Remnant of old ROMs - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

I have flashed my Qtek 9000 several times and it seems that when reflashing with the say O2 ROM after it was flashed with the Qtek ROM, the machine retains some information. For example:
Initial ROM Qtek
Flash with O2, all information dissapears
Flash with JasJar, all information dissapears
Flash with O2 Rom again and the call history from the period that it had the previous O2 Rom reappears.
I have also noticed that some files in the Windows directory seem to reappear. Possibly because of these old files, since the last reflashing the machine has started behaving strangely. No phone signal, restoring contacts (using the copy pim.vol procedure) doesn't bring back the contacts and the contacts application doesn't work at all (clicking on contacts has no effect whatsoever).
Is it possible to clean the machine completely before flashing?

I and others have previously reported instances of some odd files and registry settings remaining over a hard reset. One guy even said pictures had stayed put. However, I wouldn't want to rely upon it happening.
Probably has something to do with persistent memory being just too persistent  .
I don't know if it helps the memory loss, but I now have the habit of leaving the battery out for a couple of hours if I want to totally clear the device, and press the reset both without and with the battery inserted back in. Will probably get myself flamed for that, but hay, ho, whatever....

Internal Storage Folder DISAPPEARS

The internal Storage Folder & Contents Routinely disappears on my PDA2K. The only way to restore the folder is by doing a hard reset. After doing so, the contents of the storage folder re-appear as well.
Any ideas??
to my it happened to me several weeks ago the same thing...
And several times it has already spent...
but still nobody has told me anything
That you program you had installed in the Storage...
regards
Okay, this has happened to me 4 times now in 1 weekend. Does anyone know what is going on here?
I hate this reset, sprite, use for a bit, gone again, etc business.
Driving me nuts.
Someone please help.
Well, when the battery gets lower, it shuts down the SDIO slot. Could that be it?

No we are not talking about the SDIO Memory. I am talking about the internal storage. It just goes away until you hard reset.
Well I figured out what was causing it, but I still don't know why. I installed the newest version of WebIS Mail 2.1, and when retrieving mail, it pauses, after that the storage is gone, then it's good old hard reset and sprite to the rescue. Funny thing is nothing is deleted and after a sprite restore it goes back to normal. But the story continues the next time I try and retrieve mail.
So what I did was store the mail folder on my SDIO (yes it is brutaly slow), and now it works fine.
Any thoughts?
Registry
Can you please take a look at your registry?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Loader]
Does it read : \Release\\Storage\Windows ?
If it does not maybe you would like to try importing the attached key.
Just a note here, that should read,
Does it read : \Release\\Storage\Windows\ ?
and not
Does it read : \Release\\Storage\Windows ?
I believe.
Sounds to me as if you mail program is over writing your storage, trying to store too much info their. This is normal behavior with this type of storage.

Is there anyway to enable it again??
I'm not thinking when the battery is low, I'm thinking to try and re enable SDIO Slot when Windows cant see the SDIO card.
It's the funniest thing, i often loose the SD card in windows, but somehow when i'm running TomTom 3.7 which is installed on the SD Card, it never fails once it's running even though i'm sometimes not able to access the SD Card with file explorer.
So somehow it's there for TomTom onces it's running, but not for Windows???
Woops. Looks like I can't read. Sorry.
This 'internal storage' disappearing issues also happened on my Xda IIs (HK WWE), now with 1.33 + 1.06, in the past few days as well.... SINCE I installed the following two programs.
1. O2 Plus 1.6 - cracked by someone with his/her signature on the 'About page'
2. Tweak2K2 3.4
I am pretty sure that's the hacked O2 Plus does that. Since I had my splash screens customized on my IIs initially and after installed O2 Plus 1.6, after a soft reset, the 2 splashed will revert to O2 splashes then after some time, 'internal storage' disappeared.
Restored the unit back to the stage that I had version 1.5-hacked, never had a problem since. However, right after uninstalled 1.5 & reinstalled 1.6, same disaster happened again. Tried 3 times in a roll, never missed. Dont think that's the problem with Tweak2K2. Not an expert on manually tweaking the registry, but that's what I found out. I am back to 1.5-hacked & Tweak2K2 3.4. And running without a problem. Did you guys put on the O2 Plus 1.6-hacked or had it on before?

Anyway, my first post on this incredible forum, really appreciate on everyone sharing thoughts and knowledge here.

I'm pretty sure we are both wrong. Because I am running 1.6 right now, and I've been running all day with no problems. I am also running Tweak2K2 3.4. My problem disappeared when I set the WebIS Mail 2.1 mail storage folder to a SDIO card instead of the internal storage.
Someone, please help with this. There is a bigger culprit here, and I don't think Cabrio or I have a proper conclusion.
But I will try uninstalling 1.6, reinstalling Mail 2.1 and try it again. I just hate all this installing and uninstalling bit.
Cheers!
I believe that the problem is due to some applications you might be using.
I am experiencing problems with files disappearing/getting corrupt on mu SD-Card, where I installed all my apps and just found out that at least part of the responsability was a certain program...
Fact is that some tools/apps are not properly tested and have bug's that can mess up the filesystem, plus you should not try to use hacked/cracked programs, as they might contain routines that cause this effects on purpose.
Cheers,
vma
Another approach
I don't think this is a rogue app.
I have had the same problem dating to the first synch I did this morning.
My files won't synch - they seem unable to complete the synch. Active synch won't "stop" in mid process - and when I remove the XDA from the cradle, it won't soft reset.
A hard reset maintains the contents of "My Documents" which is not what it's meant to do.
Having spent several hours on this, I am starting to suspect that the culprit is to do with the time change. The Calender can deal with it, contacts and notes can deal with it.
Files can't. And when it fails, it leaves the XDA unstable.
It's only my working theory. But three iPaq users in the same office had a similar issue and all had to hard reset and restore - which fixed their problem.
Users who don't synch with their local machine (i.e synch with exchange are fine). Users with earlier versions of Pocket PC are fine.
Hope this helps. I was expecting every iPaq user in the world to be up in arms - so maybe I'm wrong. Its where I'm looking now though.
Spoke too soon!
Okay, so I really have to learn to let things ride for a couple of days, before saying "No, mine is fine". Well and the story goes...
I woke up this morning, reached over to my trusty (ya right) XDA, and baam, it was just sitting there. Wouldn't do anything. I sat there, thought for a sec, thought about the last backup I had done, and off to the 2 button holy grail we go (power+reset). Restored, with sprite, uninstalled O2 Plus 1.6, and now I will sit and wait again, till tomorrow morning. I think I might have to buy this sprite backup program, it's saved my a$$ more than 6 times this week alone.
Okay, so back to the drawing board. My Plan is this.
All I need O2 Plus for is the auto msn sign in, everytime GPRS is enabled or a phone call is ended. Is there any way to do this without the O2 plus app?
I will not install O2 Plus again, I will leave everything alone as is and I am going to start uninstalling 1 app at a time.
BTW, PhoneDashboard also screwed up a few days ago, it would just sit there and process like mad. I uninstalled it and everything is fine now.
And though hacked software could have anti-piracy code inside it, but if the app has bugs why would I buy it? Fix the bugs, make it decent enough to be worth the price you are asking then I will gladly buy it. It's the same reason why I wouldn't buy Windows, I only have it cause it came free with my system
ok..got some more info about our problem..this doesnt fix our problem but i just thought you guys should know, after you hard reset theres 4 shortcuts in the startup folder they are for the permanent save contacts, tasts apointments, connections. you get that flash manager error cause the permanent save program cant save it cause that was suppose to be in the Storage Folder..and the Storage Folder wont allow you to add delete or view files in it..i know ther are files in there cause if you look in memory you'll see that its ocuping 40+mb, then after a while or until your xda hangs the Storage Folder disappears
How can we unlock/view this folder? just like the Extended_ROM folder unlocker, i bet when we unlock this folder before it disappears everything will be fixed (YEA RYT!!!). well at least one problem down..
i forgot to tell you guys after you Hard reset try deleting that 4 permanentsave shortcut..you'll feel your erge to kick the crap out of your IIs a little less.
yes I always do that. that and the STK.lnk
So I uninstalled O2 Plus 1.6, and been running since yesterday morning with no problems yet. Storage is still there and things are running normally. If this goes on for another day or two, I will be convinced that O2 Plus caused the problem.
what else did you do? mine always disapears after the first soft reset..
It just happened to me for the first time while listening to music with PocketMVP. Storage disappeared and had to do a hard reset. I'm glad I had Sprite and a current backup handy. I also had O2 Plus 1.6 installed just a few hours before this happened. So as you guys suggested, I uninstalled O2 Plus 1.6, removed the 5 permanentsave files and STK.
Before I installed O2 Plus, my PPC was very stable. I only had to reset when my memory was running low since I refuse to buy an SD Card fewer than 1gig. We will see what happens in a few days.
nomadman..could you upload your backup? or maybe could upload a Flush image of your current running OS?(http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=151 ) PLEASE help man..cause that myt fix my storage problem.

XDA orbit gets slower and slower

Hello everybody!
I have an XDA orbit with german WM 6 from O2. Several days after hard reset it starts to get slower and slower, until a day or two later its so slow, it needs minutes to open or close applications. Nothing helps, no soft reset, no registry cleaning, no deleting of programs, .... The only possibility, to get it up to speed again is a hard reset. Before someone asks: I DO use software to get my programs closed for real (SPB Pocket Plus).
Since each time it takes a lot of time to install everything again manually (I usually do a soft reset, before the extended rom installs automatically, because it contains so much I donĀ“t need) I would like to find a way, to prevent it getting slower. I install the things form extended rom I need and some applications I need in addition, like TomeRaider, CardExport II, KeyPass, TomTom, Sprite Backup, Total Commander, ... Neverthelesss I can be sure it will lock up again only a couple of days later.
If I restore the device by Sprite Backup it starts getting slower at once, though I usally have a day or two of remotely tolerable working speed.
Can anyone help me to get that problem fixed?
Thanks in advance!
tiztat
Maybe you should check running processes when device runs slow (with MemMaid or SkTools).

BIG problem with Activesync & memory card

I had a perfectly working TP2 (except a few irregular freeze, but I assume like everybody has) until this morning
I installed the splash screen shown at the therad below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=516013
(I installed through installing the cabs)
A while later my device froze, I soft reseted it and... Two huge problems:
1. Activesync doesnt work. When I launche it it is grey and diappears nearly instantly from the screen (I can relaunch, the same thing happens. I would expect it to stay on screen)
2. When acessing my microSD card with explorer, after going in a folder, I very quikly (a few seconds) lose my card (an see it anymore)
I do not know if it is related to the splash screen installation (It may be just a coincidence and I do not see why it would have an effect). It;s more likely teh reset ****ed up something in the registry. That's why I post here and not in the thread I just referenced
I am just hoping the issues I am encountering will remind someone about a classic problem
FYI I removed the software (of course) and also tried to disable Manilla 3D, but didnt change anything...
In Manilla, whenever trying to launch SMS from the tab or emails from the tab, it crashes Manilla (But trying to launch them with Manilla disabled doesnt work either, so I do not think it is a Manilla issue... Just manilla doesnt manage to make them strat and reboots). If I am on contact tab, trying to look for events (lie Facebook) crashes Manilla
Hope this rings a bell to someone. Thanks in advance
And obviously without a SD card or a working Activesync, Backing up the device is going to be a F*@!%# pain (if not impossible). Plus all the crap to reinstall...
AAAHHHH this never happened with my Hermes !! (Granted, I was using trusted cooked ROMs and not the garbage original one...)
I liek this device... but hate the sh%$t that seem to happen with the sofware...
It seems
Sometimes it goes through... I managed to finally synchronize (finally !!) after trying 50 or 60 times to launch ctivesync. Things went well but I needed to reboot, which I did
And now back to the problem...
It looks like if Activesync doesnt ahve an immediate conection, it just "dies" and doesnt stay on screen...
Interesting (but depressing) to notice: If I launch PIM Backup it sees no email/MMS/SMS account
I just cant (_*!^*^$
OK, problem narrowed down to potential dtaa corruption on my microSD crad (Could be linked to my phne crash). when the card is out no problem (And I am storing my attachments on my card so this explains a lot...)
Going to try to read it directly on my PC and try to save what I can
It's been a long monologue, hopefully this will be helpful to some people

Changed Sim - White Screen

So I have been using my imate PDA2k without a hitch, purchased it unlocked, and was using a local carrier somewhere in Europe (Voda). Went to T Mobile in the same country and put the sim in - BOOM - white screen on startup and it seems to have reset because I heard the pings to indiate screen alignment.
Took it home, used My Mobiler to looksee what is happening. Its all working fine, the screen and everything, its just white! And after several Power/Reset button resets everything is still there but on the device - white screen only. Power on battery and backup indicated 100% but backup battery for a while said "needs replacing" - then on settings now its 100%
The touchscreen works! I reinstalled the password and when I touch the white screen in the places of the four numbers, its ok!
But its all white! What can I do?
hi and welcome to the forum.
there are basicly two options to what could have happened, either something got messed up with the rom and after the sim changed it was triggered and went completely wrong or while changing the sim, you accidently caused a hardware defect.
another way to try that is: put the device into bootloader mode!
the way to do that is press power+record+reset. maybe hold the power+record a little longer after resetting.
if your device screen shows SERIAL V2.0x (where x is a number from 5 to 7), apparently your hardware is ok and just your rom broke. in that case, after you claimed you already hard resetted, you might want to flash that rom again. if i read your post correctly, you are still running wm2003se. if your carrier does not host your rom anymore, you can always refer to xplode's shipped rom archive here: http://firmware.atspace.com/Blueangel.html
if your device still shows only white, either when trying to access bootloader mode, or after re-flashing, yo might have harmed your hardware. you might want to check for a replacement screen. if you want to have a look inside your device, whether the display cable maybe broke, here is a link to the service manual: http://rapidshare.com/files/336406555/HTC_Blue_Angel_Service_Manual.pdf
i don't think it can have anything to do with the backup battery, but if that really was the reason, here you find a thread with someone, selling them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551886
or you could upgrade your rom to wm5 or above, then the backup battery is not needed at all.
Thanks for the great response!
So I waited about an hour of using it with My Mobiler but with a white screen only on the device, and then waited a bit, and and just pressed power and reset again to see if yet another reset would work - and it did.
It was so strange that the previous times I tried to reset it didnt seem to work at all. But I knew that the screen was ok because I used My Mobiler and could press the password for the device on the white screen ok, guessing where the numbers were, and it activated fine.
So strange, but its all ok now. Thanks guys - this device is 5 years old!
mymobiler is a remote connection to the device, so that does not necessarily shows, that the screen is working, because it uses the usb port to determin, what the display would show, just like a remote desktop connection to a pc can work, even when your vga or dvi cable is broken, because picture information is sent through lan or wlan then, with a virtual graphics driver. also for some people, the touch feature worked fine before without the screen showing anything, because that is also another layer, that is transmitted through the digitizer. it could really have indicated that your display flex cable was broken, which is why i went both ways in my answer.
i am glad to hear it works again, just posted to clarify a few things
also, if you ever get tired of wm2003, make sure to have a look at d-two's wm6.5.3 rom in my signature and in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569869
back in the day, when i still used wm2003, i felt quite excluded in mobile developments of the last few years, because many 3rd party applications would just work on wm5 or above and with that rom you can be up to date and use a lot of new features, which make the phone feel less like an old pda and more like a new phone. but now, that your device works again, of course that is completely optional.
Great Tony!
Although I am a little afraid to flash the rom to WM5 or 6 I should give it a go.
Im happy with the BA the way it is with some GUI software!
Thanks again!
i also had different gui improvements installed on wm2003, but still it didn't feel to fingerfriendly, which is important for me, because, let's face it, the BA is a modern phone, not some geeky 90s PDA , so fumbling around with a stylus is just not cool. also, whenever i looked on engadget i was incredibly envious of all the cool apps and GUIs. whenever i looked at ppc freeware pages i saw that most games, media players, browsers... would just work with wm5 or above, and after i found out, that it is incredibly easy to make your BA become a modern device (i would even go as far as calling wm6.5.3 a 2010 phone), i decided i want that, to kick every iphone's butt, to install any app i want, not to be forced to install 20 programs after a hard reset anymore, because everything already works fine and looks nice. i mean, these days, you hard reset, the extrom installs windows marketplace for you, you log in with your live account, it downloads everything you had installed/bought from there, including microsoft myphone and when you start myphone, you are already logged in, so it syncs all your pim data with the internet, and you have everything back. back in the day i was afraid i would lose everything i set up for ages if i ever had to hard reset, these days it just takes an internet connection and 20minutes of your time, to have your phone completely back up after flashing a new rom. it is amazing. before upgrading (the procedure for windows xp is to be found in the 2nd post of the link above) you should still make a backup of all your data, either through pimbackup (freeware by dotfred) at http://www.dotfred.net/ or with spb backup, available at spbsoftwarehouse as a trial version, in case you want to go back. about those backup apps, pimbackup is great because you can schedule backups of all your important information, also stuff that is not synced, like sms or the call history and restore it to any other rom or even other device, but it does not back up your installed programs (most of which you won't need anymore anyway.). spb backup on the other hand makes a backup of the entire system, and can restore the exact state of the device after a hard reset, including all installed programs and those programs settings, on the downside, those backups are worthless on another rom, just work for hard resets.
that was just a fair warning, because not everybody is happy with wm6.5's battery life and performance, especially when coming directly from wm2003. i started with wm6.0 and so i am used to those disadvantages, and since the roms get better with every new release, it is actually an improvement for me every time.
also i need to tell you, that by tomorrow, there will be a new rom released build 23518 by egzthunder1. yes, although the number is not higher, that rom is newer. but since none of us know, if that rom has any bugs, it might not be right to start with that one right away, you should probably try the one from my signature / from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569869 (same thing) because there, the bugs are known and listed. when you have found your way around the new OS, you can still switch roms in about an hour, as stated above, you travel light with the new roms, and as long as your pim data is backed up and you follow the instructions, everything will be fine.
with best regards,
Chef_Tony

I have xv6600 yes I am still using it
It seems that I have broken my Display cable as I don't get any display.
But sometimes when I Slide the keboard in and out many times I do get display.
I took it to the local mobile reparing shop and he says that the cable is broken but I will have to change the complete LCD, as it's not possible to change only the display ribbion.
I was a bit worried in changing the complete lcd as I am not sure what quality of LCD he is going to use.
I would like to know if it is possible to change only the display ribbion. and where can I get one. Your help will be greatly apprreciated I really love this handset and don't want to leave it
Thanks in advance
have a look in the service manual, there you will find the exact display used in the device. there is a photo of it on page 55.
Thanx a lot Tony for your quick reply, this forum is great I have learned a lot from this forum over time.
I saw the display from the service manual, infact the mobile repair guy had opened my phone and shown me the display, but I was concerned if there is any chance that i can just repair or change the ribbon instead of the complete diplay.
i haven't opened up my device, yet. i'm glad i never had to, but from all lcds i know, i think that the flex cable is integrated in the display unit and only has a plug on the other side, so you cannot detach it. also, you should think about costs. the cable alone probably wouldn't be any cheaper than the entire display and if you had it assembled in a local shop, changing the flex cable only (if possible) would be much more work than replacing the entire unit, so causing more costs. actually, i believe the cheapest way would be, buying an entire new BlueAngel. new devices go for 100eur here in germany. the official retail price for a display unit alone is 130eur.

Will upgrading a TMo TP2 to 6.5 get rid of my cprog.exe problems?

Phone is a few days old and pretty much experience the cprog.exe problem every time I get on the net. Does anyone know if upgrading to 6.5 will get rid of that nuisance of should I deal with it before upgrading?
If you flash and install a fresh ROM then you shouldn't have any errors.
If you'd like, you could start by clearing the memory (Hard Reseting) the phone and the message should clear up. But maybe you installed an app that triggered the error so it might come back once you re-install it.
Either way, don't forget to backup your info as it will wipe everything out from contacts to any music and files saved to the main memory, anything in your microSD should fine.
Good luck!

That issue is believed to be caused by programs/apps dragging their feet when closing. If you want to do something about it now before upgrading, you can simply go into settings and disable error reporting...you won't get the messages any more, and everything should still work ok (based on historical evidence). However, since the cause is software-based, flashing to the new ROM should sidestep the issue since you're completely replacing the entire software package, and not messing with it beforehand shouldn't cause it to stick around and haunt you in 6.5.
Thanks guys. I was hoping a ROM replacement would help. Actually, no apps or programs installed yet. All I've done is sync contacts, calendar, notes, to do, and some Word files. Here's hoping 6.5 will work out fine. Thanks again.
