wondering, last night i forgot to charge the Universal, this morning it was off.
Plugged in the mains and booted the universal, all fine. Then i checked battery status and it was charching nicely.
Now my question, never checked it out and couldn't find anything in the forum so i am wondering :
is there no backup battery? it does not show in my battery settings. if it is not there is the universal the first one without? LOL
or does it show the backup battery only after the main removable battery is fully charged?
I also noticed it retained all my settings etc, my qtek s100 would have resetted already??
Greetz
DvL
there is no backup battery, the ram isnt volitile anymore its persistant, hence, no need for backup.
one of the BIG +'s for WM5
hehe
wow didn't even know that when i bought my universal LOL
ok i will never sell it now haha. anyone wanna buy a almost new qtek s100? hehe pick up only LOL
i really can't believe those people saying they prefer their mda's 1 2 3 compact now.. they are so outdated LOL
EXEC backup battery
I have just purchased a XDA EXEC on an O2 contract and in one of the instruction books supplied it mentions that there is both a lithium battery (the normal phone battery) and a NiMH button cell inside?
I have not seen any indication of this battery on the system information on the phone itself.
The switch you flick to get the battery out on this and the previous XDA's activated the backup battery on the XDA2, 2i and 2s.
Perhaps we have the same switch but no backup battery inside?
There is no backup battery, cause the Universal doesn't need it. *period*!
It's a new concept with persistent memory. No need for a backup battery (which will last only a limited time), cause memory content is save. It's just flash memory as in the sd-cards, which don't need any battery, too!
So no backup battery in Universal is an advantage not any disadvantage!
Got it now?

Hi Guys,
Whenever I remove the battery from my XDA 2S I lose everything and have to set up the OS from scratch.
I have spoken to O2 and they have told me this is normal? But how can this be? It is the most stupid thing I have ever heard.
Please if someone could just tell me if their XDA 2S does this I would be more than grateful!
Thanks in advance.

Go to settings/ Power icon and check the status of both the Main Battery and the backup Battery, the first could be at any charge % the backup Battery should be at 100%, this is used to hold the data on the phone for a short duration, sim card swap or battery swap with the machine selected OFF first. If its loosing data then there is something wrong with it, I can remove the Battery on my IIs for 10 mins if need be without a problem - Mike
Yes the Backup Battery is at 100%
It loses everything as soon as I take the battery out, I can put the battery straight back on, start the phone and OS setup begins.
When you say selected "off". Do you mean quickly pushing the power button once.
I have done this and still it loses everything.
Looking forward to your response.
Jonnycash!
All I can sugest are two options
1, Return the phone as it is clearly faulty, demand O2 repair the unit or try for an Exec as a replacement as re-compense, you might get this easily as they are no longer offering the IIs.
2, install something like Sprite back-up and configure the back-up to re-install everthing hardly ideal, and this is not what I would do.
Mike
Yes, I have just got it back from being "repaired". they said that they replaced the circuit board but it still does it.
I will send it back as suggested and try get a new one.
Thanks
Jonnycash
After taking out the battery, try not to push the tab(the one you pull back and the battery pops up) that holds the battery back into place until you re-insert the battery.

Sounds like a duff backup battery to me ( see pic), changing the mainboard would seem a sledgehammer to crack a nut. I have had this with blueangels after re-assembly, even with the backupstatus at 100%. I leave on a cradle charging overnight then do a hard reset - seems to work for me.
Richard
i have that problem as well before. but maybe this will help you a bit.
because i always do it removing the battery when changing my sim card. how i wish they would put the sim card away from the battery. ( calling the attention of the engineers for future references).
i started on the permanent save check mostly on contacts and appointments (I needed them all the time) (start>settings>system>permanent save). then i usually turn on the flight mode then turn off the pda from the power button.
thats the time i take the battery off and either to swap the sim card of the battery. then it automatically go to soft reset when the battery is back you will notice that after the automatic soft reset, there will be a small window showing appointments and contacts restoring.
i hope this will help.
I've had this, once. I've heard that this is a bug of that little black thingey that holds the battery, because it supposed to switch between backup battery and normal battery. Too bad sometimes it does not do this at all...
finally this happened to me to today. I by mistake took the battery out and when I put it there again, it hard resetted itself. Many of my notes were stored in main memory, which I had taken from my teacher just 30 mins ago

It happened to me again few days ago, under 2003SE (I had to downgrade for something). One thing i love in WM5 that I don't have to worry about this.
It has happened to me many times as well as I am always changing batteries. As somone mentioned above it seems to be a bug with the battery holder (the little black tab you clisk to hold the battery in.) I just keep my contacts backed up each time I add a new one. as for the applications they can usually waite till I restore them.

Eeerrrr. how about ' replace the battery' - they are standard cells...
Richard
Mabey its not clear what seems to be happening here
When you drop the unit and /or when you open the little black clip that holds the battery in place. Somtimes the phone looses all stored information and goes to hard reset. There seems to be 2 bugs in action here.
1) The batterys seem to get into a strange state where they dont work properly. (I have found that putting the battery into the rear slot of the charger reconditions it to fix this problem.)
2) Some units seem to have a bug with the battery latch when you open the latch accidently or somtimes even just when changing the battery intentionaly it seems not to switch to back up battery corectly. My theory is that there is a dead zone in the latch that does not make the correct transfer if it isn't fully engaged in either direction. It is a really poorly devised way to handle battery changes but hey its too late for them to redesign it. I can not say how many ppl have this issue or if it is everyone or just some people but I do know this is the case on mines and many of the forums I've read.
Solutions:
1) Back up your unit whenever you add data to it. you can just do a contact list back up which only takes 1 min for me and my sx66 has over 2k contacts. Do full back up once a week that should cover your apps and data.
2) Keep your battery reconditioned at least once a week use the rear charging slot for the battery. If you only have one battery this is not an option so I suggeest if you are going to keep your sx66 for any length of time buy a spare battery.
3) Recently I have begun using a small peice of duck tape to secure my battery latch. It is a pain in the rear but I have droped my unit once in this configuration and the battery and latch stayed in place.
Additionaly:
To make restores easier you can include some of your favorite applications in your ext roms. Just snoop around in the forums and you will see directions for manipulating ext rom.
Also look into changing the directorys where you store information. IE your mem card and the onboard storage directory seem to never get nuked unless it is done by the user.
Anything short of the above listed or replacing the hardware is not viable, because these are HARDWARE bugs. Version 5 avoids this issue because it does not hard reset your data like all previous versions of ppc. However the hard ware issue is still there it just doesnt effect you. But if you upgrade your rom be carefull because you are trading the bugs you know for the ones you don't know...lol
thanks for advice ........
dont worry richard am shifting to o2 exec

My battery doesn't last a day, and when it does run out everything gets wiped.
Is there anything that can be done about this? I install things to an external card but it is still a problem.
Seems a shame. Makes the whole thing useless to me, yet the device can almost do everything I need.
I can't even fix it into my car because that would either drain the car battery or it will run out of power itself.
Is your "beam" disabled? That can drain the battery very quickly.

If your running the original release rom , check to see if your provider released any newer versions. Orange, O2 , and T-mobile all released newer roms that improoved both battery life and bluetooth stability. Also as suggested above, turn off anything your not using directly and turn them on as you need them then back off when your done. Ie: Bluetooth , Ir beam, Wireless. as all are power hungry. Also there are alrger capacity batteries for the BA 3rd party. Another consideration is to keep a watch maybe with a battery meter, PLENTY of frebies out there just google search pocket PC freeware. and watch the internal battery as the ONLY reason you would loose everything when your external battery went flat is if the internal battery got drained or was faulty. as it retains the info while you change batteries or till you can put it on charge and usually the BA will refuse to stay on if it's low.
Another thought just occured too. SPB backup or similar and tell it to Backup the WHOLE thing to your storage card internally if it's not full OR preferrably and SD card if you loose things while your out you can literally restore the BA from the storage card as the backup file is an executable and will fully restore your BA and all it's installed programs kinda like Norton Ghost does for a PC.
It's commercial software but works really good.
Hi all. My first post...
So, here the point. I have an Universal, i think one of the first in commerce at least in Italy (well, i've buyed it.. oh.. 2 years ago, more or less).
Now, it had some problems: slow in some moments, bad call sygnal and sound quality. Nothing that a good Windows mobile 6.0 ROM cannot resolve!.
But in last 6 months, something going wrong: the phone is unstable, when i wire it at the charge, sometimes it don't start quickly to charge.. the red light don't appear and the battery don't be recharged.
Also, even with full charged battery, when i launch TomTom, after few seconds it reset, as all battery energy was quickly drained.
The combination of both events is funny: when i'm in car, and i want to use the tomtom, i have to collegate the Universal to car charger, but the universal have to auto-reset itself before starting to use energy from car.
Well, in my opinion this is a battery issue, and in yours? It can be also an hardware problem?
And, if it is a battery problem, i think it can be resolved substituting the actual battery. Can you suggest me an idea for an efficient but economical new one?
Thanks all.

Hi all
I have a problem with my blue angel - when i disconnect the main battery (even for 1 second) it hard resets. It's strange because in the settings->Power the backup battery shows as fully charged.
So what should i do? Is it a faulty backup battery or what? And if it is how can I replace it?
Thanks for your answers!
I'm having exactly the same problem and getting sick of my blue angel, i use it for my sat nav and it's annoying to lose all s/w and settings

Yes it is possible to replace backup battery as I had to change mine from my old broken xda iis < it was a little tricky job to remove the cap which holds the battery in its place securely, once you release the cap change the battery ( make sure you insert the new battery with correct polarity) and re insert the cap .
Takes 10 minutes thats only if you can release the cap without damaging any bits on the board. Just take your time dureing this process.

Where is the backup battery located on an SX66 BA? Where can one get one without spending a lot?

Backup Battery
OK. I finally found some pictures of the HTC Blue Angel completely disassembled. Go here:
http://www.land-of-kain.de/ppc/mda3/disassembly/
It shows something that looks like a battery with a piece of silver tape. I assume this is the backup battery.
I am running a fantastic version of WM6.1 that is extremely stable and fast.
I've increased the memory available to 60MB (see the BA Wiki's upgrading to WM5 instructions). While WM6.1 does store your contacts and other info in non-volatile memory (i.e., it won't be erased if you battery goes dead), there are some passwords for internet settings, etc. that are not saved. So if my battery falls off (mine always does), I often have to add the password to connect to my carrier and I have to re-enter my password for the my push email. I believe I would not have to enter either if the backup battery was working. So I'm trying to figure out how to do it.
I found some of the backup batteries for $5.00 but one has to make a $35 minimum purchase. I'm still probably going to do it.
you can buy them from most shops - just make sure you buy the right type -

I've opened my i-Mate PDA2K and the battery turns out to be an LR55 (aka AG8), judging by the dimensions (11x2mm).
The trickiest part about getting access to the battery was the battery cap. It twists in place but that doesn't do anything. I had to pry it open using a small knife as a lever against the component to the right of the, but that seems to have unglued the whole battery+cap ensemble from the PCB. I have no idea if the device will still work after I replace the battery.

Looking at your photos it seems you have took aout all the pieces.
If you see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501989&page=11 you'll realize there are two pieces: the cap with three labels and the "small saucepan" where the batt properly is. And that should remain attached (soldered) at the mainboard. So, perhaps you have unsoldered something you shouldn't.
And the battery is the V18HRT, also known as V20HR ("V" because is Varta company). I bought one through ebay.
Good luck
Sigh. This is also my problem as my old Xda2s and HP iPaq both require internal battery replacement - Varta V18HRT. Is there a substitute for this considering its quite hard to find this Varta battery? And if one knows, where does one find this Varta battery in Manila.
Use a Varta V20HR to replace V18HR backup battery

I know this is an OLD thread, but I thought I would post regardless.
There is a suitable and AVAILABLE Varta NiMH button cell for our HTC Blue Angel smartphones. The Varta V20HR is a slightly higher capacity battery (20ma vs 18ma), same diameter and only super slightly thinner (2.25mm vs 2.3mm). The small difference in height should NOT make a difference as the backup battery cell holder is a spring tension design. I have order a couple of these (under $5 each) and will be undertaking the replacement once my order arrives.
Wow
I have found out that looks like the MBU20 also replaces the V20HR so it can be another option. I am going to try that one as I am in Europe and it seems all the V20HR available are in the US. It has a Nominal capacity of 20 mAh.
Here is a link for the MBU20 saying it replaces the V20HR: http://www.master-instruments.com.au/products/59150/MBU20.html
It has same measurements as the original V18HRT as you can see in the datasheet from Varta: http://www.varta-microbattery.com/applications/mb_data/documents/data_sheets/DS55802.pdf
And those MBU20 are quite cheap in Europe. I will post here an update. I still have my original Blue Angel going strong and 5 more as backups that I am working on making them nice again. I am glad I took them out of the drawer
Hi
My Z1C is 2,5 years old. I had a custom rom with locked bootloader. About a month ago it started to drop the battery capacity very fast. Today I wanted to speed up the drain and it took 8 minutes of GTA:SA to drop the battery from 65% to 0%. It was dropping slowly from 65% to 50%, then fast to 38% and it shut off at 38%. Then it has completely no power, when I tried to power it on only red led blinks. In normal usage it can drop from 50% to 0% in a half of hour, even when I just check the time.
Xperia Companion repair didn't solve the problem.
Reflash the custom rom and check if this dont work then battery damaged u need to buy new one. Coz battery after 2years of use loses its capacity.
I reflashed it and didn't work. Now I'm using stock rom flashed by Xperia Companion for a week and it also didn't solve the problem. AccuBattery shows that the estimated battery capacity is just 756mAh after a 0-100% charging. I think I will try replacing the battery, hope it will solve the problem, otherwise I will have to throw a fully working and still almost as new looking phone 0_o
I too had Same problem just like yours... Replacing With New battery helped me. But make sure battery is Genuine.
Now I see that the plastic frame is deformed because the the battery has grown up a bit. I can easily put my nail between this plastic frame and the aluminium frame ;d
So I need to buy a new battery, plastic frame, back cover, USB cover, bottom speaker cover and a back protector film. I hope it's worth it.
If the back cover and the other things you mentioned are not damaged you shouldn't buy them.
I had the same problem, buy a new battery and a back cover sticker, with 15€ you will revive your z1c
Notice also that the phone is old, buying things worth 50€ is not a good deal
I bought it all for about 19€. A back cover with a sticker was same price as a sticker only so I bought it
Hey everybody,
I´m new here but read some very heplful post before. So now I have a real issue with my device, same like you.
My Z1c turns off when 50% of battery is used. It mean I can use my phone from 100% to 50% and then it drops to 0% or from 65% to 15% and then 0%...
I read the linked articel from androidpit.com here on xda about battery calibration and I wanted to ty it soon. I relly hope that will fix my problem...
But I´ve noticed something different too.
I dont know if you have the same issue or not but maybe some of you can help me.
I´ve noticed that when I open file commander app and tap on internal storage there are no folders... it says it´s emtpy, no foldes nor files, that´s a little bit weired I think.
And seconde thing I´ve noticed.
When I look up the storage usage in settings, android is calculating App, pictures, audio, downloads, cache data and also misc. but when its finished the misc. section isn´t there anymore I wonder if its normal or not.
In my opinion it´s not usual that the misc. section disappears.
I hope someone can help me with my issues and give me some advice to fix them.
Thanks for your help and I apologize for my bad english...

Hi
I tried one full discharge and then a full charge when the device was powered off and it didn't work. I bought the parts from aliexpress and a local shopping website so I will get them all in a month, then I will replace them, do some tests and post the results here.
About the files, you can try another file manager or clear file commander's data. I use the MK Explorer.
Next question, you just don't have any misc files, but the system has to search them so it appears at the beginnging. If you remove all files from the download folder, it will disappear too
I calibrated the battery and it shuts off at 0% properly, but its capacity is still 700mAh
The battery I bought turned out to be 14W10, so it's older than the original one... And it is complete garbage with 100mAh capacity (power off at 95%, lol).
I need another one.
Is it possible to get a genuine battery produced in 2015+?
I found these 17W, are they fake?

It is 2500mAh, I don't want my phone to explode
This is only the battery capacity I think. Yes, I was wondering also because the original has 2300. But for me it is working now.
Hi again,
I bought a new battery, maybe it's genuine, maybe not, I'll never be sure. It looks legit anyway. It came without NFC sticker and it was produced in the half of this year. It is running well from the beginning, it took me almost two hours of playing GTA:SA on max settings with 100% brightness and GPS turned on to drop the factory loaded 43% The first result of time with regular usage is shown in the screenshot (stock rom):
AccuBattery stats
Battery usage
Looks good Hope my Z1C would work fine for another year or two

So your mobile got a second life.
Downgrading to a 4.4.4 Cyanogen Rom cured this for me permanently. Still I am trying to find a 5.x or better Rom which has no battery issues...

My phone now needs definitely a new battery.

You don't need to reflash the ROM

It is still working for me. I also bought the following. Especially the toolkit really helps:
tools: https://www.amazon.de/wortek-Univer...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=WFD1G0EEM8P9XZS014SX
glue: https://www.amazon.de/Dichtung-Akku...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=WFD1G0EEM8P9XZS014SX
You do not need to flash anything again. If you use NFC, you need to add the antenna on the new battery. I am not using it and I will never do, so I just kept it on the old battery.
