Bluetooth connection to a UMTS capable phone... - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi All,
I would like to set up my MDAIII with a Bluetooth Modem connection to my UMTS capable phone (Nokia 6680)
Unfortunatly the MDA does not recognize the Modem Service of my phone... or any phone for that matter.
Any Ideas or hack anyone can recommend?
Thanks,
Matt

Hello xda-rocks,
Thanks for the link. Unfortunatly after copying the BTWizardProfiles.dll over and changing the registry I can now indeed see the Modem service of my phone but I cant create a connection to it.
I forgot to add I have a German version of the MDA.
I also tried to install the complete 0.0.3900 stack and it did not help.
Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Matt

When you say you can't create a connection - do you mean you can't pair the devices or do you mean that you can pair them, but you can't create the bluetooth dial-up connection?
This topic has been covered several times - if you need further help PM me and I'll talk you through it. Then, we wont be creating another long thread.

SO CLOSE get using the SX66 Bluetooth modem - Please help!!!

Hi guys!
I am a little late in the game... needing to pack up in a few hours!
I have an SX-66, which I am setting up to use a wireless Bluetooth Modem for my laptop.
I am so close to getting it working! I need one more piece of the puzzle!
I have paired the devices
The wireless modem service is visible
My SX66 GPRS settings are perfect for rogers (internet.com/wapuser1/wap)
I have used my laptop with a the BT modem in my T616, so I know it works
The laptop connects to the SX66 - I see the phone icon pop up.
BUT... I don't know what number my laptop should dial!
WIth my T616 it was *99***1#, and away it went.
With my old Nokia phone I think it was just *9.. I can't remember.
I tried typing internet.com in the laptop, but no luck.
What number do i set my laptop to dial??? Once I get it, I think it'll work. Your help is needed!
It's so close... I see it trying on the network, but then disconnects.
I started the Wireless Modem App, and I see the Send/receive icons flash, but then, same thing... disconnects right away.
How do I make sure it accesses my Rogers profile???
Thank you!
Mike
I am on the right track.
It's *99#...
But hmm... it seems to have hung up on me again...
interesting...
It works!!!!!!!
And the biggest miracle of all........ The answer was in the manual!!
That's a new one!
What was the problem then?
It just started working!
I used that dialing code again, and boom... Perfect connection!
here is a manual from i-mate about how to use bluetooth modem...
Hi there!!!
If u still couldn't get through try this:
1) Tap G Icon on yiour SX66 and conncet GPRS...and say browse for few sec ON YOUR PDA
2) Disconnect the same and then use the Dial Up from yr Laptop...dial *99#.....*99***1# is used in case wherein one nesds to initialise MODEM by putting Modem Initialising string in Modem set up in control panel
I hope, this helps
Good luck

Does anyone know how to use the 9000 as a modem ?

Hi,
Does anyone know how to use the Universal as a Modem ?
I installed the Modem Driver , but I cannot get it to work !
Are there any changes I need to make in the LAN Settings in the Internet Explorer ?
Thanks
Micman
Guess you're referring to USB modem.
1. Disconnect USB Cable.
2. Universal: START/PROGRAMS/Wireless modem
- Set USB as Connection Type
- Tools/Options: Check Use preferred GPRS / Verify APN
- Start the MODEM
3. Connect USB Cable. PC should detect the modem.
- Install drivers from original CD (D:\OEM\APPS\Drivers\USB Modem)
- Start USBModem_Dialer.exe - located in the drivers folder (Fill the UN/PWD, APN...)
- It will create a new dial up connection. Click CONNECT. It will probably fail but don't worry.
4. Try to connect using the created Dialup Connection
- Reenter UN/PWD.
- CONNECT
GOOD LUCK!
Thanks a lot !!!
Does this same work as Bluetooth Modem ???
That would make my day.
Cheers
Micman
When i used my old XDA2i and XDA2s as a wireles modem (USB or Bluetooth) i did as said above, but when you enter ""wireless modem"" it turn the phone part off for making and recieving calls and makes the phone a medem only.
BUT on my Exec using the smae toshiba laptop i have made a bluetooth conection to my Exec, then told the laptop this is a modem on the new Bluetooth comm port.
When i ask the laptop to dial the new conection it dials the default APN in the phone and works fine.
so i dont use wireless modem, and i can still have the phone on for recieving calls.
Can someone please confirm that if you use a Exec as a ""wireless modem"" it dose or dose not turn the phone off so it cant recieve calls or have they now made it do both at the same time
Thanks
John
Making a BT Connection is even more simpe!
1.Put Universal in discovery mode.
2. Search for a new device on PC / ADD Dial Up Networking Service
PC will install a Bluetooth modem
3. Create a dial up connection, enter UN/PWD & Phone number: *99#
VOILA
Hi,
great , thanks a lot for the tips, but .....
It installs a 33600 Standard Modem Driver, and I can't find a Bluetooth driver.
Am i forgetting something ?
Micman
Perhaps you should reinstall/upgrade BT drivers.
BT Modem is a part of BT Stack/Drivers.
Actually I am not 100% certain, but it seems like the BT Connection also automatically starts a Wireless modem service. If I am not mistaken, my BT Modem conneciton also drops when I answer or make the call.
So to answer your question: Yes, you can receive the call. But when you answer, the dial up connection drops.

seek for Internet Connection Sharing in your program.. that's yr wireless modem app..

When I first connected the phone to the usb Vista automatically installed drivers but since then I've been unable to work out how I set it up as a modem from there so any help is greatly appreciated .

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
1. Setting up a BT PAN
2. Tether your Vogue to your laptop meaning share it's data connection.

im trying to set up a bluetooth pan.. to send internet from my pc to my fone
I don't think that htere is currently anyway to set up a BT Pan. MS BT Stack does not support it. I believe it is an option with some of the Widcomm BT stacks that I have seen.

just use the widcomm stack (which you should be doing already anyways, microsoft stack blows) pair your phone with the computer, go into the internet sharing and set it to bluetooth then connect to your phone using the access point option from the computer and there ya go, internet.

DUN on Tilt 2 bluetooth

I've been wracking my brain trying to figure this out. I'm trying to establish an internet connection through my tilt 2 from my other pda. When I pair I see the dial up networking option. When I connect, it seems to connect but it won't establish an internet connection and gets dropped.
I've used this method to connect to my old Nokia E62 so I know my pda is able to make these types of connections. I was wondering if it's there's a work around for allowing this. I'm using the Energy Rom Phoenix2 build 21876.
I've searched hi and low but doesn't seem anyone else has had this problem.
Anyone have any ideas on this?
If the other PDA has wifi then use the WIFI sharing..
I'll have to go that route. I was just hoping to save on battery consumption
Same problem for me on the Tilt 2 on e2ROM. My old Tilt with WM6.1 works with BT DUN but not WM6.5 I guess. But BT PAN does work great on e2ROM just not DUN.

It's not a wm6.5 issuse because I flashed a 6.1 ROM and I still had the same problem. I'm thinking it's a problem with the BT stack they're using.

I gave up for now. I have finals to study for. Maybe I'll try again in a few weeks. If you get it then post it for everyone. Thank you.
Has anyone ever found a solution to this?
I'm trying to the same thing with a Trimble Survey Controller and my Tilt2. The survey specific software is written to only use a DUN for internet access in order to acquire NTRIP corrections.
What really sucks is that I can use Wifi to give the PDA Internet access as confirmed with PIE. But the survey software will not use the Wifi
if your wanting to do it over bluetooth set the dial as *#99# i belive to make the other pda do gprs and send the data back via bluetooth
