Hi all
I have a problem with my blue angel - when i disconnect the main battery (even for 1 second) it hard resets. It's strange because in the settings->Power the backup battery shows as fully charged.
So what should i do? Is it a faulty backup battery or what? And if it is how can I replace it?
Thanks for your answers!
I'm having exactly the same problem and getting sick of my blue angel, i use it for my sat nav and it's annoying to lose all s/w and settings
can anyone help??

I have exactly that problem and i am gonna slowly have to take care about it... Will write it down here if i succeed. Probably it wont go without opening the device and soldering...
well, upgrading to windows mobile 6 resolved this problem
but not for a long time

Two options
1. Upgrare to w5 or w6 to advoid data lost when battery got trouble.
2. Use backup, such as spb back up and shceduled (everyday) backup, then you never lost your data and sw
Yes it is possible to replace backup battery as I had to change mine from my old broken xda iis < it was a little tricky job to remove the cap which holds the battery in its place securely, once you release the cap change the battery ( make sure you insert the new battery with correct polarity) and re insert the cap .
Takes 10 minutes thats only if you can release the cap without damaging any bits on the board. Just take your time dureing this process.

Where is the backup battery located on an SX66 BA? Where can one get one without spending a lot?
Thanks in advance.
Backup Battery
OK. I finally found some pictures of the HTC Blue Angel completely disassembled. Go here:
http://www.land-of-kain.de/ppc/mda3/disassembly/
It shows something that looks like a battery with a piece of silver tape. I assume this is the backup battery.
I am running a fantastic version of WM6.1 that is extremely stable and fast.
I've increased the memory available to 60MB (see the BA Wiki's upgrading to WM5 instructions). While WM6.1 does store your contacts and other info in non-volatile memory (i.e., it won't be erased if you battery goes dead), there are some passwords for internet settings, etc. that are not saved. So if my battery falls off (mine always does), I often have to add the password to connect to my carrier and I have to re-enter my password for the my push email. I believe I would not have to enter either if the backup battery was working. So I'm trying to figure out how to do it.
I found some of the backup batteries for $5.00 but one has to make a $35 minimum purchase. I'm still probably going to do it.
you can buy them from most shops - just make sure you buy the right type -

The Batter in the Blue Angel is a LR55 / AG8

I've opened my i-Mate PDA2K and the battery turns out to be an LR55 (aka AG8), judging by the dimensions (11x2mm).
The trickiest part about getting access to the battery was the battery cap. It twists in place but that doesn't do anything. I had to pry it open using a small knife as a lever against the component to the right of the, but that seems to have unglued the whole battery+cap ensemble from the PCB. I have no idea if the device will still work after I replace the battery.

Looking at your photos it seems you have took aout all the pieces.
If you see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501989&page=11 you'll realize there are two pieces: the cap with three labels and the "small saucepan" where the batt properly is. And that should remain attached (soldered) at the mainboard. So, perhaps you have unsoldered something you shouldn't.
And the battery is the V18HRT, also known as V20HR ("V" because is Varta company). I bought one through ebay.
Good luck
Sigh. This is also my problem as my old Xda2s and HP iPaq both require internal battery replacement - Varta V18HRT. Is there a substitute for this considering its quite hard to find this Varta battery? And if one knows, where does one find this Varta battery in Manila.
Use a Varta V20HR to replace V18HR backup battery

I know this is an OLD thread, but I thought I would post regardless.
There is a suitable and AVAILABLE Varta NiMH button cell for our HTC Blue Angel smartphones. The Varta V20HR is a slightly higher capacity battery (20ma vs 18ma), same diameter and only super slightly thinner (2.25mm vs 2.3mm). The small difference in height should NOT make a difference as the backup battery cell holder is a spring tension design. I have order a couple of these (under $5 each) and will be undertaking the replacement once my order arrives.
Wow
I have found out that looks like the MBU20 also replaces the V20HR so it can be another option. I am going to try that one as I am in Europe and it seems all the V20HR available are in the US. It has a Nominal capacity of 20 mAh.
Here is a link for the MBU20 saying it replaces the V20HR: http://www.master-instruments.com.au/products/59150/MBU20.html
It has same measurements as the original V18HRT as you can see in the datasheet from Varta: http://www.varta-microbattery.com/applications/mb_data/documents/data_sheets/DS55802.pdf
And those MBU20 are quite cheap in Europe. I will post here an update. I still have my original Blue Angel going strong and 5 more as backups that I am working on making them nice again. I am glad I took them out of the drawer

I've just acquired an O2 branded (from HK) XDA IIs, and when phone powers up I am notified that the backup battery is at 0%.
Leaving the phone charging in its cradle for 2 days and backup battery still shows as 0%.
Have done both soft and hard reset, as well as upgrading to latest radio stack and OS.
Am I now forced to do surgery on this unit and replace the internal backup battery?
Has anyone performed this process on this unit before?
Hints, part numbers etc
I appreciate all help and thank you in advance.
Anyone??
I heard that the backup battery charges from the main battery, try charging the main battery separately on the cradle to full, and then putting the phone+battery on the cradle for charging.
Thanks for the suggestion Sandy.
However, the problem persists.
I've even tried putting the phone on the cradle without the main battery to see if this would force a backup battery charge. The charging light stays red, and after a couple of hours, backup battery status still says 0% (so it's not a sensor issue), and if you remove main battery, it continues to be the same as a hardware reset.
On a positive note, xbackup seems to restore things quite well.
Can anyone else think of any good ideals?
The error message on boot-up emphasizes the problem
"To prevent possible data loss, replace or recharge your battery according to the owner's manual"
I find no such instructions in my owner's manual.
Maybe you can try to replace your backup battery with new one.
If anyone has instructions on how to replace a backup battery I'd be more than interested in trying it myself.
I am however under the impression that this involves 'opening' up the unit, using special tools and disassembly procedures, and I'd rather hope to follow someone else's instructions than bravely go where no man has gone before...
If only we had a service manual for these models...

"special tools" are Torx5 and Torx6
screwdrivers. "disassembly procedure"
is surprisingly simple, you only need to
be careful when removing the keyboard cable from the mainboard. I'll take the photos when my
replacement LCD will arrive.
CR2, it sounds to me like there may be some good news on the horizon. Do you have a time table as to when you expect to receive your replacement parts.
The young lady whom I purchased the unit from is more than willing to reverse the transaction, and I believe she should be held up as a role model of a good ebay seller.
If there is a chance that this unit is salvageable, I'd be more than willing to go through with the purchase if the repair can be made with my limited skills.
Let me know when you expect to receive your new LCD, or if you can provide any additional hints on the repair procedure. I guess if we knew the replacement battery part number I could start to source from local suppliers.
Anxiously awaiting a positive outcome to this situation.

Hi Guys,
Whenever I remove the battery from my XDA 2S I lose everything and have to set up the OS from scratch.
I have spoken to O2 and they have told me this is normal? But how can this be? It is the most stupid thing I have ever heard.
Please if someone could just tell me if their XDA 2S does this I would be more than grateful!
Thanks in advance.

Go to settings/ Power icon and check the status of both the Main Battery and the backup Battery, the first could be at any charge % the backup Battery should be at 100%, this is used to hold the data on the phone for a short duration, sim card swap or battery swap with the machine selected OFF first. If its loosing data then there is something wrong with it, I can remove the Battery on my IIs for 10 mins if need be without a problem - Mike
Yes the Backup Battery is at 100%
It loses everything as soon as I take the battery out, I can put the battery straight back on, start the phone and OS setup begins.
When you say selected "off". Do you mean quickly pushing the power button once.
I have done this and still it loses everything.
Looking forward to your response.
Jonnycash!
All I can sugest are two options
1, Return the phone as it is clearly faulty, demand O2 repair the unit or try for an Exec as a replacement as re-compense, you might get this easily as they are no longer offering the IIs.
2, install something like Sprite back-up and configure the back-up to re-install everthing hardly ideal, and this is not what I would do.
Mike
Yes, I have just got it back from being "repaired". they said that they replaced the circuit board but it still does it.
I will send it back as suggested and try get a new one.
Thanks
Jonnycash
After taking out the battery, try not to push the tab(the one you pull back and the battery pops up) that holds the battery back into place until you re-insert the battery.

Sounds like a duff backup battery to me ( see pic), changing the mainboard would seem a sledgehammer to crack a nut. I have had this with blueangels after re-assembly, even with the backupstatus at 100%. I leave on a cradle charging overnight then do a hard reset - seems to work for me.
Richard
i have that problem as well before. but maybe this will help you a bit.
because i always do it removing the battery when changing my sim card. how i wish they would put the sim card away from the battery. ( calling the attention of the engineers for future references).
i started on the permanent save check mostly on contacts and appointments (I needed them all the time) (start>settings>system>permanent save). then i usually turn on the flight mode then turn off the pda from the power button.
thats the time i take the battery off and either to swap the sim card of the battery. then it automatically go to soft reset when the battery is back you will notice that after the automatic soft reset, there will be a small window showing appointments and contacts restoring.
i hope this will help.
I've had this, once. I've heard that this is a bug of that little black thingey that holds the battery, because it supposed to switch between backup battery and normal battery. Too bad sometimes it does not do this at all...
finally this happened to me to today. I by mistake took the battery out and when I put it there again, it hard resetted itself. Many of my notes were stored in main memory, which I had taken from my teacher just 30 mins ago

It happened to me again few days ago, under 2003SE (I had to downgrade for something). One thing i love in WM5 that I don't have to worry about this.
It has happened to me many times as well as I am always changing batteries. As somone mentioned above it seems to be a bug with the battery holder (the little black tab you clisk to hold the battery in.) I just keep my contacts backed up each time I add a new one. as for the applications they can usually waite till I restore them.

Richard
Mabey its not clear what seems to be happening here
When you drop the unit and /or when you open the little black clip that holds the battery in place. Somtimes the phone looses all stored information and goes to hard reset. There seems to be 2 bugs in action here.
1) The batterys seem to get into a strange state where they dont work properly. (I have found that putting the battery into the rear slot of the charger reconditions it to fix this problem.)
2) Some units seem to have a bug with the battery latch when you open the latch accidently or somtimes even just when changing the battery intentionaly it seems not to switch to back up battery corectly. My theory is that there is a dead zone in the latch that does not make the correct transfer if it isn't fully engaged in either direction. It is a really poorly devised way to handle battery changes but hey its too late for them to redesign it. I can not say how many ppl have this issue or if it is everyone or just some people but I do know this is the case on mines and many of the forums I've read.
Solutions:
1) Back up your unit whenever you add data to it. you can just do a contact list back up which only takes 1 min for me and my sx66 has over 2k contacts. Do full back up once a week that should cover your apps and data.
2) Keep your battery reconditioned at least once a week use the rear charging slot for the battery. If you only have one battery this is not an option so I suggeest if you are going to keep your sx66 for any length of time buy a spare battery.
3) Recently I have begun using a small peice of duck tape to secure my battery latch. It is a pain in the rear but I have droped my unit once in this configuration and the battery and latch stayed in place.
Additionaly:
To make restores easier you can include some of your favorite applications in your ext roms. Just snoop around in the forums and you will see directions for manipulating ext rom.
Also look into changing the directorys where you store information. IE your mem card and the onboard storage directory seem to never get nuked unless it is done by the user.
Anything short of the above listed or replacing the hardware is not viable, because these are HARDWARE bugs. Version 5 avoids this issue because it does not hard reset your data like all previous versions of ppc. However the hard ware issue is still there it just doesnt effect you. But if you upgrade your rom be carefull because you are trading the bugs you know for the ones you don't know...lol
thanks for advice ........
dont worry richard am shifting to o2 exec

Thought I would write a quick review of the extended battery I just bought.
Background
I was rather unhappy with my original battery as were most people! It only lasted me a day and as my job requires me to be out and about a lot, plus to call people often, I thought something more robust would be better. My solution = The Cameron Sino 2600mAH Battery!
Initial Impressions
The battery is twice the size of stock. The battery cover did not close on my phone. Total size isnt too bad. It nearly doubles the phone thickness, but when I come onto the testing section later this is a worthwhile sacrifice.
Cover Fit
The cover didnt fit so I decided to buy a 32gb micro sd card (which works fine), and to super glue the cover on. I figured that using a scalpel I could remove the back (I tested and it works fine) if ever required. Hopefully I wont need to access it ever, or until I upgrade in 18 months and decide to sell it.
Performance
After charging to 100%, running down to 0% 3 times, I have now had the phone on for 5 days and it's current charge level is 10%. As you can see this is awesome. My settings:
Helix Launcher
Wifi On about an hour a day
Light phone calls (around 5 hours)
Light texting - 20 odd a day
3g Off
GPS off
I imagine in real life conditions 3 days moderate use would be obtainable.
Conclusion
Overall I am very very happy with this battery. It really brings this phone into the "worthwhile for daily use" category (it should have been here originally ofcourse). Hopefully will be able to use the standard UI rather than Helix when 2.1 comes out. Damn app power leaks.
Rating: 4/5 (Battery door a poor fit)
Edit: Forgot to mention at £16.99 delivered (amazon.co.uk), you can hardly go wrong!!!
Could you post a pic of your phone now please?
Unfortunately my only camera is my phone...... sorry. Maybe someone else can!?
Wow! I assume you like your phone carrier since it is difficult now to remove the sim card.
Well my carrier (Three) used to be terrible. However they appear to have upgraded their cell towers and I now have full signal most places that my friends dont! So yeah I like my carrier!
Why dont you buy the extra thick covers that are all over ebay so that you dont have to glue anything?
Edit: My bad they arent on ebay, but there is a thread in the accessories forum, I'm sure of it.
theres a couple of posts and reviews in a thread on here already and myself and several others paid just £12.99 free postage from ebay
Yeah I rarely buy off ebay - had a lot of problems with sellers before (might just be my luck ). I saw the other reviews, and just wanted to do my own hehe.
any chance to get a pic of your phone? how it looks with the glued cover?
If i ma not wrong, that battery comes with a cover for X10 right? Are u saying that that cover that they provide does not fit properly?
Mine fits properly. You just have to force the sides of the cover into place and thats it. Battery life is much better than the oem one and has a very noticeable difference.
ordered one from http://www.megacapacity.com/26985.html . Lets see how it goes
Just updating this thread for potential cameron sino battery buyers. I got the package 4 days ago. I removed my stock battery, popped this battery in, used the back cover that was provided by them. The phone became almost twice the depth thanx to the battery.
Then the issues started. Even though the green light used to come on when connected to the mains, the phone never used to start. Initially i thought the charge is low, so left it overnight, but then the next morning i saw tht I still had the same issue. After fidgeting with it for sometime, i noticed that there is a 1(or 0.5) mm gap between the battery and contacts because of which the x10 did not start. I used a thin plastic sheet(amost like a sheet of paper) to hold the battery up against the contact and it worked fine. Right now the problem is that if i shake the phone a bit vigorously, it gets disconnected because of the shorter battery.
But i want to see how the battery lasts so am using it for now. It all boils down to the time i have to wait till next charge. If it really gives around 70% more time (as claimed by many in other forums) i will use it despite the bulkiness and the smaller battery issues. Thanx for reading!!!
so this comes with a case as well for £12.99?

Thanks for this info! I was having the same issue with this battery. I thought I was having a driver issue for extended batteries but after reading your post, I confirmed that it wasnt the case. Fixed the problem but with a different approach.
What I did was I soldered a small amount of lead onto the contacts on the battery (careful enough not to short the contacts) so that it would give better contact on pins of the x10.. I know the process seems a little bit drastic but it works! I can't make the phone shutdown even when I shook the hell out of this phone.

Hi there.
My Mother has a One V which she is really happy about. But recently she says that it has been draining the battery so fast. At first i didnt really believe it (you know old people and tech), and asked if she had charged it correctly. She then told me that the charging process was also quite strange.. She had plugged it in one night, and the phone displayed that it was charging.. Then 8 hours after, in the morning it had only charged 2% ! This doesnt happen all the time, but only some times.
Now she has given it to me and hope that i can fix it. At first im just going to factory reset it, even though i dont think that is the problem. But i have noticed that what she is telling me is true to some extend. I have had the phone sitting on the table all night. No simcard and no nothing.. It had only used about 5%, but as soon as i began using it, to take backup and prepare for the reset oh boy.. It uses 1% in merely seconds! Approx 26 seconds per 1%!
I think this is rather strange and im unsure if the battery is the problem.. Do you guys have any ideas ?
Oh and i have to say that the phone is running newest stock software. It has never been rooted or anything like that.
Well, the charger port is probably bad. My first htc one m8 and my droid incredible 2 both have weak ports on them from the factory. Send it in for warranty and say nothing < about a possible bad charging port if it still has warranty. And, if nothing Less try a brand new charger, and see if that one works and if it's loose when it's plugged in. If it Is loose with new charger it's a bad charger port.
Yeah this confuses me as well. It happens once every few months. The battery drains really fast and charging is extremely slow. The first time this happened my One V dropped from 100% to 27% in 20 minutes! And just like it randomly happens it randomly goes; battery consumption goes back to normal after a day or two.
A possible reason is the charger and USB cable that is used. My cable is worn out so that might be why charging is slow but it doesn't explain why the battery drains so fast even when the phone is disconnected from the charger. So the only reasonable explanation would be some hardware problems in the battery pack.
But this is all just me guessing... I don't know for sure.

It could be the charger port. I tried cleansing it with a toothpick (heard dust could be the problem), but the problem persists

The problem here is that it happens every second time or so the phone is charged at the moment. But i have bought a new battery and will try and change it. Ill write here how it goes and if there is a improvement, so that you know where the problem relies if you are thinking about doing the same.
Same problem here. Every few months the battery drops from > 50% to 2% or so. This happens within some minutes and my phone gets really hot.
But normaly I use it with a 2 amp charger and I think this happens more often if I use chargers with 1 amp.
Edit: This happened for me with every rom I used.
I changed the battery two days ago, and i can already feel a huge improvement.. 8 hours ago i took it out from the charger. Data and Bluetooth has been on all day. Been browsing a little, and sent som SMS and stuff like that.. 65% now.
The conclusion must be that in my case at least, it was a battery hardware fault.

Some recommendations: Get your self a repair tool kit before you start. Everything has been so much easier for me after i got that. It is all the money worth it . This is what i got http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261399617620?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT <- They ship worldwide.
The battery i brought : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321303229844?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
First i took the plate off at the bottom of the phone (the one where there behind is sim card and sd card). Unscrewed all six screws. Once done you can take all the plastic off the large plastic part (the one below the simcard and sd card when inserted, and covering everything behind the outer cover). This part is also taped/glued, but should not be a problem to get off.
After you have taken that off, use a pry tool to pry the plate open around the camera lens and flash (beware that this plate is also taped together. Unscrew the last screw behind.
Now comes the tricky part. You need another more solid pry tool to pry the lcd/board out from the front. Use the pry tool in between the screen and the cover of the phone, and all the way around. The LCD and board needs to come out from the phones front.
After that the battery becomes visible. There is nothing special to getting the plug out for it as far as i can remember and should just be pulled towards the battery to get it out. Battery is glue to the inside of the phone, but using the solid pry tool you should be able to get it out. If you order the battery i linked to, it comes with new 3M tape.
Heres a video showing it pretty good i think:

Aah so it was the battery pack after all!! Interesting to know.
Glad it worked out for you and thanks for the battery replacement links.
My One V is retired but since the battery is cheap I will buy one and replace it just in case I ever need the phone as backup.
I saw this on Chinese forum and it is weird that nobody mention it here
For those battery that cause boot looping problem there's a way to fix it.
First, remove the battery cap
You'll see the metal in the red circle was connected by a conductive glue something like that

(well the forum says I'm new so I can't post link, it will be thankful if there's anyone who can paste this on the reply)
The problem causing looping was because it gets old can the resistance goes up and so affect the battery when it needs to drain lot of power.
Second, use knife or what everto separate the metal plate on the ic board and battery(cut the conductive glue), then remove the conductive glue on both side of the metal plate(ic board and batter) like the picture shown

(Same reason as above)
Three, solder them together with soldering iron and replace the battery cover back, done.
Now you saved a battery.
Well, I can't find a button for me to attach the photo I took for explanation....
its work
I tried this method before see this post.
but I connected the battery's - directly with battery.
now I follow this method and it's work
thanks
I just ordered a new battery from LG for $15.

Those batteries are still working well, just the glue part gets old and not functioning well.
Did this fix a few days ago, but i soldered the metal to the upper contact point instead of the lower one. Works good since then. I also bought a new battery that is migth be faulty (always showing 25.0-25.8 c° only, does somebody know why?)

I bought some unofficial manufactured G2 battery and found it has same phenomenon as yours.
I think it's just because of diffreent ic in the battery.

My d855 was with two batteries with this problem, I did what is taught in the tutorial and both work perfectly now. I would like to know just what are the risks in the future.
Meanwhile I'm using two new batteries after the procedure.
I have few questions. What kind of wire did you use to jump solder the contacts, also how did you close the cover?
