) - CAN receive and send SMS (i've don't trie MMS) !!! but .... can't receive and can't send any call.
I was on Genesys 3.5 and i've update to 3.7 when i see the problem, believing that's it will fixe the issue but ... no ....
Formating and going to stock ROM but with root SU etc..... Can't receive and send call too ....
I'm going to back to stock with KDZ .... but i really believe that's it will not work .....
AND .... to finish and kill my joy .... i've unlock bootloader with LG tools since 2 month .....so my phone is no longer under warranty.
My SIM card work on others phones ... other sim cards didn't work in my phone ....
If anyone have this issue ... please tell us
Sorry bro cant help you here. Never heard of that problem before but my idea is that you should refund that phone back to Vodafone UK.
