Bluetooth manager will not open - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Running ROM 1.40.00, radio 1.12.00. After any significant time, or after using WiFi trying to use Bluetooth via the Bluetooth Manager it is completely unresponsive and does nothing when I attempt to open it. Literally nothing. It does not matter if I use the icon in the bar on the bottom of the screen or the BTConnManagerCE.exe itself. A radio on/off does not help, only a soft reset will. Sure would like any advice on a work around or fix. I prefer not to upgrade my radio unless that is a DEFINITE fix.

Please list the apps you have loaded on your device.

I have the same problem but came up with a work around.

Thanks poga - works for me
Wow, lots of us have this problem. I like quickly killing all running apps rather than a soft reset. Works perfectly for me. Thanks.

Find out what process to kill for BT to work

Since I've installed Rom 1.40, I've literally never been able to use Bluetooth without doing two consequtive soft resets. Bad case of "insufficient driver memory" -- I don't know if anybody else has it that bad? I've read all the posts about this and nothing seems to help in my case (BA with Rom 1.40, BT 3900, NOT running SPB Pocket plus).
Anyway, I did a routine pc backup just now with Sprite, which kills all processes first. When the backup is complete, it always prompts to perform a soft reset (in order to resume all processes that are normally loaded at startup, I guess). I was wondering what would happen if I didn't do this so I pressed cancel. Then I tried to turn on Bluetooth -- and voilĂ , it worked.
Ok, guess it's pretty logical, anyone could have figured out that some running process must cause the "insufficient driver memory" error. But I'd like to examine this further and find out which process exactly, hoping I might one day be able to use Bluetooth by killing that process (if it's nothing vital, off course) instead of doing my usual two soft resets.
So my question is: does anyone know of an application that can show and kill running processes (more selectively than Sprite Backup does), and that isn't too large?
This is a great question.
Ever since 1.40 has been installed, I feel like my SX-66 just "isn't the same" anymore.
I am not sure if it has to do with the 1.40 upgrade, or another app I installed, but I tell you...
I need to suspend the unit and turn it back on to get Wi-Fi to work sometimes.
I need soft-resets for the BT driver to work...
I'll often put it in the cradle and activesync starts and then stops right away...
(And plus I am stuck with the buzzing oscillator, too).
This has gone from my #1 favorite PPC in the world, to something that is getting more and more annoying.
I wonder how things would have been if I left the OLD firmware, the OLD EXT-ROM, and the OLD Radio ROM, right out of the box...
Strange...
Maybe a new ROM will come out soon enough that solves all these problems.
I do hope someone responds to this thread.
It would be great if we could find out which process is preventing the BT radio from working. (Although, maybe it's just the number of processes, and/or the memory used....)
I am going to try allocating more program memory and see what happens...
Thanks for your answer. Problems here, apart from Bluetooth:
WiFi -- Often can't turn it on. This is an known problem on the forum. My workaround: if I turn it on and off immediately after a soft reset, before I do anything else, it generally works fine when I need it later. Otherwise, I have to soft reset again.
Active Sync -- Sometimes slow, sometimes connects and disconnects again, sometimes does nothing at all. Also, there's a growing number of stored e-mail messages that get sync'ed almost every time, even though nothing's changed. Other than that, it usually works ok.
Whistling screen -- NO, fortunately this hasn't happened to me yet. I hope I stay safe, because from what I've read it's a pain... :?
I remember I had some WiFi and BT problems before I installed 1.40, and besides I really really want Media Player 10 so downgrading is not an option...
Well, even if the problem is the number of running processes rather than a specific one, I still hope we'll be able to kill some non-vital ones to free up driver memory...
This morning, I tried PHM Task Manager 0.1 which allows you to view running processes and, theoretically, end them, but every process I tried to end just stayed right where it was (even after refreshing the screen)!? Are there any other task managers that can do this? Anyone?
Please report if you had any luck after allocating more memory. Although I read somewhere that the amount of memory for loading drivers is limited by default, and that allocating more overall working memory doesn't help... I've tried it myself, allocating as much memory as I could (probably about 40-50 MB free program memory), but still had the "insufficient memory" issue with Bluetooth.
A way to get bluetooth working everytime
It might not be the easiest way to get your bluetooth working but it does work everytime. First thing you do is set your phone to flight mode. After that then you perform a soft reset. When you are back up then turn on your bluetooth. After your bluetooth is on then you can turn the phone back on again. Click on your signal icon at the top of the screen and choose settings. It will ask you if you want to turn the phone on. Choose yes and for me I have to do this twice before the phone comes back on. After that it will work everytime I reset until I turn off bluetooth. Hope this helps

Activesync conflics with McShield.exe and so runs painfully slowly.
This is the active virus scan part of McAfee Antivirus. If you are using McAfee, before you dock your BA, right click the McAfee icon in your system tray and disable virus scan.
Hope that helps.
I have a Cingular SX66. No ROM upgrades yet. I have experienced similar problems and have been able to conclusively trace mine to Goodlink. This app is a necessary evil on my (corporate) device. This hog takes 6+ MB to run, more than 3 times any other program I have. If people think MS VoiceCommand is crappy programming (although I love it), then you ought to load Goodlink on and watch it muck up the works. As soon as I kill Goodlink.exe with MemMaid (great app by the way) bluetooth has no problems.

automapa issue - not working

Hi,
Is anybody here using automapa? I'd like to use one too, but I have some pretty big inconvenience while using . It opens, but it gets stuck after it catches gps signal (it never happens indoor, where is no gps for example) so i can try to hide it, which actually works, but than i cant recall it again. it is going in background all the time, so even if i use manager to shut it down it doesn't. Didnt you have similar problems with it? any ideas what can be wrong, or how can i fix it?
The only way to solve the situation is soft reset..
I wanna add, that i had lately hard reset, so everything is stock, i use some soft like tweakHD, change screen, sktools and advanced config, nothing more..
please help, i'm going on vacation in two weeks it would be great if it works..
thanks in advance, best regards

Tmo wm6.5 stock rom - top bar notification and task manager drop menu gone

I upgrade my phone to wm6.5 after the tmo stock rom is released, and am happy with it in general. However this is still one bug, which I searched but couldn't find anyone talking about it.
The customized notification and task manager drop menu will disappear after making phone calls using either speaker phone or sometimes with bluetooth. The problem is, it's not reproducible, but happens at least once for every three phone calls like that. The only way to bring those back is a soft reset which is kinda annoying. The only conflicting software I can think of maybe the smartlock I used, which is used to automatically lock the phone during standby or in the phone conversation.
Does anyone have a similar problem? I had similar problems when I was using wm6.1 stock rom (before the upgrade) but not nearly as bad (maybe once in 20 phone calls).
Thank you!
I had this problem when I installed a taskbar that technically wasn't for stock 6.5
This happens with the stock rom without any other taskbar installed.
Looks like no one has the same issue?
I've had it maybe not show up all the time without a custom taskbar installed, but never had to reset to get it back again.
Finally figured out this is actually associated with the smartlock I'm using.
Switched over to csdevctrl and symptom seems gone.

Most functional Android rom

I just flashed my Kaiser with Fat Free Froyo RLS5. I really like the Android OS, but the lack of functionality is bothersome. I can't type into the Google search bar that is on the desktop, the camera doesn't work and, worst of all, the USB to PC data connection is inoperable. These things along with some other minor things like the fact that I can't change the volume of the alarm clock make me want to try a different flavor. I've only been using it for about an hour and already found all these problems so I can image that there are more.
All I am looking for it a version of Android that will allow me to use the camera, browse my SD card from my PC, and has a working WiFi. Speed is also a concern.
If I could get some suggestions I would be appreciative.
Thank you.

Camera not working is related to your kernel/radio rom. Also you could use not so super froyo if you want the same with more features. If you want more speed I suggest a Cyanogen based rom as these are the fastest currently. I suggest changing your kernel to l1qu1ds latest .32 kernel via the thread that is stickied at the top.
USB to pc is not working through my computer right now but adb is at least. What I do for data transfer is just use System on NAND and Data on SD and use a card reader for the data.
Lastly, remember that android on the Kaiser is by no means perfect and is still more or less of a thing to be like "Look what my old phone can do!" thing. If you want everything perfect then Windows mobile has that already. Otherwise if you want a cooler newer OS on your phone then its going to take a little time for us. We have come a long ways but not all the way there yet.

the search bar will work if you download google search from the market, it was removed since it can be installed from the market, fat free is fully functional you just have to work to get it going out of the gate, now in contrast not so super froyo is ready to go from the get go

I am using Fat Free Froyo RLS5 and all that stuff works for me.
USB to PC works perfectly in linux It works for me on windows 7 too, but you just have to wait a long time (maybe 2-5 mins) for the computer to recognise it.
To change the alarm volume just roll the jog wheel while in that menu (or press whatever buttons you have assigned to volume up/down)
Thanks for the help, guys.

I don't have a card reader; that is why this is important to me. Are there any Android versions that this works, or an app that I can install even?
Lastly, remember that android on the Kaiser is by no means perfect [...]

The only reason I don't want WMP is because it is ridiculously slow to respond. I had heard that Android was much faster so I am giving it a try.

That part really isn't a big deal; I probably would never even use it. It was just one of the many small glitches I was noticing during normal use. Things like there being no way to bring the phone back from sleeping except the power button (not even opening it!). At one point, when it is just sitting on my desk, the screen turned white and the phone was completely unresponsive. I had to hard reset it. They keyboard works except when dialing a number where it seems completely random.
If there is a workaround to these things, I'm fine with doing some personalizing, but if not, I would like to know if there are flavors that don't have these kinds of issues.
I think I will try Cyanogen like you suggested and see if I like it any better.
Thanks again for the help.

the white screen is a known issue apparently overclocking improves this
White screen is present when the system didn't draw the screen before it power up.
When you overclock the system is faster so it spend less time to draw the interface.
Sometimes you have with screen when the system sleep but it can't resume because the main app crashes.
To change the alarm volume just roll the jog wheel while in that menu

This changes "Ring volume" regardless of what I have opened.
Thanks for all the input, everyone.
I have tried four different Android builds now and I haven't gotten a USB data connection with any of them. I noticed that one of them had a Network option, as though I might be able to browse files of computers on the network which would solve my problem. Unfortunately, that particular build just says "Error" when I try to turn WiFi on.
Is there an android app I can install that will allow me to transfer files between my phone and a PC? That is really the number one priority right now. To test these Android builds I have been reverting back to WMP every time I want to try a different one because I need to put the androidinstall.tar onto my card. I tried loading a bunch of different ones on the card to avoid this, but I get "Permission denied" when I try to rename a file in the andboot folder.
Thanks again.

I have a kaiser with froyo kernel 2.6.32 date 9.9.2010 I have overclocked with atools to 500 mhz and also overclocked the GPU, battery is standard setting. My radio is Neon 1.65.24.36 Together with thoughtlesskyle`s (thank you!!) fat free release 5, i have a very stable situation here. I have to admit i am not a heavy user. Merely phonecalls and sms (or whatsup) and sygic navigation software . I only have to reboot once a week. I am not sure why, maybe because i use cachemate once a while.
For connection between pc and kaiser i use SD Share Dual Mount. It works perfectly. I had flashed the latest kernel(s) of l1q1d because of the alleged stable reboots. I am sad that i did not have stable reboots, it got stuck and i had to reinstall my apk`s again. And most important for me, the SD Share did not work with the latest kernel(s), thats why i reverted back to the 9.9.2010 one.
As for the white screen, it only happens to me if my kaiser goes asleep and i awake it immediately. If i take some seconds between asleep and awakening, it`s okay.
I have to thank many people here to be able to use my kaiser like i bought it yesterday or so. Maybe someone can try my settings and profit from it, like i do.

[Q] Bluetooth won't enable after OTA 4.2 update

Just done 4.2 update after I was offered it.
However my Bluetooth now will not enable. The notification bar Bluetooth icon highlights but goes back to grey, the on/off slider in settings immediately goes back to off and the power widget BT icon does nothing.
Any ideas? Searched the board but all i could find were people with stuttering issues, not complete failure to activate bluetooth.
Thanks :good:
Might be a stupid question, but have you tried rebooting the phone?
My phone ocassionally locks itself in "shutting off bluetooth" mode, but a reboot has always fixed it.
How embarrassing. Looks like a fair amount of people have the same issue:

Edit: yes, forgot to say, have rebooted and powered off/removed battery - still no change.
Some solution?

From what I've read the solution is to flash the factory image instead, or possibly just factory reset the phone.
But be aware that even with a cleanly flashed phone, BT has major issues in 4.2. Stuttering audio, disconnects, etc. Not everyone seems to be affected by this for whatever reason, but the new BT stack is definitely no hit.
Yeah, having the same exact issues. I'll wait for 4.2.1 before I flash any images.
Don't bother, still broken in 4.2.1
Bug number again: 39688. Please star it if you have the issue.
i know this thread hasnt been updated in a while but for anyone finding this thread through various searches, the fix to try if you are rooted is linked below. It appeared to be a simple permissions issue
