anyone dropped ba...repaired by o2? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

hey all,
dropped my ba on the road and now, apart from a dent, i have a problem in that intermittently the speaker decides not to work. which can be annoying when i use it for my alarm clock for work
will o2 repair it for free? has anyone been in this same position? got my ba in july 05
cheers
aslan

probably depends on whether the speaker has been working fine for the last few months since u dropped it ;-)

i have a BA on O2 and i droped it and cracked the screen, i have the gold insurance which is £5 a month, and they delivered a new one to my work next day, i did have to pay £25 excess though

I dropped my O2 at Heathrow airport this summer.. Result... A broken screen :-(
I took it to an O2 store (in Aberdeen), and told them to fix it, and tighten the keyboard also.
After some time (I think one month) I got it back, but they did not tighten the keyboard and I did not accept it. I told them to return it to O2, and to fix the keyboard!
Two days later the O2 store called, and told me that they had a brand new O2 XDA2s for me ... for free

nice!
did u have insurance and what did u say about how it broke...did u just say u dropped it?
thinking to make up a story, just need to know which one to make up

No I did not have an insurance for it (I guess I could have used my travel insurance if needed)
O2 told me that it was going to cost me about £170.
As a new XDA2s is more than £170, I told them to fix it.
When the phone got back I was ready to pay £170, but as the keyboard was still not fixed I did not, and told them to send it back and fix it.
After they gave me the new XDA2s, I was again ready to pay the £170, but then the told me that there was no need for it
Not sure if it was a fu*k up, or good O2 service

Being screwed with Mda III

I've posted it before and posting it again.. The screen on my MDA III cracked somehow.. anyway not finding any replacement parts anywhere i called t-mobile (uk) and they had no clue what to do.. after i called a few times they gave me a number.. (HTC Europe).
After sending my phone in for "inspection" (note: i specified BT problems, screen hissing noise and mic problems aswell) i was told i had to pay for a new screen.
After sending them a cheque of £105.75 (90 + vat) or about 195 US dollars, I was told i had to wait for some time for it to clear..
That took 2 weeks. When it got cleared they told me "its being repaired.. it should be tested tomorrow and after is final testing you'll get it back". This was on a monday.. "u should have it by wednesday".. I called again on tuesday to check.. "u should have it by the end of the week.." then "early next week". this went on for 2 weeks!
Called up again today (monday) ..i was told that the motherboard aint compatible with the screen and they have to replace it. We usually fix orange ones.. not t-mobile he said!!!!?!?!?! what the hell? parts are different? We'll change it tomorrow and u should have it by wednesday...
(year right)
Anyway..
So they'll be changing the motherboard (unless its a cheap excuse to buy some time) to change the screen. The IMEI should be different then shouldnt it?
I've been without my phone now for 5 weeks and im utterly pissed off.
The only thing i hope is when (EVENTUALLY) i'll get my phone back, it will have a fixed microphone so ppl can hear me.. latest rom on (which t-mobile is doing nothing about) BT that works and a screen that doesnt hiss when on (even better if it aint got yellow hue). If its UNLOCKED it would ease off the anger!
Im asking everyone to place their bets, that in about a month when im estimating to get my phone back that nothing will be changed. They told me the whole LCD will be changed AND the motherboard.
Options are :
1. Only the touchscreen is changed
2. The whole touchscreen and lcd is changed
3. LCD and Mobo are changed
4. 3 with software updates and patches
5. 4 and unlocked
6. Send me another one with all the original problems (with a softer keyboard with a huge gap)
7. Send me my money back saying we cant fix it
Place your bets now
Come on Jimp!!! Where's the official odds for these bets
Anyway, I'll stick £20 GBP on secret option...
2a. - LCD/touch screen changed with updates but original m/board (sorry, can't help thinking they're fobbing you off to get more time and save on warranty shipping costs)
Then I want £30 GBP on another secret option...
4a. - 3 with Release ROM and bluetooth patch, badged as "NEW" ROM, neither of which fix any of your previous issues.
Let me know how you get on.
Dom
as expected..
still nothing as they are giving lame excuses again to delay.
couple more days.. and if they wont do anything im complaining to my phone company.
I was assured today that my phone will b fixed tomorrow definetely and i should have it by friday.. Even tho i heard that loads of times im quite hopeful..
I also asked if the whole lcd will be changed and the mobo and they said yes... the touchscreen AND the lcd is one unit and we will replace it along with the mobo.
I told him if the serial number would change since the mobo is different , he said the serial will stay the same but the IMEI will change...
Hmm. I thought the SN was calculated with the IMEI and vice versa. Oh well ... We shall wait and see
So...... two questions now
The first one is:
What was the outcome of this bet
The second:
I have the same problem with my 9090. Can you please give me the telephone number of HTC Europe?
Kind regards,
-Bastian
outcome
The outcome was after waiting for 2 months(!!!!) i was told i would be getting my phone back with a new screen and a new motherboard.. Thats their lame way of saying heres a new phone and we struggled fixing it..
They gave me a new phone(after i paid 110 quid uk) with a fixed screen.. but with a loose keyboard.

O2 XDA cracked LCD
Hi jimp,
Man, what a pain!
Thanks for posting HTC Europe's address, would you know if they have an e-mail address.
I'm located in California and have the same problem with my O2 XDA IIs and have had no luck with trying to find a replacement LCD.
Also, how did you track your device, did the give you an RMA prior to sending in your unit?
Thanks

Check out PocketPC Techs in southern California; they might do LCD replacements.
they gave me an rma ye..
The address is only for EU customers.
HTC must have a US support.
Better off going with pocket pc tech for screen replacement tho
Thanks for the info jimp.
Unfortunatelly there is no HTC support in the US that I have found. I'm also trying to work with PocketPC techs but they are not sure that they have the correct LCD for the O2 XDA IIs. They and another company PDASmart.com need an LCD part number to verify. Apparently, according to them, HTC changed the LCD model in their later productions.
Thanks again.
This sounds totally wild.
I can not belive that who ever import the BA to your country, does not have several repair shops around the country.
There are many Phone/PDA repair shops around, and importers normally have agrements with them.
I had mine fixed here in Norway.
Just drove in and delivered it, and without a receipt. (They just check the IMEI)
Drove back 3 days later, yep all done and ready.
It's not just wild, It sucks!!! :x
If I can not fix my XDA, it's going to suck even more. Worse is that I really liked the device. It was perfect for my work and play (as most of you that have them know), but I'm not sure that I would buy another one because of the lack of support and the cost.
The XDA IIs is not exported to the US via normal channels so there is NO support for it. There are a some service providers that have the Himalaya , but not the Blue Angel (yet anyway) availabel to US consumers. After weeks of contacting O2 in Europe and Asia to purchase one they pretty much told me to go away (in a very poplite manner that is). So I bought a used one (like new condition) from a private party on e-bay and he faxed me his original receipt from the vendor he bough it from in December. When I contacted the vendor, they did not even want to deal with me becasue I was not the original owner.

Grrr I droped my O2 XDA2s.. Screen broken :-(

Today I droped my XDA2s, and now the sreen is broken (big black/white spot on it). There is no way of using it this way anymore.
The other problem is that I just (today) started my holliday in Scotland, and I really need the phone fixed a.s.a.p.
Anyone here who knows a place where I can get it fixed? (I'm near Aberdeen)
Thank you for any help!
don't trust O2
I did the same paid £160 to O2 to get it fixed and they had it for 2 months before saying they couldnt get the parts and giving me a new one.

Hmmm wait 2 months.. Not sure if thats what I want to hear.
The £160 is not a problem (I think) as my travel insurance will cover it
Is there not some service point for XDA2's/Qtek9090/Blue Angel's in Scotland?
cant you just take it to an o2 shop??? 8)

help what can i do
no insurance with o2 at all
helppp
i live in west london if that helps ...shops etc.
You had best take out some insurance, then in about a month say you dropped it?
The best solution is: You can send it off to ppctechs: http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main.asp?unit=HTC_Artemis-627&area=accessories-writeshield%AE+crystal
2nd best: You can replace it yourself with a kit: http://cgi.ebay.com/OEM-LCD-Screen-...1241845QQihZ016QQcategoryZ41343QQcmdZViewItem
erm..whaty insuracne company iwll allow me to do that ive had the orbit for over 5 months
secondly thanks but the site is uncelar of what i need to buy do i send the phone to them etc.
standard house insurance normally covers - if your on o2 then you cant take out insurance after the first 14 days - unlike orange where you can pay £60 emergency insurance out and claim immediately followed by £6/month thereafter. In my extensive experience of network insurances (Im a plasterer, alot of phones get broken / damaged) 02 insurance aint worth **** - may as well use home contents insurance.
ive not had too much of an issue with them, barring the £35 base fee... delivered to your door in 24 hrs...
ok too late for insuracne

Htc desire sad problem story

hello guys im new here . yesteday i finally bought my desire in canada from telus and i was in rush so i didnt bother looking the phone at store. so when i went home. the sealed was open and there was finger prints on it and i wanted to unlock it to rogers. and i went to 5 different unlocking place they couldnt do it and last guy told me that it might be a refurbished phone thats y it cant be unlock. and i call the place i bought from they said if there is any problem with it will switch it for u. im gonna fight to get a new desire i waited long for this day to come and it all went wrong for me i dont even know what to do. cuz at first i dont think cellphone places are aloud to sell some phone that is used by other people. cuz i dont know what they did with it and i dont feel comfortable with it. any1 any suggestion what to do?
Take it back, they are obligated by law to sell you a brand new unit unless they stated the goods were second hand.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
In the UK we have a contract cooling off period and we could return it even if there was no fault and for no reason. then we could simply buy from somewhere else. Surely there is something similar there or have you bought the phone out right.
No. I signed a 3 year term.
You have 2 weeks (10 business days) to return for any reason. If this was purchased in Canada and the contract was longer than 3(??) months you can get a refund without any questions. I worked at a gym when i was younger and if you purchased a 1 year membership you could cancel it within 2 weeks due to a federal law.
So what happened? You return it?

Alot of UK Phone Company's have a get out clause
In the Small Print on the Contract you sign, they have, if the Seal or the Sim Card has been broken and placed in the Phone you are obliged the contract and there for no longer have your 15 day cooling off period
I had this issue with one phone, and i spent months fighting,
I was able to cancle the contract in the end but that was because i made so many complains about my account and soo many changes where made on my account,
that there was a problem with my billing and the issue was not resolved within 14 days (In there small print)
And was there for in my right to cancel my contract and no pay and cancellation fees or remaining days on the contract
But Yes, It would seem that when that Simcard Seal is Broken or the Card is Activated, your stuck into that contract
hey i got my desire from telus as well on the day it launched. it was brand new so not an issue. i also got it unlocked from but not from those small booths in the mall, i got it from cellunlock. theres a 50% coupon too, if you need it. at first i was skeptical cause i didnt get the code right away but they updated their db, and now its all good, and im running it unlocked.
weird part was that the phone asked me to put in the unlock code more than once, for 2 different things. it worked using the same code.
also i have it rooted and using the leedroid rom 1.8b for now
Its quite possible that when they recieved it, some eager salesman (like myself) wanted to take a look at it and turned it on. I do that with all the new devices if I have not had a sneak peek at one by time launch day comes.
If you want, PM me and I will look up the date of first activation to confirm your unit in fact is new. Other than that, you can go into the store you purchased it at, say it keeps freezing, random reboots and that the battery life sucks and get them to exhange it under TELUS' 30 day DOA exchange program. But make sure its set up the way when you purchased it. You shouldnt get any hassles.
Hope it works out for ya!
i got the brand new 1 finally . i returned that 1 and unlock it . the fastest phone ive ever owned even faster than my bros iphone 4
Why are the unlock codes like 30-40 dollars? shouldn't it be like 15 dollars max?

Where did you buy this phone? It's very well possible (although should not be the case) that your phone got cracked during transport..... If that's the case then somehow it is not their fault... but this is a ****ty situation to be in to be honest.
what method of shipping did you use to send it to htc? was it their ups service? or did send it yourself?
at this point if htc don't back down i'd look to the shipping company for compensation - just hope it was insured transit
They did not come to pick it up theirself?
In Belgium they insist that they do the packaging themself. You just sign a paper that it is not damaged (if i remember correctly 5 aspects).
Anyway this is not the first time I hear you story. If you google it, then it has happened a lot.
Hope you get a new phone man
Update
They send UPS courier to pick up phone (was double wrapped in bubble foil and bubble envelope) HTC after I phoned them confirm that package arrive non damage but phone it self smashed!!!! so they raised complaint against UPS will see what gonna happened.
Cheers for support
Pedro
