Bluetooth connection to a UMTS capable phone...

Hi All,
I would like to set up my MDAIII with a Bluetooth Modem connection to my UMTS capable phone (Nokia 6680)
Unfortunatly the MDA does not recognize the Modem Service of my phone... or any phone for that matter.
Any Ideas or hack anyone can recommend?
Thanks,
Matt

Hello xda-rocks,
Thanks for the link. Unfortunatly after copying the BTWizardProfiles.dll over and changing the registry I can now indeed see the Modem service of my phone but I cant create a connection to it.
I forgot to add I have a German version of the MDA.
I also tried to install the complete 0.0.3900 stack and it did not help.
Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Matt
When you say you can't create a connection - do you mean you can't pair the devices or do you mean that you can pair them, but you can't create the bluetooth dial-up connection?
This topic has been covered several times - if you need further help PM me and I'll talk you through it. Then, we wont be creating another long thread.

Internet Sharing and Vista

Hello, been using custel 2.5 for a while now, probably the day after it came out. Now I need to use internet sharing adn I`m not able to do it thru BT. When I pair my device I can do activesync just fine, but on Vistas BT manager (BT Devices) its not showing the dial-up device. This is strange it works fine with the USB connection, but I really need the BT. Please help. Thanks in advance.
BTW it used to work with wizard with WM6. Thanks
its not a dail up service to start off with its a PAN. second what BT stack are you using? I had the broadcomm stack first and that wouldnt work so i had to switch to the native MS stack and its works fine. If you know how to edit the bt.inf file on your vista machine that will install the MS stack instead of the other stack.

I remmber on the wizard WM6 it just showed up as a dial-up device and I just dial it. How do I do it here ? Maybe I dont even have to edit anything, maybe Im just having a senior moment thx for the reply
believe it or not if you use your handheld's help program and search for internet sharing it will give you instructions on how to set it up. and no it does not show up on vista as a dail up network since it is not also search this forum for Bluetooth PAN and there is lots of info
doh I never even looked at help on the phone thanks I see how to do it now I see that on the wizard they used the old wm5 modemlink or whatever its called. thanks again but plz try to be nicer to ppl next time

I noticed the speed decrease over PAN compared to the USB cable as well. I get way more fluctuations over BT. I am sticking to the USB but it is a nice fallback. Also, for me, Internet Sharing is a night and day difference over dial-up networking/modem driver. It is so easy. This feature is a WM6 gem!

Bluetooth is severely limited in Terms of speed, especially if you're not using Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR

vista 64 bit
Hey Guys!
My first post with such a stupid problem:
i'm trying to connect to internet with vista 64bit using my hermes over usb. but it doesnt seem to work.
Until last week i had win xp sp3 on my pc and the internet sharing option in hermes worked without any problems. Now with Vista Ultimate 64 bit i can connect the phone to pc, sync works perfect.
when i start internet sharing, phone builds up a GPRS connection but after 2-3 sec it disconnects the data connection and active sync authentication starts with vista.
In vista i cant find any modem connection in network settings. The only thing i found was in device manager when phone is connected to pc (HTC USB Modem)
here is my spec :
- windows vista ultimate 64bit
- mobile device center 6.1
- Framework etc. is installed
my Hermes:
- HTC_HERMES_S64_WM_6.1_TouchFlo2D_UC_V3_WWE_02.10.2008
- SPL 2.10 olipro
- radio ver 1.54.30.10
i have re-installed the drivers and device center several times without success.
What the hell i forgot or what i'm doing wrong...
Are there any tools or drivers i should use?
My friend has a vista 32 bit system. with his pc its no prob...some rndis drivers installed itself and we began to surf.
But in my vista 64, i missed this rndis driver installation......
Please can someone help me, i'm so confused...
Try checking your firewall... maybe disable it to test and see if it works temporarily.
Alright, thank you i'll try it on monday when i'm in office...
Ive no i-net there so i must be prepared, so are there any specific drivers or something i need to download? Or is device center enough?
Close Firewall doesnt really work...
Yesterday, i had a connection for one time...
In Device Manager, there was a "Remote ndis based Internet sharing device"
and internet worked...Today nothing works...
What have I to do in Vista? Should I deactivate some processes like wcescomm.exe? When I do this, It automatically restarts when Internet Sharing connection breaks down.
Could someone explain step by step how to get Internet Sharing work (Steps, Tools, Programs, Drivers)?!?
Thanks guys!
Same Problem
I am having the same exact problem.....
I HAD windows xp sp2 and everything worked fine once activesync was installed.....
I HAVE windows vista 64 bit and the device under the device manages show that its not working... it instals the RNDIS (whatever) drivers but dose not work...
I TRYed windows vista 32 bit, everything works fine..... the device conects with no problems...
SO the problem is that its VISTA 64bit so what would be causing this ???
btw my phone is a WM6 8525 from ATT with Internet Sharing
I need the internet sharing option when im at HomeHome and not at school, so im thinking about taking my laptop back to office depot!
So glad im not alone...
In meantime, in arranged with the prob... I think no one knows a solution...

How do you install it? please guide.
Download the file, un-zip the files from the archive, connect to your device and copy the files to the memory or the memory card.
On your device run 'File Explorer', browse to the files and then touch and hold the file name then select copy. Next browse to device>windows>Start Menu>Programs then in an empty area of the screen touch and hold and select 'Paste Short-cut' Now the program will show in start menu.
Thank you for this piece of software!
I'm looking for a Windows Mobile application for my Artemis that logs the GPS coordinates when I'm movin. It sould be posible to import these coordinates into Google Earth Pro and see the route I've made.
Who knows a program that can do this ?

i dont know your device. the requirements are on the page i linked:
Windows Mobile 2003 or Windows Mobile 5.0
Windows Mobile 6.0 compatible
so if you have one of these i'd say it will work (but that's just a directed guess )

Cttransnb,
Thanks for the tools. The sms piece works very nice...For the GPSViewer, the speed is wrong on my p3300. It shows 56km/hr while i was doing 110+km/hr. I think the scale is wrong...by 1/2...do you have this problem? Second problem is the GPSViewer dump a GPStxt file on the system and if you not careful, the file will keep growing...and growing...
I think there is a later version...no? Can u tell me the software vendor for the GPSViewer? Can u check to see it there is some other files missing?
Thanks,
p3300...OS 3.7 from HTC...thinking of moving to B&B4.0....

whats the name of the software?
TomTom Software can be downloaded for free directly from the Homepage.
Only the maps cost money!
If you hard reset the Artemis it will re-install the TomTom application when the device boots up, you will loose all data stored on the device doing this though.
For the maps etc you will need to install them from the DVD that came with the Artemis, once you get it up and running again connect the unit to the PC and let TomTom Home look for the software upgrade to 6,030 - which it should download and install - Mike

The previously mentioned Ateksoft program is the best implementation I've seen to date. Basically turns your phone into an IP Webcam. Cost is about $20, and in my opinion it's well worth the money if you have need for such a thing.
A couple more you might try (and they're free) are Whoosh Cam and Comvu PocketCaster. The latter isn't quite a realtime webcam, but it does have some other interesting features, such as capturing and storing video to an upload server for later viewing.
These are all nice ... if you want to connect to be "tethered."
However, does anyone know of a "stand-alone" application where I can use my HTC Hermes as a webcam and broadcast to Skype, MSN Messenger, etc. that is running on that same device?
Thanks in advance!

What do you mean by "tethered"? None of these require your Hermes to be attached to a PC via cable (USB connection). They can all work through Wifi or GPRS. And Ateksoft Webcamera Plus DOES work with Skype, MSN Messenger, etc. Did you bother to read the program capabilities linked in my previous post?

As far as I know that is a function of the client and neither Pocket Skype or MSN has that built in. Maybe one day...

Right. I see what he means by "tethered" now. The mobile versions of MSN Messenger, Skype, etc don't have video capability from the device. That's a limitation of those app's, not the webcam software mentioned.
I imagine when that capability comes to the mobile versions, you probably wouldn't need to use a second webcam app for the device to get the video stream.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
1. Setting up a BT PAN
2. Tether your Vogue to your laptop meaning share it's data connection.

im trying to set up a bluetooth pan.. to send internet from my pc to my fone
I don't think that htere is currently anyway to set up a BT Pan. MS BT Stack does not support it. I believe it is an option with some of the Widcomm BT stacks that I have seen.

just use the widcomm stack (which you should be doing already anyways, microsoft stack blows) pair your phone with the computer, go into the internet sharing and set it to bluetooth then connect to your phone using the access point option from the computer and there ya go, internet.
