ROM version 1.13.188 o2 UK - anyone using?? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Can't see anyone's signature showing they have actually upgraded to it... :O(
Also, odd numbering choice (is .188 higher than .48?) and does not mention much improved ("Updated O2 Active UI
Disablement of Device Error Logging")
But I guess that they don't bother to release an update unless it actually improves/cures something - right?

whoops, was reading the wrong Rom numbers (not the ExtRom version).
Sorted.

i have uploaded the xda exec new rom version .188 and it works fine for me except that sumtyms the xda hangs and i have to do the soft reset after i say 4 to 5 days, the battery life is surely improved and with the new o2 ui the battery icon is removed from the bar and is now below the msg strip on the today screen with the battery percentage aswell.
in the corporate mode, the xda works fine but it gives a program conflit with a few softwares.

Thinking of it, i'm running the .188 a few days in corp mode. But I need to reset the thing more often then I am used to with a pro.
This morning my alarm didn't ring so when I checked the MDA PRO, it hanged so I was too late out of bed .
I'll run it for a few extra day, when it hangs again im putting back my custoim t-mobile rom.

XDA I keeps going to sleep

Tried various WM2002 or 2003 ROMs, and settled back on WM2002 as it seems more stable, but I still have a problem where the phone seems to turn off (no green LED blinking), and when you press the top button to turn on the PDA it is as though you have warm reset it. I think I might be missing calls because of this and will have to change the phone if this is the case. Now when I know I might be expecting an important call I have to keep checking the green LED is blinking! I also get periodic SD card erasure unless I write protect it! Overall it is a nightmare to use because of these two issues.
ROM versions:
3.17.03 ENG
ROM date 5/15/03
Radio 4.21.00
Protocol 32S54
Hi mate, my XDA does the same thing - I have upgraded my ROM too (see profile for version etc.). Best thing I can offer to you is that it resets when bumped or knocked (like if I put it down on my desk a bit too hard), the screen will go wierd and then reset. Don't know why this happens but I keep checking my green light for flashing too. My vibrate function no longer works wither. I plan on calling O2 tomorrow to follo up the issues.
Well, I had the same problem with my QTEK 1010, os 2002, until I downloaded a very good clock/alarm software: pTravelAlarm (make a google search for it). among its functions is a very good one which is Chime, (in alarm menu) it wakes up the device each one hour so it will not get stunned. Now I never miss a call. The only disadvantage is that it makes the battery lasts a bit shorter than before.
john banks, there must be something loose in your device, carefully disassemble it and check all screws inside, if all ok, I'm afraid you might have to send it to a repair shop.
after installing the SER 1.2 special version from xda developer, my XDA run smoothly and I can see the sender of SMS anymore

What THE? Hardware? Orange Firmware? Hard-resets-a-go-go...

Following a couple of previous spontaneous hard-resets, my SPV2000's now developed a liking for it, and I've got a completely repeatable hard-reset issue...
All I need do is press the telephone "Green" button!
What's odd is that if, following the hard reset, I hit the green button after the PDA's started up, but before all the Orange McGuffery installs, the phone just pops up fine. Soon as the Orange stuff's installed, it's back to green=hard reset.
WTF? Anybody else had anything similar?
If that is the case, it would seem that something in your EXtRom is the cause.
I suggest you try updating your rom, or just generally cooking your Extended rom.
Instructions on working with your extended rom are here:

Is that as scary as it sounds?
BTW - I've just tried to demonstrate this utterly-repeatable behaviour and... it's working as it should. <cries, bangs head on table>
I had a problem with my first M2000 in that it wouldn't soft reset. Whenever I tried it would just stall and would take over an hour with the sim card out before it would work again.
Finally get a replacement and I found the rom was insanely old. After a couple of questions in the upgrade folder I *just* flashed the phone with the latest rom and a slightly modified extended rom. While it does look tricky, its not.
Look here for more...

And it's back at it.
The phone was ringing, I pressed "Green" to answer it, and got a hard reset. Restored the backup, pressed "Green", and got a hard reset.
This is getting VERY depressing.
Has nobody ever experienced similar? <whimper>
<UPDATE>
It gets worse! The f**king thing's now wiped my contacts and calendar in Outlook.
Excuse me, I'm just off to take to drink.
It would be worth you trying to upgrade the radio to v1.08.00.
My SPV had the audio problem and it seems to have cured that (tho I haven't re-installed much of the 3rd party s/w I had on there yet) so maybe it will help you too.
I upgraded to v1.10.00 initially (from v1.06.00), but couldn't get my wifi link to work properly. I then tried v1.08.00 and everything seems fine.
Me too, just started this week
I am also having spontaneous hard reset problems with my pda2k. I have been using it for about 6 months and for at least two months with all the sw I now have on it. When I press the power button to bring it back from sleeping it starts the "time to align your touch screen" crap. I am fairly sure it is NOT my ROM but in case anyone needs to know that:
ROM: 1.22.00 WWE
Radio 1.06.00
Ext ROM: 1.22.162 WWE
The only other remote possibility I can think of it some combination of the aftermarket 2200 mAh battery combined with the very high side seat bolsters in my new car. Perhaps I am twisting or stressing my unit in my front pocket when getting into or out of my car and that causes a momentary loss of contact with the battery contacts. I have tried to duplicate that with my hands but have not been able to. I guess I will not put it in my pocket for a while to continue testing. To the fellow who lost all of their contacts. I sympathize! That is why I set my ActiveSync to NOT actually perform any updates. I know many like the features of AS but it is not transparent, bidirectional enough nor stable enough for me to embrace. I use Sprite for backups instead and keep the data on my pda2k as "primary". Any more insight on such new and random hard resets is appreciated.

Experience with Orange ROM

I installed latest orange ROM and observed (other than MSFP)
NICE THINGS
* UI is very nice which shows everything on the desktop screen
* It has PVplayer builtin to run movies including 3gp in full screen mode
* contact management has built in seperate voice dialing icon
* ownname, Date and operator name is shown by default on desktop screen.
* Very stable despite of heavy installations on 2GB card
BAD THINGS
* No A2DP
* very slow in responding especially after power on
I tried it too and I found it very slow compare to the i-mate new ROM. So I'm using this now (i-mate)
(I tried T-mobile new ROM too with the same result)
Orange have always had PVPlayer installed.
But I've found vibrate alert is always on.
F
Is PVplayer in the extended ROM
First upgrade was to the iMate test ROM. Fast but was only test so still had issues
Next upgrade was to all new Orange ROM I have an M5000 so this seemed sensible. Still better than original but radio version was only 1.03
This upgrade lasted about 3 days then kept ROM just updated radio to 1.09 due to call and signal issues.
I was using this ROM like this for about a week. I nearly threw it out the car window several times. I rang my phone on 2 occasions and watched it do nothing. Twice I waited 30 seconds until it hit my voicemail still no ringing.
I have now done my last (I hope) upgrade to the iMate 1.30.76 ship ROM. This seems so much faster and to date it has not managed to test my patience.
Does anyone now if PVplayer is in the Orange extended ROM if not any one no where I can get it?
Yes PVPlayer is in the Orange extended Rom
Fourth .cab file when unlock the extended Rom it starts by
MP-Shortcut-MMS1-JAVA5XX-CV-VOICE-PVPLAYER
Enjoy
PVplayer
Thank you. Luckily before I bombed off the Orange ROM I unlocked the extended ROM and then backed it up.

Quick question for those of you using WM6!

Hi all,
As many of you have heard (or experienced), many Hermes units seem to exhibit less than stable behavior with the production WM5 ROM, or even some of the cool ones here.
Browsing the other forum, we are all to familiar with:
1 - Camera taking black pictures
2 - SD Card not recognized
3 - System hangs
4 - Unit gets very hot and drains battery
5 - Using the alarms is out of the question due to reliability
etc.
After two months of testing, I have two choices:
A - Go back to my Wizard 8125.
B - Move on up to WM6, and see if these issues will be resolved.
My question for those of you have taken the WM6 leap is:
"If you have experienced annoying system hangs, battery drains, and so forth, with WM5, have these issues been resolved when you upgraded to WM6?"
I want so badly to stick with the Hermes, and I'd love to learn all about the various WM6's ROMs... But not if this unit will be as unstable as before.
Any quick thoughts would be appreciated.
I'm ready to hit this forum and the wiki, and learn all there is to know about WM6... but NOT if this unit is still going act up.
I eagerly await your quick replies!
To be honest, I think WM6 is more stable overall compared to WM5 on my 8525.
I also have an 8125, and I have WM6 on that as well. The differences in functionality and the nice new interface are well worth it. The key (in my opinion) is to pick a ROM without all the extra 'garbage' added in, and be careful about the 3rd party apps you add. The core OS is very solid.
Generally speaking WM6 is faster with less hangs.
My only gripe with it is that after you have about 300 sms messages, typing gets slow .... like really delayed ... to solve this i turned the Autospeller thingy off, and it seems to be working flawlessly now!
Compatability is great, it actually just WORKS! .... *cough* most of the time *cough* ... no seriously it rarely hangs, and only the really old applications don't seem to run.
Alarms, christ don't get me started ... i personally just add a calender entry, with the alarm function turned on, it always works and reminds me 15 mins earlier than the desired time
My unit only gets hot while in my pocket a lot or while charging ... i have radio rom 1.41 and the battery life is good, but not as good, i advise 1.40 (for my device it worked best)
SD card not being recognised? never had that problem with WM6
Camera taking black pictures? ... well moving it out into the light generally helps, but out of 300 pictures so far none have been black!
i've also noticed that boot times are slightly quicker
and using IE is MUCH faster and smoother
WM6 is more visually pleasing and is smoother with less hangs. I'm using Sleuth's VARIANT of LVSW ... and its good, i'm an anti-black guy, Black just doesnt do it for me, too unreliable (IMHO!) but well done to JJ for it all, i'm not knocking him, just my personal experience
dropped calls or missed calls are a thing of the past with WM6, i suffered SO MANY during WM5 ... also the lack of OEM images is good, byebye orange customisations horay!! (backup your extended rom 1st, it might be useful later on)
i completely agree with the above statement.
WM6 is great. Haven't had any problems with it. but choose your ROM carefully. I use LVSW, and tried Black Dymond. Both were great, i personally had better luck with LVSW. Radio 1.41 seems to be working well for me, I haven't tried 1.40, so i can't speak to the battery life. make the WM6 jump. you won't be sorry.
WM6 works for me
I had some of the problems you described with WM5 that came with my JASJAM. I have since upgraded to WM6 using the Elf version of LSVW. It works very well for me so far. The only thing to watch out for is that after installing the WM6, it somehow changed the device id and my WebCamera Plus app would not activate anymore. I have to call the Ateksoft to issue me another activation code.

There's always going to be these small problems with an upgrade, but i think it's still agreed that WM5 < WM6
Hey hey!
These first five posts are VERY encouraging!
I am starting to get excited about it now...!
I'll wait to see who else can offer their opinions.

No one elses opinion matters.
My only regret with WM6 is not taking the plunge sooner. See my signature for my configuration.
I am using black dymond 3.5 for past two weeks now and so far it's just rock solid and fast. No hang ups. Quick response to buttons / commands. No drop calls. Smooth operations. Nice visual interface. No complaints what so ever.
My prior cingular rom was stable but too slow and clumsy.
Anybody who is confident in performing upgrade should do it especially as now the risk of bricking the device is very low with Hard SPL 2.10 Olipro.
My 2 cents

Hi all,
A - Go back to my Wizard 8125.
Well, I must say that my experience has been awsome with many of the roms on my 8525 especially JJ's stuff, yes I am a devoted black follower . My experience with the wizard or 8125 was horrible, never modified it at all so i don't know how it does otherwise but I thought it was a piece of ****e.
In conclusion my advice is go wm6 and you will have a new addiction. It is faster, more memory and of course the many other perks like when you get to show your friends that your already runnin wm6 and their stuck with 5
Just follow the steps hard spl, radio then rom and you should be just fine.
I almost forgot, the only times I have experience problems/ instabilities was when I installed things to storage card rather than main memory.

I have SoftBank X01HT... I've just upgraded my ppc to Black diamond 3.5 and it works perfect... But I still had the same problem with capturing image in the dark place and it comes up with black picture.. the flash doesn't help at all.. it seems like it's not functional... I hope someone could help me with this... Any Advice? Please feel free to tell me.. I'm waiting.. thanks in advance....
Okay, guys!
I am sold!
I will do my readings; check out the various ROMs, and away I go!
And of course, Hard SPL is a must!
And I agree with the post a few posts back... I am all for a less bloated ROM.
I use my PPC for very specific tasks (Adobe Reader, Outlook, GPS, phone, voice command)... and the less junk/crap/freeware/shareware/malware/utils/bloatware/games I have installed, the better.
I will do some investigating, and I shall take the plunge!!!
Thanks!!!

Hi, I have similar problems. I am trying to find out what's going on and the symptoms are like you say: battery drains too fast. Let's say it the battery gets hot, there's something wrong. If you measure the current usage with ACBPowerMeter you will see a high load, like 300-400ma, even with all stuff off, radio off, wifi off, incoming beams off, bt off etc, nada. Now, if you pull out the battery, leave the device the some hours, then start again, power it up, activate GSM and everything, you should be luck and see a current of maybe as low as 30-60ma, even with full brightness on the display. And one time it was okay the whole day, but then all of a sudden, maybe after I hooked up with Activesync or got an SMS, it's gone bananas again.. sigh.. There's gotta be something strange that's completely wrong. I've tried many radios no difference, I've tried bandswitch to limit to GSM only as I live in a area with maybe not super quality 3G signal, did not sort out the problem yet. I had WM6 from LVSW 19-05-2007 with all kinds of radios, then moved on to Pro Black, same problem, but will no try black dymond as someone else mentioned problem was gone with that ROM.
Please all, anyone else with these problems? Any good ideas what this can be? If the device is off for a long time, and I mean off as in battery pulld out, what difference does that make to having the battery off a short while, let's say some minutes? Is there some memory-stuff here? My device is just a week old, never wanted to use a native language WM5 that was in it, hoping this problem will be fixed..
thanks
Update:
I happened to purchase a faulty device!!! There was indeed a HW error on my brand new device so I got it swapped with another one that works. Not all problems are SW-bugs..
I use WM6 on both my 8525's without significant probs; battery drain seems less with radio v.1.38 than 1.40 or greater although use Band Switch to keep phone on GSM when not cruising the net; initial boot up is faster; I've not had overheating probs, no micro SD card issues . Wish I'd gone to WM6 much sooner, but I think having the Cingular 8525 makes a big difference as well.
My battery gets hot and discharges too quick even with radio off. I've tried all radios, am at 1.34 now, will try the 1.43 later tonight if I am able to fully charge battery quick enough... The thing is, if I remove battery for some hours and start over, it's okay, 40ma, radio on etc. Then, at some random point in time, the phone can just lay on the table untouched, it starts consuming battery as crazy, 300-400ma, measured by ACB Power Meter. It's dricing me nuts... I've tried to kill processes, to watch what's going on... I don't have a clue yet, except from there's something "running wild"..
Update:

Hi all!
Okay, I am taking the plunge!
I think I'll stick with Radio 1.40, which I have instealled. Hard SPL is also installed...
...so, the only decision is to figure out which ROM!
I have rounded the choice down to two, based on what I've read.
I'm either gonna go with LSVW or Elf's version of LSVW.
Both are downloaded and sitting on my hard drive, ready to roll.
I just hope I can still use PocketMirror; iGuidance; and spb Pocket Plus.
We shall see!!!!
Any final suggestions are welcome!!!
Thanks!
What have you got to lose?
Just follow MrVanx's guide and enjoy it.
Unwired,
You actually bring up an EXCELLENT question!
"What have I got to lose?"
The simple answer: Time!
As much as I enjoy my hobby that involves tweaking PC's, PocketPCs, laptops, gadgets, and so forth...
...I am an attorney and I do run a business.
This means my time is very important and quite valuable to me.
For every hour I spend tweaking; resintalling apps; customizing e-mail settings; testing the phone; resyncing my business contacts with PocketMirror; researching the proper registry hacks....
...that is an hour I lose making MONEY!
So... As much as I would lllllllove to play with and test single new ROM and its variant, and as much I enjoy spending my day enjoying playing with the latest and greatest operating systems...
It kills me when I can't service clients, and when I can't run my business, because I am busy YET AGAIN(!) resintalling my PocketPC.
That's why I love getting opinions before I move ahead...!
So there ya go... I have no time to lose!

Really the difference is not only the ROM you use, but what you do with the ROM...this causes ppl talking about one ROM so quick and other ROM so slow, if you take a search, someone (don't remember) make a speed test after HR every ROM, and the results shows the ROMs aren't so different.
Of course if you havn't time for this, this isn't your forum

Blank Screen of Death [BSoD]

Hi all.
I have recently flashed my Herm to have the fantastic Black MAJIK rom. All went very well and I was pleased with the rom. I did have issues with the wireless not working and also with the blank screen detailed below.
When HTC released the update for WM6 for the TyTn, I decided to flash to that rom and give it a try. Again, works well, although I had to flash back to Radio 1.38 to get the Bluetooth to work properly with my Jabra headset. (I am on Orange in the UK - have not tried 1.43, as could not find it!)
The big problem is this :- randomly (could be 6 hours, could be ten minutes), the phone does not wake up from sleep. The lights are still flashing (I have not tried calling the phone - I will do that next time), but it will not wake up. No ActiveSync at all.
Soft reset is the only viable option.
Does anyone know a fix for this? (Yes, I have roamed through a number of forums and tried the link for 'DisableSyncSchedule', but that did not work.)
I have tried to re-flash the rom a few times, even soft-reset before the HTC stuff installs, stopped GPRS traffic and made sure that the IMAP does not connect. Whatever I do, the problem persists.
I have installed the following: HTC TyTn rom:
- SPB Diary
- SOTI Controller
- mfrazz CommManager
- WMG 3G Video Black Keypad
- GreenBatteryFix
- HTC X-Button
- Pimp my Black
I am loathed to revert to WM5, but if that is the only way foreward, then I might need to.
Any help would be superb!
One other thing
Sorry, meant to say that I am currently running with just the base HTC rom and nothing else installed. Let's see how that goes.
First, The radio should not have anything to do with bluetooth. This is the radio rom for cellular calls, not the BT radio.
BSoD question: Do you have a media card? Have you installed apps on the media card? There have been issues with the media card falling asleep. I had issues in the past installing applicaitons on the card. As make sure that you configure mail NOT to store messages on the media card.
Next....Uninstall all applicaiton that you have installed. Do you still have the problem? IF this fixes the problem, reinstall apps 1 at a time untill you figure out which is causing the problem.
I do have a memory card installed, but no apps are installed from it and the mail attachments are not stored on the card but in the memory. I have recently reset the mobile and have noting installed (not even ext rom) and have only set up mail, sync'd and configured for Orange.
Interesting about the radio having no affect, as it made the Jabra work - no other changes made. (I have re-flashed since then, but still using 1.38 radio rom.)
So I get this all the time, I don't have an SD card - so its not an SD card issue.
I've got 2 Tmobile MDA Vario II's and ever since upgrading from the stock Tmobile rom the phone will hang with a black screen but the message light will blink. If I put the phone in flight mode it never does it.
Its happened on the following roms:
XDA Mobile / Faria's rom
All the Black roms
LVSW
It didn't do it with Tmobile WM5 Rom. Tried various radio updates and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I know Jasjammin mentioned he had seen it but nothing further from him on this.
ITS DRIVING ME NUTS
Some other people must be seeing this also? Please help. When it happens no mails/sms or voice calls so its like the phone is switched off. I too am now looking at downgrading back to WM5
I'm wondering if it might be in the boot loader / rom flasher issue? But I sure I've not done anything others haven't done.
Regards,
Neil.
Bump - nobody else seeing this? Find it hard to believe?!

Hi prophetuser
I did notice this issue in the new HTC WM6 ROM (not the dopod one) which you have mentioned. But I flashed my ROM to Black Majik and its cool....I didnt notice this problem.
My device is imate JASJAM. I think the black majik ROM is better, but I noticed one more post in this thread mention all black ROM had the problem as I have not come across it yet.
Maybe the new Black Satin which jasjamming is cooking will not have it and probably you may have to try it, until a new HTC ROM update is leaked I suggest you to use black majik.

SOD CAUSE
IN my whole 6 months having my hermes i had never had SOD until i flashed the official dopod rom with matt kitchen. when I traced the source that SOD had came from it was a bad extended rom flash i done. This cause the device to go sleep after the screen time out, and also if i put the phone in idle mode i had to soft reset everytime.
i flashed an original operator t-mobile rom with the extended rom and all my problems went away.
My device has never been quicker no more SOD and battery life is superb with the new radio 1.47 after one whole day with normal use with 3g internet I am still on 70% battery life.
Now I have the perfect device and i think hermes WM6 crave and addiction will be thinned out as there is not much you can do now with the hermes as to wait for PROTON or fully integrated touchflo working ROM.
p.s
TRY FLASHED A AN ORIGINAL OPERATOR ROM WITH THE EXTENDED ROM YOU CAN USE ROMKOCH TO EXTRACT THOSE TWO AND FLASHED YOUR ROM BEFORE FLASHING WM6 AND GUANRANTEE YOU WILL SEE AND FEEL A MUCH MORE RESPONSIVE HERMES. THATS MY 2 cents
