Hi,
I've QTEK9090.nb1 ROM full backup, and wnat to restore from SD and allways say "Not Allow". Even changing the first 416 bytes.
How can I extract the 3 images inside nb1 file, Radio, CE Rom and extended ROM?
Is there a tool to do so?
I need to put the Qtek back as the original.
I upgrade to Windows Mobile 2005, but it's too slowm so I want to put it back.
With MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe I can flash any rom, but can flash my own.
I need to extract from qtek9090.nb1 the files: ms_.nbf, nk.nbf and radio_.nbf.
How can I do it?
Thanks,
rmc

I can't believe!
I downgraded from wm5 to wm2003, but, when I put in \Storage my cooked extended rom, on hard reset the PDA2k load the DEFAULT ship ext rom!!!
Via Activesync, in \Storage, I see my cooked ext rom files.
I try also to kill Activesync processes from task manager, put pda in bootloader mode and reflash the rom 1.40 with original ext rom, but the process first flash ext rom (stage 2) and the the CE Rom (stage 1)...
what can I do ?!
can anynone help me ?!
The PPC loads the ExtROM from:
\Extended Rom\
You should unhide it, unlock it, and put your files there, NOT in \Storage.
Ok I don't want to sound like a retard here but there are a few things that I really want to find out if you guys don't mind.
1). Extended Rom is located in the hidden partition of PPC Devices, that the device installs after a hardreset right? Where is my Device ROM located? The one I flash onto it, is it in the hidden partition or another place(as hidden partition content can be deleted)?
2). What about the ROM files that comes in the *.exe format, those that can flash your device?
3). How do I backup my current ROM to a *.exe format so I can go back if I have to?
Thanks a million!!!!!!
Ok, here you go:
1) It is in a partition of its own, not the same one as extended ROM. And most of it is visible as your windows directory.
2) No such thing. Rom files can be NBF or BIN (also some other NB extensions). If you have an exe file, it is the setup app that has the ROM image stashed some ware (resource maybe). The exe does the work, but it is not a ROM image.
3) As you understand from answer 2 you can't. You can backup your image to SD, but it is somewhat complex and depends on the device and version of bootloader. There are instructions in the WiKi.
Warning!
If you are new to ROM changing you should only use official update and head the warnings about loosing all data, having power connected and battery full during update and not being able to downgrade (without some hacked software).
Also using custom ROM will void your warranty.
A couple of questions about upgrading to WM6 on my Axim. I am currently running 2003ce on my Axim, Vista on my computer.
Is the upgrade to WM5 done by the flash method on a SD card as described for WM6?
Can my current programs be restored from a backup or must they be reinstalled?
I'm rather a newbie at this, so thanks for the help so I don't turn my PDA into a brick.
You put the Rom onto a SD Card then go into the bootloader and install it. I dont think you can backup your programs unless you save the .cab's to another SD card or a CF card. Bricking doesnt mean that your Axim will never work again you just have to flash it back using the official rom. Only if the bootloader is tampered with will not work what so ever which shouldnt happen with most roms plus i made the silly mistake of trying to install WM6 on my X51 mid and it bricked but its working fine now after flashing back with the orginal rom.
The contents of the WM5 archive is very different from the WM6 archive. I'm guessing WM5 is applied differently than WM6. There are 3 exe files in the archive. Aximupdate.exe, Fullscreen.exe, and Enterbootloader.exe as well as other dll''s and img files.
If it applied through activesync, I may have a problem with vista. Vista would hang when I tried to update the 2003se Rom. I had to use my laptop which is running XP.
Any help with this is appreciated. I searched for this topic, but have not found anything.
Can someone tell me can i upgrade my axim x30 wit wm6?
Now i have wm 2003
Links download A12 (WM5) for X51 ?
Can anyone tell me how to use the WM5 archive to upgrade from 2003?
Thanks
Edit: I see that I dl'd a different image file than the one in this thread. The one in this thread contains the flash files for WM5. I think the only thing is I have to rename the bootloader files, from reading other messages in this thread.
Hey all
Is there a way to backup / Extract the whole rom from the Vogue? I'm looking to flash and updgrade a couple of devices but I need a backup in case something goes wrong, any way to do that? With an apps, with mmty/putty, to extract the whole .nhb image with radio, os, SPL and SPI and all that?
BTW, I was woundering, I've been playing around with a Titan for a while with upgrades, radios, kitchen and all, does the Vogue can be upgraded the same way (with MicroSD)
Thanks!
hello, really need help upgrading my MDA Vario II (Hermes 300) from WM5 to WM6. Can't seem to make a ROM work, have tried the SD way and it just doesn't seem to pick anything up.
I am running
HERM300
IPL-1.04
HERM300
SPL-2.10. Olipro
Am I just using the wrong ROMs or am I doing something wrong?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Make sure your sd card is:
1. Smaller than 2 gig (non sdhc)
2. Formatted fat32 (not fat)
Then make sure the file is named hermimg.nbh (as in hermes image) and you should be good to go.
I've got a 2GB Micro SD card, formatted FAT32
well I've got no .nbh file with the rom, the rom is just an .exe that I cannot change. I'm guessing thats where I am going wrong is it? I need to put a .nbh file with the rom?
Many Thanks
Ahh, ok, your trying to install the stock shipped rom (upgrade), it sounds like.
You can use something like 7zip (I use 7zip, but it's just personal Preference) or winrar to extract the exe, the stock rom will need to have the 2nd exe extracted as well (there is another exe inside the original exe). Then the nbh file will appear that can be renamed and put on the sd card.
Also, what rom are you trying to install? Just to be sure.
If it's one of the ones from this section of the wiki you should be good to go.
Or if it's one of the "custom" roms found here in the hermes section of the forums, you should also be all set.
thanks very much for your help, followed what you said and it worked perfectly.
Thanks again!
Glad it worked!
Thanks for helping out boog. Closing thread.
