Hello everyone
I bought an O2 XDA from a friend. Have unlocked it and now inserted my Orange SIM.
I can receive SMS and make calls but cannot connect to web or pick up my pop3 emails.
Is there a program i can download or how do i do it
Please help - its making me crazy!!!
Munders.
you just need to setup the grps in
settings->connections->connections
add a cell grps network
type in the access point of your network
type in the login and password if you network require this
and you have network
then you need to add pop3 under the inbox acount
with the incomming and outgoing servers you use
and the login and password you use
Someone wrote a whole guide on how to do this for the XDA II on Orange. If you search these forums I guess you'll find it. I think the author was Shademehr or something.
Thanks guys. I'll try that
I can access Wap now. Cannot however add a new POP3 account. The optioned is greyed out on my XDA. It only allows SMS or Activesync.
Any ideas?
what if you press accounts->New account
thats how i set mine up the reason that it's greyd out the place you are looking should be because it's not setup yet
in what section is the accounts option?
Thanks
New account is the thing you should run in the account menu

Dear friends please help.
I signed up for trial account (pro) at 4smartphone.net to get benefit of pushemail. Everythings was fine during the process and I downloaded setupfile at my jasjar (through sms) but afer running the file it always gives me following sms error
"system notification" - change of device settings is unsuccessful/
I am sure many of us are using this facility very nicely and I must be making some mistake.
Can any one help me or define the whole (step by step) process to setup pushemail from 4smartphone.net like.,
setting email accounts to server settings.
It would be once for all help for pushmail issues.
Regards
you dont need to do the sms installer bit of the install, push uses http to work not sms
ohh and enable it in the comms mgr

ACtually, how do I do that last bit? In comms manager, nothing happensif I press what I think is the Push email button....
You have to configure exchange in activesync in the pda or on the pc .
in your profile on the 4smartphone webpage, go to "Mobile Setup:Review and Upload your mobile setup"

Done it. It works!
I've set up mail forwarding from my belfast-biker.com domain to the 4smartphone one, it sync beautifully, BUT...!
It syncs lovely between OWA (I think that's it, the web-based Outlook thing) and the Exec, but there seems no link with my normal Outlook, and I'm sure there should be.
Also, when I receive emails, they go to my device, and my OWN, but not to my normal Outlook anymore, I'm sure it's coz I've failed to establish a link I should have done.... any help?
I think you want to configure your outlook on the destop :
I give you a copy of the mail I receive from technical support :
Thank you for using 4Smartphone.
Here is a step by step we found to be good:
http://www.petri.co.il/configure_outlook_2003_to_use_rpc_over_http.htm
Information specific to 4SmartPhone:
Profile Name = Your login ([email protected])
You need to check [x] Use Cached Exchange Mode
Microsoft Exchange Server = SNSHBEA107.4smartphone.snx (Instead of zeus)
User Name = your mail again(Instead of daniel)
RPCProxyServer = secure.4smartphone.net (instead of zeus.dpetri.local)
You need to check [x] Mutually authenticate the session when connecting with SSL
RPCProxyPrincipalName = msstd:secure.4smartphone.net
Your user login will be : the mail for your account
And your password is the one you provided at account creation
Please do not hesitate to contact us again if necessary.
Best regards,
Also, you must have outlook 2003 on your desktop - I initially made the mistake of thinking outlook XP was OK - it is not - 4smartphone offer outlook 2003 for free on their site
(PS sorry if this is a "granny to suck eggs" type post, but I made the mistake and know of at least one other who did the same thing.
I have had my TP2 for a few days now and i love it, except for the fact that I cannot send or receive email from my gmail account
I can access the internet fine, and use the youtube app fine, but whenever i try to send an email or hit send/receive i get this error message
"CANNOT CONNECT WITH CURRENT CONNECTIONS SETTINGS. TO CHANGE YOUR SETTINGS, TAP SETTINGS"
When i set up the email the only things i was required to supply were my email address and password....so i am assuming the problem lies with the way my handset is trying to access the gmail account, ie. trying to use wifi or something? (i dont have wifi, so i will only be using the "unlimited" interent provided with my t-mobile UK tariff)
has anyone else had this problem or do they know how to get around it as i have finally got myself a decent handset where i can (allegedly!) check my email on the move, but yet i somehow cant get it working?!!
Ihave tried both hard and soft resets to get this sorted but it just wont work and i feel like pulling my hair out!
n
I know it's not much consolation but it just worked for me...
I have a SIM free TP2 and UK T-Mobile Web'n'Walk.
Incoming mail server is imap.gmail.com
Account type is IMAP4
Username is my full gmail username
Outgoing mail server is smtp.gmail.com
outgoing server requires authentication is ticked
All this was set via automatic configuration.
Hope this helps,
Richard
This is what i have done to recieve and send Gmail trueout the standard email client on my Pro II.
First of all you have to enable imap at your gmail account which you can find under settings.
Then on your phone do the following settings.
- make an new account in your email client
- fill in your gmail adress
- fill in your name
- fill at incomming mail "imap.gmail" and account type "imap"
- fill in your account name (gmail adress) and password
- fill at outgoing mail server smtp.gmail.com
and those two checkboxes must be checked
- auto recieve and send is up to you
hope this will help you
ther's a known bug in windows mobile poutlook...
sometimes the autoconf for gmail doesn't work...(i had the same issue on my omnia)
you only need to enter the account details by hand..
to do that, in the first screen where your address is asked, enter [email protected]
leave it without the final m.
after that fill in manually all the account details, then when finished edit the account and put that m in the domain...
that should work...at least in my omnia was the only way to get gmail working...
I used this guide en it works perfectly

hi, thanks or all the replies, most appreciated.
however, i have now established that i can get my gmail account working - but only over wifi!?!? when the wireless router is turned off i get the same message as before, so there must be a setting or something that is telling my TP2 to look for a wireless connection when performing a send/receive, rather than using the "internet" (if thats the right term) that is included in my contract..AAAARGH...
i have had a look but cannot find any settings for this so i must be going mad?
can anyone shed any light on this for me before i go mad??!!

Disable proxyserver, don't have the place where you can find this. I have a dutch rom
I have a gmail imap connection on my HTC Touch that was working great but has failed to connect for the past two hours or so.
I found that to change from Download 30 Days to 7 days and it worked fine.
Oddly I returned my TP2, and switched back to my VarioV, same problem (had worked fine until then). New TP2 is now here, so will start with 7 days and try expanding to 30 days later.

does anyone know how to do this? i cannot find this option anywhere?
is there any way i can see how my tp2 is trying to receive data from my gmail account, ie. if it is trying to use internet or wifi?!?
also, does anyone have any details for the settings that their tp2 (on t-mobile UK) is using when trying to retrieve email (not by wifi)??!
i'm also assuming that t-mobile wont be able to help me as i got my phone/contract via a third party and t-mobile themselves dont seem to stock the phone themselves....
I had this problem, it drove me nuts until I worked out what it was, if i was already connected it would work but it would not establish its own new connection.
To fix it go into the email settings for the account, then select:
Edit Account Setup
Next
Next
Next
Next (Outgoing (SMTP) mail server screen)
Click the “Advanced Server Settings” Link
In the “Network connections” it defaults to “The Internet” but if you have gone through the “Connection Setup Wizard” when you first installed your SIM it renames the connection, in my case to “T-Mobile Internet”.
Change “Network Connections” to the correct one i.e. “T-Mobile Internet”
hey presto, you can now get your emails
hope this helps everyone

if the connection has a proxy in the setup, than you can use that connection only if selected like above...
if you leave "The internet" the proxy settings are ignored...you have to select the exact connection..but this will prevent the gmail to connect with wifi
When I go to email and enter my password, it says "Connecting" then Logging on..." but then it goes back to the screen asking for my passwords, followed by this error message:
Messaging
Cannot connect to the incoming mail server. Be certain that your login information is correct, then try again to send and receive mail.
I know my info is correct because I can access my gmail through the Tilt 2's browser as well as on other computers. I'm currently using monx's ROMeOS ROM but this was happening on other ROMs too. How can I fix?

Do you have IMAP/POP3 enabled in your google options? You have to have that setup first before you can access/sync using poutlook.
Previously my Fuze always worked and this new Tilt 2 did sometimes.
After reading your suggestion. I went into my gmail settings. IMAP was enabled and POP was not. I enabled POP but it did not help. Hmm.
I realize there is a fix for WM6.1 but is there anything for WM6.5? I can't be the only one to experience this problem.
Nothing? Please?

I noticed that your login is also case sensitive. So let's asume you entered Cam123 as a login but try cam123. That solved my connection problems
did you use the email wizzard, or did you put the settings for the email setup there youre self?
I had the same issue with my email account.... problem whas/is that when windows checks online for settings, it downloads the wrong settings (incomming & outgoing mailserver were wrong)
Then I used the email wizzard, and that worked great! all settings work correct ...
hope this helps you.
Good luck!
Thank you but it's not a case-sensitive issue.
I entered my gmail account information by going to Email, then entering the data.
I can not set up my hotmail .... it comes up with some sort of error.
Can you please help!!
can we have some more detail please, error message etc?
sorry... i was trying to make the topic before i had my dinner.

thanks

Try these settings they worked on mine
incoming:
Protocol - pop
put email address in and user name put email address in again
put in password
pop server - pop3.live.com
security type - SSL port 995
outgoing:
tick log in required
put email address in as username
put in password
smtp server - smtp.live.com
security type - TLS
server port - 587
Hey presto!!
I set my hotmail up the day I got my desire and it works perfectly. Shouldn't need to put any extra settings, just add email account and password which is recognised automatically. Just had to add one tick box to have items deleted from server now working fine.

On my hero I can go into settings and in the 'send & receive' settings I can change the download options and select how many days it should download. (you can select by number of days or by number e-mails, quite nice actually )

Yeah, this forum is great!
You can change the interval at the settings as well.
Btw, something else you can try is to let Gmail download the hotmail e-mails. But you cannot set the interval unfortunately. (You can set this up on your computer by going into the gmail settings, Accounts and Import settings, and then click on the 'import mail and contacts'. And then you have to finish a few steps to set it up.)
Too bad it's not instant like gmail though.
I now forward my main e-mail account to my gmail. This way I don't need the interval pop3 checking and I get my e-mail directly via the gmail push. Great stuff!
Unfortunately this is not possible with hotmail, you can only forward to other hotmail/live adresses. Unless you use the paid version of hotmail, then it's possible I believe (not sure).
But! For everything else it's great!
Create a folder/label, setup a filter and everything is nicely categorized as well
The gmail app is a bit more basic however.. different from the htc e-mail application for sure. Oh, and the standard gmail icon doesn't show the number of unread e-mails, so for that you need to get a widget called 'Gmail Unread Count'.
So i've just picked up the desire, have setup hotmail but it's only pop, is there no imap support? I don't fancy having to manually mark something as read each time...
